MW600's should it display the track details when playing back ? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I just bought an MW600 (from AccessoryJack.com as gave up waiting for them to get released in the UK!) which got shipped from Hong Kong.
All working perfectly, really impressed with the sound quality and paired dead easily with my X10 and my laptop as well, will come in handy for Skype
Only issue I have is that the documentation states that the MW600 should display the track details when playing back. I've not found any instructions on disabling it so assume they should always show but they aren't ??
When I get a call the phone number displays fine and the other icons (volume, etc) all show fine so I know the screen is ok on it.
Have emailed Sony Ericsson support about it but just wondered if anyone on here has experience with them and can confirm that track details should show up as advertised ?? (I have checked and the mp3s are tagged up fine, etc and show the details in Windows fine and on the X10 itself).

The MW600 will not show the tags in combination with the #xperia! Sry... But i think SE has made a HUGE mistake with that...

I may be wrong, but I thought I read it does, but not when using Mediascape. Have you tried a different music player to see?

I tried many Players, it will don't work.

Yep I've tried a fair few players (Mediascape, 3Player, NutSie Itunes player, Google Listen) and none give track details.
A bit annoying as it states it does show them in all the literature!
As mentioned in my original post have emailed SE support so will see what they have to say.

I think this is an Android limitation, given that my magic also didnt display Track names ...

this is actually a limitation of the android 1.6 bluetooth stack, so it wont work with the X10. i think it is supported in 2.1 but it's up to the app to support it as well. it works with my W995

It doesn't show tracks on the HTC Desire either which I expected, but I would have expected them to work fine with the X10.....

Is there radio in MW600?? and if how do i turn it on??

1 Press and hold down PLAY until the audio device selection menu appears.
2 Use the touch volume control to select the FM radio. The FM radio is automatically
started.

This is all a bit annoying, having just ordered a MW600 myself... I just hope it will be fixed in the 2.x update later on in the year.

Does this happen with anyone else? If you put the phone on vibrate and you're listening to music if you get a text the music just stops but if you have the phone on vibrate you would hear the text ringtone from phone and the mw600. Is this just another problem due to andriod 1.6? All my SE phones plays ringtones while on vibrate.
i accidentally charged my x10 with my mw600 charger. It still worked but I rather just keep one charger instead constantly swapping. The x10 charger might have a higher output than the mw600 one. So would it be safe using the mw600 on the X10?

Confirmation that all of the MW600 features don't work with our lovely X10's

Reply back finally! Not good news, heads up for anyone thinking of buying the MW600 to use with the X10 (like I did):
"
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre regarding your Sony Ericsson MW600 headset.
We can confirm that the Sony Ericsson MW600 headset does not show track details.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Kind Regards,
Sony Ericsson UK Customer Services"
I have asked if there are any plans for any updates to the X10 to do this but not holding my breath! Oh well £39.99 for an accessory that only half works (even though it's in all the official adverts, etc), marvellous!

Hi all! How do you consider the volume level with MW600? At max is it high or not?
Thanks!

I have no complaints with the sound volume or quality with the MW600's on my X10. I don;t use the bundled headphones though, use a different pair of Sony inner ear headphones I bought, as that may make a difference maybe too but having the volume over about 2/3 is loud and on full it proper blasts out

SE UK support confirm that MW600 will not fully work with X10

Heard back again, not sounding good with regards the MW600's being ever fully functional (ie. show track listing info. and time, etc. when hooked up to the X10, or any Android phone for that matter!) :
Dear Charles,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre regarding your Sony Ericsson MW600.
We can advise that the MW600 device does show track listings on a Java based handset. But that service is not compatible with Android software hence it will not work when connected to the X10 handset.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I've got a X10 and a MW-600 headset myself, and I also contacted the support (Dutch) today. Im awaiting the reply.
In the meantime, I find it hard to believe that SE would make a huge f*ck up like this, and that an issue like this can't be fixed with an update of an extra app.
We'll just wait the response.

Before anyone starts blaming SE for all this, it is really Google's fault.
For some strange reason, Google decided not to develop the Android's OS to fully implement bluetooth functions. Hence, you can't use your bluetooth headset to voice dial. Something that is so common even with dumbphones. Even Android 2.1 does not do that.
I really don't understand Google's decision on this. It is not that hard to do. Just buy someone else's bluetooth license.

Allright, thanks for clarifying that.

Headphones...

Hi all!
I'm new here after I searched desperately the web for good and useful info on my device.
Since I am located in Germany, I got the T-Mobile MDA Vario and I just love it. I admit I don't use to many of its functions but I use it as contacts-backup, mini-TV and MP3-Player with an 1GB miniSD and the Headset that came with it and I started to be sorry for the iPod-owners who have to get their phone out and earphones out in order to make or receive calls. Unfortunately, its not that convenient yet because my voice dial wont work with the headset-button and I neither can't receive calls by pressing it... I only can adjust the volume.
So, is there something like a bug or software I needed to have?
However, I'm about to upgrade for Bluetooth anyway (maybe for Christmas ). I wonder whether e.g. the Motorola HT820 works. Since I'm not to much into this, I can't quite figure out this A2DP-Stuff... So: is the MDA Vario working with these devices or not?
Thanks a lot!
also new (very new)
im in pretty much the same boat, but there is a bit of info about this stuff on here. the headset you mentioned seems to be a popular one so I would assume that it works.
As for the A2DP stuff I dont know anything beyond what Ive read, but its seems that if you want higher quality sound and stereo then you gotta get a2dp, but at the cost of significantly shorter battery life.
for the most part people will be hesitant to respond to a post on a topic that has been covered before, use the search feature.
start here.

I have Motorola HT820s and i'm very satisfied with them. the quality of the sound is good and the voice calls are great. i have though Faria's 3.2 ROM on the wizard. you can try to get HBH-DS970 from sony ericsson those are great BT heads too, but unfortunately they are not available yet in Romania.

BlueAnt X5 A2DP Stereo Headphones

Ok...
I haven't found anyone else that would admit to trying these headphones with my phone (Dopod 838 Pro).
The headphones themselves are pretty cool. They fit pretty well, don't look toooo dorky, and the buttons click nicely etc. I haven't had them go flat on me yet. They could have come with a protective case though, and you have to take the microphone off to charge them, and I'm always afraid I will lose it.
When I first got them, they sounded crap. AM radio crap. I updated them to the latest firmware from the BlueAnt website (what a drama).
Tested, and they worked ok with the dongle - not exactly hifi sound, but the quality was ok to listen to.
Next I called BlueAnt HQ here in Australia, and after getting put through to a tech support guy he told me "They should work fine, I tried them with an iMate JasJam - no problems. Do a reset and try re-pairing them" (Duh).
Then I called the Dopod support line in Australia. During business hours. It goes through to an answering machine that doesn't even have an introduction message. Left a message. No reply.
Just as I was about to return them, I found the A2DP software tweak/patch on the wiki. First let me just say:
AAARRRGHHHH! What they hell are Microsoft thinking? Why have a registry setting \HKLM\StereoMusic\MakeMyMusicSoundLikeCrap=1 setting in the first place, and THEN why ship all phones with that enabled as the default? How many people have returned perfectly functioning Bluetooth headsets because of that? STUPID. I reckon Microsoft/HTC owe BlueAnt (and others) a truck load of money.
Secondly, that helps. Music is now stereo. I've been using them every day for a few weeks now. The bad news:
1) The quality is still very poor. There is a metallic hissing/sizzling/sibilance sound, especially noticeable on female vocals, which sounds (to me) exactly like a poor bitrate encoding error. The quality is much worse than when I pair it to the dongle it came with. I suspect it is the phone (or the MS BT stack) at fault not the headset. I would really like to be able to fix this.
2) With Wifi enabled, the music cuts out every few seconds. Unlistenable.
3) With Wifi disabled, I get the occasional glitch. I can live with that (if I must)
4) Using the headset profile during a phonecall, the sound I hear isn't too bad (a little muffled) but people tell me I sound really distant and hard to hear.
5) The AVRCP support is dodgy. Most of the time it works. Often when I first hit Play, it plays for a few seconds and then stops. I have to hit Play/Pause again and it starts. Track seek and volume up/down seem to work well. Answering a phone seemed hit and miss at first, but seems to mostly be working now. Not sure if this is the phone or the headset.
The iMate JasJam listed in the compatitabilty section of the BlueAnt website, but the Dopod 838 Pro is not. I emailed BlueAnt with my findings, and suggested they add the A2DP hack to their FAQ for other users. Hasn't appeared yet.
So, my questions:
1) Has anyone tried these headphones on a Hermes device? Does your experience mirror mine? Or is one of my devices faulty? Is the voice quality on the headset profile ok?
2) Is there a Widcomm (?) stack that works on the Hermes that may fix the problem, or...is it likely to be any better with WM6?
3) Does anyone have an A2DP headset of any brand working on a Hermes with "Crystal clear CD quality sound" like it says on the box the headphones came in. If so, what brand? If it is possible to get a good sound out of the MS BT stack, it might be worth pushing BlueAnt to release a new firmware to fix the issues.
4) Would a Bluetooth 2.0 headset give a better result? (Is it a bandwidth issue?)
Any replies would be helpful.
Thanks guys,
Zilch.
Yep I have an X5 unit connected to my Imate Jasjam and have not updated the firmware.
Yes it did skip when I first tried it but after a bit of experimenting, discovered turning off WiFi fixed it.
Yes it was mono till I did the reg hack to make it stereo.
No I don't get any hiss and think the quality is great (I know this is subjective but I tested female vocals as you suggested and they were great -Croncrete Blond, Eurythmics, Dyvinals, and even Chris Issac)
You may want to go here http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/default.aspx to realise the complications/dificulties the Ms WM guys are up against. I am sure they had a good reason to set the default to mono (maybe some devices didn't work at all with it set to stereo)
I would have to suggest there are other issues with your setup that are compromising the playback quality. I honsetly am impressed.
I don't use it as a phone headset as I use the X3 model to connect to two phones (I like Blue Ant stuff), so I can't comment on the mic quality.
When you consider that most people are having a nightmare with their stereo headsets (read the Widicom thread, if you have a lifetime to spare), then I am totally impressed with Blue Ant.
Sorry to have to disagree with you.

Hmm...ok. Are you saying that the quality from your JasJam is the same as if you used the supplied Bluetooth Dongle that comes with the X5? (That's my goal currently)
If so, maybe there is some sort of configuration difference between the JasJam and the Dopod. (The JasJam is on the compatibility list, and the support guy did say he had used it ok)
I'm not just being an anal hifi buff here. The sound quality is obviously poor, and quite noticeable. You probably don't have it, but if you listen to the track 'Lithum' by 'Evanescense' it makes you cringe when the vocals come in (the piano sounds relatively normal. It's noticable in all tracks, but specifically in tracks like that.
Did you use this utility to tweak the A2DP sound settings? Or edit the registry manually (if so, can you tell me what settings you used?)

I don't really accept that as a valid reason. Sure they have problems. The least they could do is make a user tweakable UI to change that setting. It's not acceptable to have a protocol designed for stereo music set to mono and no way for a user to change it.

I haven't used the dongle for a long time but when I did it was thru my HiFi playing CDs not MP3 so there may have been a difference in quality but never bothered to compare as I never had a problem with the playback quality from my Imate.
I did a manual reg fix using the wiki recommendations of 48 and 0.
I have model H1.
You may be right that the Imate is configured a little differently but I also run it very clean.
I have so few problems compared to what I read that I feel embarressed that I'm so lucky. As an IT consultant I just luv it as my work phone - I use VPN, Terminal Services, WiFi, Push Email, internet access, etc... and it's a phone! Constantly impressed.

Just for the record, I got the headphones a few days after I got the phone. The only thing I had done was put my SIM card in, copy a few MP3s and change the default theme (since the Dopod one is grey).
There were no mods/hacks/cooked ROMS/tweaks etc. Just the ROM it came with which is also the latest version on the Dopod website. My phone is supplied to me by work, so I need it to be as reliable as possible - I can't afford to mess around with it. (Which is one of the reasons I resent having to edit the registry to get some stereo headphones to play in stereo)
Note: Today I have a few apps installed. An RSS reader, train timetable, TomTom etc. Only hack is the registry change for A2DP, and a util which sets the soft input to Block Recognition mode on startup. None of these seem to have affected the quality of the A2DP stream in any way though.
Unless I can try my headphones with someone's JasJam, or another Dopod I'm not sure I'm going to be able to narrow down the issue. I think it has to be a difference in the X4 hardware/firmware or an issue with the Dopod ROM (compared to the JasJam one)

I have it as a work phone too - and work in IT. I haven't had any issues with it except Windows Media Player losing the tracks on the storage card, and the device locking up from time to time (this is always when I am not using it - it is turned off and does not turn back on). Overall it's a great phone!

I was actually considering getting an X3 as well (they look cool), but I will wait until I have worked out the issues with my X5.
Just thinking about this. How does it work? You are bopping along to your perfect A2DP sound, and you somehow hear the phone ringing, so you take off the stereo headphones, get your X3 out of your pocket, insert it in your ear, and answer the phone!?

Don't use X5 at work, but when I'm relaxing at the beach or around the pool. Use X3 connected to my Imate and my private phone at work. AT the time it was the only headset that would connect to more than one device and works great.

Kupur was applauding an admitted newbie who, after 1 hr of owning his device decided it wasn't right and flashed it with some cooked rom, upgraded the radio, and SIM/CID unlocked it!!
How can this guy have any point of referance? How can he know he has made an improvement if he never bothered to use it properly in it's std state? And he will no doubt curse and abuse Ms and HTC for producing crap hardware and software.

If I was tempted to do that, right after getting it is probably when I would do it. Reloading all your stuff sucks. Plus if he needed it SIM unlocked to use it that could be why.
Plus, what a better way to learn than bricking a $900 brand new phone?

To answer my own question in case anyone else is having this issue...it's all fixed with the official WM6 ROM. Works perfectly. (Except for the dropouts when WiFi is enabled)
yeah I have them and have had for quite some time now ... first used them with my Eten G00 then the G500+, then I changed phones to a nokia n73 and things didn't seem so good. anymore I lost the remote functions and even though I like the new phone I missed some things like nav and others so i went back tot he g00+. I have now updated to the HTC Tytn II I think sim to your hermes ....
I find nothing wrong the x5 controls a re great and quality is exceptable... I have no issues with Wifi.. I have the updated firmeware on my x5 and the stock firmware on my tytn II..
I also have a hs850 paired to the device the only thing I deslike on the hole issue is that everytime I use the x6 I have to fiddle around getting them to resume the pairing.
where as my hs-850 I just turn on blue tooth and turn on the headset... and off we go...
I have the x5 set as default headset and default stereo headset... the hs850 is just another device listed and pairs up soon as its turned on.
Can someone post me the headset firmware and how to use it?

[MINI PRO][SK17][CICADA] Continuous electrostatic noise when the device is active

Hi all!
I've got some strange electrostatic noise from the back side of my mini pro (when the screen is on and even off - just listen to it longer). And it turned out that the problem is common for new mini pro (some people just doesn't mention it). Looks like it is hardware one, so it could harm overall device work in the future (no one know when). So this thread was started to collect all related info: reasons, workarounds, solutions, official comments etc. If you're sk17 owner, please, take part in this thread (check instructions below).
Sony tells that the problem was solved. So if you have this issue:
1. Update the software of your device via SEUS or PC Companion
2. Visit repair centre if the problem remains
3. Having troubles with the repairment? Contact Johan-SEAnswers on official SE forum

At the moment both SK17i and SK17a are reported to have this issue. Production weeks mentioned: 11W28, 11W29, 11W30, 11W31, 11W32, 11W33, 11W34, 11W35, 11W36, 11W37, 11W38.
How to check the device?
Listen to samples to know what kind of noise we're speaking about.
Turn the screen on, place the backside of your mini pro near your ear and here it is (the best part of the backside to 'enjoy' that sound is upper left corner, right under the headphones jack). Though sometimes you can hear it even when you're calling someone if the environment is quite enough. And it's still here when the screen is off (not continuous if there's no active apps; several short clicks with silent intervals). Actually, the noise is here when the device is active (even with the screen off). For example, connect headphones, start the music player, lock the screen and check the noise.
Please, share the results of your tests in comments below and take part in SE community discussion mentioned above. This could help us to know more about this problem and get it faster to solve the issue. If you do not have the noise, please, make a short video in silent environment, upload it to youtube or somewhere else and share the link with us!
Contact SE support in your country with the problem description via email, twitter, facebook etc. If you'll get some interesting info from them, please, share it with us.
The device is checked. What to post?
Please, first of all contribute to the related thread in official SE community (look at the BIG red text above).
Do your device has that noise or not? If not, proove it by video sample.
Info about your device: SK17i or SK17a, country, SI and production week (a string like "11W28", which means 28th week of 2011; you may use the template under the BIG red text). All could be found at the sticker under the battery.

We've got more info. SE promises to solve the problem via software update (check this post for details). The same day me and BlackArty got similar emails from Russian SE Customer Support, which promised to launch that update in mid-October.
I sent an email to Russian SE Customer Support. They told me to go to service. Without any comments. It was done on August, 20.
UPD The phone got back on August, 25 with software reinstalled and noise persisted. Though they told me that 'there's no described problem'.
sxxorp has got a little bit more info from them. Check his posts: #31 and #32.
Somewhat like the first official approval of the problem: SE left the comment under one of the 'noisy videos':
Hi Everyone, we are investigating this noise that some people are hearing. Please be sure to check out our forum at our website for any more news. - Jeff

There's the similar comment in the official thread.
Probable reasons
No ideas for now.
Workarounds / solutions
Removing the back cover reduces the noise.
Looks like plugging USB-cable in (doesn't matter if it's plugged into laptop or charger) removes the noise. But still some quite clicks (not so annoying though).
(thanks to BlackArty)The noise disappears when the processor is loaded heavily. For example, run the StabilityTest (could be downloaded from Market for free) and check your device. You'll hear only 'metronome clicks'.
Check post #3 and #10 by sxxorp to find out what else we've tried to do.

P.P.S. My mini pro is SK17i, 11W28, SI 1249-4753.
Thanks for confirming this issue. I was vaguely looking at getting the Mini Pro but if this is such an issue I don't think I will bother for now.
Hi, thanks for dealing with the issue, you wrote many new info on the topic - and it doesn't sound good... seems like a hardware-plan related construction problem... Many sample videos contain the same problem - in fact I haven't seen one without it...
I'd like to have one Mini Pro, but this holds me back.
Is it the same with the Mini (ST15i)?
You said on the official forum that you contacted SE - how, and did they answer?
Ideas:
- any possibility to separate the mic from the 3.5 jack, with some small material?
- plug-in only the USB-cable (or a chunk of it...) without anything on the other side (no laptop/charger) , does it work?
(- maybe recording with headset connected , so the jack is plugged-in? (or does this prevent the phone to record video with sounds?))
sorry if these can't be made, I'm before purchasing the mobile I can't test the ideas... but it'd be good to have a solution!
I got an answer from SE customer support. They told me to go to service.
I did it. So no tests for a while. Sorry. I'll give more info when the device comes back. Maybe, someone else will test it? I'm sure that there's another sk17 owners on forum
As I told you there are several sample videos on youtube, as I can recall all sharing this problem... I suppose Minis without keyboard don't have this noise, jack was placed totally different.
What could a service do with this problem?? It seems badly planned, rather than faulty hardware...
Keep us updated: your phone becoming OK or not (and how they did it...)
noise confirm
i know i have this little chirp or scratch noise. exactly like the video in the 1st post of the russian youtube. i'v tried to record in vga and same thing happens. i love the phone but a lithe disappointed in the recording chirp background. not horribly bad but still bad.

So it is just the Pro and not the Mini that has this issue?
I'm not sure, but I've seen videos made with the Mini that was a lot clearer. Their inner structure is different, it ca easily tur out that the Mini has a lot more space to avoid this problem (despite bigger size the Pro is more compressed because of the keyboard) and the jack is on the other side...
I have the mini pro sk17a if that makes any difference

When your's was made? (see Sur1k's 1st post how to check)
In the meantime one forum member from the Hungarian SE-forum called SEria (http://www.seria.hu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=120572#120572 in Hungarian language) tried to check some options, I'll provide a rough translation:
he made 4 videos: normal, USB plugged (in charger also), headset plugged, headset+USB plugged:
http://www.mediafire.com/?y4k4cvwdjxns4v8
The video background noise becomes normal only when USB was plugged. He also suspects hardware failure...
Production week: 11W28... the same.
Plugging in only the USB cable, while the other end is free doesn't work on his device (if it worked, good video could be made with plugging in only the cable as a primitive workaround...)
UPD: we have a 11W30 with the noise
Can anyone confirm or deny that this issue happens with the SK17i model? I'm looking to order it next week and if that's the case I'll opt for the standard mini.
damien-tt,
well, let's read the thread name carefully. I think there's an answer to your question.

It seems likely that it's one piece of hardware inside interfering with the camera audio, which unless SE revise the internal workings in some way seems unlikely to be fixed anytime soon.
i can confirm this! Same problem here :/
edit: if the problem is the microphone, why does calling work without problems?
edit2: even WORSE: Try putting your phone on your ear "WHILE THE DISPLAY IS ON!!!!"... you can hear the voice too!!!

Ear on display you can hear the voice? What kind of voice? I'm thinking about buying this phone because it's perfect, but this problem made me curious. Is everyone with mini pro having that clicking noise?
when the display is on and your holding the phone like you're trying to call someone... you can hear the sound WHEN ITS TOTALLY SILENT around you!
Same problem, when you're making a call.
But this is only noticable if it's really totally silent around you and i think this might be related to the problem, cell phones tend to make "noices" to other speakers too... maybe this is related...
But the cam noice is more loud! Although, since I dont make any videos with the cell, it not that big of a deal for me! I'm keeping the phone,...
sxxorp,
my fault.
himuraken,
thanks for the report. And sorry for my poor reading skills
About the noise when the screen is on. Yep, I had the same problem. Turn the screen on, place the device near your ear and here it is (for better experience listen to that "hi-tech music" from the backside of the mini pro).
Still no news from the service...
Sur1k: No prob

Headphone issues after ICS update

Hi all,
Ive noticed that after the ICS update Im having some issues with the sound on my Sony tablet, specifically relating to the headphones. Sometimes when I plug the headphones in while the device is locked, it does not recognize them and will still play sound out of the tablet speaker. Plugging them out and back in while the device is unlocked solves the problem. Also, if I plug the headphones out while the device is locked it does not seem to recognize that they are unplugged and I get no sound until I plug in and back out headphones.
Neither issue happens when I plug in/out headphones while the device is unlocked.
This was not a problem before the update. Has anyone seen anything similar happen and is there a solution to this problem?
Cheers.
Same thing here. I downgrade to HC and stick with it
Too many fault with ICS atm.
Same issue here. Sometimes drives me nuts, but guess I just have to live with it. Maybe I'll get around to contacting Sony one of these days...
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using Tapatalk 2
No problem for me with my UE headphone, just talked to my friend yesterday in the States with the ICS tablet S, both could hear the conversation clearly.

Thanks, Scott =~)
Same issue here. It drove me crazy at first but I've developed a good habit of only unplugging/plugging in the headphones while the screen is on. Now I can cope
Same here
I'm in Belgium, got the headphone issue. Apart from that I'm happy with ICS so far.

Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet A Phone?

Hey guys, I was wondering if the new Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet will take calls just like a normal Xperia smartphone.
I ask this because I am considering purchasing a Z Ultra but I prefer an even bigger screen if possible, would the Z3 Compact Tablet also take calls, where I can keep it to my face and talk?
I heard it will require a Bluetooth headset in order for you to use it as a phone.
I am confused as to which one to get, any help would be appreciated!

This review says it has an earpiece and microphone. Haven't been able to find anything either way from Sony's information.

That's strange, because in the video he mentions nothing about a microphone, only that it has two speakers in the front...

Who knows...this one lists "active noise cancelation with dedicated mic".
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z3_tablet_compact-6633.php
Edit...found three more sites all with differing specs.
1. Phone calls with Bluetooth headset.
2. Microphone yes - mic input 3.5mm
3. Built in microphone - yes
Edit #2.... Attached Sony document which lists audio recording formats, and Google Now.

Interesting, thanks for that....But it seems that on the pdf document attached it does not say anything about a microphone, and if this document is from Sony Officially, then It looks like the phone will only work via Bluetooth.
I also lean towards this as Sony would have made this known as a phablet, or at least really stressed in the presentation on Spt 3 at IFA that this can work as a full out phone, because its not a small thing that just gets left out.
I also would assume it cant be used as a "full phone" because I don't think they would just ditch the Z Ultra line completely just like that.

It has video recording in camera. Do most tablets record video without audio? I read somewhere that "phablet" is considered to be 5.5 to 7 inch maybe that is why it is called compact tablet. Looked at pdf a little closer and see video chat listed for front camera and speakerphone listed for communication. Also voice I put is listed, seems like they would put an asterisk next to them if bluetooth were required.
Wow just noticed quoting each other is all whacked out, looks like it started with your second post.
The white paper for z3 phone is nearly identical to tablet except for rear camera features (microphone is not mentioned) all the other functions and features appear to be same.

Right but the question we are trying to answer is whether it has microphone and earpiece on the handset. At least one site claims in their review that a Bluetooth headset is needed for calls.

Just saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2zg7hV3XtU#t=240
I don't understand the guy but it appears that he is saying there is an ear piece there although I do not see it.
Sony says on their website that LTE and 4G are not available in all markets for this device as well.
Just have to wait and see I guess.

By using the term earpiece I only meant to describe call audio routing to top speaker the same as on Z Ultra.
I think they are referring to the bands available from your carrier may not be compatible, not that the device will be unavailable.
I too am interested in this, especially as there's a special offer on the Z3 tablet at the moment in the UK
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/10/1...-tablet-compact-for-under-300-including-case/
according to a comment on the Clove blog
http://blog.clove.co.uk/2014/10/10/...ompact-arriving-week-commencing-20th-october/
it can be used as a phone, but I would wait until they have their hands on one.
SXZ3TC can be used as a phone, but since he hasn't conversational speaker, just normal speaker, everyone others will hear your interlocutor. Also it hasn't proximity sensor, so won't lock screen. So more advisable use handsfree, especially that one with awesome noise reduction.
So, do you guys plan on using the Z3 Tablet Compact as a phone? I'm not sure what to do really, since my first plan was to use it instead of my Note 2 and iPad. But when I learned that you're unable to place calls like "normal" and have to rely on a separate bluetooth headset, I'm not so sure anymore. What if you forget the headset at home, for example?
I have a hard time believing this thing doesn't have a mic for talking on the phone otherwise how do you Skype, gchat or whatever? I have heard there is no proximity sensor which i can live with because I don't want to put this beast next to my face anyways therefore I don't care about the earpiece part for phone calls. Come on guys, do you guys really want to put this thing up to your face in public? You'll never get laid! HAHAHA. Hopefully the 3.5 jack will do the trick.

From reports in the Z3TC forums from European members that have them, it works the same as using phone in speaker mode. Not idea for having private conversations.

You guys will be really popular on public transportation I would so joke around if i knew someone using the Z3TC as their phone. I would call them up at work or in public and ask them for something awkward, like "i need my buttplug back soon" or something.

"And should you so choose, you could make normal phone calls and send text messages with this. Unless you are particularly socially comfortable a Bluetooth headset might be the best bet."
doesn't say if it has an ear-piece rather than speakerphone feature.
of course, Sony want you to buy a BRH10 and use that as the handset instead
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/accessories/remote-and-handset-brh10/
(which would be great, except that it doesn't have a headphone socket nor AptX)
