[Q] Is this a Tegra "error"? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm having something quite annoying with my Atrix 4G.
The problem is that sometimes when I'm playing any Tegra powered game, the phone restarts all alone, it's totally random, it can happen loading a game, sometimes while I'm playing, and sometimes it just don't happen.
I'm worried about this. This mean my Nvidia chipset is broken or it's just something driver/soft related?
How can I fix this?
Regards.
PS: It happened with my official firmware and now with CM7 too.

Quick question---what kernel are you using? Are you using Faux's kernels with both ROMS, and undervolting either? Have you used the v6 supercharger / converted any partitions to ext4?

I have no idea what I'm using, I just see that crash and erase my official firmware and install CM7. I have some android basic knowledge, which no include any kernel subjetcs, I just know how to install ROMs and stuff, but I'm a quick learner.
If you guide me about some possible error it may have I could fix it.
Thanks for your quick response.

I would suggest re-flashing your ROM maybe it's just a bad flash. On the other hand you can just go ahead and flash one of faux123 cm7 kernels and see which one works best for you even the O.C ones you can downclock i notice that issue with kernels mostly.

[Q] question about kernel

hello,
I'm using the official lg rom v2.2.1 that came with the phone. I wanted to update to cm7 but I read about the problem with the BT wich I must have. another thing is that I'm using hebrew and I need it to stay that way.
The thing is that the touch screen is very bad and lags a lot.
If I will upgrade only the kernel what will be the affect on the phone and how do I know what is the best kernel for my version ?
In general I want to fix the touchscreen bug and to OC the phone.
thanks for the help.
If you just want to overcome the touch screen bug then I would suggest using Der_Caveman's Kernel, it is quite old but is usable and removes the touch bug and enables OC.
The kernel wouldn't change any outward appearance of the phone, except maybe increase the quadrant score a bit. If you really want a good performance boost as well then try franco's kernel. Since you are using the stock rom it is recommended to take a nand backup before flashing these kernels. And a kernel doesn't change the system language AFAIK.
Thanks for quick reply. will these two kernels good for froyo 2.2.1 and are there known bugs that I should be aware of before updating ?
As far as read the franco's v18.1 is for 2.3.3...
I have never used Der_Caveman's kernel, but it is bug-free AFAICT. And in the link that I have posted above, franco kernel is available for both froyo and GB. Download the version that says "franco.Kernel v8.1 CFS", it is for froyo.
And as I said earlier, since you are on stock rom it is advisable to take a nand before flashing a custom kernel.
i used dookmatt's kernel which was really good for me(flashed it on stock 2.2.2)...i had no touch lag, no bugs. that would be my recomandation
also dont forget nand backup is holy!

Can I OC with this one ?
OK, I flashed Der_Caveman's Kernel and so far it looks good. the touchscreen is better and I OC to to 729 using setcpu though I cant tell the difference in terms of the speed.
how can I tell if its really 729 and not 600 ?
thanks.
yes my O1 ran at 787 mhz and it was darn stable(at 800+ i had frequent freezes and reboots when launching apps). i also had a friend of mine install this kernel and he's happy with the "new" phone i made
quick system info on market...shows cpu speed
You may look at info tab on SetCPU, it says alot about your device, CPU (frequencies and features), battery and so on.
And you can have SetCPU widget on homescreen as well, which shows current freq, min and max frequencies of the governor you're using

[Q] X10 Overclock question

I know that the overclocking possible is pretty low (I've heard 1.1Ghz is really all it can manage).
But i'd still like to try. I'm running a custom ROM currently and know it involves flashing the kernel.
Does that require a wipe or anything? And are all kernels compatible with custom ROMs? Thanks to anyone to answers..
The only kernel with 1.2Ghz overclock is doomkernel. I used it before at 1.2Ghz and no problems came up as I only use it when I'm playing heavy games.
All kernels should be compatible to all custom ROMs, except for FXP CM7 which requires it's own custom kernel or DoomKernel FXP-CM7 and requires an unlocked bootloader.
The same goes for Luke's MIUI ROM(and all that's based on it), it requires Luke's custom kernel, or DoomKernel for Luke's MIUI.
Other than that, they should work good with any custom kernels/ROMs. And no, installing a custom won't wipe anything. But it is recommended to wipe the cache and dalvik cache after installing a custom kernel.
i think the x10_029e_Th Kernel also has 1228mhz overclocking. But yes i heard somewhere the safe value is around 1.1Ghz.
Okay thanks. I have another question:
I've looked, and a lot of people recommend the TEAM ROM. But there's also the Th ROM.
I was thinking of changing off the MIUI one I'm on now. Which of those two would be best? I'm looking for performance

I am running the ThGO2 v7.5 ROM atm, i find it extremely smooth. TEAM is pretty good as well, how about you try out both of them and be the judge of it yourself as i don't find much difference in the roms unless there is major lag or something.
Well I'd love to try both, but I hate having to wipe all my data and stuff all over again.
What's the differences really? Just in a nutshell.

I think just basically the visual features are different. The performance as i said i don't notice much difference but TEAM does offers their app "Appman" which basically shows you all updates for their roms etc and different roms include different apps which i can't remember specifically which apps are included in which rom. So just try them out, i don't think you would be disappointed with any.
Okay. I was reading the Th one, said you have to backup APN? Is that data?
And I also saw three different builds for that one (stock, CM, and some other one). What are the differences there? CM has "Super speed" next to it, is that a faster ROM?

Going to SC 3

just wanting to know whats the best way to install superclean 3. currently on a debloated rom ed01.

thanks, i forgot to edit my post, i had to use the other links to get the download since some didnt work... would u be able to answer this for me.... i going to download KGB kernels and flash thru cwm but do I'm new to using custom kernals and I'm wondering if i actually have to change the settings or does it have a default setting?

Change what setting? The kernal will come with its default settings when you flash it
ok, i just was confused, since i have seen alot of comments about changing their voltage setting to over clock and under clock. i wasnt sure if they had a default automatically. kernels are the one thing that confuses me.
Kernels will have default voltage settings and (usually) are not over, or under-clocked by default. If you want to change those values you'll need an app like voltage control.
thanks i'll look into it. would it be best to read through the posts under the SC3 Rom to see what would be a good voltage setting to run with?

I have been running SC3 milestone2 (AWESOME btw) for a while as my daily until the bugs get worked out on ICS. I use Leankernel however because my phone had display (color and lines) with KGB. LK comes overclocked at 1.2ghz. It is fixed, whereas KGB can be overclocked more (up to 1.7 but you most likely wont get past 1.3 or 1.4 and be stable).
If you want to flash kernels an wasy way to do it is with SGS Kernel Flasher (free in the market). It will back up you current kernel so it makes trying different kernels easy.

what bugs are you experiencing on ics keeping you from using it as a daily? im running ths 6.1 with no major issues at all. only mi.or thing i notice is the browser will hang up on a white screen sometimes but a refresh fixes it.

thanks i will look into that app and the kernel u mentioned. i have been meaning to look into overclocking but still new at it and want to be careful.

[Q] Quick question regarding Kernels

Hi, I've just a quick question regarding kernels (in general)
I'm currently running a JB ROM by TheBill, and it's running great. However, coming from my previous phone with a custom rom, I see there aren't many governers available. I would think that a custom kernel would do the trick, but would they work regardless of rom/OS version? Most of the ones I see seem to be for Gingerbread/Froyo, and I'm with Jelly Bean.
I didn't try this so I am not sure, but I think that kernels have their compatibilities with rom. So whatever kernel you are going to flash just read the kernel's details. Then you'll know what roms (cm7,cm9,cm10etc.) it will support. And I hope that you know kernels are phone specific.
Atrix 4G, CM7 based TopSmarts 1.3 rom, Faux123 1ghz kernel.
If I m helpful dont hesitate to thank me.
Don't try to mix and match kernels unless you know what you're doing. It will probably not work as expected, very likely not at all.
There's probably a reason for the lack of governors in some kernels, don't you think?

Well I'm running CM10 and it seems like most of the kernels haven't been developed specifically for 4.1, which is why I brought up the question.

Well, I was wondering if I could get a bit of a power boost with a kernel supporting overclocking, but if I do try and install a kernel that doesn't work out, a Nandroid backup should restore my previous kernel as well?

[Q] Overclocking my SGS2

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section, I just posted here because it happens to be on my SGS2.
Im trying to overclock my phone but i've run into a problem.
I'm currently running JellyBam 3.0 on my SGS2 (rooted ofc) and SetCPU says my kernel is Linux version 3.0.15-CM-gf76e4eb
I've downloaded Tegrak Overclock for my phone and tried to overclock it and I first tried to "Load overclock module", where it came up with an error Failed to run insmod! <0x7f050008> err1 code=2
After researching it appears that my kernel is not compatable with overclocking or some sort of thing. Can I just flash any kernel onto my phone? Without affecting my JellyBam Rom. If so could you please suggest a kernel or how to go about finding a suitable one.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post,
hoping for help.
I don't think Overclocking is reccomended for our S2. It won't make the perofromance of the phone any better since the S2 is very solid and with dual core chip it cannot be better than it is, but however if for some reason you need that you might do it, I don't know which kernel allows you to do that though. Sorry.
Why don't you ask in the Jellybam-thread? I thought there where several kernels that work with Jellybam, but I haven't used the rom for a while.

use siyah kernel with ex-tweaks app. But its not recommended to OC. It will only drain your battery
overclocking will kill your phone. dont do it. Its not like a computer you can not give it extra cooling.. It will damage the phone and damage the battery with the extra heat. What a faster phone try a custom rom. Remove apps you dont use and removed auto task killers they slow your phone down.
Thanks for all your replies. I realize my phone is already very powerful but i didn't want to overclock it for desktop use or normal usage but rather because i read everywhere that my phone lags on the games i was downloading such as bat man and modern combat4. Thought i could improve the performance during that.
But i thinki will just rather not and deal witha little lag. I don't exactly have money to spend ona new phone.
Again thanks for all your replies.
I prefer flash one good kernel: siyah, dorimanx, because OC drain too much battery. And u can try OC because those kernels have OC options
