[Q] HTC Legend started to forget the date and time - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
This weekend I dropped my HTC Legend. Now it works fine except the clock. When I switch off the phone and took out the battery it forgets the time and date . I do not know what might be the reason for that. I do not think it is something software. Looks more like hardware problem. Does somebody knows what is the problem and if there is solution for this?
thanks,
Asen

Hi, I wonder if these new modern phones still need an internal backup battery for the time function? just like a computer.
You say you dropped you phone, maybe the backup battery has broken loose inside?
someone will have to confirm if these things still need an internal backup batery.

Yeah. I just wonder the same. Unfortunately I cannot find a service manual for HTC Legend in the net. If someone could help, I will appreciate.
Regards!

I found another issue that go along with this one. My phone started to charge the battery very slow. It cannot charge from 0 to 100 % for 10 hours. It charges about 72 %. Everything else seems to work good! Any ideas?

The only thing i can think of is some internal damage after the drop.
maybe time for new phone, sorry.

I use https://market.android.com/details?id=ru.org.amip.ClockSync
to syncronise time and date when my phone loses current date/time

Thanks for the app. Work Perfect and it solved my problem for the moment. I will send it for repair as it is still in warranty.
Cheers!

I heard that there is a spare hardware in phones like a mini battery, it supply energy when your main battery is dead. IT might be the problem of this thing

Does Downgrading back to 1.6 or changing the battery solve the overheats and restarts

Not gunna go into much detail here. I'm sure most people have heard o the motherboard bug which causes the sony ericsson to over heat and reboot as soon as it is turned on and things like that. This problem only started for me when I updated to 2.1. Would downgrading to 1.6therefore stop the reboots because I never got even 1 before. Would changin the battery to a diferent one stop overheating o the battery. Maybe there is a battery specialized or this. Maybe a mugen battery would work? Help greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
I dont think so, i had the same problem and tried everything, last thing was getting the new one, and now i can do anything, and no reboot, i think u should go to SonyEricson and tell them about your problem, they will give you back your phone for about 3 times, then when your problem still persist they will give you a new device or they will change motherboard,
Good Luck (and sorry for bad english ^_^)
Out of Warranty Cant be bothered to explain why. Getting it repaired would cost a lot. CoulD I repair it myself?
your best bet it to use advanced task killer app
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
I do use that app but 90 percent of the time I cant get my phone on long enough to even think about using it
have you tried reflashing the rom, via repair option on SEUS, or even Flashing a custom rom?
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
yep didnt work
has anyone tried the downgrading or battery change method that can enlighten me as to wheether it will work or not. Or at least significantly reduce the reboots so I can actually use the phone

Yes i think some thing inside the rom could help. One of my friend have X10 with mainboard bug like u. But as i sure in xrecovery it never reboot even you flash a rom sooooo....it should be something inside the room or kernel
sorry i dont really understand what you want me to do :S ????
just downgraded to 1.6. Still rebooting but not as much. Not every minute anymore. It like every few minutes. Im at a loss here there must be something I can do. Warranty and paying to change the motherboard is not an option
I had the same problem, tried everything but my phone only worked when I was using it in cold places, or in front of a fan. The problem started to become worse gradually, it started playing games, then in a few minutes of light use... and then every minute. Had to flash to stock rom in front of a fan to use the warranty.
You cannot do much, unless you use the warranty you'll stand with a dead phone for now.
Isnt there a way I could like open up my phone and do something to it to make it work? There must be something out there that will work.
what if i put the phone and battery in the freezer for a day or a few. maybe it could at least stop the overheating for at leastt a few days? i wouldnt mind doing this every few days

It will work for a few minutes, once your start to use the phone, the battery will start to heat, and then it will reboot once it reach its threeshold.
I highly suggest you to try to repair it in any sony center, or at least check the price to fix it. As far as I know, you can't do anything to at least remedy it. You won't be able to use your phone well. I experienced it and tried everything it came to my mind to at least use the phone well for a few days before I gave up and sent it to the repair center.
Out of warranty and would be like 100 quid to get motherboard replaced. (sorry about caps lock) there must be something that no one has thought of
Of there is of course a problem with asking for solutions that no one has thought of....
Sorry for the cheap shot. I do have sympathy as I have the same issue, although to a much lesser extent. Got a new battery and it made no difference. Went into a phone shop today and had a chat. Although I was not 100% convinced about the guy in there he showed me another X10 that smelled the same as mine and he said it did reboot. Anyway for £15 he says he can reflash the stock ROM using a special box. He seemed convinced it was software related so I may give it a go. It is very strange that I can put the phone into xRecovery when the phone is rebooting and it is stable.
However I think your best bet is to sell your phone and get another. Not sure how much a spares/repairs X10 goes for but I can recommend the ZTE Blade as a good, cheap Android phone with a strong support over a MoDaCo. If you do this you should not be to much out of pocket.
dont really want a different phone. Lilke I said there must be something that someone knows :S
if theres no solution anyone knows, does anyone know where I can buy an xperia 10 PCB so I can dissassemble my phone and change the PCBs myself
Get insurance and lose the phone.

[Q] Touch screen issue?????Video here.

I found out this problem when I was typing on the keyboard(under the Stock rom). It seems like glitch, the screen doesnt response for one or two seconds. After restart it will be good for about one hour, after the hour just as glitch as well. So I replaced the phone in T-mobile, and it just got the same problem as well, even I am using the Quicksense 1.4.1. I hope this is only a software's bug, if not.... I am not sure yet but HTC disappoint me, I got a lot of problems with my every HTC phones.

Thanks for your reply, I did try, but it doesnt works for me, seem like my issue is different because my phone is all good at the first hour after restart.
You should probably swap then, I'm thinking its a defect. Unless anyone else has an idea?
Yes, only thing I can do is replace it, then this is the second replacement in this month. Probably no more HTC for me in the future

HELP!!! TG01 goes into super S-L-O-W mode

Recently my phone started occasionally going into a slow-as-molasses mode where even the simplest task takes 20-30 secs to complete. Of course this makes the phone completely unusable. If I'm on a call and it happens it just turns itself off mid-call or sometimes automatically reboots but the reboot takes forever and the problem is still there. I end up having to take the battery out for a few seconds then it will work normally until the next episode. I have the CPU set to the max speed so normally it's fine. Also, I have a triple battery set-up so there is usually plenty of juice left when this happens. I have no idea what is triggering this and luckily it only happens occasionally. I'm using fxdjacentyfxd's excellent 6.5 ROM and having no other problems. If anyone has a solution or workaround or has experienced this please advise.
Thanks & Merry Christmas!
If the phone is getting hot I have bad news for you. It might be procesor. The one we have is in HD2 and xperia x10 if i remmeber well. The HD2 and same xperia x10 had a big problem overheating and rebooting whille talking , sms-ing, music listening, multitasking... I hope that isn't case for you. Haven't heard yet that someone had broken CPU around here on tg01. P.S. flash new ROM
I have this problem myself with my TG. The only solution it was Miro8 rom in my case. It is because your carrier.

The phone is not getting hot. Removing the battery then reinstalling it always fixes the problem (so far). I may have to do a hard (master) reset if the problem persists as I realize that one of the problems with Windows Mobile is it is prone to occasionally getting corrupted, at least in my experience with custom WM 6.0 ROM on my HTC 8525 over three years.

Any idea how the carrier can cause the problem? I've had the same carrier for 5 years including several months with the TG01 and never had this problem before.
yeah, its a WinMo issue
the software gets corrupted.
I faced this issue on my older WinMo devices. best bet is to hard reset!

In my case the carrier has two separate network (one for 2G and one for 3G), but it is certain that if i use the phone under that carrier it works as you described!
I put another sim (from another carrier) and the phone work great! So i identify the problem as beeing created by the carrier network or phone radio!
But i tried diferent radio and the result was that no mather the radio version I use the phone get slow in Cosmote network (the carrier I speak of).
Hi, I had exactly the same problem about one year ago.
Used to work the 'hard reset' stuff but in a days it slows down again and again.
I checked my SD card on the PC and looked like it was working fine, but it really wasn't. I had the final clue by using by a few days the phone without the SD... It worked just fine without sd.
So I decided to buy a ultra cool (an expensive BTW) SDHC class 10 and every problem with TG01 was solved!
Well, not every problem... Still having a little one with the GPS signal and the 3G data but it's not about the same thing.. but i'll still reading post here. Just forgot about this problem cause I was using some cooked roms from this place, but I had to return to the Movistar ES original in order to unlock the phone and now... you know, just don't work anymore. If I can't finx this **** with the original rom I'll go back to another coocked one.
Good luck!

Greetings from Thailand, kijotex! Hadn't considered the SD card as the possible problem. Mine is a 16GB Class 6 and seems to work fine. Did you check your SD card for errors or reformat it before buying the new card? I've used the same card in my previous phone, an HTC 8525/Hermes without problems (that I know of).
Thanks for responding & Happy New Year!

So you solve the problem with S-L-O-W think?
How did you solve it?
what was wrong?
I ask you because in my case only after switching the carrier I could use the phone again!

I backed up everything on the phone late the other night and was going to hard/master reset it the next morning but got called out of town and didn't do it. I did swap out my custom triple-battery pack and went back to my original Toshiba battery for a day. Surprisingly, the phone worked normally so re-installed the triple battery pack and it has been working 'normally' since then. I have no idea why. Between the quirks in Windows Mobile and the TG01 quirks I just never know what this phone is going to do next. If/when the s-l-o-w mode problem shows up again I'll hard/reset it and post again.
Cheers...

I finally did the master-clear this week as the phone was getting completely unusable. That seems to have helped tremendously but the phone went into the SLOW mode again today and I had to reboot it 2 or 3 times before it finally was normal. I had just played the Tiger Woods golf game on it for about 30 minutes so wonder if that didn't contribute somehow. I then went into Toshiba Power settings and unchecked the Reduce CPU speed if low battery box even though immediately after playing the game the battery meter showed 70%, but we all know how buggy that is.
My phone was getting screwed up because the case (actually a thin sleeve) was too tight and it allowed buttons to get mashed while it was in my pocket. This may not have been a problem except I had the Lock function disabled. Over time that random button pushing definitely corrupted WM6.5 just like it had done to my old HTC 8525. I'm now using a 2.5" USB external hard drive case until I can find a better fitting one.
I think I finally solved the problem. [crosses fingers] The Master Clear helped with some of the problems, but didn't cure the random S-L-O-W mode. I ended up reinstalling the same ROM and so far the phone is working flawlessly. I'm guessing that WM6.5 became corrupted over time and that was the culprit. I also had the phone Lock disabled and that continually caused buttons to get accidentally pressed while bicycling and/or jogging and speed walks. I personally feel the buttons need a bit more spring tension, especially the Sleep/Lock button on the left hand side. The Lock is enabled now so hopefully that will help.

In case it may be of interest, I have been using the Capdase leather sleeve case for a long time now without any issues. Nice red microfibre lining and pull tab to extract the phone easily. This UK supplier says no longer available, but most likely there are some about if you search a bit.
Best regards,

Hi Kevin,
Nice to 'hear' from you again and thanks for the tip. I'm using the Mugen back cover for their 2600 mAh battery, although with my custom battery pack. The phone is now about 1/2"(17mm) thick. Do you think this Capdase sleeve will fit?
I'm also glad you answered as I was about to post a new thread or PM you with a question about cooking my own phone config into a custom ROM. After just having to reinstall all of my add-ons, customized SPB GUI, etc., twice while trying to fix this problem, I'm now thinking about backing up everything with a custom ROM. That way if I have to reinstall the ROM I won't have to spend another couple of days getting the phone config back to where it was. I've perused the TG01 kitchen thread but confess I'm still confused about how to do it. And since 99.9% of my stuff is installed on the microSD card will the new custom ROM be able to access that existing data?
Finally, I have to say this phone continues to amaze me (when WM isn't acting up). I just can't see any benefit to 'upgrading' to WP7 like many have done, possibly bricking the phone in the process, or trashing the SDcard, etc. as it just doesn't seem worth it. Now I admit that the reason I bought this phone last year was to install Android, but after having a Viewsonic G-Tablet for a few months with a custom Gingerbread 2.3 ROM installed on it I just gave the tablet back (to my buddy) as it was so freakin' buggy. Bottom line is I'm not so impressed with Android at this point, especially custom ROMs. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I look forward to your sage advice.
Cheers!
Jim
Well... It appears the TG01 show is over
My TG01 has now gone into permanent S-L-O-W mode and I can't get it out of it. I've soft reset it probably 20-25 times, even yanked the battery out while it's still on hoping to shock the system. Did this many times and it didn't make any difference. I even left the battery out all night last night hoping for a miracle this morning. Of course, no change. I'm afraid to try to reinstall the ROM again as it probably couldn't complete the task before the battery runs down. As it is now I can't even make a call as it simply goes so slow it won't even connect, so if I can't find a solution soon the TG01 is going into the trash bin. During the past 3 weeks I have spent way too many hours trying to resolve this problem and have simply run out of ideas and patience. I also Googled it and a few people have had the exact same problem but no one has posted a solution.
If anyone has a tip or suggestion please advise.
tg01 getting slower
In my case the issue was fully solved by: reformatting sd card (full format) and reflashing the ROM. No freezings since I did it 2 months ago. So, I would say it's either your sd card or your ROM. A hardware failure is also possible but it worth trying before throwing your tg01 in the trash Good luck!

Hi mikiril,
Thanks for the fast response. I've tried everything including reflashing the ROM and even that only worked for a few days. I've been researching the problem again this morning and found the problem and a temporary solution. The problem is device.exe is running wide open using between 95%-100% of CPU cycles. A French TG01 website says it has something to do with clicking on the Restrict Sleep Mode button in the Toshiba Power Saving Settings menu, which I had done at some point, but later went back and unchecked it. Their 'solution' is to activate both Bluetooth and WiFi then turn them off. I confirm that does work until the next bootup or Soft Reset. Maybe there's something in the registry that can undo whatever clicking on Restrict Sleep Mode has done. At least the phone is working at normal speed again, temporarily, so I have a little bit of hope.
Thanks!

[Q] Phone keeps shutting down

Hi guys.
My phone shuts down at random moments. I can boot it up again by holding the power button for about 10 seconds. Sometimes, not always, the phone feels hot and batterylife dropped. I have been struggling with this problem ever since i got this phone. I hoped to solve it with installing a new kernel and rom. I am now on Slimbean 3.1.0. The phone was initially on XLQ6 4.0.4. This didn't change anything, unfortunately.
I have also tried:
- removing external SD
- placing a new battery (which has no room to move, in case anyone suggests the battery might be moving)
- wiping caches
The strange thing is that my friend has bought his i9100 together with mine in the same order. He is also on XLQ6 and is experiencing the same issues. Less often than me, however.
My smalband is still on XLQ6. Is it possible that this causes my problems? Or is it more likely that my friend and me simply bought phones from a bad batch or something (hardware related)? I really don't want to send back my phone. That is my absolute last resort.
EDIT: Problem solved! Installing the application "Load Monitor" and enabling the "wake lock" function has done the trick. No more shutdowns or reboots!
Anyone?
2 devices with the same issue?
I'd be at the store where I bought it right now.
I will do that when I am absolutely sure that it is hardware related. However, if anyone has a potential solution I would really like to solve this issue myself.

Same with me. change from 4.0.4 WLPT to 4.0.4 WLPY but problem still presists.
Does anyone know if changing smalband (if that is possible?) could make a difference? Because that is the only similarity to the original state of my phone. A lot of AT&T users in the USA experienced the same problems also with 4.0.4. However, nobody can come up with a solution.

Because I don't like to lose my phone for a couple of weeks. And I prefer to fix these things myself. I have seen so many topics about this on XDA and Google. There must be a solution to it.
Is it possible that these problems are caused by my modem? That is the only unchanged thing since I have had this phone.
I might have found a possible solution. I've read something on a Dutch forum about sim-cards causing these issues. So I have placed a new sim-card and the problem hasn't appeared in the last 3 days. Before that, the problem was occuring about 3-6 times in one day. It's too early to say this has solved my problem, but it definitely made a difference so far. If it keeps functioning perfectly for the next couple of days I will close this topic.
Symptoms were merely reduced. Phone still shuts down approximately each 2 days. Much better than it was before though. Why would a sim-card change reduce, but not solve the problem? This is starting to hurt my brain.

You may experience sleep of death. What WiFi chipset do you have? I had the same issue on a Murata Wi-Fi chipset.
Yup, Murata chipset. I've googled some more on SoD. I have now installed an app called "Load Monitor" and enabled Wake Lock in preferences. This should prevent the phone from going into deep sleep, apparantly.
Some portugal carrier had a problem with lte sim card or something like that.
I really don't see how a sim card can actually mess with a phone.
Maybe the enabling of some features screws it up.

In my case Samsung Service Team replaced the motherboard. My new MB has a Samsung Electronics wifi chipset. Two weeks now and no SoD.
That sounds good. However, ever since I have installed Load Monitor my phone runs fine. It drains approximately 40% of my entire battery, but it lasts easily until the end of the day.
But again, I shouldn't get too excited. Sim-card change seemed to work in the first few days as well.
Will be continued...
It has been over a week since I have installed Load Monitor. My phone hasn't shut down once. Problem appears to be solved! I hope more people will read this topic, because I have seen a lot of desperate people during my search to a solution.
The only disadvantage is the battery usage of the application. I now have approximately 40-50% at the end of the day instead of 60-70%.

Clock & Date jumping crazy after removing the battery

Hi guys, I need your help please: I am using a HTC HD2 with WM6.5 stock ROM (RUU_Leo_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.14.707.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe) and nearly everytime I disconnect the battery the clock and date are jumping to another random value, sometimes even a week or two before the current date, time as well to any possible value.
Disconnecting the battery is unavoidable since the phone is sometimes completely freezing with black screen during a call and I cannot stop it in any other way but by disconnecting the battery. This might happen even once in 3 to 5 days. Besides that horrible locking, setting again the date and time is quite unpleasant.
As experiment I have removed the sim, powwered off the phone and the date and time stayed correct even after several days.
Anybody else having the same problem with clock and date while removing the battery?
Any solution somebody can share with me, please?
Thank you!

My friend Maybe The Problem Is Related To HD2's Board Which Doesn't Have BIOS CLOCK Battery To Save Date And Time But You Can Try Android Or WPH Or Other Windows Mobile ROMs Like Energy / Artemis and etc. That May Help Avoid Freezes ...

The problem is that the internal tiny battery is dead so when you pull out the battery you reset the clock and even the date to original state. The problem with the call stuck can be solved very easily, just flash a newest Stock WM 6.5.2. But I will suggest to install Android and you will revive the HD2 and you do not believe what you can do again with you phone. Sorry to say but I can't believe you stay on WM6.5 this days, WM6.5 die long time ago.
Thank you guys for answering me.
What tiny bios battery are you talking about, this is a phone not a PC??? I've never heard on any smartphone about coin battery!!!
OK, I might be interested to try the Energy ROM, if you think that it will solve the problem, but what is exactly the element that will repair the bug that I am talking about? Which means anyway at the end of the day that this is a software (ROM) problem and not a hardware problem.
I have to stay with WM for certain compatibility issues, but I use the phone only for voice calls, SMS and mail, what else do I need a phone with small screen for? For the other things I have the Android tablet, I own also an Android new phone, so that's why I intend to keep WM6.5x on my HD2, it does the job.
And nobody answered if meeting the same problem on his WM6.5 HD2 phone. Is this a wellknown native HD2 problem?
Thanks again......
My friend, HD2 it a hell old device dinosaur with prehistoric hardware. Already the device have 5 years from the first release. All recent phones have a tiny battery inside to keep up clock and date and it's normal after all this years a kind of battery like that can die. Search before post.
Also your OS is compromise so if you format the phone and install new Rom this will fix and help the phone to work properely so you will not have freezings and yes is not hardware related. For the end is not a native problem, is random and for such a old phone is normal to have some problems.

Thank you eclyptos! I take it that the photo is of an opened HD2.
If so, the solution to my clock & date problem is to replace that battery with a new one, isn't it? That is if not hard-soldered on the board. Is this an easy to find battery? I will open my HD2 one of these days. So far for the battery.
As for the freezing, the solution is to flash again the ROM, preferable a customized ROM, right?
Thank you again!
you could first try changing radio version as 2.15.50.14 (test one from my signature) was known to cause call drops & hanging in some roms including original released nbh updates.
if radio does not resolve it then going to latest HTC rom or a good custom rom should resolve it. Energy is good, I use an older Energy build as better compatibility to software we use, CleanEX is another good custom rom worth looking at.
All links including 2 links to older solid performing energy roms & the thread main links can be found in the HD2 Wiki
As for the time issue, if not resetting completely to original date when device was new it could be a bug as a few roms had this issue (even energy custom rom does), is also possible the time battery on mainboard is dead but have 7+ year old htc devices that still work fine so would suggest checking the cell for power reading with a good multimeter. Although if you get a good solid WM rom the time issue will not be a burden as will hardly if ever need pull battery & battery pulling should be a last resort only used if pushing & holding the soft reset pin fails to restart the device.
Well

My friend ... Replacing the battery isn't an easy task you know ? It deals with the phone's sensitive motherboard ... so I don't recommend to replace it yourself ... just prevent having freezes by switching the ROM ... ( Thats the best way )

Yes, is true. You will never find the battery to replace yours, first of all, second the battery is welded to mainboard.

Disconnecting the battery is unavoidable since the phone is sometimes completely freezing with black screen during a call and I cannot stop it in any other way but by disconnecting the battery.

Below the battery cover there is a little reset button which reboots the phone. Use this instead of pulling the battery. Don't use a sharp object (damage), nor a pen or pencil (frequent use can cause build up of deposits). Pulling the battery and replacing frequently can bend the battery pins.
Hope this helps
Edit; oops, Mister B has already mentioned this, i missed it first reading.
