Hey everyone.
I've been reading that siyah kernel will soon allow dual booting. I'm still learning android stuff so I don't know what this means exactly.
Dual booting means we could install another OS on the SGS3? If that's so, could it be possible to install WP8?
Crazy question, I know.
Thanks.

+ WP8 wouldn't work without locked bootloader since MS requires it.
The only alternative could be Mozilla's Boot to Gecko since it's also based on Linux, but at it's current state, it's not really usable (and by the time it's mature enough, you have most likely already moved to SGS4 or SGS5 )
Forget about windows phones. This question has been asked million times the answer is big no....

TIZEN!!!
Decent chance we will get a WebOS port which will be interesting, dual booting will certainly come in handy then.

can we have something like a Android app player/preware app through which we can run android apps on Touch pad?
similar to the one BlackBerry uses now?
thanks
Why would you want to do that when you can just dual boot and install straight cm7

They fixed that a long time ago.
There is such an effort called palmdroid, but the development sort of stopped.

I'm not new to android but I am new to developing. I have no experience at all. I have been reading different websites on a good way to start and each are very different. My goal is to be able to develop aosp roms. Apps is my secondary goal. I want to be able to develop/code from the source. Kitchens are not my preference. I'm hoping on a long shot for a Rom developer to teach me the ropes. From beginning to end sort of thing. We are a community here, so I'm hoping we can pass on knowledge to others who are willing (like me). Anybody willing to take me under their wings?

I know little to nothing about compiling AOSP, but I do know you need Linux (Ubuntu) and the Android source code. However, rather than branching out yet again, why don't you consider contributing to the cyanogen mod project instead? It's already rather refined but always accepts creative new ideas.
If you need help with app development, give me a pm. I do some myself at www.gundersoft.com

Linux is free, you can either set up a VM or dual boot w/ windows. Linux is the key that will open the door for ya.

Is it possible to run the actual Windows phone 8 OS on my note?
I've been thinking of trading this for a Windows phone since I've been running this for a while now.. but I remember hearing android users running the actual os on their device, which would be even better if that means being able to go back to android. Is this possible or am I dreaming?

not quite sure but now im interested im going to check the windows forum and see if there is anything about it there
Go find your self a used HD2 if you want to do all of that. It's not going to happen on this phone.

windows phone gets very boring very quick.
I owned one before, after about a week you'd regret it.
My last phone was a focus and I liked it very much. Can get boring, I agree... but that's why I'm interested to do it in here so I can go back to Jb when/if I want to.
I saw the one tutorial for basically losing the phone with apps to fully recreate win 8, but I'm sure I'll just be left with a buggy base android

The processor in the note isn't compatible with windows OS. Supposedly Microsoft will publish a version that will work with this processor.
Run launcher 8 that's the closest you will get. Quite nice. Using it now.

That is a whole nother ballgame, ubuntu touch is a pain. Lol
I've given up on working on it for now, as i really need my phone to be working 110% all the time, so im back to stock....with a handful of modifications ofc.
Using th3bills cm10.1 i was trying to just port it over without having to.build like they say in the porting guide, and no luck outside of a loop. User error really. Its best left to the trusted devs, etc round here.
Our phones can handle it great, and then some, BUT, as with anything over the stock gb, without drivers things dont work as they should. Ubuntu touch is really frikkin awesome to look st, but even if someone ports it, it is only a preview an 90% of the features wont work or are just placeholders. Id let it sit a while, not worth a damn atm. But it does give you a taste of the ui. Which, is tough getting used to as it is very gesture oriented as apposed to click here scroll here that we do on android.

Thanks for share sir .. i though anyone haven't try it yet .. i follow the ubuntu touch forum every day hope that some of our great dev will port it. But i still wait it until happen.. i hope

If I can find some free time in my super-busy college schedule, I'd like to try my hand at porting it for us. Not just because it would be awesome to have it, but because I'd like to eventually do some app development for it (and it looks like a badass OS for a phone).
Can I put Ubuntu on my Photon even with 2.3.5?
I think you have to unlock the bootloader first.

Unfortunately not. Ubuntu requires it to be unlocked. (ubuntu ATM is highly reliant on cm10 still, so if you can't run cm10,which 2.3.5 can't)
Your stuck between a rock and a hard place

What is the point? We need a decent kernel that can actually support our phone. Atrix 4G succeeded, and all development has halted here. This phone seems pretty much done. Very disappointing.
So my question is,what if i´m flashing Developer Edition from this site??? http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_spyder/list.php
you could try that actually!
but the difference between normal and developer edition is the unlocked bootloader.
If the hardwares and the board are the same we can flash it right?!

My thought was,if i´m flashing this, flashes it the unlocked bootloader with it???Dunno, downloading now and i´ll have a look, don´t want to brick it
So, any news on this? It sounds interesting!
I am interested in maybe trying this. If the possibility is of no risk or a minimum risk.

There're risks of hardbricking but if you're covered with warranty
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
I don't have a warranty either. And I was thinking of running stock rom with boot loader in a virtual environment to test and see if the developer version of the bootloader will successfully run in the virtual environment. Do you think that will work?
Dunno, never heard about that.....

I have no idea about how you could achieve it but it sounds logical and harmless since everything will be done virtually.
Well their is a thing called (AndroVM) which is open source. And is able to boot certain android OS. However bad news is that it is still in development and good news is that it seems official.AndroVM seems to be a promising step to finally being able to test crap with out risk . Maybe some devs from xda could try to improve and implement this type of developing tool into their arsenal some day in the future. I am sure it would come in handy. Here is a link to the thread on xda about AndroVM.

Well, AndroVM is for App Development, not ROM Development. Or just run Android on PC/Mac/Linux for ..fun?

It seems to be for app and general android development, they say within 24min's of the introduction of the app that it also can be used by oem developers. So basically in order to do app development, AndroVM would need to be capable of loading multiple roms and versions and different phone stats and compatibility's meaning testing hacks on the bootloader seems possible. So yes it seems possible to test such things with AndroVM if it loads the correct specifications for the XT910 and bootloader with the rom, which at this point i am not sure if it does nor doesn't load the bootloader or have the correct stats for loading a XT910 rom. If it don't we should ask them to add that feature or ask someone to add that feature due to AndroVM being open source. All this info i am stating is also backed by facts that i seen from a video at an android summit 2013 introduction to the AndroVM product it's self. Here is the link.
