Pocket PC Applications and Memory

:?: Hello All; I am about to get and O2 XDA in a few days; I have read manuals and web sites on the memory management, I understand the Main programme sits in ROM and programs in RAM, however want to know if applications run in Ram only, or if you can get them to run in the additional storage card. (i.e. SD/MMC)
In other words, are the expansion cards for backups and document/file storage, or is it extra RAM to install & run applications.
Thanks for your help
Jed
Hello Jed.
Most of the programs do also work from the SD/MM-Card.
You can use the expansion for backup, data storage and "program place".
Regards
Stefan
No.. sorry. Programs can be stored on the SD card, however, they cannot run on them. Clear?
What I mean is, that you can install you apps onto an SD card, but when you run them they are loaded in to the built in 'managed' RAM. Unfortunately this is finite, and also is the only place that contacts, tasks, and appointments can be stored.
So, to those who have a 32Mb XDA, don't let O2 fool you by telling you it is easy to upgrade your XDA to 64Mb with a SD card - it's not quite the same.
There are other upgrade options available.

Can I USE MY SD CARD TO RUN APPLICATIONS

Hi XDA Pro's,
I have O2 XDA with 32 MB of Ram and Rom installed, with PPC 2003 2nd edition installed. the problem I am facing is that i cannot run applications that are big, as everytime i run them i have to go to setting and stop all unwanted running applications, to avoid memory shortage.
Is there a way i can use my SD card's free memory to run big applications..... any answers
Challu
it asks you if you want to install the program in the default location when you install programs using activesync
the sd card is not the default location
so dont pick default
There is no possibilty to use sd card memory for running programs.
The programs uses all the memory from your device.
You could only install these files on you SD-card like Rudegar said.
This keeps more memory free of aour device, so that more memory could be used for the working programs....
Stefan
SD card memory is not virtual memory for running programs, it is storage only, if a program is executed from sd card it still takes up ram on your phone for the code.

Is my memory config correct?

I have just updated my Himalaya to WM5. With wm2k5_1.60c.64wwe.
Here the state of my memory.
Does something seem to you abnormal?
Is my system optimised?
Is it possible to merge Storage memory with Storage? (Storage is my ramdisk)

[Q] Clean MicroSD (Memory Card)

Does anyone know how to clean a memory card of old app data? I have tried several different apps and tools over the year and most of them I have uninstalled, but I have discovered that some of the apps left data and/or folders behind on the memory card. Since I have a 4gb class 2 memory card and I have recently ordered a 16gb class 4 memory card, I am thinking of removing all of the "junk" that were left behind by some apps. However, I don't know how to identify all of the old junk to remove them before transferring the remaining good data to the new memory card.
On a side note: I am using xRecovery to backup my apps and data, so far it seems sufficient for the job, but I have read that Titanium backup might be better. Is that true?
Most of the app data should be store in the... data folder on the card.
Directories are named after apk file names. You can paste those into search field of the android market either on the phone or web version at https://market.android.com. See if you have those apps still installed and want their data.
Titanium gives you much more control over backup and recovery than Xrecovery backup feature. This is handy if you change ROMs. Recovering data of all apps to a different ROM is not considered safe. It could affect overall phone stability.

[Q] Low space

My phone is running on low space, I mean, I deleted a lot of files and apps and I have just 25MB internal memory remaining.
What files can I delete to restore useless occupied storage?
P.S. My phone is rooted
