just tried this on a friend's eris, works like a charm.
if this works... I will love you forever...
THIS WORKS. I couldn't go up and my trackball used to spam left, I can now scroll up easily and haven't been scrolling left at all. I'll update if it degrades back.
wow
You sir are a god! lol
edit: Actually it's still working better but when I scroll left it goes right. Weird =p I'm trying to fix.
fixed again
hahaha...nice...
This works COMPLETELY perfectly. My trackball is white again.
Thank you!
Worked perfectly on my G1 using a math notebook . Now I can scroll up again. I thought only taking the whole phone apart would solve it!
Thank you very much!
This really works! my Eris trackball stopped working on like day two of owning the phone. I stumbled across this while reading the forum and thought I would bump it to make sure more people see it. I know a lot of us have trackball issues, might as well give it a try, worked for me.
Just my two cents. I tried this out (wasn't having trackball issues but thought id clean mine up) instantly started having troubles with my trackball. It wouldn't grip right and id have to push down hard to get it to roll. Almost like it became to smooth. Anyways after about a month it works flawless again and yes now its whiter but just thought I would share my experience. Point being "if it works, don't try to fix it"
A note for smokers that keep the phone in the same pocket as your pack of smokes...the tobacco shreds from the pack can get under the trackball...just an FYI...I used this trick to fix mine a little while ago and stopped putting the phone in that pocket...
Nah here's what you should do.
1. Go to Verizon, *****ing constantly.
2. Get new Eris.
3. Break trackball on new Eris.
Repeat steps 1-3 until they agree to give you an Incredible or other Android phone.
Problem solved!
...I should probably get right on that myself...
EDIT: Just tried original post to see if I could clean my trackball. Yeah it's white, but now its pressed in and hardly scrolls. I'm on my way to getting a new phone!! Everyone should do the same.
I'd rather have the Incredible, besides, Droid 2 hasn't been rooted yet, and Incredible has higher res camera... but I did this, some black stuff came out and it seems to scroll smoother now. I've never had the trackball issue though.

Works like a charm in my Nexus One!!!
awesome!!!
thanks...
Worked for a While
This worked on my Eris for a little while, then the trackball finally died. Did give me enough time to do the RUU, and then send it back. On Eris #2 now.
Thanks for the tip!
Finally my trackball works again!!!!

K3V
Eh, I wouldn't say so. I've had mine now since September. I flashed one of the first Team Whiskey Froyo roms in November, I believe. Since then I've tried mixing up roms a couple times a month. Recently I installed an FFC and CM7...which I hope to stick with for a while now.
I know what you mean though. You just have to keep yourself busy with it because there really aren't THAT many phones which can keep par with ours. I've had my share of iPhones before this phone, and I was amazed by the capabilities of this compared to that or the original Nexus
So.. Its NOT just me who thinks this! Whew! Boy am i glad.
Anyways i just dont get those orgasams from flashing roms anymore.
I havent flashed a rom in 1 abd a half weeks!!!
I know right I loved it
It was so exciting

I guess it's a matter of where your preferences lie. I know that when I was trying out new ROMs, it was like Xmas morning - opening presents to see what new gifts I'm getting. But at this point, I just need the phone to do what a phone does.
Once I installed, Trigger 2.6, I hung up the whole trying out new ROM thing, and just enjoyed the stability. I still love the Vibrant every time I pick it up. There are little quirks that get to me, but the screen is really really nice.
I get that once in a while, but then again I anticipated it. I know at some point, it'll just be a phone to me, and I'd use it as a tool and not a toy. The problem is that there is always something bigger and better coming out and you'll never be satisfied with what you have.
The phone market changes daily. I still love my vibrant, it does everything I need it to do and no phone matches it's screen quality. I have also hung up flashing roms, at least until CM7 finishes Ginger
I don't see a phone that competes yet for me until SGS2 comes out. No point in buying a new phone until then.

I've used both..
as far as looks, trigger wins no doubt.
Speed both have it..
but for some reason sweet honey is a bit more snappier.
It's nice to know I'm also not alone. Don't get me wrong, I still love the phone and I don't see myself getting rid of it for any other phone for at least another 6 months, but it's lost that amazingness it used to have. I remember flashing my first rom (I think it was something by Sombionix before his TW days) way back in the summer. I remember waiting for GPS and then Froyo. I remember how great it was to get that very first Froyo leak and think "Now we are cooking!" Now developers are dropping like flies. Other phones have CM7 and it's completely stable yet our CM7 just feels too much like a beta. (I know most things work, but it's just not as stable as I need)
I think this phone, and the SGS in general, had so much potential, but it was ruined by crappy Samsung software. I can only imagine where we would be now if we had stock Android out of the gate. Once again, I love the phone, I just think it fell a little short of its full potential.
I thought I could get over not having a camera flash, but when I need it that makes me sad. The poor gps doesnt help my feelings either. I will keep it untill something I really want comes out.
I dunno, I'm pretty thrilled with my phone..... I flash a new ROM every week or two (latest is Frost). I love the multifunctionality of the thing, Samsung made killer hardware and TW's software is excellent. I for one am pretty sure I'll be sticking with Samsung for at least one more phone....
Only cons here are no camera flash and no 4g.
I am fighting with myself when It comes to flashing roms. I cant seem to flash away from simply honey.
So to deal with my need to flash I end up flashing other peoples phones!
Yup man especially when I had the g1 and the hero roms started to begin developing

Completely agree. The amount of work (not to mention fast!) that has gone into this device so far is definitely worth donating for. As soon as a quick root solution is readily available, I'd be glad to donate money towards it. Makes life quicker, though the adb solution couldn't have taken more than 30 minutes to follow carefully. Really not too bad if you copy/paste the commands and read it through first.

What big developers are working on the Thunderbolt? Does Kaos have his hands on one yet? I haven't been following xda as much since he stopped development for the Eris
unrevoked tweeted that they are doing something with the thunderbolt but haven't heard anything else since release... honestly doing the adb makes you more aware of what is going on with your phone so if anything goes wrong you can fix it yourself... took me 2 hours also to root and it went smooth til I started messing with a rom that I was unable to wipe/ nandroid... but now thats fixed with the newest cwm... I'd give it a few weeks anyway to allow a stable recovery to be made and for kernels to start rolling out that optimize the device... I only rooted to get back a few of my games with data (level 63 gun bros mainly, and yes all my 3* levels on angry birds)

Nice , so the current roms that exist for thunderbolt are basically just de-bloated almost identical to stock RUU I take it
I havent had time to try any of the ROMs but pretty much all you gain with them is losing stuff like blockbuster, city ID, tunewiki and all the other bull**** that comes on them. Any one played rockband on here yet? IDK if its not optimized for this phone or what but it sucks balls, and huge balls. it isnt laggy, it just doesnt seem to be able to keep up with the touches when you are playing on hard and the notes are coming by fast.

I was rooted and had CM7 installed, but SBF'ed back to 2.3.4 this weekend because of the WIFI and GPS issues. Coincidentally the phone did work better with CM7, but I needed my GPS and WIFI and couldn't stick with it. SBF'ed back to stock 2.3.4 and same issues as before (bad phone lag, multiple daily reboots, etc.) Called Verizon and they are sending me a replacement Droid X2... (blah, nut if it works correctly, I will be fine with it till later this year)
So, I am just wondering if I am going to have any issues with my return. Is there any way they can tell we were rooted? She said if they find anything or if there was damage (which there isnt, been in otterbox case since day 1) that it would cost me $299.00... Theres no way I want to pay that for another Droid X2, and was just worrying myself. Any other rooted useres who SBF have any issues with returns to Verizon?

The ultimate joke would be if OP got a new DX2 with the updated 2.3.4 thats should be out in a bit and if it got rid of rooting or bricked SBF's.
Thats why you guys gotta complain to them so you can get an early upgrade to something better. Like the Rezound or S3 like I'm currently waiting for.

Honestly, I am not worried about it. Funny thing was I called about my phone and they offered an early upgrade to my wife... who also got her phone the same time as me and wasn't due till November. Not quite sure why. They said I could use her upgrade.. yada yada... but I am waiting right now. Want to see what the next iphone is gonna be and make my decisions then. I have been thru 5 or 6 phones now and three different models and I am willing to check out an iphone. That is, if it is 4G. Not wanting to be stuck with 3G for another 2 years...
But I am not worried about rooting this new phone. Gonna leave it on stock and let it screw up and I am sure they will offer me something else...

I have gone through 9 replacements trying to get the right phone over the last couple of months and am getting tired of it, what's everyone's opinion about switching to the nexus? I have to admit CM9* and MIUI are a big plus.
i just got a nexus and i love it, battery life seems alot better too. i will say the design of the rezound is better though.
I traded my nexus for my rezound a while ago and never looked back.
love this phone.
the nex is nice, but sense is what I like, I also found the overall build to be better on the rezound, (usually is with HTC..)
I came from a nexus for 2 reasons... 1) The radios are terrible on the Nexus. In my house, my wife has a Thunderbolt and I had the Nexus. Side by side, she would have 3 or 4 bars of 4G, me on the Nexus, like 2 bars of 3G or 1x. also the build quality is much superior to the Nexus. 2, I Luke the challenge of rooting lol. I had a Rezound before but I never rooted it. Traded for the GNex when it came out. I feel its an overall better experience with my rezound. If Ur looking to easily root and have a plethora of dev support, get the Nexus. If u like better radios and built quality, stick with the Rezound.

i traded my gnex for a dev rezound(and then an s-off method popped up )
ive actually got 2 of them.since i could s-off my first one, i keep the dev phone put up for emergencies.
ive found the rezound to be of the same quality as all other htc phones ive had. i drive for a living, and my phone rides around all day with me,sometimes getting to 120+ degrees if i leave it on the seat in the sun. ive flashed it,s offed it twice, flashed the crap out of it some more, dropped it,and in general abused the crap out of it.
i loved stock ICS and wanted to love the gnex since it it googles proprietary phone, but to me it felt cheap and plasticy.

I have NEVER sent a phone back due to pink buttons, no matter how much I dislike them. The first four were when I first got the phone, since I came from a droid charge and was comped this I got a refurb. First one had dead pixels, second one had the hissing audio jack, third one had a giant scratch on the screen, fourth one had a blown speaker, the fifth one was just right. Fast forward five months my "just right" phone would go through an extended and a stock battery in 12 hours, completely stock, never unlocked. I was annoyed and got a replacement. The first replacement was fine for a week and then went nuclear on my battery (literally got so hot that the stock battery bloated (yes I know that means the battery also went bad) It almost did the same thing to my extended as well. Fast-forward to yet another phone and this time battery as well, everything seems fine except for the giant scratch on the screen, I swear ti was in the same spot as the one from five months before. Then the next phone, got it, s-off'd it, working perfectly for two days except for pink buttons but **** it, and then I realized I've never made a call with it. Called my father and sure enough the damn speaker is broken, yes I tried on different ROMS and completely stock just to make sure, I know what a blown speaker sounds like. Now I'm on the ninth phone which seems okay for now but I'm still endlessly frustrated with the damn things. Plus I love MIUI. I just wish the build quality was better on the gnexus and I hate samsung's placement of ****ing buttons. It's like they expect you to have the hands of a 4 year old and be able to hit the awkward side button while it's in your hand.

I think everyone who leaves this phone just to get AOSP is crazy... Eventually it will come. In the meantime, there are lots of great roms to try out in the meantime. If you have other problems, I completely understand. But cmon.... Just for a rom?

I mean it's all about opinion. I could see me leaving a Samsung phone if I wanted sense more or aosp if it wasn't available.
But it sounds like you should give the Gnex a go OP. What's the worst that could happen? You just come back.

Yeah that was my thought, they would probably let me come back if I hate it.

i agree completely. im not a sense fan either, but IMO this is still good harware and worth the wait. like you said, lots of great roms in the mean time. scotts dev edition is an awome "best of both worlds" rom with the ICS theme,no sense launcher or widgets, yet the "prettiness" of the stock menu and pulldown. im enjoying it alot.
it helps that i can run a pretty functional cm9 on my sensation while i wait

I just wish the build quality was better on the gnexus and I hate samsung's placement of ****ing buttons. It's like they expect you to have the hands of a 4 year old and be able to hit the awkward side button while it's in your hand.

Completely agree, their bootloader is WAY less fun. At least, if it's anything like the fascinate and the charge it consists of a down arrow with a yellow android that looks pretty while you use odin to flash everything since their bootloader is half-assed.
I also would like to say that I do love our devs, and this is not meant and is not me being frustrated with them, simply my luck with regards to getting a functioning device which has lead to a lot of frustration. Regardless of if I switch I still have another rezound that I have access to and can use whenever so I will still be active in this community... I am simply asking the opinions of people who have or have had both devices (IE Scotty). Hell I would take a shot at deving if I had the time, I have experience with linux and coding in Java and Lua. Anyway I do understand the frustration when people post things like the "HAHA I SOLD MY REZOUND *****ES" thread (my translation of the title) where they seem to be bragging/flaming rather than actually trying to consult the community.
I would like to say I don't particularly appreciate the assumptions that my devices could not have possibly needed to be replaced that many times legitimately. I just have had terrible luck with the replacements themselves, almost all have arrived defective if you read my explanation above. I have never bricked a phone and I'm not particularly fond of some of the stories where people go "ops I bricked it, lawls, hey Verizon my phone is dead send me a new one because I ****ed the damn thing up and enjoy committing fraud."

its a little better than that. you can use fastboot to do a few things, but it was still pretty devoid of any user interface, unlike hboot. radios were flashed in recovery. you unlock it pretty much just like the rezound, with exception that you dont need a token just fastboot oem unlock anhd voila you have access to everything.
I installed CM10 on my Droid X2 and I just couldn't get past the screen sensitivity -- everything was jumpy to the point where the phone wasn't usable. Is this something others have noticed, too? Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity?

What do you mean it was jumpy? Are you saying it is too sensitive? I dont know of any way to adjust it but I have no problems with it.

Yeah, way too sensitive. Damn, maybe it's just my Droid X2. I'd scroll up an down and it was just super sensitive, moving up and down at the slightest touch.

Also -- the screen seemed to flicker way more. I think some of it was intentional (the screen dimming and brightening). As much as I liked the look, I went back to CM7.
I haven't noticed any screen flicker, or too sensitive touch
It has seemed less sensitive, to me
You are not the only one. Had same thing on my DX2. It happened 4-5 times.
I just kept trying to get "power off / reboot" screen and reboot. After reboot everything was good.
Also had faster battery drain, purchased a 3600mAh and it would almost last 10 hours on CM10.
Two days ago went back to CM7, battery will last 14-16 hours with same usage.
Going to wait for next CM10 release to try again.

You guys need to understand that this ROM will never be perfect. Even the next update will have issues.
Understand, also understand ANY ROM can have issues, including Vz ROMs.
It's about what works for each person, in this case I am waiting for the next release, please don't get defensive because we had issues. They happened, no big deal, we have made decisions to move back to CM7.
I happen to think DZK has done a great job with CM10 and I will be moving back.

Oh I'm not being defensive. Sorry to come off that way. I just see that you guys are newcomers to the forums. A lot of newcomers have been posting about issues not understanding that our Droid X2 is not like other phones that get custom ROMs. Our CM10 is not really complete and most likely never will be because motorola hates us and doesnt want to unlock our bootloaders. If you guys are new to the DX2, I didnt want you expecting a full featured bugless ROM like, lets say the Galaxy Nexus would get. Even though its CM10, we are running it on a Gingerbread Kernel which will always cause issues. That, along with not being able to change or update the drivers doesnt help. Thats why I said even the next update will most likely have the same issues. Most of us just chose to deal with them.

I wasn't aware of the Motorola situation when I purchased the DX2, but quickly found out. I came from the Samsung world (Fascinate) as my last device and it seemed custom ROM's were very easy. With the DX2 it has been anything but easy. But for now really happy with the device overall and the CM10 ROM will make it great. The primary reason for my move back to CM7 was a call issue that seems to be well documented. If it isn't corrected with the new version of CM10 I will make adjustments and stick with it. Also the DX2 community here on XDA is great.
I haven't had the any call issues, but I make/receive very few calls
mostly texts and emails

Hey there -- just wanted to also say that I hope I wasn't coming off as a complainer (which probably meant I was!). I'm totally and absolutely grateful for all of dragonkiller's work on porting CM. I HATED my Droid X2 with BLUR -- and it has been a great joy to use since I switched to CM7.2.
I do wonder, though, that Jellybean requires a more powerful processor? CM10, outside of the sensitivity issue, felt slower in every way. I just may keep CM7.2 on this phone forever -- it's just a great ROM.
If JB felt slower to you then something is wrong. Did you install it from a clean 2.3.4 SBF?

Actually upgraded from CM7 to CM10 first time. Since moving back to CM7, I did an SBF with a clean install of CM10 and things are MUCH BETTER. Not going back at this point. This is only day two, but things are good. I did figure out that when I installed an app that CM10 did not like the screen started acting strange, but getting rid of the app and rebooting solved the issue.
I did end up with one strange problem, still working on it. I used Titanium to restore most of my apps, but wanted to do a clean install on Flash Player. So went in found the apk from my file mgr, selected "install", went to what I call the Android Install screen with two buttons at the bottom (Cancel & Install), tried to select the Install, nothing happened. I do have "Unknown Sources" checked in Security. I have tried other apk's just to test and none seem to work. Tried to move the apk's to the SD0 card, and that had no effect either. The strange thing, I had Flash Player working before going back to CM7.
