If you don't use Cleartype, no problem.
But if you use Cleartype, don't even dare consider flashing to Orange ROM.
The Cleartype implementation is unusable, and the reason why I flashed back after best part of ten minutes trying to ignore it...
thanks for the reply, could you give me a starting point, i'm new to all of this, been doing some reading. Did you just get the orange rom then use xdatools to flash it ? also been reading that you can change the cab files in the extended rom, maybe you can stick this cleartype on, dont know what cleartype is never used it.. will check it out

ok.. done it.. very impressed.. got rid of all that O2 crap.. and I have done all the config for gprs and wap and mms.. kewlies wasnt that hard.. just taken a couple of hours to get my head round it. I have updated the rom to Orange.DK and just changed it to UK jobs a good'un
Thanks

Hi,
Is it possible to remove the O2 logo from the top title bar on my XDA II. It appears between the Start menu header and the Signal Strength meter.
I have two reason for wanting to do this - the first is it appears over the top of any program name that is too long to fit between it and the Windows logo. The second and most important is that I can not stand O2 :x . I have just managed to get out of my contract - due to them not being able to sort a problem I was having - they had been trying for 15 weeks !!!
I am now using my Orange sim in it.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Many thanks
PS great forums guys
o2 logo.
Me to!
Not sure how to do it,or if possible.Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
Uninstall all the o2 software (v2ractive or summat) Cause its crap and you dont need it! then delete the directorys the remove programs program tells u it couldnt delete then reset ya device simple! I did it cause the o2 software is a pile of smelly pants
Cheers.
Worked like a dream. Now all I need is an MV1000 case to replace the O2 one

... special help.
I'm sorry, I'm really not tech savvy. I'm leaving for Europe in 2 days and I needed my 8525 unlocked so I could use an Italian SIM card while I'm there ... So I ran the program, the tri-color screen showed up on my phone and it's been there for a while. Does this step take a while or should I be worried about my phone? Now I did something stupid after. I accidentally closed the cmd screen with the instructions, so now it's back to "Rom Upgrade utility will start now, bla bla ... check the 'I understand' and 'I completed ...' boxes and update!" Now, those boxes haven't appeared, and it's been 15 minutes. At the beginning of this, the instruction said to make sure there's at least 50% of battery left, so I assume that means this step takes long and it's not that I've messed up? Please please help I'm kinda freaking out here ...
P.S. You guys are fantastic! Honestly ... thank you for this, and I promise I shall donate if this works. ;-)
OK, all the info you need is in the unbricking thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286755
Please read through the thread and it will help you to help yourself.
What is a "brick" [besides the orange-ish stuff we use to build homes] and why am I flashing my phone?
Also, I'm not sure which part of the process it's stuck in. It doesn't say anything about the tri-color screen?

Congratulations on that question....if you read the thread you will find out.
As I said I'm in leaving in 2 days, and there's 27 things on my to-do list. Reading that whole thread and learnign how to unlock my phone may take up hours which I don't have to spare right now.
I'd really appreciate it if someone would be willing to help, I will donate in exchange but if you can't and all the advice you have to offer is "search the threads" then ... well, I'd be quite disappointed but I guess it'll do.
Now, if you're feeling too irritable to help, please, for the sake of someone who is already nearing a nervous breakdown, is it safe for me to unplug my phone right now (with the tri-color screen still active on the phone) and soft-reset it, or will it risk messing up my phone ... which means I should leave it alone?
Thanks a million.
You're a star.

Right then, what text is displayed on the bootloader screen? (the tri colour screen you are on now)
At the very top, there's a red box that takes up 1/4 of the screen.
It says:
HERM100
IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM100
SPL-1.09.ds
The second 1/4 of the screen below the red is green, followed by blue, then at the very bottom a white block that says "USB".
Thank you. Sorry I've just got so much to deal with right now ... I didn't mean to snap.
Soft reset the device, see if it boots up normally.
It did boot up normally, it's working fine now.
Shall I restart the process or leave it be?
probably best to leave it be, when you get back from your holiday take some time to read through the wiki and the relevant threads before continuing. If you read up you will know what to expect and what to do if the unexpected happens, will save the panic
My holiday's going to be until September the 17th. I need the phone ... for the holiday. So I can get local numbers wherever I go. :-/
Best thing might be to buy a right POS mobile there?
Thanks ... figured it out. :-D
I did have a backup POS phone, too ... this one's just the one I keep if I wanna stay organized, pretty important on a trip.
Its not that hard to SIM unlock a hermes there is a sticky I believe with the app or just search for hermes CID unlocking. make sure you choose to SIM unlock not CID. hell run both CID and SIM unlock won't hurt anything. also before you do anything flash SPL7 on your phone if you don't know what it is search also!

Austinsync,
Now I am confused and obviously need to read even more but if you could spare a few moments then you'd save me a great deal of time. I already have HardSPL(7) from OliPro and thought that this had effecively CID unlocked my device to allow me to flash non-T-Mobile (my provider) ROMs onto the device- I checked and Olipro lists SuperCID as a core Hard-SPL feature.
I have seen lots of SIM and CID unlocking and understand that but has the HardSPL effectively rendered much of that advice on CID unlocking advice unecessary? I have seen someone (on the WM6 Hermes Forum) indicate that HardSPL 'temporarily' CID unlocked the device!
Any comments welcome - just hope I've not been too lapse in only reading about a thousand pages...
So I've been a silent observer and massive leach on this forum for sometime, and I've felt like I should try to contribute something back to the community. I can't program ****, I'm little more than an adv. newb at this point. But I do understand how to flash roms, where to find things on the forum, Hard SPL, radio upgrades, REg edit, and all manner of things that most noobs don't. So the way I would like to give back to the community as a whole is to try to answer questions, ANY questions noobs might have without flaming them. My hope is that alot of the questions that annoy our senior members can be directed here, and I can help people find the answers to their questions. I usually check in 2 or 3 times a day, and as long as the traffic doesn't get overwhelming I'll do my best to help.
Thanks to all the chefs, Moderators, and senior members who contribute so much to keep me crack addicted to my stupid cell phone.
where can I find a threaded "palm" like sms application?
totally kidding, this is the most asked question on here i think.
I think rather than do a Q and A, see if you can post step by step "noob" questions defining the differences between hardSPL, radios, ... and why everyone talks about them.
That would be a good bit of information that we can add to the wiki. Just define the key words everyone talks about or something. Personally, I have flashed a few roms on my 8525s but still dont read enough to determine why people like the older radios vs the 1.48. and why some roms dont have radio and such vs ones that do. That alone would be beneficial to me.

From what I can tell people some people use older radios for several reasons.
1st Flashing the radio is potentially extremely perilous. It's not hard to do but if something goes wrong it CAN potentially brick your phone. Even if you have Hard SPL. Therefore some tend to be more conservative about flashing their radios. Roms are available without the radio for this reason as well, it's less dangerous and people have varying opinions about which radio is best
2nd which radio is best for you seems to depend somewhat on what area you live in, what service you have, and whether battery life or performance is more important to you. Their are various opinnions about which radio version is better but they all seem somewhat subjective. PEople report better signal strength with one version or another, or better battery life with one version or another. But from what I can tell 1.48 and 1.40.3 seem to be two of the favorites. 1.48 because it's new and doesn't seem to be causing TOO many problems, and 1.40.3 because its tested and most haven't had trouble with it.
Hope this helps.

Well since I like the idea of a flameproof zone, I will jump in here as well. Before you even consider posting a total newb question you should have read a couple of dozen posts, just like yours. Because then you would know that you would get flamed for not posting all of the important information. Are you using XP or Vista? what radio version are you using, what bootloader did your phone come with. What IPL/SPL?
my bad, IPL-1.01, SPL-1.40 Olipro. XP

There has hardly been any action here for weeks. So at this rate I'll be on to my next phone before I get "the ****s with the nooby questions" But your right if it takes off I'll probably regret it
alright, learned a lot in the last...day or so, flashed olipro finally, tried out some roms, settling with jasjammins black majik for the time being, and flashed radio 1.50. now time to figure out some more cool things to jump into
okay, the sim and cid unlocker is confusing the hell out of me... if i've installed hardspl 2.10 olipro and it enables supercid, then why do i need to unlock the sim or the cid...? do i need to use the unlocker in order to upgrade my rom to a new one...? i'm using an at&t 8525...
thanks for this thread by the way... sometimes i just need things to be explained in a plain clear fashion from people who know how to use the english language and sometimes when i read things on here the english language is butchered and things don't come across right and becomes confusing... i'm just looking for simple answers to simple questions...
from what ive gathered so far, olipro basically puts the device into a temporary supercid mode when flashing so you wont run the risk of bricking the phone via a corrupted cid, so i dont know why one would need to be permanently cid unlocked. And as far as sim unlocking, that is so that u can use ur phone with any carrier using sim cards, att, tmobile, etc. and if u have the 8525 and are using cingular i dont see why u would need to sim unlock unless ive missed something as im still a "noob" to a lot of this stuff but im workin on it

yeah, i'm still a noob more or less, but it's getting better... it's just some of this stuff is a little complicated and i like to see things done on a step by step basis, like a cookbook... here is the recipe and here are the ingredients and here is how you put them altogether and viola, a fine dish...
okay, i understand about the temp supercid when flash thanks to hardspl 2.10 olipro... i don't know why someone would need to have a permanently unlocked cid either, since i can't seem to find an explanation as to what a cid unlock will get you... a sim unlock i understand fully about moving the phone to other networks via a sim... i'm just interested in knowing if i have to do anything besides run hardspl 2.10 olipro to upgrade to a new rom...
im running with att, got my 8525 on ebay already unlocked with an older version of olipro installed and the black shadow rom. I flashed to the newest version of olipro (after a few difficulties with the 260 error which i havent really had since), flashed to a newer radio (1.50) and tried like 5 different roms. I have no idea if my phone is perma sid unlocked. If u want some step by step recipe type directions check out the mrvanx website and read one of the guides for installing one of the roms which are on there, starts off with installing olipro and goes thru till the end, and if the guide isnt dealing with the rom u want just substitute the one u want in

right... i went to mrvanx' site and read the instruction 10 times over... seems straight enough... i'm going to try out the tnt 2.0 6 meg+htc rom, but i wanted to start from scratch with the phone... right now i'm a little stuck... i tried a hard reset just to get everything back to where it was, but i don't think i'm doing it right or the at&t 8525 that i have (which is brand new from at&t) isn't giving me the screen i need to be seeing according to the wiki... the wiki states that if you want to hard reset, hold down the 2 softkeys (the two keys on the left and the right at the top of the keyboard) and press the reset switch with your stylus at the bottom of your device, then you should be presented with a screen that says 'R' for reset or 'X' for exit... i didn't get that screen at all, but it does do a reset (apparently), but my name and contacts are still intact... i thought a hard reset was a total wipe of the device... maybe i'm wrong...?
also, i go to the bootloader screen and it says herm100 ipl-1.04 and below that it says herm100 spl-2.10.olipro... most confusing...
okay... here is an update on the hard reset... i instead went into the clear settings applet and hard reset that way... however, when i do a bootloader screen check, it still says ipl-1.04 and spl-2.1.olipro... i thought it would change everything back... so now it is all clear... i'll reformat my minisd card to fat32 and then i'll install the new tnt 2.0 and see what happens... i'll keep you up to date on any issues...
I decided to play with the Debug Tool 3.2 and found all the Flash flags were set to 0. I saw there was a setting for Radio Flags. I set it to 8, wrote it, rebooted, just to see if there was any change in EDGE/3G capability (I have a Euro TP and I'm in the US). Since that didnt have any noticable effect, I changed the Radio Flags to 65535 , rebooted. The Phone showed the ToucHPro boot screen, then displayed the red version numbers and thats it.
I did a hard reset to reinit everything, no help. I reflashed the radio, no good either. Just reflashed the OS to DCS 1.5, still stuck.
Perhaps theres a way to reset the flags via MTTY in the bootloader, or through an AT command. If anyone has any ideas to try, let me know.
Edits:I just viewed the DebugToolAp.html and I think i know what I did wrong. Since I wrote a value of 65535 (16 bits, all ones), Im guessing the debug app properly converted it to hex and wrote 2 bytes instead of one, overflowing into the next location, where each 1 bit disables a piece of hardware. All 1's in that location would disable everything.
Now to figure out where that flash is and how to set those 2 locations back to 0's. I'm guessing I'll need a MFG SPL that has rtask enabled.
The Debug Tool calls the flash "PureFlash". Anyone know anything about it? Perhaps I can use JTAG to write to it? (I have a Wiggler)
Edit: running info 8 reports that I have 8 bad blocks, and based on similar symptoms posted on xda, the trick seems to be to run task 2a to fix the bad blocks, then task 28 to re-format the flash. But task 2a doesn't seem to do anything.
UPDATE: All the damage I did was repaired from remote by cmonex. I've learned my lesson, leave the tinkering to the experts!
dude if you want to brick your TP,instead of bricking it send it to me. i would be glad to accept.

well attempting to brick sounds like wasting to me.
hehehe, if you want to brick flash a kaiser radio on raphael
I'm more of a dumb ass now
Update: True to the saying "A little knowledge is dangerous", I've succeeded in making matters worse.
Realizing task 2a wasn't working in HARD-SPL, I flashed back to the stock SPL, did the task 2a and then task 28. But now I can't flash HARD-SPL back, I just get "error 262". Flashing HARD-SPL from the SD Card just hangs on the loading message (never gets to the bar graph).
Since the CID is HTC_032 (Eastern European), I can't even try a SHIPPED ROM as I can't find one yet.
Running info 8 I only get checksums for SPL, not IPL. And I still have bad blocks.
I'm guessing the only thing left is to wait for a modified SPL that I can load into RAM, jump to it, and then try reloading HARD-SPL.
I'll stop fscking with it now, if I make it any worse then I know its JTAG time.

Thats no fun I rather sit with it and wait for one of the big guns to advise.
I would suggest you pm cmonex , explain what you've done, and see what she recommends.
hey there, I'm checking this thread as per your PM.
classic case of reading BUT not reading enough. and also messing around more even after realizing something is wrong.. I hope you agree
I'll first try to correct all the wrong information mentioned here...
1) the debugflags have nothing to do with the 3G enabling.
2) task 2a is only useful for hermes, you're lucky it didn't kill the SPL totally. why do you think it is removed from hardspl otherwise.
3) task 28 is a plain hard reset, same as the button combo for hardreset. (BTW, many touch pro's have the same number of bad blocks, mine included, god knows why)
4) JTAG is not as simple as that. what devices have you jtagged before? any devices that have no publicly available documentation for it?
5) frankenkaiser will not work on a diamond/touch pro, because the normal USB interface is disabled in oemsbl command line and in dload mode. please no one should try setting any bootmodes in oemsbl command line!!! instant brick if you set 1, 2, or 3. and by brick I really mean brick, this touch pro right now can still boot SPL so not a true brick.
6) there is no IPL since kaiser came out. now radio bootloaders boot the SPL, not IPL.
7) if you have no shipped rom for this, you're in a much bigger trouble than originally even if you manage to unset the flags. btw there is a way to unset them, but the way I know of will only work with hardspl, we'll see if there is any other way. but again, your biggest trouble isn't the flags right now.
ok, i'll reply to your PM too and see how to go from there.
next time do not play around that thing what uu dot know deep enough....

I thought about that, but no, thats not my style.
On the bright side, I flashed HyperDragon III Opal onto my Kaiser last night and I have to say its quite impressive. It's like having a Touch Pro, but faster! Cheers to Sakajati!
Just as cmonex said ..
but in my opinion it isn't bricked at all ... it's just waiting for the right spl and oemsbl to rewrite the config flag.
