LED Notification for network - XPERIA X8 Themes and Apps

I work in a building where network coverage can be spotty and I'm really disappointed to see that newer phones don't notify you via LED about the network status. Sometimes my phone just sits there without signal for hours before I notice. I really miss this feature from the good old Ericsson phones...
Does anyone know of an app that can do that? Every single one I tried (Blink, LED Me Know etc.) only supports LED notifications for missed calls, SMSs, e-mails and so on. Thanks!

cm settings!
for 2.2 2.3?

Still on 2.1 stock... Didn't have much time to play with CM lately, though I'd love to. Does miniCM 2.2.1 allow the led to blink according to the phone state??

[Q] CM7 Data Woes?

Seems that my phone running fascinatemtd cm7 will sporadically lose data (but not the symbol). This is especially clear if the signal/3g stuff turns white in the notification bar. This does not happen to me on other ROMs.
Is this a CM7 bug or a radio bug? I am using latest CM7 with EC09 radio. Have also tried ED04 radio. The strange thing is if I open the browser the phone's data seems to work and the bars will turn green (or blue depending on theme) again.
****I am noticing very long awake times for Email and Google Maps app (only when latitude enabled)
Please excuse me if I don't understand this.
Your 3G icon turns white (as opposed to what ever color it usually is).
When you attempt to use the 3G connection it turns back on and works fine?
And your phone is not deep sleeping when running latitude or checking/updating gmail?
Are you just concerned about the color change or is there a data loss problem when you are actually using data or.....
If I'm not mistake it is just the radio turning off to conserve battery when not polling for data updates. Mine does the same thing when I leave wifi turned on but I am not with in range of a network (and when the phone first starts up from a restart or power on)
Maybe just a little more clarity and we might have an answer, or its quite possible I am not reading this right.
I will say my issue is one that is sort of funky and difficult to describe. Basically it seems that sometimes the radio connection will die and not sync data while the phone is sleeping. When I turn the screen on either the data bars are white or the 3G icon is altogether gone. Then I either am able to open up a browser and they turn green or I have to reboot the phone. Rebooting doesn't always work.
FYI the bars being green means that your phone has a connection to the google servers.

+1. Having the same issue. Try cycling airplane mode when the icons turn white.

I'm activating my old Droid then gonna swap back. We'll see...

But as has been said, the bars going white does not need to mean that there is a problem. They adjust a bit based on what the radio is talking to...
And have you tried ED05? It is available in the dev section as a standalone odin now...

I'm having the same problems every time I reboot. I especially have this problem if wifi was left on and then i reboot. Wifi connects in the status bar but I have no data transfer. I have to toggle wifi off and back on again to get wifi working again and sometimes I have to do the same thing if 3g is the first data connection on when I reboot. I suppose toggling airplane mode would accomplish the same thing but who knows. Once I am stable in the OS then all of my data works whenever I toggle between 3g and wifi.

Yes similar problems. I overheard somebody today out and about saying their email 'feature' phone with Verizon would intermittently lose data connection. What the heck is going on?

Incorrectly using 3G when on wifi

Has anyone else noticed their Lumia using 3G when it shouldn't be e.g. at home with a working wifi access point?
Mine has done this a few times and because WP7 is so clean and simple it's pretty hard to see what's actually going on - there's no data counter. And to make it worse the data icon shows in the status bar even when wifi is on. Ideally it would show one or the other.
Yes, I notice that too. It could be a bug.

Yup, I think it uses 3G when the phone is locked, as the phone seems to disconnect from Wi-Fi when you lock the phone. Another bug that probably needs addressing.
Yes! This affects me too.
It switches to 3G randomly when I'm on wifi and kills my data without me realising (or shows failed page loads when I have full wifi reception).
It also turns off wifi whenever I lock phone which seems to disrupt/cancel all push messages! Push messaging just isn't working.
So is this problem unique to Lumia 800?
i've noticed this too. it'll also present me with wifi hotspots to connect to, including ones it should be connected to.
as of now, i don't know whether it's an issue with locked or unlocked handsets. my handset was bought unlocked with no branding, but i've noticed some of the bugs i'm having don't seem to happen on network locked/branded handsets.
It's not a Lumia thing, it's just how WP works. Turning off wifi to save on battery use I guess. Android has the same default setting, although it allows you to change it.
I can understand it using 3G for background processes, like you say Android does the same thing.
What I can't understand is it using 3G when I am using the web browser on the phone, and the Wifi icon is lit at the top of the screen.

That's not the case actually, before the firmware update I used to get my notifications, after the update, I don't, I think Nokia did it on the firmware update.
Which firmware was this working in btw?
Oh and turning off WLAN when you have an active connection does NOT save power. It only saves power when there isn't an active connection because the 3G uses more for retrieving background data (eg. regular email, social networking updates) and *much* more for retrieving heavy data. I have tested this on numerous Nokia phones.
^ i got the opposite result - normally i have WLAN turned on at all times, because it always connects to wifi at home and at work. my battery lasted much longer (it lasted the night with 39% left, as opposed to going flat sometime in the night) with just the 3g turned on.
I noticed that wi-fi only stays on after you lock the screen if the phone is charging. Otherwise it cuts the conncetion. Very annoying indeed if you are downloading big games over wi-fi. However I get my notifications and emails just fine in any case. Remeber though, windows phone doesnt support proper push, hence why they cant get skype to recieve calls in the background. Facebook and whatsapp push always comes about 3-4 minutes later than needed.
Another thing that i have been testing for a while on various phones (nokia n9 included, not the lumia because it's too unreliable) and also got mentioned in this tread is wi-fi vs 3g consumption.
So my results are:
with 3 emails 15-30 mins sync or push for one, at least one push service eg, facebook, vkontakte whatsapp etc (where possible)
i concluded that if you just leave the phone there for a day in standby and dont use it, it drains quicker with wi-fi on. Everytime. Every phone.
However when using the internet eg. browsing for half an hour etc. wi-fi uses a lot less battery than 3g.
So only use the wi fi when you need it and switch it off for background tasks. (WP7 does that anyway, for a reason)

Issues with AOSP ICS by Polish Blood for mt11i

First of all, I can't yet post in the development section, so I'll post here.
AOSP ICS by Polish Blood for mt11i is a great release and deserves lots of support
Now for the issues:
Extremely high battery drain: 65% in 9 hours (overnight, no usage, phone locked)! Battery details (if I read them correctly) say its mobile network signal. But I've disabled 3g and data. It's a clean, just installed kernel+rom on a freshly rooted phone with unlocked bootloader. No apps.
Also, if I disable the google search service to get rid of the search bar on my homescreens, It pops back up after I use the camera (but in a nonworking state).

Discharge battery completely, and then recharge it few times, because the battery needs to accomodate with new os.Do not use live wallpaper, because it drain your battery very quickly.About the search bar issue,i've tried to disable it,and i have no problem, after using camera,it doesn't reappeared. You can also try another kernel (i reccomend xneo aokp version from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630532).
thanks, will definitely try that.
Also, I used to have some live wallpapers on on 2.3.4 and it didn't have much impact on the battery life.
As for the google search bar I've just successfully reproduced that two times in a row. Reenabled google search (went to home screen, it worked) then disabled it (went to home screen, it disappeared), then activated the camera (sidepanel button) zommed in a bit, unzoomed. And bam - the search bar is back on the home screen, but in a nonworking state. Did everything again with identical result.
not sure what might have caused it, but the search bar is gone. I wish there was a way to reclaim the space reserved for it...
You can't use it,because that space is reserved only for search bar. This is the way Google made it.
that doesn't stop me from wishing it wasn't so : ] but enough with pointless chit-chat.
Spent half a day trying to get the mms to work. It was configured correctly and the data was on (what a pain, gingerbread was a lot better in that aspect - data off didnt mean disabling mms).
It worked right away when I reflashed the phone without the rootfix. Once I applied that - it kinda works... but not really good. I was unable to properly receive an mms containing a contact, and seemed to randomly fail while sending images through mms. So sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Also, even though one of my test mmses was delivered, the report for it (enabled it in preferences) was "pending".
I'm going to test it further tomorrow.
EDIT: even more problems:
the light sensor doesn't seem to work (no reaction if screen brightness set to auto)
cant test it from the service menu because I cant access the service menu. Once I write in the code *#*#7378423#*#* through phone, the code disappears and nothing seems to happen.
i wonder if this rom includes xloud and Bravia engine, because the developer mentioned them in the #43 reply in the neo V section.

apart from this being offtopic, I don't see a xLoud setting within settings\sound, so it would be a good guess no it doesn't.
as for the BRAVIA - if You have an idea how to check it, I'll look.
Now back to the topic:
list of problems so far:
heavy battery drain - unsolved, tried:
changing baseband (tried 64 and 70),
disabling everything I could,
fully discharging then charging while phone was off,
discharging to exactly 50% then unplugging the batttery for 5 minutes, then charging the switched off phone for at least 5 hrs
issues with mms (random failures to send and failures to receive; erroneus reports (pending while message was delivered); failure to receive contact via mms (notification of a new message, opening messages and... there is an empty message or no message at all))
google search bar randomly reappears in a disabled state (if I tried to get rid of it by disabling google search in settings\apps)
issue with bluetooth (Tested with s8500GT wave @ bada 1.2, worked well before flashing to 4.0.4 by PolishBlood) - phone is not correctly recognized as a phone. I can pair it and a connection is seemingly established, but I cant, for example, send a contact via BT (from s8500 to neoV)
can't access service menu (the code just disappears after entering it via phone, nothing happens)
ambient light sensor does not seem to work (or the A brightness setting doesn't)
issue with messaging: while playing music i've answered a message (phone horizontal) in a conversation. The message i've sent is not displayed once I open the conversation, but it is visible as the last message in the conversations list
if I set the data warning & limit to 0, the Data usage app crashes and will not let me re-enter it (if I try, it just goes back to homescreen)
hope this topic finally gets to be noticed by PolishBlood devs,
generalnie świetna robota i jak najbardziej warta pochwały :]
For the heavy battery drain, try to use XNeo kernel. The ambient light sensor works ok for me,I don't know why you have problems with it.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Neo using XDA
try to use another kernel , not the one provided in the ROM
After several days of usage the battery drain dropped (i'll keep using it to determine whether its an acceptable level).
sometimes the phone will do 14 hours eating only 30 hours of battery and sometimes, for no apparent reason and absolutely no change in usage, it will drain half of it in 6 hrs. So "unstable" would be the best word to describe the battery drain.
Still can't access service menu, still have problems with mms.
i love this room.
my problem is: i cant take photos in 8mpx!
my wifi doesnt work anymore. my phone conect, salve, disconnect, getting ip, connect, salve, disconnect, getting ip.....
a loop. i dont know what to do. i aready shutdown the phone, disable the wifi and turning on again and nothing.
any ideia?

my phone did that too when the wifi signal wasn't too good, but once it got IP it was rock solid. Hm...
As for my case, the brightness sensor apparently works (most of the time and if I dont touch the brightness control key on the power widget - then it just stops). All other issues are still in place. Power consumption often shifts from really low to insanely high for no apparent reason. Battery app shows its network and awake (but the phone is locked most of the time with its screen off)
i never get ip. and when i set ip manally it drops the connection every 30 seconds...
can i change my kernel with AOSP? AOSP only works with AOSP kernel, or not?
i don't want to start a new thread, so I'll ask here:
Does anyone found working Phone.apk with Polish Blood Project other than the original one from the ROM ?

[Q] Problems with background data on Xperia mini CM9

So, I flashed the official and stable CM 9.1.0 on my girlfriend's Xperia mini. Everything works perfectly and smoothly. The only problem is that background data don't work as expected. They are activated, Wifi is set to always on during standby. Here is what happens (Wifi ON): When the screen is off, the device seems to partly deactivate background data (?). It receives emails/WhatsApp messages on an irregular basis, instead of being connected all the time. At least that's how it seems. I checked for it the following way: I sent messages with my phone and then checked how long it takes the mini to receive the message. It took between 2 and 14 minutes, most of the time around 4-6 minutes. So it seems like it either has connectivity issues or issues with the background data. But that is only with the screen off. When the screen is on, none of that seems to happen. I don't know if that happens with 3G as well, yet, as I didn't have the chance to grab the phone to do more testing.
Does anyone have a hint what the reason for this might be? I can do more testing in the next days but as it is not my phone I don't know when this will be (probably Friday).
Edit: I forgot to mention that this was not the case with the official Sony 4.0.4 ROM that was on the phone before.

[Q] Push notifications and chat delay

Hi!
I have a few very annoying problems I want to get rid of.
The first is that all sorts of push notifications are often (if not always) very delayed. For example, when someone's played Wordfeud and it's my turn it can take up to 20 minutes before the phone alerts me. Same thing with Whatsapp and other apps. I did a factory reset recently and the problem seemed solved but after just a few hours the delays began to appear again. Both with 3G and Wi Fi.
It is the same thing with the built in FB-chat. Sometimes messages are also delayed for up to an hour. Occationally when I enter the Message hub and swipes to Online tab the messages arrives but it's rare. It could at first appear as work when two or maximum three messages arrives but then the conversation just dies and I must go to the Facebook app to view and continue the chat. Also after the factory reset it worked somewhat fine but just like with Push notifications it didn't work long enough... Same here, both over 3G and Wi Fi.
Does anyone have a single clue of what the issue is here?
Is the phone checking for new notifications in a certain pattern, like every 30 minutes?
I'm not completely sure if this is the right forum for this but I'm beginning to be kind of desperate. Notifications on iOS and Android works like a charm and I don't think the Lumia with WP should be behind in this matter.
Extremly thankful for answers.

Mikael Ivarsson

its not a problem of software, its a wanted feature of microsoft, wp7 doesnt have any multitastking, so if you turn of wifi and whatsapp is running, wifi is turned off for some minutes and if you turn on screen, wifi connects and whatsapp gets your messages, thats what i realized..
next phone wont be wp. :/ nice OS but the little things like this are annoying

Thanks for the reply!
But that's the strange thing, even if i don't turn off the screen and keep the phone "awake" there are no toast. The push notifications were instant for a few hours after the factory reset so there must be something that is "blocking" push messages. Same thing with the fb-chat. The chat should also work without problems even when the screen is turned off.
Me too are also considering walking out of Microsoft on this one. The OS is very beautiful and everything is so thought through but they still have som work to do.
Yes, background agents run every 30 minutes
thats why i wont buy a wp phone anymore. its really annoying and not SMARTphone like!
But shouldn't push messages be pushed through nearly instant?
it should be popup in the second it arrives
Exactly. Even if the screen is unlocked and wifi 3G is connected and all that it still is a delay.
The problem seem to have solved itself! I don't know what I've done but one morning I woke up and everything worked smoothly. Let's hope the issue doesn't return!
Data connection should be enabled for Push notifications to work. Maybe you went above your data cap or sometimes the 3G reception got lost.
Also, are you sure that app uses Push notifications and not regular Toasts sent by a background agent ?
