1) Yes, all roms can be used but read carefully about "how to update" (there is a sticky post about that), there are two different ways on how to update...
2) IMO that means you don't have activesync installed (you must use an actual version)...

Alternative.......

Or may be you can have a look here, too.

Enjoy~~~

I looked through all the sticky threads and the wiki, and it mostly makes sense now.
But, what is activesync? I have not seen a reference anywhere to it, to what I recal.
And what about the error that I am getting when trying to open the ROM update utility?

ActiveSync is a piece of MicroSoft software wich connects your PPC to your PC. It is so elementary that it isn't mentioned in the guides. For every connection you want to make between PC and PPC you will need it. If not, your PPC cannot connect in a normal way to your PC. You can download ActiveSync for free at MS Downloadcentre.
As for the error, as said before it looks like ActiveSync isn't installed and therefore the connection cannot be made due to missing drivers.

Thanks a lot for the info, I realy don't know anything at all about this phone yet realy.

Oh I see now... file open error.
you've got issues with your user permissions mate, I suggest doing this while logged on as admin, or failing that, run it all from the root of your HDD
I had this same error as well I reccomend what he said above also Make sure no firewalls are up AT ALL !
My firewall is what gave me this error message ... Hope this Helps
Aha! My firewall is on... I'll take it off and try it again.
Thanks you two... I'll report back
Yeah IT usually is the firewall.... Good Luck Bro And hope it works for you

Its post #1160, you don't need to use the pc at all....
I prefer to use the sd card method to install os's too as I personally find it safer..
Cheers...
I have the same thing utility error 240. I turn off the firewall, the active sysc is good, and able to flash kaiser-HardSPLv1 but unable to flash new rom due to the 240 error. Help please?
siracer27, this is the Hermes forum... Can't really help with Kaiser...
Hope you didn't install Hermes Hard SPL on your Kaiser cos you will end up with a brick if you did...
I understand this hermes forum but try to search for error 240 and wasn't able to find it except here. any help, i have att tilt..
Only thing I can suggest is, if you're using XP, then upgrade the .net framework to 3.5.

constant crashing

after installing any of the new roms my phone constantly crashes, and i dont know why...
is there a way to pull up an error log? or someone who would know how to stop it from crashing?
ive tried, DCD 2.1, and nueROM v2, they both crash on me.
searched around, and it said i need to use a relocker after flashing the custom rom?
but i cant find a relocker for the titan.

Have you thought about searching for the term...relocker...? Just a guess.
actually i searched "titan relocker"...
and im actually wanting someone to confirm that could be the problem before i waste another 40 minutes of my life.
now im sad, are you happy?
Yes, yes I am. I had the same problem day one. If the SPL doesn't match up right, your phone will freeze minute or two after it starts up. Mine would not as long as a USB cable was plugged in. Try using this.
Hard-SPL-240-MFG.exe
yes, mine seems fine, then i unplug it and it crashes over and over again...
ok...so im using that as an unlocked which is flashing the spl.
then install the ROM, then flash the radio and it should stop crashing?
yes.

k, ty, i was using Hard-SPL-240-MFG before, but i'll try this one, even though they look the same.
WOW>.........
ive been trying to run "ROMUpdateUtility" in that folder....i was supposed to be using "titanunlocker"
k i ran it.
its now telling me, "cannot open usb" after i disabled activesync through usb
oo ya, im on vista
*Sigh* Honest helpful suggestion...don't mess with you're phone anymore. It was written in quite a few threads that Windows Vista is harder to do certain things with and will need special drivers.
i have a pc running xp, i was just being lazy, ill wait till tomorrow then redo this stuff.

Used titanunlocker.bat and worked

URGENT: Rom udpate problem!

My rom update failed, i tried 2 recover but it doesn't work.
1. i tried to reinstall the rom with ROMUpdateUtility,
but he says their is no previous version
2. i press update, again no current image
3. more then 0% i can't get
4. after 30 minutes still 0%, then suddenly
This keeps on going, a restore doesn't work
PLEASE HELP ME!!
please read the hardspl carefully ... then try again!
Are you using Vista? If so Vista cannot communicate with the device in Bootloader mode meaning you cannot update your phone. Get XP you will have alot less problems and it will work. Vista is just not worth hassel as its only really a fancy XP with some extras chucked in.

Yes but you need to follow a tutorial to get it to work on Vista. Basically its easier on XP and you will have the least problems. You using Hard-SPL?

really frustrating upgrade problem

ok ive searched everywhere and have not found a single person with this problem.
when i try to use the ruu thing it gets to the receiving information part and then gives me error 260. now that would be ok if i had vista. but i dont. i have xp.
i have the new hard-spl on it.
so im not sure whats going on. any suggestions?

[Q] BELL Atrix specific help....

hey all! great forum... former se x10 mini user... getting my atrix today!
my main question is: i want to install greyblur after rooting but there are always warnings about not installing it on the BELL version... yet i see, via their signatures, that many bell users have it installed... the guide for greyblur does not have specific instructions for bell, just has big warning in red saying not to install it on bell!
so how do i get it working?? what do i need? i'm pretty handy with android, so no need to have crazy detailed help...
thanks everyone! looking forward to learning more and more about this great device!!

See the thread called "SBF/root/deodex 2.1.1 SBF" or something along those lines (in this forum). In order to get greyblur/GingerBlur working on a bell phone you have to flash an international SBF file. Right now the most current is 2.1.1, a generic SBF (leaked from France). Just be warned that flashing this will void your warranty. However, it hasn't caused any issues itself and wont CAUSE anything on your device to fail at all, if you get into trouble its most likely just bad luck with hardware and if you REALLY need to return your phone there is a general way to make it seem like you've gone back to stock, that you can do with the help of forum members here if needed.
Not trying to scare you off, I've done this myself. I'm just making sure you understand the risks. Hope this post helps you understand what you're getting into and where to go for further info.
Also, this should be in Q&A section, not dev.

not scared at all! thanks for the PERFECT response!
Moved to proper forum.
ok, i'm going through the steps but for some reason the x64 drivers won't install (yes i have 64-bit windows.). says this:
"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."
i assumed they weren't required.
nothing happens when i run rds before plugging in phone. when i reboot the phone, i see the rds protocol message, i run rds on my pc, plug in the phone and nothing happens....
thoughts?
I know nothing about windows sorry bruvva
I do know that once you are running a p rom pretty much everything becomes compatible

well the drivers do need to be installed, you can find the necessary drivers in an executable package here although i can't tell you whether admin restrictions will block that too. might be easiest to find a PC where you can do stuff as an admin depending on your current system's configs.
once drivers are installed your PC will recognize device when in RSD mode.
I would assume that the login on your comp is not set as an administrator. You have to be logged on as an administrator to modify system files or drivers in windows.
You could also try right clicking the usb driver installation exe and choose "run as administrator".

Hey
Regarding the Win 64 driver, I had the same issue, until I realised the link given in the thread about 2.1.1/Greyblur for the driver lead to a corrupted file (~ 500 kb) even using a download manager. I downloaded them from elsewhere (Motorola Website) and the error message disappeared without having anything else to do.
Hope that helps!
Guillaume
Actually got the whole thing going a while back... sorry for not checking back!
I am officially enamoured by this phone......... the start of a beautiful and complex relationship ...
And yeah, I suspected that it had something to do with corrupt file... tried a few diff sites but all seemed the same... eventually tried a diff usb port and it worked...
