Hi Fascinate people!
I am from the Epic forum and am helping a friend root and choose an ext4 based rom with all the poop stripped off. I keep looking through your dev section and notice it's kind of a toss-up between Community and Evil. Which do you prefer or is there a better one than those? I use Syndicate Rom Frozen and would like to get her one that behaves similarly so I can be helpful if things get confusing as she learns. Thanks!
You will find infinite opinions on which is better. Both are awesome and very stable. There might be a few more theming options for the com rom, but that's just personal taste. I might start on the com rom, just to see, but like I said, both are great.

Thanks, i'll hit you up when I have thanks again. What's the main x difference between the two?
Sent from my armed and operational battle station.
Both are TouchWiz based Froyo builds. Both are debloated/debinged/deodexed.
The community rom incorporates TSM parts (team sbrissenmod) into their ROMS, which is a menu in settings with all kinds of rooted and non-rooted goodies (see the TSM thread in themes/mods). This rom is supported by a group of developers (team sbrissen)
Evil Fascinate is maintained by nitroglycerine33, and is equally awesome in terms of both stability and features. His previous builds have included tsm parts (3.5.1 included it) But in an effort to maintain the distinctiveness of EF, 3.6 removed it. It contains numerous under the hood tweaks and a dark red/black theme, although there are a lot of alternate themes available in the OP.
Try 'em both!

Hello, Fascinate fans. I am running the stock 2.2 verizon rom. I just rooted with SuperOneClick and am thinking about trying a custom rom. I use CM7 on my Nook Color and it works great, but I am not ready to try early builds of that for the Fascinate yet. I am looking for a rom that:
-has all hardware working
-is debinged
-is very stable
-has little to no bloatware (only verizon thing I need is 'My Verizon Mobile')
-is based on Froyo or newer
-is snappy, but not enough to kill the battery in half a day
-is easy to flash (I am not ready for flashing radios and such until I am comfortable flashing roms on this phone)
BONUS POINTS: Fixes or removes the GPS toggle in the notification area that rarely works. (This drove me crazy for a few weeks until I realized that the safe way to turn the GPS on is to use the normal settings screen!)
What do the experts recommend? I'm sure I will be flashing nightly within 6 months or so, but want to take it easy for now as I was addicted to flashing roms on my Touch Pro.
Thank you!

Community rom 1.3. It pretty much meets all of your needs minus the gps thing. I don't think that can be modded yet.
I've been KANGBANGED!!!!!
Almost forgot. It's built from froyo source so the stock ed01 radio will do just fine. I also suggest activating voodoo on the kernal that it comes with. Hope this helps.

Keeping it mainstream you have two options. At least the most popular roms come down to two choices the community rom, or evil fascinate rom. Both great choices I'm sure that should meet your needs just fine. Personally I'm on com rom but have heard great things about evil. Seems to be some childishness forming a silly rivalry between the two, but I think there pretty similar to the average end user.
My personal preference is evil fascination. Can't really explain why other than I really dig the dark theming nitro integrated. There are other small differences, mostly aesthetic, so why not try them both? Both are great and supported regularly by great developers.

i tried the com rom, and at the time, there was a problem with it auto-rotating even if i didnt want it to. i don't know if it has been fixed but that was one of the main reasons i switched to evil fascinate. ever since i switched to evil fascinate, everything worked perfectly for me and i loved the overall theme of it so i stuck with it. and now i love it, and i have no real desire to switch back to com rom.

I haven't read any competitive banter from the devs themselves (except for Nitsuj expressing his preference for ComROM, but even then he didn't knock Evil Fascination). It's mostly the fanboys going back and forth. Actually, the two are very similar and I like them both
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll try Community Rom first. I'm sure I can find some guides on how to flash once I have time to search. I have Clockwork Mod installed, so that's probably half the battle.
I still like the blackhole fascinate

Right now I'm running Supra 1.5, but I see there's a metric crapton of roms available. Any suggestions on what roms are particularly fast, or ones that have great eye candy? Full support for hardware (WiMAX, 3D camera/screen, etc) is necessary - although I'm not sure if there are any roms out there that have that support limitation.
I've looked over the ROM list, but I haven't found a really good comparison of features, or what sets each ROM apart from the others.

i think all current ROMs (especially based off stock sense) will support WiMAX and 3D camera/screen. as the aosp roms start to be released though, there *might* be gaps with 3d camera and wimax support as those aren't open sourced in aosp.
accurate comparison lists are generally hard to find and once they're created, hard to maintain. each rom developer kind of follows their own patch and posts up whatever information they determine relevant. there really is not set list of categories or features they all agree on.
if anybody does create this type of list, i'm sure there is demand for it. the rom scene has been kind of disparate. rom manager is one of the few centralized location to find roms with some kind of congregated feedback/comment system.
the general advice given, and sometimes the best, is to try them all out yourself. being able to create a nandroid does make it easier to switch back and forth between ROMs. i personally run all stock with root, busybox and some linux dev binaries for experimenting.
most of the ROMs give a pretty decent description of their ROM in their OP including features and enhancements they have made. almost most post screenshots in their thread and you can glance thru their posts to get a general feel for feedback.
sorry there isnt a great answer and i have yet to see a guide which provides a full ROM feature comparison list. none the less, hope my opinion and feedback helps point in the right direction!
This is an awesome, basic, pertinent information filled, troll-free reply that should be copied and pasted for any other threads that start up with the same question. Kudos to you.

I'm running viper ROM 1.3 with silverneedle kernel and honeycomb sense 3.0 theme. Runs fast and looks really nice.
I personally think the Viper rom is one of the best... Completely opinion though. I say just check them out and see which ones you like the best. I also like BloodyBeast. I personally used to love AOSP but that was when I had an atrix with motoblur. I really do like sense.

3rded!
Supra ROM is a GREAT ROM. It is a great blend of ASOP and Sense and it also had good performance.
Other Roms I like include:
Viper ROM: Great ROM but hasnt been updated in a while
SteelROM: I just like it...
Synergy: Love it other than the fact native hotspot isnt working, also SVN is epic.
Synergy.
Free Dirk!!!
In my honest and humble opinion,
Best sense ROMs: Viper and of course Supra
Best non-sense: SenselessROM 2.1 (my favorite), EVO-nonsense.
They are all good and fully functional unless stated otherwise.
Viper with no lights kernel -- viper is super stable and works great for me. No lights is perfect because I know where all the soft buttons are and now when docked at night or watching a movie I don't have super bright lights across the bottom of the phone.
XRON Rom has everything working and no issues. They have a really good team of devs that respond to your concerns regularly.
I liked Viper 1.3 stable at 1.7
Had troubles with Synergy.. force closes and invisible notification bars. Has to do with the new version being for the GB version with unreleased kernel source. No OC
Ran Bloody Final for a long time. Stable at 1.8
On Supra 1.5 now. Please remove TitaniumBackup from the rom!
The other thread on thus was closed, but I would still like some opinions on favorite roms. I came from the OG Evo, I used Mik's roms forevever. Right now I'm just running stock rooted. I was thinking about flashing nocturnals adrenaline. Just curious what you guys like
We're comin from a pure power source.
Warm TwoPointThree by Myn is really awesome. ROM is simply stable, and has a nice theme to it.
Warm TwoPointThree by Joelz is a Sense 3.5 port, and that one is just as awesome. It just has a few bugs that keep it from being perfect.
Mik has a Sense 3.5 ROM that is like JoelZ's ROM, but it is stock, and has a custom tweaks option that presents you a lot of tweaks, lol.
We have Team Nocturnal, which is what you mentioned. I believe they have around three awesome ROMs in the Dev section. I believe one is Sense with the Xperia launcher, and the other is stock Sense, but with performance tweaks. I can't think of the other :'(
MIUI is the most stable AOSP ROM for the EVO right now, and it is pretty awesome. The theme engine is amazing, and the ROM has like two things wrong with it. No 4G and 3D. Other than that, it's awesome.
Then we have CleanROM, which is pretty awesome. There's like three versions of it. Stripped Stock ROM, a stripped Sense ROM, and. Developer Edition ROM that is tweaked for speed.
There are many many amazing ROM's available, and these were some out of the many. We also have magnificent themers with us. We have Team D3rp, Fowenati, thesparky007, and Mayfield. We also have SteelH :-D
Those are a few out of the many. We also have one AWESOME kernel Dev. Chad Goodman. Well not one, but multiple. We also have Ziggy, and Cayniarb. Chad is just awesomesauce though. Visit development, and enjoy yourself
Yea I used myn's warm 2.2 for while on my og evo, it was nice. I tried miui a few times, too many little bugs for me. I like stock looking roms so I may give mik a try, maybe nocturnal, not sure yet. Thanks for the input
We're comin from a pure power source.
I want to know the best developer for vibrant who knows the hardware as well as softwares(android system) very well
Cyanogen and Romanbb would be my top two. (CM9 and AOKP)
I'm not sure why you need to know who we think the best dev is. Are you trying to find out which is the best ROM? 'Best' is very subjective so you should include your criteria and usage patterns.
I prefer a very lightweight ROM and don't need all the features that CM9 provides, so I opt for Slim ICS and the mods I find useful. I don't know how to remove some of the bloated features from CM9 (e.g. Lock screen stuff since I don't use it). Also, due to the minimal nature of Slim ICS, I have found it to be very stable and compatible with mods and kernels (Devil kernel comes to mind).
If you are looking for some specific custom work, you might as well post what you're looking for because every dev has different strengths and it would help us to direct you to him/her.
I indicated those two due to the fact a lot of ROMs have stuff pulled or based off these two.
but I totally agree with Hung0702
I've always been partial to team whiskey and their roms.

+1 to this, but TW haven't updated in a while. Fishman seems to know what he is doing he did a great job updating Bionix-V and keeping it alive.
My hopes for this thread is to give some insight to our Devs (Which are AWESOME btw) to get a feel for what the community would like to see brought to our device. Other than whats currently available for the Galaxy Note, what are some over your favorate roms from previous devices and what would you like to see ported over?
Roms that I would like to see added would be:
Jelly Bean (Of course)
MIUI (Official)
Gummy
Senseless (Sense UI with most bloat removed but including the One X Camera)
etc.
Feel free to add your thoughts and/or suggestions.
33 views...0 responses...nice. All well
The thing is tough that the developers pretty much make the ROMs for themselves and are nice enough to release then for others. Occasionally they will take request but usually it's what they developed likes

Gotcha, makes sense. I know our Devs are pretty awesome, but when I look at the Dev section all I see is a few of each of AOSP,AOKP, and Hybrids. I really liked the MIUI and would love to see a variety of roms and UIs. Was hoping for people to make suggestions and get involved with that process.
Or.... take the plunge and fulfill your own request... Ionno just a thought
