[Q] Stock or Alternate baseband versions - Motorola Photon 4G

Hello, my international 3G [850 Mhz UMTS with Claro Dominican Republic] stopped working a few days back. I´ve reflashed to stock, and back to different roms, on the hopes that it will update my baseband version, but not even the Home Base Rom, with an alternate Baseband (i believe) changed it on the phone.
My question is, how do i install a baseband version, or does someone have any baseband sbf or img files for the Photon, to see if it fixes the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Motorola Photon 4G
Unlocked Bootloader, Rooted, Custom CWM
Home Base ROM with Update 4.2

No one?
There isnt a way to download or extract the baseband or modem software from the Photon? It is not on the SUN 198 .sbf.

I wonder the same. I saw people have 03, 05, and 07 basebands. I had all OTAs and then flashed 198_6, but I still got 05, not 07. I recall that I received an error message at BP passthrough (phone disconnected) during 198_6 flashing. Afterward, my system shows 05 baseband and 198_6 build.

Mine says _01.21.07R, which might be updated, but i believe it messed up my UMTS settings or something.

fix thing
I had similar situation. This happened once I flashed the homebase.
How did it start working?
using CMW I wiped all data and without booting to homebase, I activated RSD protocol and flashed stock firmware using RSD lite. After that all work without problems.

I actually tried that, with no luck. It might be that my actual hardware is messed up.

I don't know about the basebands, unfortunately. I even have some ISSUES with mine myself. When I call, it initiates and virtually "hangs up" but also continues the call, and forces the phone back into calling mode. /expletive/ing weird.

Yup

Tried
Officially tried everything. (BTW, i managed to change baseband versions and did nothing to my phone, i believe we dont want to see that our phones are physically messed up)
Lets see if there is anything left to do.
1. Flashed 198 Stock SBF
2. Flashed 154 Stock SBF
3. Tried Alien Rom
4. Tried Stockbase Rom
5. Tried CM7 Pre-Alpha Rom
6. Restored Nandroid from a completely stock rom but rooted, unlocked adn with CWM.
7. Factory reset (About 25 times but besides deleting data, system and cahche does not do anything.
8. Changed basebands.
Is there anything left to do or is my photon messed up physically?

BTW man, ima do a nandroid backup now that i have the other baseband, and ima upload it on thursday, on my day off, so you can try it on your own photon. Be sure to do a nandroid beforehand, in case anything goes wrong.

Restore to stock

I'm sorry if the answers to my question have been answered but I can't find them after searching for a few days.
I need to send my Atrix in for a repair or replacement. It is unlocked and rooted running Turl's CM9 right now. Obviously I can't send it back as is, so how should I go about everything?
Flash an SBF, flash a fruitcake rom, or something else that I haven't stumbled upon?
The only threads I could find are from a year ago and so much has changed since then. I just want to be sure I go about this the correct way. And should I go through ATT or Motorola? I know my phone is still under warranty with both.
Thanks for any help! It is much appreciated!
"Always have an exit strategy"
You can flash a fruitcake but the "unlocked" text will remain so you can hope for the best.
Or you can try an SBF (Disclaimer: at your own risk).
How long have you had it? Usually if you have had it for more than 30 days AT&T won't help but if you are still under "warranty" with them I would try AT&T first.
If you can't find a way to return your phone back to stock you can try Motorola, they might just overlook the modifications you have done.... or they might charge you a service fee...... or they might just send the phone back to you. It really depends on who ever is processing your claim and the mood they're in.
Also, please don't start multiple threads on the same topic.

OK thanks. I had read that if I use the Motorola Software Update tool it will erase the "unlocked" text. I don't know how true that is though.
And sorry about the multiple threads, its just annoying not being able to use half my keyboard in portrait. Just was hoping for some quick answers.
Thanks again for the quick response

I had restored a few times to stock.
I do that:
Reboot in fastboot mode and fastboot - w, fastboot erase system, fastboot erase cache, fastboot erase preinstall.
Turn phone off and pull out sim card and sd card.
Reboot in rsd mode (olding vol+ at boot) and flash your sbf with rsd lite.
That's all.

Ok, you don't happen to have a stock sbf file? I can't find one anywhere.
Also, why is it that we shouldn't flash sbf files? It seems that people have success with them but everyone keeps saying not to do that. But I can't find a stock flashable zip and the fruitcake links are dead so sbf seems to be my last resort.
I'm just stuck scratching my head because of all this confusion?

Look in the firmware superthread, in the last pages someone have a link in his sign to a page of many stock sbf files. I found there my updated one.
I always got succes with rsd lite but only with a full wipe with fastboot before it say "pass" at the end. Otherwaise it say to 'manually reboot'.
Don't know why people say "do not use sbf", probably there is a reason, but i think it is the only way to remove the 'Unlocked'
Here links to froyo sbf
and to GingerBread sbf
also you need to delete any folder about apps that need root to work and su folder and anything that presume you have rooted your phone

Depending on what build you are currently on you do not want to "downgrade". So if you are on a Gingerbread build (4.5.91 or 4.5.141) do not flash the Froyo SBF. And probably if you are on the 4.5.141 build (2.3.6), it is not recommended to flash the ".91" build. That is where the issues can occur.
I have also used RSD Lite to flash back to stock (a few times) but always use caution. So, for @scarbutt11, do you happen to remember what build you were on before you unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom ROM?

Yeah, I was running stock 4.5.91/2.3.4. I'm on a cm9 build now. I'm not sure if that will matter at all for flashing back to GB? I know I tried cm7 to see if it was just cm9 causing the problems, but it seems it is hardware related.

Yeah, it depends on what "Official" build you were last on. Since you were on "4.5.91" then I would just use that SBF. Like someone else mentioned, it is possible to use RSD Lite, just use caution.

u need to do a write up in here of how u did it. it might be redudant to some but to others like myself, it will be like having my hand held doing a scary process...your guidance as having it done yourself would help...with a how to..

Failed to boot 2 temporary solution (will loose 4G)

Update:
there is a good solution by peetr_ located @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798145
no need to flash full SBF.
Earlier post (July 2012)
*************************************************************************
this method is obsolete now.
but it was the only way at that point in time.
Use it on your own rick.
it worked for me to get back my photon 4G after locked OTA 2.3.5 update
it uses Electrify sbf. Electify is similar to photon with no 4G (Carrier is US Cellular - may not work with Sprint)
I am not in US so not able to check.
the method I used to clear Failed to boot 2 error on photon 4g:
be warned that you may loose 4G. this is ELECTRIFY SBF
downloaded the Electrify sbf form here
use RSDLite 5.5 to flash this sbf into the phone. in the final stages, it will show failed. but don't worry
it will work. try to switch the phone on. some times it will not boot.
wait for some time and it will boot slowly.
perform a factory reset from settings or by using android recovery
it is easy to root with photon-torpedo.tar
root help is available here
Update pls visit

I was just going by what i had read in some forums earlier. And trust me anything is better than bricked!
If you dont mind, what works and dont?
Anyone else having issues download SBF from Teamuscellular site? I have used IE, Chrome, Firefox, & Safari to try and download with no avail! It always stops around 300mb, when it states it is a 500 or 600 mb file, so im basically getting only half the file dl'd... Maybe someone could send me a copy of what they have or something?!?! I have been going through just trying to revive my phone for days now... ANY HELP APPRECIATED!

It's a challenge, I know.
Looks like I have myself some serious reading to do but if I can help you guys out with this I'm down! I have to get this PC back up, so I'll be on this asap. Thanks a million, and hopefully I can contribute some useful information.
On a side note, I have experienced a few reboots randomly since flashing the sbf. I'm sure out had to do with the fact its a different phone firmware, bUT thought you might like to know.

Those reboots are modem panics, because of no radio.
Or you can try to install mofish rom with bootstrap and try to fastboot flash only boot.img first, or I can give you sbf with boot and recovery.
Factory reset?

there is no sbf for kddi.
As I've learned, custom ROMs don't traditionally come with radios so, flashing them (meaning the custom ROMs) won't affect whatever radio is currently on the device - you have to do it manually to upgrade/downgrade if that's the intention.

[Q] need cspire sbf or a way to get 3g back

ok i ran into a problem re flashing cm10 on my x2 had to sbf using the ntelos sbf re rooted and restored 754 boy's 2.3.6 nandroid and now i have no data, i can make calls and text but no 3g anyone know a fix for this or am i stuck till up grade. will c spire flash the correct sbf for me if i took it to them or is that a shot in the dark.
C Spire won't give you an sbf. I've been trying for months. Do you have a nandroid backup of the stock rom that came with your MX2? I've seen it mentioned a few times in this forum that you can sbf with the Ntelos file and then restore your nandroid backup of the stock rom and everything should be working fine. I have bricked two Milestone X2 after trying various mods and took it to my local C Spire store. All they would do is warranty the phone out and give me a new one. They could not use a sbf to reset it. Double check to make sure your data connection isn't disabled in your settings and try dialing *228 to activate your phone and see what happens.
Edit: I misread your post and see that you restored 754boy's nandroid. I'm not sure what else to tell you except what is in the last sentence of my post.
done the *228 thing. i have data enabled. i can make calls and text. as I've been doing research I've found out that I have no choice but to deal with it or warranty it out. i use Wi-Fi at home and the office so i think I'll deal with it for now.

in theory yes there is how ever you would need to know exactly what files and where they are. also restoring them would be a pain without extensive knowledge on how they work or someone with the knowledge to create a walk through.

Did you ever get this problem sorted out? I'm trying to fix a MX2 I accidentally bricked while attempting to flash. I SBF'd but all carrier settings got changed to Verizon. Well I flashed a Sprint PRL to it and that allowed me to activate the phone again. Calling and texts work fine but no data at all, just like the OP.
first read the mx2 thread, if you have not yet
2 if you need to sbf only use sbf_flash not rsd |ite
3 you maybe able to fix by changing apn settings
4 if changing apn does not fix, you will need to take back to store, and have it reflashed

first read the mx2 thread, if you have not yet
2 if you need to sbf only use sbf_flash not rsd |ite
3 you maybe able to fix by changing apn settings
4 if changing apn does not fix, you will need to take back to store, and have it reflashed

APN settings are only good for SMS or MMS settings..... I think. Anyway, I took it to cspire and they were clueless. All they tried to do was *228, which I had already done. Factory reset wasn't working either. Anyway all they could advise me to do was an upgrade since my warranty expired 2 damn weeks ago. They need to have REAL techs working in there.
I'm gonna keep experimenting.......
did you?
menu>system settings>battery & data manager>data delivery
check 'data enabled'
check 'background data'

Yup tried that too
I do not know, can settings be checked from radiocomm?
if so maybe someone on cspire, could save the settings, or get a screenshot

Hmm never tried that. Hopefully someone can pull that info so I can have something to compare.
if there has ever been an c spire mx2 ota update, and if someone saved it
it can be flashed, in flashmode, with moto-fastboot.exe
at least parts of it can, not sure if all moto updates flash the radio
I know with the D2G the 2.2 to 2.3.3 changed the radio
there is an update.zip for MX, have no idea what that would do to MX2
[ZIP]Cellular South (C Spire) OTA GB 2.3.5 Update zip
could really hard brick it, ,if it didn't, maybe could flash a MX2 sbf with sbf_flash
but that's something you try just before you toss it in the trash

If the update is to 2.3.5 it will bomb if it is to update to 2.3.6 it will bomb. Sbf flash is one of the only ways to safely sbf and still retain carrier information to allow data access. If you have already flashed the ntelos sbf with rsd lite then the only thing that can bring back data is to find an ota for 2.3.6 and modify your build.prop to 2.3.5 to let the stock recovery flash it. Or take it to your carrier and have them reflash the phone with their sbf. Sad fact but I've had it happen too much till I switched to sbf flash.

I tried sbf_flash using Ubuntu via VMware. It detected my phone but failed to flash each time. Could you elaborate on what to edit in the build.prop. That sounds easy since I've edited it before to add and change certain stuff......then again, would still need that 2.3.6 OTA and I've never seen one around. I'm not even going to waste my time or gas by taking it to Cspire. The people in there are useless when it comes to technical stuff like this.

BIIIIIIIIIIG Problems!!! Could use serious help...

Hi everyone,
I've been having some serious issues and I am stumped on what to do so I'm turning to you smart guys here at XDA...
I'm using a Droid X2 flashed to Cricket, running CM7.2. I read through the CM10 Jelly Bean thread and really wanted to give it a try because of all the neat features it has in it. I did a Nandroid backup, installed the zip and gapps, wiped data/cache and booted into CM10. Everything went good, got CM10 configured, but had a non-relevant issue with CM10 and figured it was probably just a bad install. I tried to restore my Nandroid and it froze up halfway through and sat at "Restoring .android_secure" for OVER an hour. So I made the dumb mistake of pulling the battery which resulted in a bootlooping soft-brick. I then did an SBF back to 2.3.5 which naturally wiped my flash to Cricket. So I rooted and re-flashed to get my network working again which went perfectly fine. Then I restored my Nandroid and went back to CM7.2....and now my Wi-FI says "Error" and will not even attempt to connect. I figured the Nandroid probably got botched so I restored it again and had the same issue. I tried to reflash CM7.2 and also tried to reflash CM10 and get the "assert failed: run_program (tmp/kernel_check) ==0 (status 7)" error on both. I have tried repeatedly redownloading both zip files and attempted reflash with the same error. Obviously rebooting the phone and trying Wi-Fi fixer do absolutely nothing. I would either like to stay on CM7.2 OR give CM10 another try but cannot flash either zip with the CM7 patched BSR. If I can have the Wi-Fi fixed on CM7.2 then great, if I can be on CM10 with working Wi-Fi even better, but I would like to be able to get this fixed WITHOUT having to do another SBF...flashing it to Cricket is a PITA and I can only do the flash on 2.3.5 since that is the only version that gives the "PC Mode" option for USB connection. Factory Reset is not an issue with me, I just want things working properly. Any and all help is as usual GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Err, you couldn't have been on 2.3.5 and CM7 before. That and CM10 are 2.3.4 ROMs. If you sbf'd to 2.3.5 then your only options are stock ROM or eclipse 2.3
Sounds like you need to sbf back to 2.3.4

You are correct, they are ROMS that need to be flashed from 2.3.4, but I didn't flash, I restored a Nandroid backup. I started on 2.3.4, flashed CM7, used that for a while, then flashed CM10 over CM7, then did SBF to 2.3.5 and then restored a Nandroid back to my CM7. As I stated above, I can only get my phone onto Cricket from 2.3.5 as that is the only version of android that has the "PC Mode" option when connecting to computer with USB, that is the ONLY connection mode that can be used to network flashing. If I SBF back to 2.3.4 I might be able to flash a new ROM but then I won't be able to do the network flash myself, I will have to take it to cricket which I would prefer not to have to do.

You can not restore a nandroid from one kernel to another without having problems even with wiping. You can try to flash the Mx2 versions they don't ask for the kernel check but you might still have problems on 2.3.5.

Yeah I started to think that that could have been the issue, that it was still running the 2.3.5 kernel. Well I saw no other option so I decided to SBF back to 2.3.4, and it somehow now has the PC Mode option, so I can do the Cricket flash on that now. Weird that it didnt have that option the last time I did the SBF. Guess it should work now, will post a final update once I get the Cricket flash and CM10 reflashed.
Stick with 2.3.4 for Cm7, definitely if that is what your Nandroid is from. 2.3.5 is so limited as to what is developed for it.

Yeah I got it all figured out, gonna run CM9. I've reflashed to Cricket so many times by now I can do it in 5 minutes or less lol. Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah, I've been using it for 2 solid days now and other than a little battery drain and the very occasional random reboot I would say it's running really good. I'm just sick of Gingerbread and after trying CM10 I decided I won't be going that route until a couple more alphas are released.
