do not be an idiot like me and use the partition sd card option in rom manager. It will mess up the phone's master boot record and you will have to rewrite the original one in order for voodoo kernels or anything that modifies the boot record to work properly.
once again don't be an idiot like me! Thank you
I don't know what to say to this... I think this is why you aren't getting any replies. Lol.
good thing this was put in development. Hey dev's, did this help you in creating your newest rom/kernel?

So this is what happened to me. Could someone be so kind as to tell me how to rewrite the master boot record so I can get my phone back? Please and thank you! And please!

If you do this to your sd card, will the kernel not rewrite the MBR when you reboot? Like the first time you flash a Voodoo kernel.

Uhm... in light of your signature, you do realize this is the Verizon Samsung Fascinate forum, right? Not the Sprint HTC Hero forum.
Because this post does not apply to HTC phones. Or Motorola phones. Or LG phones. Or any phone that isn't a Samsung Galaxy S.
Check below:

That site was allowing to browse directories a couple of days ago. I guess owner is here, on forum.
I wanted to have a dual boot for 2of my ROMS... one wud be Cm7 and other CM9... so is there any bootstrap or Safestrap available for Atric 4g? I searched on XDA as well as Googled through many pages but was left unanswered
Any help Appreciated
I think this particular soc won't allow for it without making a boot rom mounting system

I have no clue wats Boot Rom Mounting system... Any hellp details plzzz
What he means is this: It probably isn't possible.
I believe it is possible, and a couple of people have attempted half heartedly to do it, but unless someone who has the knowledge to do this right is to pick this up and run with it, it won't happen. I doubt you would see this on the Atrix now in any event, as there are not enought devs to go around, and the devs we have are working on ROM's and kernels.
Sorry, i couldnt find anything either, but It would be pretty awesome to have DualBoot on my Atrix.

It would be cool
Well tbere's always the next device mayb it will be able to
There is a post for making boot manager work on the ATRIX I am currently using it but you have to install zip in cwm to boot rom1 and recover boot thro advanced restore for your main ROM
Hit thanks if this was helpful

Well, what about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508017
It's in the Xperia's development forum, yeah, but the Atrix 4G is definitely a GSM phone, so I don't see why this kernel wouldn't work. Of course, I don't know anything about the technical stuff behind it--could we get a second opinion on this?
I really want to be able to have the Neutrino ROM on my phone along with a Blur-based ROM so I can use my Webtop.

Well, that's a downer. Thanks, man.
I don't know if it can help,
but Multi-Boot ROMS worked on Motorola Defy,
I guess it's possible for atrix too, perhaps some dev take a good look here at this LINK

The only problem with that is that the Defy has completely different hardware.
What the Devs say about this? Do it have a chance to be better than Android?
"This year’s CTIA Wireless conference in New Orleans is surprisingly short on major new smartphones. But at last night’s MobileFocus press event, I happened across a fascinating, one-of-a-kind handset which I hadn’t seen in person yet: Mozilla’s alpha version of a phone running Boot to Gecko, its project to turn the web technologies behind Firefox into a stand-alone mobile operating system."

Because its not for our device, it may or may not work with broken calls/keys but I haven't tested it myself.

Out of curiosity, why would anyone decide to flash it ever? It's not like play store will be accessible. It's a feeble yet very stupid attempt by Mozilla...

Flasholics?
Honestly I don't have any details about that OS.
Thats a pre Alpha...
For sure another "player" to this market will be a good thing. More updates, more releases, more everything.
Funny thing on that picture is that it is an International sg2 but there is an AT&T logo there. Check the pic.
That's most likely the carrier its being used with, which is perfectly normal considering the tech site is probably located in the US.
I think its a neat different Idea... Do I think it will go anywhere like android and ios? Not really (would be cool if it did).
I would flash it, but only when its ready for our phone. I would love to at least try it. Who knows it could be the next best thing since the cheese wheel!
I personally would not mind flashing if LiLChris were to ever port it

There is a flashable zip somewhere in the original thread in the i9100 forums. I'm using it, I just don't get to use it because I have to build something which I can't do...
i777 with B2G
Boot2Gecko uses a different kernel from Android, still Linux, but with many different things compiled into it. If you go to the page with the i9100 image, you'll see a .tar.md5 image, which is really just a TAR image with some extra. You can untar it and get out the boot.img, which is the kernel. You can then use ODIN to flash the image, and if it is inoperable you can use Heimdall to flash the boot.img directly as the kernel. I stopped quickly with this because my i777 only partially worked with no radio on the last try, and it became unusable quickly. It was also getting extremely hot near the top of the unit, so I went and flashed back the AOKP image I had been using previously.
My attempts to build from scratch have been unpleasant to say the least, and it seems the Nexus is on the list of hardware along with the i9100, but the i777 and i9100g and others are not on the roadmap yet.
For those who want to know what this is, it's a Linux kernel that boots into a special version of Firefox, and then uses web documents and web standards to do everything. All of the OS is coded in HTML5/JS/CSS and has new JS implemented for controlling and using the phone's hardware. The "apps" are websites that are accessed remotely and then cached so that they do not have to be updated until the remote version changes, so the OS can upgrade extremely rapidly.
I'm looking forward to seeing this remove some of the mess made by the manufacturers and providers, and to see some much needed user control brought back into the system.
Big question since i'm brazillian, WHY BRAZIL?

I just wonder if we can have dual boot like two ROMs selectable at the time of boot? Or, at least two user accounts selectable right after boot having different settings and data?
My family members like my streak so much so that they borrow my streak frequently for a day or two. I don't want to say no but at the same time don't even want them to have a peek into my settings and data.
Yes, I do use various data locking programs but I just wanna have two identities just like we have in windows PC.

Well I read here that it's possible with an application called Bootmanager. Most just afraid to try that out before getting a good ahead from senior developers like n0p, theManii etc. Link to the lifehacker article http://m.lifehacker.com/5826050/how-to-dual-boot-multiple-roms-on-your-android-phone
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk 2
Well if you're so die hard to try it go ahead and brick or boot loop your phone. If you took a few more minutes to do the research you'd find out dual booting is mainly kernel specific and also specific to devices with open source drivers

The possibility of bricking crossed my mind also and due to my limited knowledge of correlating so many ifs and buts, I preferred to ask you more knowledgeable ones. Thanks for saving me from bricking my phone.
BTW, isn't that a possible feature which can be incorporated in DSC phoenix kernel?

Spreading some knowledge would be much appreciated. There were times when even GB and CWM6 were not supported. Now we have 70% working ICS and 95% working CWM6, and FYKI none are officially supported.

and developer choose not to support streak... try emailing them and see what they reply...
I do understand why developers refrain from supporting streak, the only reason is that Dell itself has abandoned its masterpiece without much user feedback. We had and still have hopes with a handful of selfless developers here on xda without whom we all would had a brick thrown somewhere in drawers.
I still prefer streak over galaxy note due to the exact maximum size where u can access every corner with your thumbs.

There is a really hacky way to do it on pretty much all phones: take over the recovery.img and use that to boot.
But it's really ugly in that you must boot as if you were entering the recovery.
I believe that converting a rom and kernal to do that isnt that difficult, but there's just as many downsides as there are upsides, and the kernal+rom must be specifically designed to do so.
You cant simply flash a 2nd rom like that and expect it to work.
There was another device not too long ago that got 'dual-boot' that way on the xda news feed.
The right way would be like using MAGLDR for the HD2 where it takes over the boot process entirely (i think) and lets you choose, but I think the roms need to be written to boot from whereever (ie NAND/SD).
Hey everyone.
I've been reading that siyah kernel will soon allow dual booting. I'm still learning android stuff so I don't know what this means exactly.
Dual booting means we could install another OS on the SGS3? If that's so, could it be possible to install WP8?
Crazy question, I know.
Thanks.

+ WP8 wouldn't work without locked bootloader since MS requires it.
The only alternative could be Mozilla's Boot to Gecko since it's also based on Linux, but at it's current state, it's not really usable (and by the time it's mature enough, you have most likely already moved to SGS4 or SGS5 )
Forget about windows phones. This question has been asked million times the answer is big no....

Decent chance we will get a WebOS port which will be interesting, dual booting will certainly come in handy then.
