As the title says, I had NAND Android running (2.2) on my HD2 with magldr 1.13 My battery started giving me issues (short life) and to claim on my guarantee, I wanted to clean up the phone so they don't give me any excuses not to exchange.
Unfortunately, I simply tried to flash a stock WM6.5 rom (3.14 WWE) straight from the SD card using VolDown while turning on. It simply stopped about a minute into the process, restarted, and I get faced with the infamous ! triangle with "Software update failed."
I try the VolDown thing again and I get given:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
So I try using the PC RUU update facility. BAM! Invalid Vendor ID.
So, is this just an issue of the wrong rom? I bought the HD2 here in South Africa and as far as I know, there was no branding whatsoever on it.
Any suggestions?

correct. the flash was allowed to start because you had hspl installed, (otherwise it would never have even started, you would have just seen bootloader flicker for a second), and step 1 of an sd card flash is update the spl, which became 3.03.0000 and then it rebooted and checked the vendorID and found a mismatched rom and failed.
you can either...
1
use hspl4 to set 3.03.hspl, flash the rom you just used but using USB, then use hspl4 again to reset spl to 3.03.0000
2
go to htc.com and find a rom that it allows you to download using your serial number, and flash that.
Well, step 1 worked like a charm. Thank you so much.
Now I see I have another issue. At some point in the past, I put a custom boot splash (I think it is). It pops up when those three red lines of info about radio version etc. appear. I'm not sure if this is the custom splash or what, but I'd like to get rid of it too. Where can I find the stock splash image (again, if it *is* that)?
does it first come to the stock splash, for 7 seconds, and then switch to the custom one when the red lines appear? if yes, that's the secondary splash screen, you can get info about it in my sig 'watermark your leo'. Some stock roms will reset that, some seem not to.
Strangely, thats the area of memory that magldr uses, so odd that its returned to the previous custom one.
Yeah, that's the one...
When I run an nbh file with a RUU .exe I found that's supposed to contain the stock splash and animation, the progress bar just sits at 0%... maybe I need to use that nbimg file floating around here with a bmp of the stock splash? Or maybe I could remove that 2nd splash altogether?
Hangs at 0 because it needs hspl.
So, I should install HSPL, remove the splash, then re-flash the stock ROM to remove HSPL again?
I'm in the same situation. But I have the stock tmobile (uk) ROM from HTC website that I used my serial to get....so can I just flash it and it will revert everything to stock?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App

I have been searching and googling for over 2 hours straight and cant find any solution to my problem:
I was going to install the Custom HD2 Android. But my radio was to old. so I decided to update it with the newest rom.
I Installed the HSPL thingy, did the whole renaming and placement of LEOIMG.nbh
and tried to install it via bootloader. But it stopped at 9% telling me: "00028002 Not allowed"
So now I cant get passed a screen:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
USB
I'm starting to believe there is nothing I can do.. Cant access my sd card when plugged to the pc or nothing..
Is there ANYTHING someone can help me with?
I believe your problem lies with SPL 3.03. I don't think even the latest HSPL will work. I think what you have to do is flash an older stock ROM in order for your SPL to revert to 2.10. Then use HSPL3 to HSPL your device. Then you can flash any ROM you want.

won't work on none tmous phone because spl 3 won't let itself downgrade to spl1. just like spl2 wouldn't downgrade to 1.
the tmous users CAN downgrade from 3 to 2, but there are no spl2 roms for none tmous users.
@OP
if you have a tmous phone then flash a stock tmous rom from sd card.
if you have a normal hd2 then you are stuck on spl3 until hspl gets updated.
EDIT - my answer was incorrect, I was being wary until someone confirmed the spl CAN be downgraded by flashing a correct stock rom for your phone (USB is fine), or by using a goldcard.

you flashed the 3.x rom from sd card. the first thing an sd card flash does is remove hspl, and replace it with stock spl. next, the rom checks that the phone matches the rom, which in your case it doesn't, so it stops and fails.
you could try forcing an spl 2.08.0000 tmous rom on it using goldcard, in the hope it will then allow you to run hspl2.
But all of this requires me to have access to my sd card? I don't have that :\
ah ok.then its time to wait for the next hspl version to support spl3.x
Would it be too much to ask if you could send me a pm or a mail at [email protected] whenever that happens? Probably going back to a good old Sony Ericsson in the meantime, hehe
i'd like to say yes, but it could be several weeks, and i can barely remember to feed myself from one day to the next, so..... heh.
however When it does come out, it will be hard not to notice, just skim the latest thread titles every day or two.
edit - oh, and don't give up just yet, I could be mistaken, its not unusual!. i haven't touched the 3.x rom/spl yet, so i could be wrong.
this thread, for instance,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814838
suggests that the spl CAN be downgraded. reports are still confused.
you could for instance try flashing the 3.x rom over usb using SSPL, and then you'd at least have a working phone.
EDIT - MY RESPONSES IN THIS THREAD WERE NOT BASED ON ALL THE INFORMATION WE NOW HAVE REGARDING SPL 3.03
THE 3.03 SPL CAN BE DOWNGRADED EASILY BY USING THE CORRECT STOCK ROM FOR YOUR PHONE, FLASHED EITHER USB OR SD CARD.
Hi guys,
At the moment i have SSPL.
I want to install HSPL3 - 2.08
but i cant unstall the sspl.
when i try to install hspl, i get error, BAD SPL VERSION
to install my sspl i used the folowing steps :
1. Remove SD (and remove Application Data and Program Files folders from it using SD card reader)
2. Remove HSPL with HSPL2_RUN.exe (flash SPL 1.66.0000 with HSPL2_RUN.exe)
3. PowerOff the phone
4. Boot to bootloader (VolDown+PowerOn) and when it shows "USB" flash stock ROM by running matching RUU_Leo_S_HTC_XXX_3.14.XXX_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15 .50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe (get yours HERE or for Orange UK/FR HERE)
5. Hard Reset (when phone starts booting after step 4, remove the battery, insert it back press VolUp+VolDown and still holding both press PowerOn and follow the instructions)
6. Boot to homescreen.
7. Run SSPL_RUU.exe with Artemis v40 RUU_Signed_0409.nbh in the same folder - YOU HAVE TO BE ON HOME SCREEN, NOT BOOTLOADER (this took me 3 tries until succeded - yes - nerve wrecking, but works). If it doesn't work (hangs on black screen for more than 2min or stays at 0%) remove the battery and try again. If still doesn't work - try solutions in NOTE below.
8. Hard reset (instructions in step 5)
9. when on homescreen - softreset.
10. Insert SD
Any help?
you dont have sspl, 'sspl - soft secondary program loader' is a one shot version of 'hspl - hard/hacked secondary program loader'.
You have 'spl - secondary program loader' - stock spl.
If you followed those steps you now have spl 3.03 and so hspl will not work. You must downgrade your phone to an earlier rom/spl version. 1.66 for example. USB will be fine so long as its your correct stock rom, , any version except 3.14.

AAh ok thanks it worked
I flashed original 1.66 ROM
No w i was able to install HSPL
Thanks!!!
no worries.
Hmmmm, I have the 3.14 ROM with 3.03.000 SPL installed.
What I`m trying to do is Install NAND Android. But to do this I need HSPL 2.08.
Tried downloading one of the older stock roms (1.66) and then attemped to flash via SD and through the .exe file directly.
From the .exe file it boots to the tri color screen and then reaches the progress bar screen. However it sticks there and the errors out with a code : 294.
Through the SD method after the phone detects the .nbh file it comes back with a "28002 : Not allow" error message.
Have tried this with varoius types of Mem cards but no luck.
I then tried SSPL with 1.66 as the ROM and i got it to flash the ROM with no problems but the HSPL still sticks at 3.03. And thats expected since SSPL is like a one shot go at flashing a ROM different from your region.
Question : Since this isnt working, will a task 29 help in this case? From what I understand it formats the filesystem that holds the OS. By doing so, will I then be able to flash one of the older Roms so I can install HSPL 2.08?
Any help will be appreciated.

i had similar issues, i used task29 that contains blank .nbh. you must have hspl 2.08 first to run this then install any custom ROM through PC or your branded ROM through SD card it should work or install Android then. i hope this helps.

Mate, do you want to upgrade or downgrade? You're statement is confusing
what do you mean "locked"?
As long as you flash the CORRECT STOCK ROM, you can upgrade or downgrade.
What you have to do first is find the CORRECT STOCK ROM".
you can't try all countries version, it is dangerous.
Go to htc website and select the country where your hd2 come from, and download the stock rom using your SN.
If you can't find the CORRECT STOCK ROM, the only alternative is using gold card method.
Good luck

I think you haven't found th CORRECT STOCK ROM, that is why "not allow"
Gold card is a method to enable you to flash stock rom from other country (it is useful in a situation where you can't find the CORRECT STOCK ROM.
There is a thread for gold card, just using search button to find it out
Good luck

Is it branded phone (telstra, Tmobile, orange, etc)? if yes, you should go to their website instead of htc website.
However, if you still fails, then the only alternative is using gold card method.

Good question, I have sean lot of users installing a wrong ROM, but on the correct device.
the HD2 T-Mous device isn't the same as the european device.
But I'm not sure at 100% you can save it.(lucky the new 3.14 european stock rom have the same radio if not it was total stuck.)
but now how to restore
I mean you have already try to flash (the correct on) over SD and it didn't works.
can you tell witch error you get when you was trying to flash the correct stock ROM over SD or by your PC?

When trying to flash the correct ROM over SD it will just have the plain white screen with "installing..." on the top and it does nothing. I left it alone for an hour and nothing happens.
When trying to flash with the exe on my computer, I will go through all the process and click next, next next, then it tries to update the rom (on the phone it shows the black HTC screen with the status bar) and it stays at that screen at 0% and after a few minutes it will show update failed on the pc while the phone still shows the status bar at 0%. i think so as the hspl is off your phone. out of ideas otherwise, ya know? what can it hurt (assuming kurt, etc. don't have ideas)?
question will be if they can see the rom, etc. but even then it still is official, just not right.

Don't lose hope and be patient. There are a LOT of people much smarter than me here. It's just that they're preoccupied right now doing a much need reorganization of the XDA site. Keep reading and give the smart guys a chance to help you by continuing to post any additional info you can gleen from your phone problem.
Hmm, it isn't looking good.
If you only have flashed a wrong radio, well it wasn't so obvious for HTC to see what have caused the problem so there was 50% chance that the warranty worked. (but you may never say them that you have flashed, if not thy will suspect a wrong manipulation of the user.)
But beside that you have flashed the stock ROM form a other device. the problem is the SPL => 3.03 this isn't for your device.
SPL are like Secondary Program Loader. Think of this in the same sense as bios on a pc. (it sets where your system boots from, intialises sub system process etc)
so this is a bigger problem.
And when you will send your device to HTC repair center thy will see directly the wrong spl; so no warranty.
I'm sorry to say, but personally I don't see a solution.

Well, the other thread had the OP listing the exact same message, and she had also accidentally installed the wrong SPL. I just thought it deserved a look.
It seems that my phone is bricked after I tried to flash a stock rom on it (3.14 something), which is obviously not for my phone because it is WWE. That failed flash left me with SPL 3.03 and now I can't flash anything else. Tried to Hard reset it with another stock rom from the sd card, but failed again. Any ideas how to fix it?
Hspl4, pick whatever spl you want.
or, use your serial to grab a rom from HTC website, into bootloader, flash it.
I tried using the usb flash aproach but it failed as well.
So I tried hard reseting with a stock rom on the sd card and I got this on the red green blue screen when after it failed.

wrong stock rom. Only the CORRECT stock roms will work, hence using your serial number on eth htc website.
Thats the usual reason for this type of error, wrong stock rom from sd card.
I got my spl to 1.42 but it gives me error when I try to flash this rom from the official web site. RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship
And none of the roms on the htc site accepts my S/N. Which rom should I get?
Where's the phone from? Its down to you to find out. Example, mines from o2, so I would try to download o2 roms cos wwe wouldn't work.
Course, the easy way is to use hspl4, and then flash any rom you like OVER USB.....SD will remove hspl and then fail, which is prob what happened to you in post 1

For my ATT HTC Titan I, I debranded, SPL, HSPL and it says HSPL is there on the Phone's SPL screen - but I cannot use any custom rom that uses Radio 17. Only radio 16 works.
Thanks
my SPL screen shot
My SPL screen shot is attached below
BTW, anyone see any issues with the SPL screen above?
I am unable to run any rom that needs radio 17.

There is nothing wrong with your phone; in fact there are many here who would give their life to own your phone. For many of the custom ROMs here you have to flash "radio 16" with radio 17. If you have not done this then your phone will be stuck at the HTC logo on startup. You have "gold" in your hands and you don't know it.

Please no, why?
You are one of the few with the ATT Titan's to have HSPL on there.

That is because you need to flash radio 17 after you flash the rom

locky you, have hspl 2.5, if you want change my divece for your divece....... what you said?
Guys, I have tried the roms listed here on this site that also have the associated radio files as well But everytime I install a custom ROM, with the radio 17, my phone stops at th e HTC logo and never moves from it.
Also, I cannot update the SPL 2.6 from HTC now - it always stays at SPL 2.5
My only need is to unlock my phone so that I do not have to keep enterting the unlock code everytime the phone restarts. I have bought the unlock code from ebay and it does work, but have to keep entering it after every boot cycle.
I found the cingular Eternity 1.0 ROM, installed it - but the SPL continues to remain @ SPL 2.5 with the HSPL info as is on the SPL screen.

"Lund123" I need you to listen to me for a moment...if your device is stuck at the HTC logo on startup, your radio is incompatible with the ROM on the device. If you have already flashed the custom ROM and it requires you flash the radio it will be with the entire package you downloaded. I use Eburon 2.1; the radio and ROM are separate and both must be flashed from bootloader mode. To use Eburon you must flash the radio that comes with it. Your device is HSPL; it needs no further tinkering with. The custom ROMs can be flashed at will. One warning, a return to official stock ROMs will likely re-lock your phone. The goal of these threads are to achieve what you apparently don't realize; you are HSPL. It is not automatic for many of us to achieve this; HSPL opens your device in a way that can only be described a dream. You're lucky! Flash the radio separately from the bootloader; it's no different than flashing the ROM. In regards to having to re-enter a code; it appears your device may not be subsidy (carrier) unlocked or there is a security lock put on the device which it will ask before it launches the OS. That may require you running what a few of us in the old days did with our HD2s and Rhodiums...perform a task 29, but you may need a deeper "wipe" something akin to a low-level format on a PC.
"berrywr": I get that HSPL is already on the phone, and I am grateful for that. But I believe, I have loaded both the custom rom + radio that comes with it with no positive results.
I have tried the Dynamics ROM (as an example) and the Radio that comes with tit. First I flased the ROM uising the bootloader method. Then I repeated the same for the Radio. Same results, stuck on HTC logo. I have used the RUU program that it comes with to load the roms. I even have tried using the GOLDCARD for these roms, but same results. And Yes, I get it that I need to install the rom first and then the radio that comes with the package. Interestingly, my Radio on the SPL screen never changes to Radio 17, it always stayed 16 (like in the image posted on the 2nd message, I have never seen it read Radio 17.xxx).
Thanks

It's possible you have the radio glitch where the radio does not change after flashing. Have you tried searching the Titan thread, to see if anybody else has mentioned the problem? I know I swear I've seen this happen to other users...I will do a search tonight to see if I can find anything.
I have looked around and most of the folks are having trouble getting the HSPL to load, my problem has not been stated elsewhere that I could find. I for some reason have the HSPL but I cannot do the following:
1. Cannot use the HSPL program to revert back (uninstall HSPL). When I tried to install OSPL from within the program it errors out.
2. If I install any other radio than 16, it does not take affect - the update goes successfuly, but the SPL screen shows radio 16
3. I cannot install the SPL 2.6 from HTC - it does not take affect. The SPL screen still shows 2.5. Since I cannot have SPL 2.6, I am unable to get some OS updates.
Will keep looking. RUU and goldcard programs - both working properly but result in same outcomes.
