How to hardreset without a hardreset-switch? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I can't ound the answer with the forum search.
My Wallaby does not have a hard-reset switch. How can I hardreset it without to disassemble and take out and in the battery?
Sometimes I try functions in the bootloader menu, and after it, the Windows does not start. Only display the background with the radio and wince version number. In this case only the hardreset helps.
Any idea?

It would be possible to write a program which causes a hard reset. But in the situations where you'd need it, you can't run the program anymore. You could try wiring in a new pushbutton if you're really (really!) good with a soldering iron, otherwise I'd refrain from playing with the bootloader on such a unit.
If you leave it in bootloader mode, this will drain the batteries really quick (causing a hard reset) since the backlight stays on and power-management happens. This would still take up to a few hours, but would save you the hassle of opening it up.

Thank you!
So there is not a special key-combinations like the new iPAQ-s.
I use it for three days. I must to hard reset two times. (After I try to changed something in the bootloader)
In the first time, I pressd various key combinations, and I could hardreset it, but I can't remember how
Ok, your tipp is a good, if I'am not at home, and do not reach my torx
Gabor

I find it hard to believe that there is no button combination for a hard reset
have you tried reading your Wallaby manual?
In any case, I have an app installed called THM Task Manager, and it has a "shutdown" option which INCLUDES hard reset. I haven't tried this yet (for obvious reasons) but you're free to so if you'd like.
Hope this helps
Carlo

you have not tried inserting the unscrewed cap of your pen into the lower right pinhole on the side of your xda?

There is no hardreset micro-switch inside.
On the mainboard there is only the place for the switch, but no switch.
I read the wiev the manual for the Qtek1010 only, that I downloaded, and not found any text about hard-reset key-combinations.
I bought it from a guy, who build a working xda from two killed devices. I gave only a sync cable, no manual or anithing else.
Hard-reset program sometimes can't help. As I wrote, I needed hard-reset two times, after I changed something in the bootloader. The device stops at the windows welcome screen, wher the version number displays. I can't start any hardreset program at this tiem.
Thank you,
Gábor

ic, so it's a sort of "refurbished, frankenstein" unit. the guy must've forgotten to put on the micro switch, when he was putting the thing together.
you could disconnect the battery and wait till the backup batt drains too. that should hard reset the thing, when you reinsert the main battery

Download PHM Task manager here:
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/TaskMgr/
Install it.
Then go to the shutdown menu - there in is a "hard reset" option
Follow the warnings etc and execute - your device will then be hard reset!
FYI,
JB
PS: please post if this solves your Frankenstein units problem...

I thought the hard reset was a hardware feature on the xda that isolates the battery physically from the board, is that possible to implement in software??

Admittedly - I never used this method on my old XDA; however, I have used this on two Toshiba PDA's (e740 and an e755) and it works.
To the best of my knowledge, this works via software by telling the device to release/erase everything in volatile RAM - ie a hard reset w/o cycling the battery.

XDA freezes/hangs on Startup after soft reset

Hi
I installed piece of Software called GPS Assist to acompany by TomTom Nav software. Big Mistake.
Did a Soft Reset, and it gets to the Today screen, displays half the items on it (sometimes less or more after every reset) and then just freezes.
Tapping the screen or any hardware buttons wont do anything. Im guessing something that runs for GPS Assist is starting on bootup, and freezing it.
I really dont want to do a Hard Reset, I've been careless lately and not backed it up in quite a while.
Is there anything I can do, some way of getting into the bootup and stopping services..or anything like that ?
Thanks
David

Hey, for me have the same issue. but i tried installing Transformer 1.1.... Even I tried Hard reset... not working... have u found the solution????
I am using HTC ELF...
If any one have solution plz post it...
probably you will have to hard reset it, it has been a long time since i used a wallaby, you should of installed a program called safe mode which allows you to do what it says and go into safe mode on the pocket pc, spb pocket plus has a similar function too. This would of at least allowed you to boot up the wallaby and uninstall the offending program.
have you tried just leaving it on for half an hour ,connected to the pc. it might not be actually crashing just locked in a never ending loop?
And you did hold the power button in while using the stylus to reset(A hard reset) not just used the stylus to reset(Soft reset)?

What is the different between soft-reset and normal-reset?

Hi !
Does anyone know about the soft-reset?
1- Push into the big hole on the left bottom side.
2- Open the SIM door and reinsert SIM.
All the methods above are the way to restart the machine.
I think the first method is the way to do the soft-reset. What is about the second method, soft-reset too or not?
Please give me the details about the methods above.
Thank in advance,
I'm pretty sure both operations perform the same function.
The other reset is a hard reset which is holding the power button down and pressing the stylus into the hole at the same time.
I guess you know that a hard rest returns the unit to the power on state when you first bought it, wipes everything then reinstall the default apps from ROM.

Hi ednap !
Why do we have to press the power button and press the stylus into the small hole on the right side at the same time?
i recall that xda1 have 2 holes in the buttom the one of the left is softreset and the one on the right is hardreset
i think that if you hold down the power button and softreset a xda1 you end up in the bootloader

Only do this if you have a serious failure on your device and nothing will work. It wipes your device of any application you may have loaded, documents created, photos taken and returns the device to it's factory built state.
I am refering to the XDA II, sorry if the original question was about the XDA.
As stated by mvsmith07 a hard reset is only used when you want to perform a full reset of your unit, deleting everything and the reinstalling whaterever is in your ROM. For those who have not altered the ROM files that means returning the unit to as it was when you first powered it up after taking it out of the box.

Does it clear whats on you SD cards?
I know this could be a stuipd questions so sorry if it is

No, only wipes the ROM and storage memory of the device itself. Doesn't touch the storage card.

Atom Crash

I have to hard rest the phone every 5 days as it hang up. Hang up always starts with ring tone become silent and then no response on the screen.
I have 2G memory and have the following programmes installed:

I have to say, I have'nt had to reset my atom in a long, long time.
Try uninstalling those programs and see if it makes any difference.

It shouldn't - I am running apps from mine at the moment without problem.
Thanks a lot, it has been stable for more than a week after removing some of the programmes. But now every few days the speaker turn itself to silent and I can't get any ring tone. I soft rest and go back to normal. I ahve to do this every few days.
Did you have same prob, and how can I fix it.
reflash the rom!
Do you mean hard rest? if different how can I reflash?
Ah Ah Ah...
It not only a simple hard-restart your device, but upgrade your ROM to the latest, then try to find if it is better.
I already have the latest, should I connect to PC and reload the new upgrade again?
definately, use the bootloader mode....ie. camera+softreset button together then plugin USB to PC and run DSUU

Help!

Hi all
I have a Lobster 700tv phone which I think is brilliant, but I'm looking to upgrade the software from mobile 5 to mobile 6. I have windows xp on my pc is this possible?
The reason I'm asking is that my phone is somehow stuck in headset mode (even without the headset plugged in) and I can't figure out on how to get it back to normal. Even when the phone rings, I get the ring tone, but have to plug in the headset to answer the call. (I've done a cold reboot and it's done no good). I took it to a phone repair shop yesterday and they've said that it's a software error.
Has anyone else had the same sort of problems?
Or if anyone can advise on a possible solution (apart from throwing it out of the window!) I'd be grateful.
Thanks
If its a software issue a hard reset should bring you back im not sure what a cold reboot is so you may have tried this, also never heard of your phone so i wouldnt know ho to hard reset. If hard reset doesnt work then you will probably have to flash a new rom, possibly to wm6 if you can find the rom.My advice is lots of searching and reading... good luck
wm6 won't come soon to my and your lobby's screen
it requires a LOT of time to be done, special tools, extracted ROM for the operation and so on, (btw the phone isn't very commercial, wide-spread and so on, which is demotivating programmers)
ANYWAY, now on the topic:
you can try the CLEAR STORAGE option
found in accessories, it does almost fully hard-reset the phone, but preserves DAB app (I read somewhere, that hard resetting did remove the app, but I'm not sure now...)
anyway, here's how to do the hard reset:
1. Press and hold soft1 and soft2 keys (i.e. menu keys).
2. Press and hold power button for around 1 to 1.5 seconds. Release power button. Keep holding both soft keys.
3. After a while, black screen should show instructions asking user to press '0' key to reset to factory default.
4. Press '0' within the timeout period (which is very brief).
If instructions don't appear on the screen, repeat steps 1 to 4.
it'll show the boot screen, and afterwards a black background with the typings, quickly press 0 to reset, sit and wait
as usual, backup all contacts, data, apps, stuff like that, and then do the job

Hi there Prodigyfied,
Greetings from cloudy and overcast England.
Thanks again for the info.
I've tried what you've suggested, and it's still the same. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas?
Thanks
Paula
Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner!
it is a common fault with HTC phones and is a hardware issue - here is one of the MANY threads on modaco
http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-T...aCo-com/229405/C500-Stuck-on-Headset-profile/
Should have enough suggestions to get you working!
Good luck.
Thank you
Thanks Confusious,
The suggestion in that other thread has done the trick.
You've made my day
Thank you.

Touch pro problem

Bought a touch pro knowing that the backlight on the screen works, but that the actual screen doesn't. I've tried connecting it to the computer and it said it that the phone needs to be unlocked first...i was going to see if I could unstall SOTI on there and use the computer to view the screen and stuff...i've tried hard resets and I'm lost can anyone help.
Bad screen or flex cable
Open and close the handset while it is turned on, if it flickers or you see any color or shape goasting then the flex cable is needs replacing.
If you can see the backlight on, and nothing changes then look for impact damage, usually something/somone fell on it.
If no damage markings, then the unit is probably locked, an no one knows the code.
Contact seller for more info?
I haven't try to recover a locked TP yet.
But, If your up to trying something. Find the correct "Service Provider" up-date or original shipped ROM from HTC support, this forum or PPCGeeks.com.
With the shipped .exe ROM packages, the TP can be put in bootloader and "Clean Flashed" without needing to be unlocked or add anything.
This how updated ROM are delivered and installed from HTC.
Hope this bit of info helps. I have the Last Alltel .exe if you need it.
Thanks for the info but sadly that didn't work. The loader says it can't establish a connection.
Well update got the phone to hard reset and now it's unlocked can anyone walk me though what happens after the hard reset. Like after the hard reset what screens show up show that i can set this up without the screen and use my SOTI program to view the screen on the computer

Here is the thing. The rom is going to start up doing the initial setup (calibration, time zone selection, etc). Mymobiler might work better since it installs via activesync and connects to the device the moment you plug it in. Give that a go and see if it works.
Thank you i will try that
Probably not the right place to ask but is there someway i can install a program on the phone without any kind of input from myself...ie putting mymobiler or similar cab file and having it run it when i inserted the memory card and i not having to make any kind of inputs on the screen? seeing as i can't see anything?

If you put an autorun file in the root of the card pointing to that cab, you should be able to do this. However, the device will ask you if you want to install to memory or storage. I guess if you simply press the "Enter" button (circle in the D-pad), it might just do it.
