I have been trying to resurrect a dead Hermes. However I am afraid the battery maybe close to dead now. Is it possible to charge it even though all it boots up to is the bootloader? Your prompt reply would be most appreciated.
I dont see why not. As long as the charge light goes orange when you plug it in it should be charging it... when it goes green its 100% charged. USb charging seems to take longer than mains charging though.
Thanks. It goes into the BL even when I plug it into the wall charger, but the battery does get warm so I'm assuming it's charging. But now I have across another problem; the ROM update halts at 12%, and for some reason it jumps from 10% to 12% before freezing up. Tried to push just the SPL but that just got stuck at 0% and threw an error 286 at me, which is not documented. It did how ever upgrade the IPL from 1.01 to 1.04. The current SPL is 1.04.Olipro. Is this a HardSPL? Can anyone tell me what exactly is preventing me from completing the flash, and what, if anything, I can do to rectify this? Thank you

Pardon? 1.04.Olipro? it actually says .Olipro at the end? because I'm pretty ****ing sure I never made a version 1.04
Oh typo there, I'm sorry. It's 1.40.Olipro I hope the Olipro suffix is still valid though.
So far two other people have reported that their units gets stuck at 12% wile flashing. This has to be more than a coincidence. Does anyone have any thoughts?

i have the same problem too.and i've described it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1571302&postcount=1548
but nobody answers.
Had you downloaded the wm6 Rom from htc site??
I downloaded it from the rapidshare link, on another thread in this forum. Can you try to upgrade through the memory card and tell what result you get? I don't have a memory card yet to test it on.

Hi everyone
My phone is "O2 XDA ATOM EXEC"
I have updated it several times. The original OS was WinMobile 2005
First I updated to 2006 and then winMobile 6.1
now when I want to change the ROM (for example the original ROM, although the problem occurs for all ROMs), but during the the update process at "Stage 3: Updating Extended ROM" the process stops at 6% and the phone's screen shows this message: "format failed"
I tried so many times and the result was the same !!!
while I just tested again today, the process stopped again but this time at 0%, and the screen shows: "please wait"
please help friends, I REALLY need to get back to the original ROM
THNX

Please describe what you can see now in the screen of bootloader.
I think I've faced the same problem on my Atom Life before(my device has been dead(due to flashing error), but then cured by myself)... Maybe I can help.
check the site's wiki
there should be something about this.
additionally, have you tried the mini sd card flashing method (you can enter it's bootloader by holding the camera button - if thats the bootloader you're not talking about)

hi manmohan
First thing Dont Panic. There could be several things which might be responsible together making things difficult and confused.
1) Battery have not enough power.
2) Rom installation failed in the middle due to ROM file corruption.
Possible solution (Worth trying out)
----------------------------------
1) For first thing to confirm. Keep battery on charge for 1 hour though nothing is on screen. This will charge no only the main battery but also the internal CMOS battery, which is important. The redlight of charging will show that phone hardware is charging your battery. You are done with BATTERY.
2) Download fresh copy of any compatible rom on your pc. Connect any USB CARD-READER to your PC. Format SD Memory Card in FAT format (also known as FAT16) on your pc. Be sure the card is less than 2GB. If its 1 GB it is better. Copy the AL1.DIO file on SDCARD. You are done with SDCARD.
3) Try installing ROM exactly as mentioned in this THREAD
4) If still this fails, that means your battery is not yet fully charged or not working properly. Go to any mobile shop and ask them to charge the battery to full with thier charging unit and again start from step 1. Also ask the mobile technician if your battery is fine or not.
If battery is above 70% and card is FAT and ROM file is not corrupted, the installation again will go fine and you will be with your mobile again.
THIS MAY HELP, I M NOT SURE, BUT WORTH TRYING OUT THESE BASIC STEPS. HOPE THIS HELPS.
BEST OF LUCK...

Try charging your battery until the amber light turns green (it means it is fully charged). Then try to do a hard reset (pressing the power and reset button simultaneously). It will bring your phone to the last ROM that was installed.
Dear ManMohan
No need to send private emails. May be you are assuming most of us as mobile hardware experts but trust me many of us are not. I am just trying to help.
I am sure, you are very near to solution which you can do on your own. And yes, discussing all this in forum, will help many other people too now and in future, than in private emails.
--------------------------------------------
Try to find Original ROM from O2 website here http://www.myxda.com/romupgrade.aspx Select Atom Life and download Rom Installer for XP version and VISTA version both. Write them on blank CD for future reference, just in case you may need in future. DOWNLOAD THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THEY CLOSE THE SITE AS O2 IS ALREADY TAKEN OVER BY MWG (www.mwg.com)
Try installing this official ROM from your PC with this installer, while your O2 Atom life connected to PC with USB Cable. Even this method also restores many phones from boot error.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Yap Atom Dead bootloader is very annoying
Almost 1 year my Atom life dead or brick.I already Searched even to Service Center in our country and Atom central service in Singapure and china but none of them can fixed this this problem. They Said : "The Only way for fixing this brick atom life just Replace mother board".The Atom which has dead bootloader can not fix with Just press whatever button in your atom or even install New ROM.Cause the one of term for installing the new rom to The ATOM life is port must be detected by USB Computer port. But in this condition your atom life nothing detected by USB Port computer.Reasonly you can not nothing to do.But FYI if you have contact person in China precisely in Quanta Computer Manufacturer especially in Maintenance or engineering, I think there's only hope. But In the world there's nothing imposible to do.Until now I am still keeping my brick atom dead life, waiting someone can solve this problem. many thx.

I am building jtag hardware. I will try to flash boot loader using linux taken from this site.
HTML:
http://www.nrs.pt/pub/projects/acuv2/doc/mel-colibri/html-chunk/mel.bininstall.html
It is also possible to use windows, but some parts of the program is missing. Still, I am having a hard time to build the jtag hardware, taken some parts from nokia dct3 flasher.
Had the same problem and after about 15 days of its brick status I took it out and charged and after 100 % charged installed the official "Xda_Atom_Life_WM6_WWE_RC2140907B2" and then subsequently the PDAVIET ROM 6.1 with AL1.DIO.
can you explain the procedure in detail.?

I think the problem not from the JTAG Software.Officially Intel PXA 270 can be flashed by reguler flasher software with jflashm or even HJTAG and I already read detailly in the intel section site, but we can not find the right position so we can not flush directly eboot this processor. Now I am unfolding this atom for searching The right JTAG Position. But I don't know how identify this jtag point. In this side board there are many point, I think I must try one by one, do u have any idea?

Hi guys
I'm new to this stuff, and I've been searching round on the forums for the last half hour but haven't managed to find a clear cut explanation of whether my atom is dead or not..
I just tried to install the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM (Atom_B1.7z) I think it was the helloworld1 rom? Anyway, I was trying to install the ROM through the DSSU method and it got through to about 6% on the first step then my atom shut off
It won't respond to any button pushes now, however it will still display the charging light. I can't even get into the bootloader to reflash, however, I would have thought that the first step was only to install the OS, so I don't understand how it effects the bootloader? Unless I'm wrong?
Can anyone give me a clear cut idea as to whether my atom is dead or not?
Cheers.

ur device is bricked, if and only if, ur device won't start normally... even if u press soft-reset, hard-reset, or even bootloader mode buttons. Before panicking, do da following:
Brick Test:
1. Make sure ur device has ample battery charge. If u're not sure plug it in with da wall charger for at least 10min
2. Remove ur battery for at least 1 minute
3. Replace ur battery while observing da LED lights
4. If da LED blinks once upon battery insertion, u might have hope yet
Da only way to upgrade on a semi-brick device, is to upgrade through bootloader mode. No bootloader mode, No upgrade possible - period.
Entering Bootloader Mode on Semi-Brick Atom:
1. Remove battery for for at least 1 minute
2. Press CAMERA+RESET(stylus) simultaneously
3. Insert battery while still holding da buttons
4. Release da buttons at da same time(u should see bootloader screen)
Note: Failure to hold the buttons at da same time during battery insertion will cause it not to work.
GOOD LUCK
Thanks, ma Atom now working ) yeahh
I get all the way to the progress bar and them it just stays there for a very long time and nothing happen? Help is greatly appricated.
Ok beings as you've told us nothing in your post .
1. Are you using a 100% genuine Topaz (Diamond 2)?
2. Which ROM are you trying to flash ?
3. is the progress bar on the white flash screen or on the first boot windows screen?
4. Have you used Hard_spl?
5. Are you using a guide to flash your phone or just going hit & miss styls?
6. Are you flashing from the memory card or from the computer?
Add those to your next post and maybe we'll be able to help you
I'm using a HTC Pure from At&t, I'm trying to use Hard_spl, goes into bootloader mode and I get a progress bar with 0% and stays there, Hard_spl guide, from the computer. total noob!

Ok that should be the correct version for Hard_spl but for the sake of it go into tri-colour mode (details in the Hard spl thread) and check it says olinex in that mode. If it does some people have reported that doing this works.
1. Reflash to stock ROM ( i know you have already done this and can skip this step but it's there for future use)
2. Run the Hard_spl relocker file found in the hard spl thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
3. Start the phone make sure the stock ROM still works ok.
4. Reflash Hard_spl newest version again found in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312 follow instructions in that thread.
5. Once you have the Hard_spl installed on your device (again it's in that first post how to check)
6. Pick your new ROM from the ROM's section on this forum.
7. Download and flash using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201 (Please note it's easier and technically safer to flash using a memory card if you have one as this minimizes - if not removes - the chance of getting a connection error)
If it doesn't say Olinex then you haven't flashed hard_spl successfully follow the thread listed above to flash it on then your ROM

run Automatic mode in Hard-SPL, and tell me what the phone screen shows before flashing.

I've tried both modes, in automatic it say that I can't use it profesionally, I guess it complains because I already flashed the other one? But then again I can't even run the TopazSPLRelocker_SPL133, it to stays at 0% and then error, feels like the phone would have a dip switch that sayn, no flashing, but then again, stock rom just works fine everytime.
