Had to hand back my XDA today - company went bust & I got laid off
Sure am going to miss it
Had it running as a SatNav, used it for MSN Messenger, Browsing, VPN & r/c of servers etc via VNC, had a bespoke 2-way data package on it + all the usual phone stuff. My T39/T68 are just not going to replace it
So if anyone has a spare they don't want? Or looking to u/grade?
Give me a call
Or I might just have to find some cash to get an XDA II :?
It is a common practice here in the US (way too common lately ) to give employees the first shot at buying liquidated equipment. The creditors foreclosing on your business will only be able to liquidate your company's technology items for a tiny fraction of their cost. Aside from marketable items like higher-end unix servers and cisco gear, most companies let employees buy their own cellular/handheld/laptop/desktop gear at considerable discounts. I'd ask if I were you, will usually be cheaper than buying a used one on the open market, and you know exactly what you're geting.
Puff, Mad max is right.
By the way u mentioned used the VNC RC. I've been using VNC for months now to remote control out server and some workstations thru my Desktop, but I was not able to used it in my XDA, either GPRS or dial-up.
I hope you could help me
Thanks
Joey

Well I bought the last touchpad in my area (after ordering from BB online and getting a backordered email) and it is the demo model which will not let me set up a webos account or anything. I read over in the pre forums about it and posted there as well but was hoping maybe someone here might know a way around this?
I am calling HP tomorrow because I read that the serial numbers are locked to a demo unit in case of theft and they can remove the lock so you can use it normally (crossing fingers) but I really do not know till they open tomorrow. I called the WebOS number included in the box and they said to exchange it for another one (I laughed) and then they said to just return it. I really want to have one of these things to play with so any help is really appreciated.
Waiting till the touchandroid thing comes out might not help since I have to return it within 14 days I believe for them to give me my money back. I would have to have a perfectly working tablet to keep it rather than spending $150 on a demo unit that wont work.
Hoping for help

Or, buy one from here (16GB for $99 with $5 shipping) and when you get a tracking number, return the one you have for a refund.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056UOUC8
Thanx for the link but on my end they are all showing as $415.53 and up - even on the right hand side of the page where amazon keeps other sellers. Lowest priced one says $234.98.
I am still hoping HP will fix this.

Yeah, sorry man. the price was $100, but that company appears to have sold out. The name has changed which is weird that Amazon would have the same link for a different company.

Very nice! Now if we could get to register webos accounts, we wouldnt need HP anymore
I may do this later today after seeing if HP will fix the demo units or not. Still might keep it, I don't know yet.
The activation bypass works to an extent. You can get past the webos login, and enable developer privs to add homebrewed apps thru preware, but it seems very unlikely that you can sideload the apps only available through the login app store. At least you can web browse and watch movies and such on it. If anyone knows how to get non homebrewed apps on it, i would like to know. For now, i think its worth the value, even for the demo unit, to wait for android port.

Just spoke with someone at the 1-866-477-3824 number and she told me I am basically out of luck. She is transferring me to tech support now to see if they know of a way to do it but it is looking like HP is gonna be pricks and not release the serials. She told me the serial numbers for demo units are set to not allow the webos account creation and access so if they wanted to, they could release them it seems.
Ok tech support just hung up on me - gotta love it.
WebOS account
OK well I was doing some thinking and can think of 2 possible ways to fix the app problem. 1 is impostah and changing everything we can to clone a non demo touchpad. This will hopefully fool them into allowing us to create or log into an account. If this doesn't work my second idea is a better app repository to put apps onto it. Since HP is discontinuing it's work on the webOS we will likely have a need for the repository eventually.
I know there is the homebrew repository but one that also has apps from the official store would be awesome. An all in one app store that is completely free and open. Would be a first to some degree on the mobile platform. I would set this up but I can't access the app store so wouldn't be able to contact Devs and such about putting their apps onto it.
This is basically PreWare. Except it wouldn't fly because of all the warez. PreWare is fine for now. Put your effort into that since it is already going strong.
preware
Preware just doesn't have very many (useful) apps available.

I have found a way to Create a WEBOS account after going into Developer mode. Now i am using WEBOSDoctor to reinstall WebOS 3.0.2 and will try logining in with the account I Just creadted. I can log into the WEBOS site online through HP's website which it didnt allow me to do earlier. Will keep everyone posted!
IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took everyone's work so far and went a step further so I am taking as much credit as everyone else who managed to crack this! I first flashed it using WEBOSDoctor to 3.0.2. Then i used the devicetool.jar to put it into Developer mode. Then I used Preware to install Impostah. I then used Impostah to create a WEBOS account. Reflashed it to 3.0.2 using WEBOSDoctor and logged in with the WEBOS account I had just created! Then once up I launched the HP APP STORE and it came up with an error. I closed it out waited a few more minutes and the loaded it again and quickly tapped on the Categories tab at the bottom. Clicked on Games and Installed Angry Birds. WE HAVE ALL CRACKED THIS AND NO LONGER NEED TO FIGHT WITH HP OR RETURN OUR UNITS TO THE STORES! GREAT JOB EVERYONE INVOLVED!

Confirmed this worked!!!, but in a different manner. I didn't use Impostah to accomplish the fix.
1) Went to https://developer.palm.com/
2) Signed up for Developers Account (disregard paypal memo)
3) Fill out info (first name, last name, email), click continue.
4) Check your e-mail, and validate your WEBOS developers account.
5) From registration page, fill out e-mail address, create a pw, and choose/create a security question; Continue.
6) Fill out Contact Information; Continue.
7) Once you reach Tax Info page, just close your page (you might be able to earlier than this, but I went that far and it worked).
Your account is "kinda" created.
8) Turn on HP Touchpad (you might have to follow Mattatha's instructions above), and get to WEBOS login screen. Choose Create Profile, and type in the same Name, E-mail, password, security question as you created earlier.
Note* I tried clicking Sign In on my HP Touchpad after doing steps 1-7, but it still didn't seem to work, but step #8 got me in, and able to use the app store.
Verify your login my going to Device Info.
Enjoy your HP Touchpad Demo with full capabilities!
Called the store i got it from and they told me if I try this they will not take it back. They said if HP won't help, I can get a refund unless I try to hack around the demo stuff.
If I try this and it does not work for me, is there a way to put the demo software back on and remove everything else?

Also Knightrid what store did you buy it from cause that is BS!!!

RadioShark - they said if it is not in the same condition they do not have to take it as a return.
I may give this a shot, just wish I knew if the one I ordered from BB was gonna ship (won't let me cancel anymore but still says "Order Status: 1 item(s) - Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in null - null days."), if so, I would return this in a heartbeat.
If I do try it then the wife would have to let me keep both of them if the BB one ships too LOL If she doesn't kill me, then she would get to keep both
Trying to figure out how to do the preware and impostah thing right now - if I figure it out, I think I will try that way to see how it goes. I am afraid the developer accounts may get cancelled after a certain period of time without having the paypal and tax info in them (I don't know if this will happen, I am just thinking it may).
You guys/gals/people/aliens are awesome for figuring this stuff out! Came here for my Droid Eris and have Cyanogenmod on it now Awesome site!

Tell them at Radio Shack they are full of ****! I am a store manager for them and there is a specific memo that went out company wide yesterday to allow returns of ALL demo's sold. It said NOTHING about condition so they CAN NOT tell you no.
Anyway to get it to work on the Htc amaze? Thanks in advance!

It should work fine, the amaze just isn't on the list of devices they will allow to download it from the market.. the only way to get it is by illegitimate means(or read the last paragraph).
Contacting the developer is totally pointless, this is the worst company to deal with in any way.. I spent $15 in game and never got what I paid for, months went by, multiple times they contacted me.. but never got the refund no matter what I did. I eventually gave up since I put in more work than it was worth for the $
I would recommend buying it with another compatible device(if you have one), copying the apk to the amaze(I hope I don't get in trouble, it isn't pirating if you paid), and it should work fine. I may have had to edit my build.prop, I can't remember. That is how I was playing it on my nook color(from my vibrant). But don't spend a dime in game unless you just don't want the money. Really, I would say avoid the game altogether, it is cool for a minute, but FAR from a product worth paying monthly for.
Downloaded but not working
I changed my build prop and it appeared on the market. Bought, installed completly, logged in created character, selected server, but then it tells me their's an update. Takes me to market and no update for the game. Weird cause theirs no compatibility issues, but ive been talking to Customer Service and they've been helping. Till they fix dont try the hack apk(does the same) or download it from market, hoping they officially release for our phone...ridiculous they dont.
Got it working!

Thread closed since there is a new walkthrough on how to get it working. Please visit the above link.
I just spoke with Viewsonic's third party company for tech support for the gTablet. I noticed the gMarket icon gave me an error. I had not used the tablet in some time.
He informed me that Handango is now supporting Android 2.3 where the gTab is 2.2. The apps will not work.
I guess now I have a large paperweight. What a waste of money.
If you're planning on throwing it out, I would be happy to take it off your hands.
Fact is, any alternative ROM can work wonders on this device. I have never used the stock ROM since it's just so bad.

Man, serious "coknbalz" here as they say in my country. I would ask Handango, since they've been jerking us around so rigorously while smiling all the way, if they'd be willing to handle our upgrades gently and gingerly as we told them what we yearned for. And then here at XDA we have 4.0 and 4.1 ROMs circulating? They should be taking it all over their face with glee and happily rubbing in all the extra white-sheet revenue with both their hands as we come down from the exhilaration of newfound support!
I can't imagine an app market wanting to be used so much and so often in this way as Handango tells other device makers they would. They of all app markets seem ready to spread far and wide, caressing the bleeding edge to fever pitch when the time is right for a loud and forthright announcement, for just about any device out there. Why won't they put out for the G-Tablet since they will for just about anything else? Is it something we as a community did?

Along these same lines, my GTab running TNT Lite 4.25 still shows the Market, although not all apps any more, and it won't update what I have.
Can I get it to run the new Play Store (or whatever Google calls it)?
Ok so i have an app on the windows phone and store that im in the process of converting to android (c# to java has not been too painful yet but i havent started on the ui ....i think that may be were the pain will be!)
my app was not a huge success but then it was aimed at a niche market, and in the 2 months since i published it has only had 230 downloads and not a single donation. so im thinking of adding adverts this time (hate to do that but a lot of time goes into the apps) or making it paid (hmmmmm shudder)
So i was looking at the requirements for google play and saw they want $25 to class me as a developer, i cant see me making $25 on the app and dont want to just throw money away ...hell im a min wage working doing this as a hobby i dont have this money thing they want lol
but then i remembered with android unlike windows phones i have options ! so what app stores do you guys recommend ?
the windows version of the app:
I realise of course choice of market site will be subjective but want to avoid bad ones that may steal my app and sell it on or have a bad reputation etc
