I charge my Titan via USB on my work computer. I don't have Administrator privileges on this computer so I cannot install the drivers for the phone. However, even after clicking cancel on all the Hardware Installation boxes that pop up when the phone is attached the phone is detected again and the boxes pop up again. This happens every 10 minutes or so as far as I can tell.
Is there a way to disable this without cooking nueUSB into my ROM? I'm running DCD 3.2.6 btw.
Thanks!

Same problem here. There is a CAB for nueUSB as well. I would go that route. I have backed it into my ROM. Plus I love having the Storage Card show up instead of The active Sync interface. I cannot live without that. Plus I never like to synch my phone with a PC. Do it all OTA with Exchange.
I've had issues with nueUSB where when I disconnect the device some system process starts to hang resulting in the spinning beach ball always on the screen and CPU usage going way up when the phone is just sitting there so I stay away from it. This requires a soft reset to fix.
Strangely, I have the same problem when I remove my SD card and also requires a soft reset to fix...

It sounds like you have something running that may be accesing the devices. When you disable the functionality it locks up that program or something like that.
WHat all do you have installed?

Oh for some reason I had misread something.
Here's the complete list of what I have installed right now:
S2U2
Total Commander
HomeScreen PlusPlus (formerly BatteryStatus)
Pocket Player
TouchPal
MemMaid
FTouchFlo
GC Java Pack 1.2.4
Google Maps
Talkonaut
GPS Viewer
Nilisco Flashlight
1-Calc
Parlringo
Pocket RAR
Resco Explorer
Resco Registry Add-in
SBSH.net PocketWeather
Schap's FTouchFlo Configurator
Skunkworks FlashVideoBundle
Skyfire
SpaceTime
Spb Backup
Spb Diary
Spb Pocket Plus
TCPMP AAC Plugin
TCPMP
Calctor Mobile
TomTom Navigator (installed to SD)
FlexMail4
I didn't realize that nueUSB would disconnect the SD card when you plug the phone in. Having realized this today I realized my two problems were very much related. So I decided I better look into fixing it.
After a little troubleshooting I narrowed the problem down to the Spb Pocket Plus Today plug-in. I thought it was odd that that program would cause an issue with the SD card since I didn't think it had anything related to the SD card. I didn't even have an icon displaying the SD card's free space on it.
After delving into the menus a little more I found one option that had to do with the SD card. "Refresh icons in today plug-in when storage card is inserted." It would make sense that this could be my problem since the problem only occurs when the SD card is removed and then reinserted. Not if it is just removed. So I unchecked this option and viola! nueUSB causes no problems for me now
Ok. Hope this is not thread crapping. But I have a question. What does nueUSB do? I have searched the forums but besides some *issues* and a flame war of someone who did or didn't steal it I don't find my answer. Can someone answer this simple question?
It gives you the option to use your phone as a USB SD card reader. So when you connect your phone to your PC it is detected as a mass storage device and you can read and write to the SD card.
oh goody. That would help me get around the activsync issue I have at work. LOL
Usually if you are having problems with nueMassStorage, it is because of other programs (like stated earlier). I have been using nueMassStorage for a while now, and it has really come in handy for those times you are at a computer that does not have active sync installed.
If you don't want Activesync or mass storeage or anything, just use a cable that has no data lines, just power.

I have been experiencing some issues when trying to connect and synchronise my XDA2 with my desktop and I was wondering if it was a known issue. Firstly, the XDA2 has had it's ROM updated to 1.60.50.
The problem is when I try to connect to ActiveSync 3.7.1 more often than not, it connects, user authenticates and shortly after disconnects before it even starts synching. The only time I can guarantee it will work is when I re-install ActiveSync 3.7.1 and bond the devices for the first time. Eventually I isolated it down to a problem with the XDA2:
I have two means of synchronising - with the USB cradle and via a bluetooth dongle therefore it is not a case of a faulty cradle. The USB's on my computer are USB 1.1, not the latest USB 2 but I do not see that as an issue.
After a hard reset of the XDA2 and no extra software installed, I still experience the problem so it is not a software issue, which only leaves a problem with the XDA2. There is a possibility that the user authentication fails and that is the reason it disconnects but I would expect an error message telling me so - is this the case?
So in summary, connects when re-install activesync 3.7.1 and will continue to reconnect while the computer is turned on. But after you turn the computer off and restart it, more often than not when you attempt to synchronise, it opens the port, connects, user authenticates and then suddenly stops. The signal bar changes to the connected columns and then back to the normal radio columns.
Have there been any issues like this before?
Activesync XDA II problems - a coincidence ?
I have exactly the same problem. I'm not sure exactly when it started, but I think it was about a week ago.
I've done hard resets on the XDA and tried everything I could think of, but still can't get it working. Up until about a week or so ago it was all working fine and had been for months.
Some of the things I have tried have been :
- hard reset the XDA.
- uninstall activesync 3.71, delete the activesync dir, download a fresh copy and install.
- do the above but using version 3.7
- delete partnership.
- delete the PPC device from Device Manager and start again.
- switch off AV software, firewall etc
- uninstall and re-install Outlook 2000.
- uninstall Outlook and install Outlook 2002
- Tried connecting using IR instead of USB
- Tried BT but the port sets itself up as COM10 which AS cannot see !
- numerous other things that I won't bore you with !
Nothing works. I get a brief glimmer of hope and then it packs up again.
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Pro with XP Pro and I was at the point where I was about to back up back up my personal files and use the system restore disk on it. I was chatting to a friend this afternoon and mentioned my problem. He told me that there are a number of people in his office, all of them have XDA II's, and all of them have got this exact same problem. All of them had a working and stable Activesync until about a week or so ago and now NONE of them can get connected and have the same problems that you described.
This seems more than a coincidence to me and doesn't sound to me like an XDA problem. Could this be some Microsoft updates / patches that have screwed things up ?
BTW - the XDA seems rather useless when you can't get any software or data in or out of it !

I also had exactly the same problem for me.
I tried everything, nothing worked.
I had to make a hard reset then reinstall manually all the software (backup didn't solve the problem too).
Now, everything is OK,...so far!
ActiveSync problems
I think the difference is that both myself and the guy that started this thread have done hard resets and it still doesn't work.

I think I have found a routine whereby it seems to work (although this could be all nonsense).
Right click on the activesync icon and open it, click on Options, do nothing and close the dialog box (that part probably isn't necessary), now try to sync from the XDA2. Using a bluetooth dongle to sync, this now works everytime (so far)
I thought you had cracked it. It synchronised ok, but then dropped the connection shortly afterwards. It's now back to sitting with the spinning green wheel and the message 'Connecting ...', which never actually connects. The XDA displays a message box saying 'Communications Error', 'Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. Re-connect your device. If the problem persists, see Microsoft Activesync Help'. Which is a fat lot of good !
It's all back to where I started !

Bought a touch pro knowing that the backlight on the screen works, but that the actual screen doesn't. I've tried connecting it to the computer and it said it that the phone needs to be unlocked first...i was going to see if I could unstall SOTI on there and use the computer to view the screen and stuff...i've tried hard resets and I'm lost can anyone help.
Bad screen or flex cable
Open and close the handset while it is turned on, if it flickers or you see any color or shape goasting then the flex cable is needs replacing.
If you can see the backlight on, and nothing changes then look for impact damage, usually something/somone fell on it.
If no damage markings, then the unit is probably locked, an no one knows the code.
Contact seller for more info?
I haven't try to recover a locked TP yet.
But, If your up to trying something. Find the correct "Service Provider" up-date or original shipped ROM from HTC support, this forum or PPCGeeks.com.
With the shipped .exe ROM packages, the TP can be put in bootloader and "Clean Flashed" without needing to be unlocked or add anything.
This how updated ROM are delivered and installed from HTC.
Hope this bit of info helps. I have the Last Alltel .exe if you need it.
Thanks for the info but sadly that didn't work. The loader says it can't establish a connection.
Well update got the phone to hard reset and now it's unlocked can anyone walk me though what happens after the hard reset. Like after the hard reset what screens show up show that i can set this up without the screen and use my SOTI program to view the screen on the computer

Here is the thing. The rom is going to start up doing the initial setup (calibration, time zone selection, etc). Mymobiler might work better since it installs via activesync and connects to the device the moment you plug it in. Give that a go and see if it works.
Thank you i will try that
Probably not the right place to ask but is there someway i can install a program on the phone without any kind of input from myself...ie putting mymobiler or similar cab file and having it run it when i inserted the memory card and i not having to make any kind of inputs on the screen? seeing as i can't see anything?

If you put an autorun file in the root of the card pointing to that cab, you should be able to do this. However, the device will ask you if you want to install to memory or storage. I guess if you simply press the "Enter" button (circle in the D-pad), it might just do it.
Hello there guys. This is my first post on this forum, so please bear with me. I have problem on my device. Basically my htc hd2 was running fine, i had all my programs installed etc. I have created various backups of the phone using sprite backup.
I decided to do a hard reset because the phone never used to go into standby (screen off) when charging, only the backlight used to dim. I checked all the settings and i set the device to dim after 1 min and switch off after 2 mins when connected to external power. It still never switched off, this was turning out to be a nuisence specially when getting missed calls at night and screen staying on.
Therefore i done a hard reset and used sprite backup to restore various backup's as i had a few, but they wernt making the device function correctly. So once the backup file's were restored everything would be fine on the phone untill it went into standby, it then would fail to respond, sometimes the hardware button light up, sometimes nothing. The screen would remain off. I would really like to use the backup files as restoring the phone manually would be teadous. Any clues in what could be causing this, cant be the case off a bad backup as i have created a few.
P.S When hd2 is returned to stock it functions normally. Programs installed battlog, clear temp, bsb tweakes opera 10, opnmarket, skype, spb wireless monitor, coreplayer, srs wowhd 1.5.1.0 v2.1, coreplayer 1.3.6, myplayer, 1NETCFv35.wm.armv4i, 2NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm, resco explorer + reg editor, cht cookie hometab.
Really appreciate it if you pros can shed any light on this? cheers
Same problem here!
Hi,
I face exactly the same problem - some days ago I was forced into a hard reset because I couldn't unlock my HD2 anymore (the PIN was not accepted anymore, which seems to be a know Win Mobile 6 bug...).
Nevertheless, after the hard reset, I restored from a previous Sprite Backupset and now the phone most of the time never wakes up from standby anymore - this drives me nuts!
I really do not to install everything from scratch (what is backup good for if the restored system does not function properly??
Any clues how to solve this issue?
Jan
Seems like the program you are using for backups of software isn't backing up properly and creating a corrupt backup. I would recommend just reinstalling everything from scratch.
What i recommend is just saving all the cab files on your SD card and when you need to hard-reset you can just run through all the installation instead of keep downloading the cab files. Also some Roms have auto-install folders where you can place your cab files in a certain folder and it will install everything for you. Other than that your pretty much SOL. Hope this helps.

SPB Backup v2.1.0 build.3536 has served me well ...
SPB Backup. I've had to restore backups to my phone several times, and it's worked like a charm. Be sure to consider using the SPB Backup Sync feature, which allows you to also so keep copies of your backups on another computer.

I think, I have solved the problem. hi guys
I'm not really sure what my hd2 is doing.
I wanted to listen to music but it couldn't find any music files (I use the simple music player from within htc sense). So i turned it off and forgot to turned it back on. 2-3h later (now) I reminded myself and turned it back on.
The starting process war so slow and suddenly I expected something strange and it really happened:
Windows Mobile started complete new like after an rom upgrade or your very first starting.
Calender, mails, configurations, installed software - it all rolled by my mind.
But no,everything is still there.
Ok,I need to configure WLAN again and it forgot my mail password and some minor configurations are different but it seems everything is working...
Microsoft My Phone can't be started...
"is not responding and needs to be closed due unexpected errors.go to "all programs -> my phone" to start it again"...
my HD2:
rom version: 3.14.407.2 (GER) (the "latest" official rom from htc)
mila version: 2.5.20181527.0
So...
I have no idea how this is possible. I just turned it off and on again.
And I thinks it's very strange that My Phone isn't working anymore.
Maybe broken flash memory inside my device?
Time for a hard reboot methinks
I agree with johnerz it sounds like house need to do a hard reset of your HD2. But I sugest trying to vet Microsoft My Phone working first. Have you set up hour MSN live on your HD2 sense this strange acorrance? If not do so cause you have to set it up first before Microsoft My Phone willsign in and work. Also try downlodind and reinztalling Microsoft My Phone frimths market place. Wish youluck.
I have had the same issue, had to flash back to stock, then !twice! to the rom I wanted. This solved it.
Unfortunately there was no My Phone download in the market place. So I try surfing myphone.microsoft. com. It deleted the old version of My Phone and needs to restart the device.
After restarting the date is suddenly at some time in Nov 2009?!
Anyway...it's working and I can make my backups.
But what about the hard reset?
There are two ways to do a factory reset. One way is perform a clear storage process through the phone settings. The other way is to perform a hard reset by pressing certain buttons on your phone, in cases when you are unable to start up your phone and enter the phone settings.

there is no difference between these two methods, right?
I will remove Sim card and memory card (just in case).
And you really think this will solve my problem?
Hopefully it's not a hardwarebased problem -.-
So,I will try the clear storage process via settings...
Hi, can someone help. I have the S3, rooted, and tried yesterday to go into settings, more settings, nearby devices, file sharing. However all of the options including the `radio' button is greyed out?
Has anyone else come across this?
I thought it may have been kernel specific, I was using Franko's R14, so I re-flashed the standard build I9300XXBLG8 with the root maintained but still no joy?
Can anyone help?
Screen shot attached!
Thanks

You might have already tried this but just keep taping on the file sharing switch, my phone was doing the same thing with all the buttons grayed out but i just taped that switch like 10 times and it ungreyed and started to let me turn it on and off.
Sorry if you have tried this already.

Thanks for the help, just found the answer in another thread, I had to goto settings/application manager/click the ALL tab, scrolled down to the `Nearby devices APP' and clicked Cleared Data, went back to settings/more settings/nearby devices and it worked. Thanks to whoever posted that!
Worked for me
I had the same problems, eventually fixed it by removing the micro sd card, clearing nearby devices data and restarting the phone. Once I confirmed everything was working, I reinserted the micro sd card and now everything works as it should. I hope this helps someone.
Didn't work for me. Only for the first time after deleting the data it worked, the on/off switch was enabled immediately. When I went to the menu for a second time, I had to wait for about 15 seconds, before the switch became enabled again.

Mines still borked too!
I've read that even doing a factory reset still doesn't sort it, maybe its an issue with firmware? I'll try deleting cache and dalvik cache in cwm to see if that helps.
. . to confirm clearing nearby devices works but only temporarily
edit / update:
well it seems clearing the cache and dalvik cache doesn't seem to do any good either, but I had some success.
Firstly I cleared nearby devices cache / data again (whilst I was in the vicinity of my wifi network with wifi turned on on the phone at the time, don't know whether this is important but it seemed to kick things into working for me at least)
The dnla settings became live again, but I noticed my wifi icon was gone even though wifi was turned on on the phone, so I toggled the wifi button and heypresto things started to happen! and was able to see my phone on the PS3 and share files etc.
After I switched off the phone and rebooted (with dnla left in the on position) the dnla app was greyed out again, however a quick trip to wifi settings to toggle on and off again (and also remove some 'remembered' wifi connections that I no longer use) meant the dnla share started working again no problem (and without clearing any near by devices data again).
Hope my experience gives some pointers to others out there to get theirs working!.
Edit 2:
Still getting a grey DNLA inactive screen, but by turning your wifi off and on, on your phone a few times (in range of your wifi network) it seems to jump DNLA into life . . . hope it helps
Edit 3:
Seems that going into advanced settings in wifi (go into wifi settings not just turning it on) and altering the wifi sleep policy seems to correct the issue, I toggled from 'never turn off' to 'turn off', then back on again, and DNLA app seems to work fine now . . ...

open the window and wait 5-10 seconds and it starting then Disable content "music","images" and "videos" in the nearby devices settings, and tne next time it works fine!
I've been having this issue since day 1 of getting the phone, took it to store and they couldn't figure it out and said as it's not a fault they couldn't exchange it. For me it was a fault as the main reason I got the phone is to stream media to my TV and the blu ray in living room. Thanks to this thread I am now able to do this, tapped on some of the options several times until a pop up appeared and got it working.
Seem's like a odd bug which I hope Samsung update with the JB update.
Connect to your wireless router with your wifi
then toggle your wifi direct on
go in near by devices and wait until screen come to life (not geyed out)
don't touch the screen while waiting it doesn't help.
it can take a second or two or even a minute or so (keep the screen on by looking at it)
when it light up it's up and running.
DLNA greyed out
FYI:
I found the problem to be related to the number of files (multimedia in general so mp3, jpgs, mp4 etc) on your external SD card: if you have several thousands of pictures and mp3 files like I do on a 32GB or 64GB SD card, it is near impossible for this service to enumerate them without lagging(!). You can see for yourself by simply unmounting the external SD card (settings -> memory -> unmount SD card) and then entering the DLNA sharing: you will see the option turns white after a mere second and you can enable or disable the service rather quickly without problems. Even if you untick the sharing of Video, Images and Music, after mounting the SD card and re-enabling the DLNA sharing service, you will still see the option greyed out. It is trying to enumerate in any case all the MM files on your SD card but takes a hell of a long time before it finishes, becoming white again. Why it is so slow is up to the developers to find out as it shouldn't. I suspect there is a scanning bug somewhere in the enumeration process.
You can enable a debug option which will popup a window if an app is taking a long time to respond or is hanging so you can see what app is causing the problem. You'll see that even after you go back to the main screen once you have selected the DLNA sharing menu (which is greyed out), the phone is sluggish as it is scanning the SD card and after a couple of minutes the warning will popup allowing you to terminate the service or wait until it is finished. You can enable this option in the developer options page, last setting "show all ANR" (or NRA as mine is not in English). I suggest you all to keep this option always enabled as it will give you more insight on what apps are causing your phone to lag and are problematic.
This should be reported to the developers at Samsung or Google/Android as I'm certain it is not a major problem to be fixed.
My S3 has currently build BLH3.
As a side note, unfortunately my popcorn A-110 which has DLNA support, is no longer working with the S3 built in "share" button that pops up in the player (top left): it sees my popcorn but when I try to "export" the song clicking on the button, it just fails to playback. Similarly, when I enable the DLNA sharing, my A-110 sees my S3 but only see the images but it fails to show them. It doesn't even list the songs. This is a fimrware big in the A-110 though (it seems it only lists jpgs and avi files and not mp3 files). My LG P990 does however work with my A-110 correctly playing back songs (though the scanning function is not working) and images. I guess it's time I got a more recent popcorn though it'sa pity as mine work so well for over 3 years.
Anyhow, I hope this shed some light on the matter
Edit: sorry guys, I just read the post by foo - so this one's kind of a double :/

Hi
Yes I think this is main part of the problem.
However I think this part of the problem is caused by a combination of the type of SD card and the mounting of the card.
I was using all the tricks mentioned above then I discovered what you did.
What seems to be causing the SD card problem is the mounting of the card it don’t seem to mount properly (even though the rest of the phone seems to operate fine). I simply unmounted removed card remounted repeated a few time. That seemed the get a more stable mount…..
On some phones I’ve found it necessary to remove SD card contents to a laptop and reformate the SD card in the phone. Again I reformatted the card 2 or 3 time for luck (not in laptop but in the phone). Put contents back on and the phones can now access the SD card without problem…

Yes, I had formatted this SD card on my prior phone (LG P990) though I did not reformat it on this phone. I have had the problem you mention before on other flash devices and it appears the mere disposition of the files in the sdcard/ssd influences access times for certain files depending on where they are (all controllers now write files in random blocks to avoid cell deterioration). This all leads back to the diatribe about defragging or not flash / SSD devices. This really depends on the controller inside the flash device basically. In any case, simply defragging the SD card DOES help, and resolves the laggy access problems most of the time. I will do this on my Sandisk 32GB SD card (again) and see if access times improve and this lag problem improves. On a side note, writing the whole card with a certain hex pattern also helps the access times. I do this regularly on my SSD device on my laptop after I delete/defrag many files. If I don't, it starts lagging like hell after some time.
Cheers
