CAN ANYONE COOK WINDOWS ROM FOR HTC DROID???
PLEASE LET KNOW IS IT POSSIBLE OR NOT?? IF YES THEN HOW...?
There is a windows7.apk out there, that is used as the launcher it looks pretty damn close to windows. and has some cool features
I don't know why you would want to do this, but if these phones are anything like a real computer (which it seems they are) then I doubt a Windows mobile OS Rom could be made for it. Its just cause it simply lacks the support for the hardware. I could be wrong tho.

Just a joke, but my initial impression of that picture was that it was either a steaming pile of **** or a nuclear explosion being fiercely blown sideways by the wind.
Seriously, though, last I read Microsoft is officially developing Windows 8 to also run on ARM processors. I'm sure not the Eris' ARM v6, but...
In other news, BlueStacks is out in Alpha, which will allow synchronizing and using Android Apps on a Windows 7 PC/tablet. Downloaded, but haven't tested yet.

I personally think having the option of running windows phone 7 on the Vibrant would be freakin' awesome, but god only knows what a nightmare porting it over would be (and I'm not even a dev). Anyway, it just struck me as a cool idea, and I was wondering what any devs or user had to say bout it. Basically my question is, is it possible? And if so, how hard would it be?

Personally I'm done with windows mobile. They've had years to improve it and another 3 years to revamp the Windows mobile 6 platform to get it to even slightly compete with either iPhone OS or Android, and look here.....nothing happened. Mini version of Windows with a tiny start menu has just not been the way to go....stubborn bastards.
Whatever I've seen of Windows phone 7 has been disappointing so far because it seems to affected/infected by Bing. I'll decide on things myself thank you very much Microsoft. Windows on a laptop on the other hand = FTW.

well-said.
That wil never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever happen ever. Windows CE kernel is closed source, everything in the WP7 environment is closed source, so unless we make some compatibility magic... Or maybe one of our pirates can go into the MS headquarters and steal some source/documentation....... It will never happen. And aside from getting it to start up, the GSM modem and other radios will not work, nothing else will work, and it will just be a big pain in the ass.
You're not alone. I would love to boot WM 6.5 on my Vibrant and have it magically work. Hell, maybe even that ****ty iOS 4. Or how bout webOS! THAT would be nice, with the multitasking and such...

LOL and while you're there, ask him for the entire set of Windows 7, WP7 and Xbox 360 software documentation, and ask for a copy of the source code for every single project at Microsoft, including the Xbox 360's security methods. You could easily call me a Google fanboy, but when it comes down to Google vs. Bing, they really arent that different. What is it about Bing that you dislike so much?
And as for WP7 itself, I dont plan on switching from Android but Ive got a Zune HD, and it easily has one of the best UI's around. WP7 is really a Zune phone when it comes down to it. I know Id love to try it out.
http://www.androidcentral.com/dell-reportedly-release-android-version-venue-pro
Interesting indeed! Don't see this happening too often, manufacturers releasing the same phone with different OS.
Lol, yeah I just heard about that. This could explain why they haven't released many details about the Venue Pro while all the other manufacturer's phones have already been reviewed.
BTW, where is that Asus phone!? It was sexy as hell.
Whilst they may release a similar phone with Android, it won't be identical because it won't have the Windows Phone hardware keys. It will effectively be a different model, even if the differences are subtle.
But Android is a festering abortion anyway.

Well it is. It tried to be an iPhone but has ended up being a WM6.5. And it's made by an Advertising Vendor.
Isn't this just the "Thunder" that we've known about for months and months. The one that Engadget gave a preview of some time ago. I'll dig up some links...:
Thunder was revealed in April: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/21/dell-thunder-explodes-android-with-4-1-inch-oled-screen-promise/
They got their hands on it in August: http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/19/exclusive-dell-thunder-prototype-preview-video/
I've seen this story pop up on a few sites, and none of them have realised we already knew about this...
Just another flavor of Android. Not too interesting. I am ready for some WP love... on second thought that sounds gross. I am really excited for the Dell Venue Pro w/ WP& though.
Interesting comments...but I have to differ...I was using and cooking WM 6/6.5 for years, and have used it for years. But switching to Android has been a complete breathe of fresh air...it's leaps and bounds ahead of WM in my opinion.
it needs webos and then it would be the best phone out in the market

Windows Mobile was never a crappy OS, it just had an unintuitive UI. JUst like other people have said, it's probably still the most feature packed OS available.

The locked bootloader is the reason for this. That is also why you are seeing the developer migration from HTC to Samsung.
Look at the OG Droid. That thing had tons of dev support. I, for one would love to see Papa Google take webtop and use it as a launchpad for Chrome OS. That would be awesome.

I fired up webtop for the first time today and while there is a "betaness" to it I'm very impressed. I am probably going to buy a small, beautiful Samsung television to run this on and start incorporating its use more and more.
Shabby, you seem knowledgeable, maybe you could tell me...
1. Can we extend USB ports with a port expander?
2. Do you know of any printing solutions? I know Kodak won't play with Linux but I'm pretty sure HP is in, so perhaps plug and play? But if so...I don't know of any Android office suites that even have a printing option.
Also, sorry for posting off topic, but my questions are directly related to your statements.

USB hubs are supported. I've even had 120GB ext HDD full of videos connected via a hub, granted it took forever to index but it worked.

https://plus.google.com/100838276097451809262/posts/VDkV9XaJRGS
BTW, for the TL;DR crowd, here's the money quote:
"...on iOS all UI rendering occurs in a dedicated UI thread with real-time priority. On the other hand, Android follows the traditional PC model of rendering occurring on the main thread with normal priority."

The point he makes where you can test it yourself is brilliant.
Despite the source of the article, it did seem like a pretty good read to me and offered some decent insight as to why my Rezound, despite being essentially a flagship device, still can't match the feel of iOS. Not that I care too much, I've become accustomed to it, and it would only be frosting on the cake if they could make it so Android had that 1-to-1 feel that was mentioned.
Androids UI threads do not run at high priority like iOS and windows phone. You can read about this almost anywhere. Touching the screen on an iphone immediately halts all processing and only the display get's access to do work, so the experience is -always- fluid, at the cost of stopping all 'actual' work being done.
ICS will be better with multi-core support, but will still attempt to do work in parallel with screen updates.
But honestly, I never see any of this 'stuttering', or at least, It doesn't bother me very much if it is happening because I don't notice it.
Apple has always focused on the visuals of their products more than the actual functionality. Doesn't make it better or worse, just different. If ultra smooth transitions between things are a critical point for you, then you want an Apple device. If you prefer to focus on functionality then you probably want an android device. Just because a UI doesn't flow 100% smooth doesn't ruin the experience for me. For others it might. Google is not blind to the issue, they will eventually work it out, but for now we have what we have.
I really appreciate you posting this article as it easily explains the one big problem I've had with Android. Don't get me wrong though I have and always will continue to have an Android phone. Customization trumps fluidity. Google will correct the issue eventually as mentioned above.

Knowing this makes me feel better about my phones and not quite so concerned with it. It actually makes perfect sense and maybe in a way makes our phones more capable.
I wonder if they will re write android to fix this and act more like ios. Maybe for android 5 lol. Doesn't Microsoft totally re write their is at some points. I'm pretty sure win7 has no win95 code in it at all.

You just compared apples to oranges. Windows 8 will be MS first cross platform attempt. Which would be like comparing Chrome to Android.
Sadly even ICS doesn't solve this issue at all. Seems the route they're taking are huge hardware bumps in hopes that it will solve the issue. Good hardware cannot cover up faulty coding. I hope Google fixes it soon.
faulty coding? it's faulty because it runs differently from iOS? please, dude. it doesn't prioritize UI because it can ACTUALLY multitask, unlike iOS. that's the point. if you want a super smooth phone, leave android.
Dude we all love android here.. but if something is screwey then its screwey..no need to go Apple fanboi on us LOL
Are you talking to me? Lol.its not faulty. it's how the phone and operating system were created. If you don't like it, that doesn't mean it's faulty. Seriously?

Good evening everyone! Long time Lurker, first time poster here. First and foremost, I need to say thanks to all the developers and contributors that make this site everything that it is. Thank you!!!!
Now lets get some Ubuntu running! The files and instructions are found in an app on the market, "Ubuntu installer". The links provided in the app are all still good, validated tonight. I was running cleanrom 1.2 the first time I tried, and I can vouch that cleanrom is capable of booting Ubuntu via terminal. This part was surprisingly easy.
Next part is making this useful! Mhl on cleanrom 1.2 worked great. So here I am throwing Ubuntu to a 50" flatscreen with no convenient user interface. I tried installing gmote server on the virtual Ubuntu. Fail. Linux newb. I try andromouse (gmote alternative). The program is an executable .jar file, this I can handle. Andromouse launches, the android device I was using as the remote doesn't detect the server or tunnel in with the provided ip. Fail.
Here I load up joelz cm9 alpha. I lose mhl, but want to see how Ubuntu plays with 4.0. Ubuntu runs noticably faster! Also, for whatever reason, andromouse server was detected by my other android device. For a brief moment I basked in the glory of remote controlling a virtual desktop environment running on my phone. Then I wanted mhl support, flashed back to an old backup of cleanrom, and now nothing works. Unzipping the Ubuntu image again right now for a fresh start.
Potential uses? 1. Having a computer anywhere there is an HDMI in & second android device for mouse/keyboard. 2. Run a virtual Ubuntu server on your android to act as a host server for multiplayer gaming (is this possible?) 3. ????
I love Ubuntu! This would be awesome!

I got the http://www.amazon.com/Innocell-4000mAh-Extended-Life-Battery/dp/B005C3MTHC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top/185-8507412-8298340
and i have to say the battery quality is amazing
after conditioning the battery with the usual ways and benchmarking it, i found i could run it at on demand for govenor or performance all day with a max speed of 1.5 ghz without a problem with about 50% left after 3 PM, granted i get up at 6 AM and then my phone goes to roaming for about 6-7 hours after that so battery drain is pretty high. Now if i do the above with the stock battery im looking at my phone being dead by 3PM
the expanded batteries are worth it even if ubuntu for android isnt out yet, they allow you to really make your phone a performance device
I couldn't find if they announced when they are releasing this.... Does any one know?

no. the email I got from them regarding the beta of it said they wanted to work with mobile operators and manufacturers first to get it out...
I dont know what pepsekola is talking about to be honest...as its not released to the public. I can only guess they are speaking of the already present workarounds other users have worked on in the past thus far.
there is the sign up page for info and such, but as you can tell by the heading even they are only interested in working with Handset maker or network operator's currently...
