I’m running CM7 nightly 111 and thought I’d post my radio tests.
Now these tests were done with the speedtest.net app so take this with a grain of salt you hard core network junkies. For the common folk like myself, the speedtest app is good enough.

Crap you are right, my bad.
So there doesn't appear to be much difference between the three...
Has anyone seen John Connor?
I noticed on EHO3 I haven't had to toggle airplane mode on MTD ROMs as much as ED05, data just works, only had to toggle it twice since EHO3's release

Ditto. Not had a single toggle since EH03.
I won't use ED05, for me it seems to drop to 1x and stay there too much. EC09 and EH03 are pretty close for me, but the latter seems to have a more steady transfer. I use the "Network Speed" app and watch while downloading the same file with different modems.

Does this have anything to do with the GPS's ability to lock on? I can't get a sweet lock for the life of me. Its only triangulation by cell towers. That was the purpose of my little test. To see if I can get a radio that helps the GPS.

Man just the opposite for me. I tried EH03 and constantly had to toggle especially after a reboot. ED05 runs almost perfect for me. Just goes to show all devices work differently.
These radios are all pretty good, remember the measurements are in bits, not bytes. The difference is actually pretty negligible.
No on remembers back on eclair with the radios that had 50% time without signal at all
I'm having opposite results on CM7 nightly 102. EC09 is consistently 1000kbps+ down, ~800 up, while EH03 is in the 800s down, 700s up, all tests with <90ms ping.
pretty consistent 2100 kbps down and 915 kbps up on eh03 here.
ec09 was all over the place every time I ran the test....but hit about the same down speeds of approx 2000-2100 kbps and up speeds of 800-900kbps
oh...and on nightly 112 atm.

Where I can get full signal bars -70ish db, I can pull 2-2.2mb down on ec09. The problem is I very seldom get full signal, so on average I see 1-1.3mb down. Bottom line is, not every device will respond the same to each modem. Some have great results on ed05... my device always bounced in and out of 1x. eh03 has less 1x issues than ed05, but data speeds are a bit slower than ec09 for me.

When it looks like its taking forever to lock in, reboot the phone and you will get insta lock again.

I'm torn on what to do now. Initially I did the Sprint upgrade to the new rom and then flashed DCD 3.0 kitchen. was having lots of stability issues and slow data speeds(half of what I had with 3.27 radio). To isolate the problem I went back to the new stock Sprint rom. More stable now but slow data speeds on average again of half what I had before. Before with 1 bar I got 700k ish down now I get about 350. Anybody been able to solve this? faster gps lock is nice(suspect it's now using cell tower in combination more efficiently since I get even initial lock deep inside buildings) but don't think that will offset slower data speeds. Think it is same PRL too. 60711 I think. thanks for any help on this.

Did you turn on rev A.? I think sprint forgot that one little detail. I know some...myself included...had to do it manually.
how did you do it manually? I have my msl and everything just don't know where that setting is. thx.
I JUST read another thread over at pdaphone home that said on PPCGeeks they recommend that you leave the rev A setting as "Disable"...since its supposed to already be on. People have reported big jumps in speed when it is set to Disable.
To check: ##778# > if you dont have your MSL then just view it > select data parameters...I think.
tried it both enabled and disabled after soft reset. not much difference. still about half of what I used to get. may go back to 2.3.2 and 3.27 radio as I didn't have many problems with that other than slow gps lock. Would be great to have best of both worlds though
The one thing that helped me most was changing my DNS to OpenDNS.
Also; Speedtest sites seem to be TOO FAST for the browser to handle the data, so to do a reliable test try tethering the phone or use wmwifirouter. In my case my phone usually says it's getting around 350, but when I tether it actually turns out to be between 1000 and 1800.
FWIW; I use the dsl reports speed test to check the speed.
You could of course also make yourself a nice 10Mb file and test the speed manually.
Changing the Rev.A setting does NOT make a difference, if anything it makes it slower. Leave it as it is.
I am on Sprint. I am using wmwifirouter v.91 and using speakeasy's speedtest which consistently used to give me 800-2000K(sometimes over 2meg), With new radio struggling to reach 500K. By opendns do you mean 4.2.2.2? haven't tried that. suspect it would make a difference for latency/lookup speed but not so much for data throughput right?
To compare, we should all use the same test and browser. So use PIE for real world results (Opera uses a proxy) and I've found the www.mobilespeedtest.com has a better test than DSLReports.
Anybody have an even better alternative besides tethering?

I have to disagree about the accuracy of each site... I have a full T1 at my disposal, and mobilespeedtest.com churned out the following:
Your current bandwidth reading is:

I would go with dslreports. ymmv

DSL reports only tests 1 file size at a time and the smaller files always fail. We need to find a better option.
Edit: I've got a 6MB connection, DSL reports first said it was 1.9MB but then failed on 3 subsequent tries (too fast).
Mobilespeedtest gave me 277.40kbps first try 749.30kbps second.
So you're right.

I second that.
I tried mobilespeedtest.com yesterday while connected to a 6meg line...speed was rediculously low didnt break 500k. Tried speakeasy.net...I got 5.9 meg.
Just got 225kbps on dslreports 1meg file and 559kbps on mobilespeedtest with 3.35 radio and stock new Sprint rom on sprint network in rev A area 2 bars(not that great of signal but used to get double this speed at same location with 3.27 Radio)
I keep running into this problem. If I try running any version of EC10 voodoo kernel my data signal drops from two bars to zero when in use, and speedtest speeds are very low, and every other time I do a speed test it comes up with -0 on the download speed and skips right over it. If I switch back to the EB16 kernel it stays more consistent at two bars and speed tests seem quicker. I've tried different radios DL09 and higher and they don't make a difference.
Does anyone else see this or have an idea what could be causing this? I hate to keep using older kernels but right now they give better results.

I found that signal seems to be a lot more stable on any of the AOSP based roms (MIUI, CM6, AOSP).
I have flashed the new Radio that JCase posted for the GB RUU. Flash 3 different roms based off this including JCASE stock. But on all of them i am only getting a Download speed of 3mbs instead of my normal 18MB+...
Wiped/Factory Reset/Wiped Cache/Wipe Dalvik multiple times before flashing and still not work, even flashed the radio over just incase, but still seems throttle.
Is everyone seeing this? Is there a throttle in place on this ROM?
Any help would be appreciated.

What are you using to test your speeds? The speedtest app will report around 3MB but the speakeasy website shows I'm getting 12MB down/2MB up.
I think the app isn't working well with the new O/S.
I think you should post in the correct section.
Speedtest DOES NOT EQUATE to real performance. It's a test.
Im getting 15-18 down on speakeasy
Have you tested speeds by going to speedtest.net on your phone's browser and doing it? That's usually more accurate.
My market apps are installing at the typical LTE speed as well. They are flying down the pipeline. Even ROM downloads on links from Tapatalk are typical 10-11 MB down LTE rates.
Again I think it's an app thing with the speedtest app.

Sorry. wasnt sure on what section since this relates to the Roms here.
You are correct speedtest is just a test and does not show the real performance just like quadrant doesnt.
I didnt run speedtest until i noticed how long it was taking to download an app which normally it speeds through it Lightening Fast...
But i did run the speadeasy.net and got 18up/5down.
Thanks, Just didnt see anyone else make a comment or post about this any other threads.

I didn't even think to test my 4g speeds - I was too excited about how fast the new ginger-sense roms are running in terms of performance.
I just ran speak easy - I am in Philadelphia and have full 4g most of the time
12.95 down - 4.95 up.
4G speeds are still there. Speedtest app isn't reporting correctly.
How is everyone's battery life doing?
Sorry, but the basic debloat only pulls about 3 megs where I would normally pull 20-28. Doesn't matter where/how I test it. Website, app, and tethered to test on my computer all report 2 to 3 megs.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Try speakeasy.net/speedtest in the browser. I just pulled over 25 down and 8 up on it. The speedtest app just isn't giving accurate results.
speak easy is about the same, but performance is down for me. Market apps are a lot slower and i wasnt able to stream the nba game very well... so real time performance of LTE on the leaked GB radio is def slower for me flashed back to MR1 and streaming is good im sure in a week or 3 there will be a newer leaked GB radio tho. All these "issues" should be expected for new tech like LTE so just be happy with all these early leaks! Most phones go months waiting for what we have gotten in weeks! We def have some extra love from vzw and htc and ours devs!!! (IMO)
Downloads from dropbox and the browser max out at about 400 K which is about 3 Mbit. I noticed this before ever running the speed test app. I am basing my experiences on real world usage not just speed tests. My 4g is absolutely limited to approximately 3Mbit on this radio. As reported by others this is also noticeable in market downloads and in streaming video performance.

Also if you look at the provider speedtest and speakeasy both use OOKLA as the backbone broadband provider so they should produce the same results. If they don't then it is they app. Try doing the test from the Speakeasy website from your phone then from the Speedtest website from your phone. They should both be the same.

I was about to post the same thing lol! Ccompos tweaked the gps configuration in powerwash. I no longer need gps aids to get a instant lock! Even on ed05 radio gps worked good... didnt like the 1x **** all the time so I switched to ec09.
So i've tried searching the forums for relevant info for about a week now and there is always some variable or 4 that makes it hard to determine if it's the cause for my issue. On stock software, my HSPA+ speeds would range from 2mbps (bits not Bytes) to 5 depending. Now i don't go above .35Mbps download. I've been allover the tri-state area with the same results recently so that has killed my thoughts that there may be a signal issue in the area. Here is my info:
Model : SGH-i777 (on AT&T)
Location - Fairfield, CT
Modem - i777UCKH7 (have also used a couple other modems after rooting with same results)
Kernel: 3.0.15-CM-g094e910 ([email protected]) (gcc Version)... sept 24 2012
AOKP Version i777 JB Build 9.224.2012
Android Version 4.1.1
My question is, i've tried various Modems thinking that is really the main place where the issue could occur and i've had the same results: poop data speeds; is it possible that the kernel be another cause of week speeds?i If not that, does any one have any suggestions?
Please help!! thanks
If you've tried different modems with the same results, the only other thing I could think of would be APN settings, which may have changed if you've installed another rom. Kernel should not have any effect on data speeds.

i found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199&highlight=apn+settings and i'm applying them now, hopefully properly. Thanks sir. I'll check back and let you know what i find.
Other than APN settings and modem, the only other thing that I could add is build prop tweaks. There is an app called 3g/4g optimizer that will do that, or values can be set using root explore and text editor.
Edit... those seem like edge or 2g speeds, on cm10 there is a setting for that, it's in settings, wireless and networks, more, mobile networks.
Arg!!!> so i've reset my APN settings and encounter the same problems. Used the suggested 3g/4g optomizer to no avail. in fact i just ended up getting slower upload speeds. this is literally the only thing that's frustrating me in terms of my experience with rooting my phone. everything else has been golden.

Also DONT USE the speed test app as it gives wrong speeds. Use your web browser and go to Speak Easy speed test here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ as it seems to be more accurate.
Some build.prop changes DO effect it as well. Not sure what your settings are but you can change them to see an increase. Shoot me a pm and I can post what and how to change the build.prop that I use if your interested.

did not see the earlier post originally but i have toyed with the 2g settings, testing with settings both on and off just to be sure. with 2g only on, i'm getting half the normal speeds. at .14Mbps down. off i'm pretty consistantly around .30 Mbps down.
about to try something pretty rudimentary... asking ATT if they are throttling my speeds for any reason.

2g? Edge?
there is no "throttle" on Edge, as there is no speed on edge. Im amazed you are able to perform a speed test on edge.
No reason to mess with Edge. Cant run a smartphone on Edge.

Downloading at .30 is edge speed, there is a setting for "use only 2g networks" . I thought that option could have been checked, causing the slowness. If AT&T throttled the phone it would get that slow also.

That cleared it up. Wasnt sure where the 2g part was coming into play.
There are apps, or maybe even codes that can tell you tower info, make sure you've tried different towers.
If you get no difference, flash back to stock, and call at&t.
The use 2g setting will only show the edge icon for signal. Also in settings-about phone-status, there is umts. I think it goes 3,8, and 15 with 15 being the best.
