Updates - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Questions & Answer

Is it normal for a such a device as this to be 2 months behind on updates? I don't mind, just find it interesting that other samsung devices are getting the august update, while this device (for some) is still stuck on June. I guess considering this is a tablet and not subject to the same update features as a phone, it may take a little longer.

If you read this, you'll note that all Samsung Tablets are update quarterly.

Covered in many other posts but to summarize:
1) Samsung.com account setup?
2) Already been in the Google Market on the tab to accept the Terms of Use?
3) After both of those, did you add your Samsung account to the tab with success?
NOTE: No idea how the region may play a factor here....the Samsung account certainly has a country choice that might be an issue.
I have a SGS 2, i created samsung account on it. Added the same acct to tab 10.1.-- no good
then reset the tab, created a new samsung acct---- still no good..
have a similar problem
when i setup my samsung account i put us as a region. and earlier today i decided to update the system. i downloaded and installed the update but ignore a warning about removing clock widgets and any contacts shortcuts. So when it rebooted i got a black screen. I did a hard reset and got the factory setting tried to update again but got no new updates and i still have none of the new features.
Contacted samsung live chat and they said something about an overload of downloaders and the only solution they figured is to keep checking for new updates or the tab will send me a "(push) notification" of an update available.
so still trying and no new developments. I'll wait and try the next day.
Having the same issue as tusharsingla.
Bought the tab in the US and back home it can't find the TouchWiz update via the tab (no update available) and also not via Kies. Only strange thing is that the Samsung account has 'Sync Off' mentioned in my account list. Any suggestions?
See my post from another thread. I'm having the same issue and am here in the US.

There's a thread in the Q&A section where one xda member had been advised by samsung that the update has been halted. Another xda member reports that samsung told him they are limiting the downloads for touchwiz.
Anyone else called Samsung and got the same or similar answer?
Just purchased 10.1 wifi today cant get touchwiz OTA

Spoke with Samsung Support today
Samsung support says that they are limiting updates due to load on their servers. I spoke with two different techs and got the same answer.
However, IMHO this is a bunch of bull. The update was released more than a week ago and if their servers cannot handle the load after this amount of time they should pack up their bags and go home.
Give me a break!
I couldn't agree with you more! This is ridiculous! Just when I thought samsung is starting to get their act together they do something like this.

More from Samsung on Update
After numerous calls and emails over the past 10 days, I finally speak with someone today that tells me that the update is on hold. They could not provide any details about the reason or an ETA for availability.
I love Samsung's products, but there is no polite way to describe the quality of their support.
Same problem
When I finally got ahold of their support, I was told it was on hold due to an issue with the media hub in the USA. They could not give me any more details than that.
Samsung Experience
I happened to be in NYC today so I stopped in at the Samsung Experience center and they confirmed that the update was pulled, but they said it was due to software issues, not Media Hub. The rep said that there were complaints about excessive lag and poor battery life although he said it worked perfectly on his Tab.
I wasn't expecting the update any more soon but being bored I manually checked for it again yesterday evening. I was surprised that my tab did mention that there was an update available. It is the update including the TouchWiz, Media hub etc. so apparently they are still sending out the update.
I also checked out of boredom and noticed a firmware update. Can this be done while maintaining root?
galaxatized with honeycomb™
Got my Tab a couple of weeks ago and saw a pending 180+ MG update available while I was exploring last night. Ran it, and it crashed the system, some features work, some don't, some critical (the browser) are gone and I am a long long way away from support.
So begins my school on Android.

Stuck on February Security Patch

I wouldn't say stuck. Pretty much everyone is on that patch level AFAIK.
Samsung doesn't do monthly security patches. Last patch was sometimes in March with the Feb Update.
I forgot about that caveat when I gave my wife the P2XL and picked up a S9+
What the heck. Even my Wife's Note 8 is on the March patch!
I even have 2 Verizon S6's that were getting monthly security patches like clockwork. These are on April already. S6's are like 3 years old I think!
I'm still on the Feb patch.... I have the unlocked U1...
It's nuts!
Mine says last update was March 31.
1st April 2018 on mine.
Didn't Samsung commit to monthly security updates?

Not that I'm aware of. If so I'd like to see that source because obviously they got it wrong.

Samsung DOES issue monthly security patches but no new ROM for the unlocked 9+ since it was released. Typical!!
There hasn't been 1 Samsung phone that I have had that had gotten monthly updates

I RMA'd a P2XL because of the display flashing. I got a good one and sold it & bought the S9+. I would keep the Pixel if I had it to do over again. The hardware is ok with the Samsung but I don't want the Samsung account, Bixby or any of their apps. I thought they had evolved into something I could use and even like but I was wrong. I'm going to try to live with it until the next Pixel comes out. I'm sure it will be a beast.

Link is appreciated but there is a disconnect somewhere. History has never happened and I for one would be shocked if it ever does. Hopefully I'm proved wrong but I doubt it.

You don't really have to use Samsung account or bixby or any of the Samsung apps. you could simply not use them, or even disable them with a package disabler. I personally prefer to use some Samsung apps but it's completely possible to use the phone without having to use Samsung account or their apps.
Updates seem to be monthly for global variants; I am not sure some why US variants are lagging on updates. Maybe they are working on bringing android P on time for you guys when google announces it (stable/final); because usually that is when Samsung updates start getting delayed for flagships.

You can post a 100 different sources stating this, but until they actually start doing it... It means nothing.

It amazes me that people complain about Samsung bloatware but don't about Google's. Maps, Drive, Duo, Hangouts, GMail, and so much more! I have yet to own an Android device where junk, including Google's wasn't needed to be removed! A few minutes on how to use ADB easily solves the bloat that user is unhappy with. The Bixby button is easily disabled, a Samsung account isn't needed (I don't have one), and hopefully Samsung will allow us to remap that useless button with Bixby disabled.
Updates every 3 to 4 months seems to be the common theme for most manufactures outside of Google. Updates are good but they can't make up for garbage hardware, like LG's display on the Pixel 2 XL. Flickering is the least important issue with those displays to be complaining about. Uniformity issues, which LG calls a "characteristic of the manufacturing process" and graininess are high up there. Even with Google giving LG tons of money just about every year, LG's mobile division still loses money and has for 11 years straight!
There might be little annoyances with Samsung's updates and implementation but those are easily changed. When it comes tot he hardware though, you really can't beat those Samsung OLED panels and the hardware to go with it.

Whats the hold up?

Why is samsung delaying the one ui 2.5 when the fold 2 has it?there's not much difference between the two devices and 2.5 brings some great features but instead the s10 range get it even though our handset cost nearly £2000 surely we deserve priority service,if samsung expect to sell more premium products they need to give premium service as well as that premium price tag....
I fully agree with you and was also still wondering, why all other series 10 handsets received it and there is no update available for the Fold. But I guess they have already pushed a lot UI 2.5 changes to the current Fold UI like live the Pro video mode.
I agree aswel I got the phone 5g version in uk in Feb wed get updates between 20 to last day if the month while fold 4g the the updated beginning of the months then last 4 months we got beginning of month then last update was 10th September for security patch downloaded about 5am no update since

OneUI 2.5, with functions of the Galaxy Z Fold2, is currently rolling-out for the Galaxy Fold LTE, SM-F900F, in France (XEF)

Firmware of an S10-sevice, one screen, is much easier than of the Galaxy Fold!
AS always it's a "staged roll-out", and will arrive at your device soon too(or if you've a Multi-CSC OXM device, you could flash the firmware yourself with Odin)

The updates are already on the fold 2 so its already there, theres no pen like on the note 9 which is now been released....its all software related and that software is already on the near identical fold 2...its a joke no premium service but a premium price,I would normally flash it with odin but I'm not risking it this time ?

It'll come to your device soon too...
Do you know how firmware-updates work? With a major upgrade, it'll be first released to 1 (or a few) country. When there are no major bugs discovered, it'll be released to more countries!
As France (XEF) is the default CSC for Multi-CSC OXM, they're getting it first.
Flashing your Fold with Odin is as safe as flashing i.e. a Note20-device...
If you want OneUI 2.5 on your device right now: flash it; or wait till it's released in your country...

Of course i know how updates work, the work has been done already on the fold 2 so why the long wait for the fold 1?let's have the people who pay premium for their phones treated as premium customers, I expect to be served before someone whos paid half of what I have...so maybe samsung needs to get a move on and keep its premium customers happy...I shouldn't have to flash an update even if the phone wasn't nearly $2000...
This just come through today I did manually check for it
Oops would have helped if I included it lol
Just received the update

Thoughts Tab s7 plus june security update , Any problem after update. ?

As samsung is known to give half baked and faulty software to older devices , I am just scared to update , so will it slow down my tab or it's safe to update
Thanks in advance
I just downloaded and installed it. It is a pretty light update. Mostly just the June security update. For the record, I haven't had any problems with updates for my Tab S7. This didn't slow anything down.

Which phone brand has the longest update support?

Hi everyone!
I am writing to you because my Motorola Edge has not received any software updates for 7 months now. In addition, the phone has battery problems and a lot of software bugs.
So I think it's time to switch phones. Prior to this phone I had a Huawei P9 Lite that lasted for more than 7 years, getting software updates right up until the very last moment. But obviously I made the wrong choice.
Can you recommend a new phone that answers the question above?

If your Motorola Edge happens to be a XT2063-2 or XT2063-3 then you can get weekly security updates if you change the operating system to LineageOS. I wouldn't be surprised if updates continue for another 4 years or so.
Here's a guide for your reading enjoyment https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/racer/
If you have to purchase a new phone and you want long term support updates, I think Google Pixel 6 comes with 5 years of updates and Samsung Galaxy S comes with 4 years. If I decided on the Samsung Galaxy, I would get an unlocked global version and avoid any US version so I could install a custom operating system in the future when the phone is old.
