It is not that laggy on other phones and I think it looks very nice, aside from that low framerate. Did Samsung fail at their hardware acc for that?!

That would mean, the boot up process is working slower as it could, I don't think so. BUT it could be that the GPU is in "standby" while doing the animation. Any idea how to set the GPU clock via init.rc? Or is this a kernel thing?
Pretty sure that is not how the boot animation works. If you want a smother one you got to make your own with some custom frames in between the original frames. There is plenty info on how to make your own boot animation, SEARCH!

Thank you for crying around useless crap. Actually, I already DID my own animation, and also posted it in Themes/Apps forum.
The thing is that I really like the stock one! (Which can NOT be edited)
If it would be as smooth as the one on GS1, which is just the same, the animation would be just fine.

I think you are wrong in that assumption .
Why well the Samsung QMG boot files have been either edited or a QMG editor/software has been used to build at least one custom boot via QMG files that is not a zip but both of the bootanimation.qmg files with a different animation inside .

You got a link? I could not find a qmg one.
Just found this out: When you push the original galaxy s animation to our galaxy s 2 it is smoother but also way slower, seems like the number of frames is doubled.
does it really matter that the boot animation is bit laggy???
it's not like people stand around phones to watch the boot animation or that laggy boot animation hinders other functions of the phone...

It has nothing to do with the CPU or GPU clockspeeds, its all about the files used. I've been using the S1 for quite some time and some ROM releases have the smoother (Pre 2.1) animations while some included the ones that looked lagged ( lesser total frames ) What I did with the S1 was just to save the boot animation file on a pre 2.1 and used it on all of my flashes.
But really this should not be of any concern..

-The problem is that the galaxy S2 displays EVERY .qmg file to slow. It shows not enough FPS (around 4), even when using the ones with more frames from the S1 (about 20-30). This resoults in an animation that is waaayy to long.

The droid is set for a 2.1 update and the UI looks great! Anyone know if the hero 2.1 will have animations like the one shown in the link below (youtube video)
http://phandroid.com/2009/12/21/android-2-1-on-the-motorola-droid/
No
because I believe the cpu on the droid is a generation better than the hero's.
In the mobile game, going from the Hero generation cpu to the cpu thats in the iPhone 3g S, snapdragon etc is quite a large jump.
Actually i believe the difference is only from 528mhz to 550mhz.
These caps are not even attainable without using SetCPU to force the frequencies either. I would expect the Droid to show barely any increase in performance
also you have to remeber that when the droid came out it was very laggy (worse than the hero was) and it took fixes in software, so if hero roms have sum fixes im sure we can run the same animations, epecially as we have a smaller screen so should take less memory.
Clock speed is irrelevant its like comparing one core from a 2.6ghz i7 against a 2.6ghz pentium 4. Also as far as I know the hero has no discrete graphics processing? the droid has the powervr sgx chip thats in the iphone 3gs/n900, I don't know if the UI in 2.1 is accelerated by the gpu but if it is the performance difference between the droid and the hero is huge.
Hello, the Hero runs Raging Thunder very smoothly, infact I was shocked at how well it ran. I'm sure the hero can handle those animations.
It also says that the thing that droid is running is android 2.1+Sense. So if we're getting 2.1 then that means that will be coming with it.. right?

Hello, I don't think this is going to be what our update will be.
well i think those animations will work on the hero...when it gets ported on it..
cause as u can see in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74MEoDVi7x8 the espresso rom has animations too, and they work on the hero (well not that fast, but thats because the rom isnt 100% yet)

The animations are not on that video, and I hope thats not the final rom. The app screen looks horrible! I like the current scheme on the hero, simple and effective.
well yeah they are not the saaaaame animations as the 2.1 on the droid, but there are animations when u wanna open menus etc.... just look further in the video...so that tells me: animations are possible

Thats already possible with the current Hero! Just switch it on in the settings.
The animation I was looking for was the one where the app screen animates with translucent floating icons into place.
May be too intensive for the Hero, but we can always hope!
Is it possible to port the Droid rom to the Hero ? Because i like it
would be kinda cool....
The droid rom has allready been ported to the G1. So, a port for the Hero wont be far away

Hey guys, this thing poped up a while ago over at the Galaxy S forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981125
its suppose to increase overall smoothness of the phone in general, no porting was required to go on to basically all the other galaxy s and works for most of the froyo Roms. This is not suppose to change the benchmark scores in anyway, so the increase/decrease is most likely due to something else
Flashing the update.zip WILL NOT WORK, you have to use the alternative method which is replacing the files with root explorer, or something similar.
So it seems we have a mixed bag of results, if you actually applied the tweak (properly), please please vote if it works for you or not.
and of course, i take absolutely no credit for the work
Interesting post. I just backed up those two files:
/system/bin/app_process
/system/bin/system_server
...and then installed it through xRecovery. It seems to work fine. I mean, the bootanimation is still there, and nothing seems to crash (except Angry Birds for some reason, but I think that was already happening before I installed this). I can't say whether or not it's had a big effect though. Scrolling though the app drawer (in ADWLauncher EX) seems pretty smooth, as does scrolling in Root Explorer. I'll have to try it longer.
Thanks!
Edit: Wait, I don't think it installed properly. I checked the filesizes and they're still the originals. I'll try it again. Hold on.
hmmm no noticeable change but it did seem to boost my linpack
could be placebo but it does seem slightly smoother, like maybe it maxes your fps or something along those lines
Yup, not very noticeable but seem to increase my quadrant 10%. Still need to test more.
But, install in xrecovery, file date still 2008, file size fixed with new install. Anybody, have same issue?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yup, installing it through xRecovery does nothing. It doesn't give an error, but it doesn't copy the files either. I managed to install the files properly using adb through xRecovery. I tried though adb while the phone was booted normally, but it couldn't overwrite the files because they were in use.
After installing, it works, but same story as above. I can't tell if it's better or worse. Quadrant scores about the same (~1300 for me) and Linpack scores around 34 (instead of 30 normally). The Linpack score could be because I had just rebooted though.
BTW, this is on FreeX10 beta 4.
Yup, just applied it (using Root Explorer) on CM 6.1.3 V4.4, after reading your post.. Killed boot-animation (to show its there), and doesn't seem to harm anything besides that. Hard to tell the difference, but maybe less laggy (I use Go Launcher (as cube) and LOTS of widgets) and apps loading slightly faster/ smoother.. Think I'll keep it!
Thank you for pointing, and thanks to nikademus! )
I'm on cm6.1.3 4.5.7, my x10 run at maximum 600mhz (setcpu) to save power. It's seem better speed. Just keep it, at least it's not harmful

How noticeable does it really need to be? I love the Go Launcher because HS can be configured as rotating cube (a bit like my Linux with Compiz), but it had begone to feel a little laggy and now its perfectly smooth again.. Good enough for me!
thats weird, i don't think its suppose to raise any scores. But i guess on a different device it might have different effects.
FWIR what its suppose to do is raise the FPS across the phone and hold it constant.
Just in case imma backup using nandroid then ill install these two files and see what they do!
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
killed boot animation which i dont care.
and seems a bit smoother as far as scrolling goes.
so i'd say it did some good and no harm as of now.
I did test quadrant with 1ghz and confirmed not increase my quadrant. But during 3d test fps go up and down unlike before. Xrecovery intallation worked for me, it's kill my bootanimation too.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Does it really kill boot animation. But I like the cyanogen animation. Does it replace it with something else?
Also do I have to do anything with that Meta file?
Is it possible to reinstall the boot animation or is it impossible with this mod?

And no I looked on the galaxy s thread and couldnt find anything to do with replacing it correct me if I'm wrong mate

I replaced both of the files by Root Explorer also made a backup.
Then set my cpu speed to (Performance) max 576Mhz min 245.
Phone performance - maintain (scrolling smoother) but manage to save me more battery.
Can't tell the performance for gaming as I'm not a big fans of games.
But it did make my x10i smooth, and save battery!
Edit : Angrybirds running smooth
If you look closely enough, the X10 drops frames severely with this tweak applied. To see what I mean, keep a close eye on the GFX benchmarks in Quadrant, you will notice it drops frames after every 5-8 seconds.
I tested it on Angry Birds too, it drops frames - you just have to watch closely and you will see it. I don't know if it has affected my Quadrant score 'coz I never benchmarked it before replacing the files, and with these 2 files replaced, my score is 1329.
Edit : I'm on Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 [2.2.1] v4.4 with MattedBlues theme applied. If neither of you experience dropped frames, it might as well be the theme or the ROM, not sure.
Can we use the V6 Supercharger Script with our Rezounds?
Sent from my 4GHz Quad Core G1
I havent tried this yet since the device is fast enough. I believe this requires init.d support which only one rom fully supports I believe. my guess is the script might produce lag
sent from my rezound using tapatalk
ok thanks for the reply. I used to use the script on my inspire 4g. I don't think I know exactly what the script does. Could you explain for me? I got the script to run but when I tried the kernelizer script it just sent me into a boot loop. My understanding of the supercharger script which I read while it was running was that it frees up memory and changed the scheduler.
Sent from my 4GHz Quad Core G1
Try latest update that I just posted.. it's REALLY polished and many niggly things have been taken care of.
You can say no to io scheduler tweaks in the KAK script if it caused a bootloop.
It's good for all roms as long as you're rooted and read the help file
Best way to know for sure is do a full nandroid backup.then flash the file and take it for a spin. If it sucks, do a wipe and restore.

Well RC5 would make a recommendation on which HP settings to choose but there is also the calculated settings that seem to be working really well for anybody who has commented on that feature
If you select option 10 to custoomize it should first ask if you want to use the calculated values so you don't have to type them in.

haha... well I don't know what you like better if you want more apps in memory or if you want maximum snappiness with less multitasking or a balance.
Best if you try both.
I came up with the calculated values because alot of devices actually fall between HP categories so if you'rr right in the middle of 2 categories then maybe the calculated one.
If rather have snappiness. So go with the calculated?

I went with option 10 all good so far. It says in the script that option 9 is recommended for my device tho. I also have a question about the widget. When I put it on the screen it only shows an icon that starts the script. Is that all it does?

You can make widgets to quickly powershift to a different set of minfrees, bulletproof one shots, the vac, superclean and engine flush scripts too
How do I do that? When I choose the widget it just makes a shortcut icon

So I wanted to write this quick and simple tutorial on how to get utter smooth UI. it only takes 3 quick things and you'll be set.
1. Use Nova Launcher. TOUCHWIZ has come a long way but it's still not where it needs to be.
2. Under developer options make all the animations .5
3. Under developer options turn on Force GPU Rendering.
With these three things done this phone is absolutely butter smooth and runs super fast.

Same here. Not even the tiniest lag or stutter. Set my animation speed to 0.5x (I do that even on AOSP phones) and it's faster than anything. Apps load instantly. Battery life is great. Screen quality is unbelievable. Camera quality is sick. Best phone I ever had. Now when I see how many problems Pixel 2 and 2 XL has. I'm happy that I got this phone. Samsung is improving a lot. But next year I might switch to Pixel 3 XL(only if they will fix all these problems).
I think the Play Store and Chrome lag from time to time. The Samsung browser is smoother.

This shouldn't even be up for discussion. If your touchwiz UI is not smooth on this phone maybe do a restore or check for 3rd party software utilizing your CPU in back ground. This phone doesn't need 3rd party launcher or customization to be smooth.

Performance modes do nothing in terms of how CPU and GPU are handled all they do is mess with resolution screen brightness.
Also force GPU 2d is doing nothing for you as it was put in place long time ago for apps that didn't utilize GPU for 2d. This day age with new android and touchwiz your GPU is being used and you could test this buy enabling *show GPU view updates* in dev options and navigate your UI and you will see the screen flashes red that because your GPU is already being used

Well good for you Some people can't handle the options you get with Android. At least you know your limitations. Best of luck on the X !
Note....this isn't sarcasm. Coming from a technical background, if you don't need or use the features of the note, by all means go with something simpler for you to use! My wife loves her iPhones..... I have an i7 MacBook pro and I've built several hackintosh towers. I'm not against apple but their iOS can't do what I need it to physically / technically. The note is the best of the best of the Android platform at the moment.

I though about the X as only thing really holding back on ever getting iphone really was lack of OLED as im not into rooting and custom ROMS anymore.
Wanted X more so for game optimization but is way too much $$$ for what you get.
Glad I didn't though the note 8 *qualcomm*is huge surprise in terms of performance compared to like my note 5 that would thermal throttle way too fast and frames would drop. This phone has no noticeable thermal throttling with games so games that support 60fps run smooth and sustain performance and course you cant beat the quality of this screen my UHD mkv movies look so good on this.
