5 Months in contract and Sprint only wants 180$?? - HTC EVO 3D

Well I got my 3D in June 2011, called to cancel my account to go to verizon due to sprints **** speed and crap signal inside buildings.
I call to cancel and they want 180$ and said my contract ands next year?
WTF? I signed a 2yr contract. im confused as f^@#
Also, anyone know any tips on waiving the fee?

I am confused, you signed a contract knowing that if you cancel the contract there is a early termination fee.... And you are mad?

No I'm actually shocked .. I'm suppose to be in a 2 yr contract.I signed in June and they told me my contract ends next year when I called to cancel ..
Also they said the etf was only 180 but on the website its like 400 strange..

It's pro-rated by how many months you have left. Why are you shocked? Your under contract, you want out, you pay.

They are terminating end of contact dates if you complain about their capturing of encrypted data. Simply ask for proof for your compliance manager. They would not give me new phones, but canceled all my contracts, which was the next best thing. The downside is you will lose your phone numbers if you do it for upgrades.
You'll shoot your eye out (in 3D)

People are so ready to stab you that it's made them a little retarded.

Rob... What are you talking about?

Let's try this again. If you ask for proof that carrier iq is not capturing encrypted data or you want the etf removed from all phones. Sprint will remove etf so you can get a new phone on a new line.
So you can get any new phone if you want, but you are setting up a new contract with new number.
It's also your way out if you are unhappy with Sprint. You just have to be nice to the representative.

You can port your tns to google voice and then back again if you don't want to lose your telephone numbers.

Your ETF actually starts to go down after 5 months into your service. Because you have a $200 ETF, it would go down $10 each month and stops at $50.

$40-$70 credit on top of the upgrade!!!

Guys, don't forget to call customer service first before using the upgrade. You must renew your contract at customer service so you can get the credit. It will not affect your upgrade eligibility if they will renew your contract.

What credit?
Love the details
R.I.P hd2 hello Evo 3d
I got a $45 "Stay with us" credit to my account because I opted to sign a 2-year contract extension early (which does not mess with your upgrade eligibility)...I'm also selling my EVO back to Sprint for $150 credit so my 3D will cost me a whomping $5! Hahaha!
Credit for renewing your contract on top of the upgrade. A lot of sprint customers are not aware of this.
Lol
I think its for existing customers who upgrade... Depending on how close you where to the 2year date of original contract you will get a credit for staying with sprint
Could be wrong as I'm a new customer and never dealt with sprint personally

This I'm not sure. It's worth a call though.
we did this all the time when I worked for sprint. It was usually a $50-70 bill credit per line that the customer was upgrading. Then on top of that you still can upgrade where ever you want as long as you extend the contract first through customer care. A lot of times if you have already done the upgrade and you call in saying you were told about the credit they will still give it to you but its not as seemless of a process as if you were to call in first.

Ok. I have an Evo. I WANT the Evo 3D. Before they split Premier into two levels, I would have been eligible in August to upgrade. My contract ends I think 8/1/12, but I can upgrade 6/1/12. If I call and add another year to my contract (to make it 2013), you're saying they would credit me?

Sprint bumps ETF to $350

Well, this just sucks!
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=8746
Figures.
Won't affect me though because I don't plan on leaving Sprint. I just wish their data speeds would get better. But the alternative to that is Verizon which is like 1/3 more in price and capped data. What good is having 4328907540913409843 mbps download speeds if you can only use 2 gigs of it per month?
Next 2G data....

Regarding the free ETF until september 30th

So, as much as I love the Evo 3d mine has some dead pixels, light leakage, and I do not find a use for the 3d and would rather have a better 2d camera. On september 16th the Galaxy S II comes out on Sprint, and it looks flawless minus the fact that the screen is not qHD, although the colors are suppose to look great.
If I cancel my phone ( I am on a family plan with 5 other phones ) and have my dad say I am leaving for college need to pay my own plan (I am not) and then sell my 3d, and open a new line with sprint on the same plan and buy the phone at the contract price? I would be able to use the money from the Evo and leave with a profit. Also, I know I would get a new number which I do not care about.
So, what do you think? Is this a good idea, and is it feasible?

LOL. I think u have to port your number to a carrier other than Sprint or its not considered porting ha but I could be wrong. That would be funny if you could port your number to a new Sprint line and get a new Sprint phone. That will save a lot of hassle for ppl who take advantage of $0 to get out of contract, switching to boost or virgin mobile than back to Sprint to get a new phone with a new customer 2 year price.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Damn. I'm half tempted to try this. Except it'll extend your family's contract, right? My parents wouldn't be so willing to wait a whole extra year to get out of this contract just for me.
I think it works like this. Go to boost of whatever , tell them I want to port .tell sprint that its because of the new policy. Port it over then go back and open a new line. Buy the galaxy then port it back. This won't extend any other lines.

Rather than the free ETF, why don't you have them end the contract, and ask to go month to month?
Alls you gotta do thereon is sign a new contract with the new changes, to get the sgs2 at the discount price.
Note on asking for month to month, it can be hit or miss. Just be personable and ask kindly, I guess.

Contract date and upgrade date are 2 separate things. Your contract runs 24 months, but they let you upgrade after 22 months (which starts the 24 months over).
If you want to keep your number, port it to a pre-paid cell phone.

Call them up and let them know that you would like to cancel that line without paying the ETF due to the material change in the contract verbiage. Phrase it however you see fit. I'm sure they hear it all.
The key point here is that every line is bound to your account by it's own contract. There's nothing fancy going on here.

Sprint is Nickel and Diming us

Sprint is making some more changes starting early next year. Apparently Family plans are going to lose the extra Employee Discounts, off the second line. We all know Sprint cancelled the discounts off the additional lines (line 3 and up) some time ago.
If you have an Employer Discount, the way it works now, is that you get a Discount (20% for me) on lines 1 & 2, as they billed together as Primary and Secondary. So I get $25.98 off my plan every month with the discount. Effective February the included line TWO, will be split as a separately billed line at $19.99. Line ONE (the Primary) will be $110 as it's own line.
So you will only be getting the Employer Discount off Primary line ONE, which now costs $110. Lines TWO through whatever, will get no discount. My bill will go up an extra $4 basically. Not the end of the world, but just another cut they have implemented. I remember I used to get my Employee discount off all my lines. Just makes you wonder what's next?

While I don't want this but I can say it's gonna be no more unlimited data.
I can honestly see that change coming about, right before they officially roll out LTE. They may let it stay for a while under Grandfathered plans, but if you wanna upgrade...bam there goes unlimited.
Meh...its not like there aren't other options. I wonder if you could use this sudden change of contract as a way out of your contract? I mean after all, it's no longer the family plan you signed up for if they change it, right?
Yes you will be able to. Any change that you can claim adversely affects you financially and they legally can not enforce the ETF as a way out. This includes any change in Billing, whether it be 10 cents more in taxes, or partial Pennies. Any and all increases can be used to get out of your contract without ETF. I have heard of People given a hard time with this from multiple carriers, but in that case it is just talking to the right person.
For anyone given a hard time use this "You have an option here, either allow me to cancel my contract without penalty, or give me your full name, and employee identification number. Transfer me to a supervisor so I can get his/her name and ID. You will be named in my complaint to my state district attorney for breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contractual law. Afterwards if necessary I will retain a lawyer if necessary."
This tells them that they have broken two laws, and are aiding in the broken law if they don't escalate the matter to someone authorized to make decisions on contract releases. If they broke the law and it isn't taken care of you will be sending the matter to your state attorney general who will initiate a class action lawsuit, where the person will be named. State attorney generals really will act on this. On matters that affect many many of their constituents that can reelect them, they love taking and fighting the case. I'd almost guarantee after this threat that they will let you out ETF free. I have used this a dozen times successfully on contracts with carriers and gyms, etc when they broke the law. Works every time. Not a matter of if, just a matter of time

Afterall, it's literally the best phone out minus the Galaxy Nexus.

Speedtest.net app shows my speed at about 0.05 mbit the vast majority of the time with .3 mbit the max i've really seen and that is at 6:30am when the network is clear. And all this with an extra 10 dollar charge for the privelage.
Unlimted data is a catch 22 for me .. with sprint and using my phone constantly I can never even hit 2gb in a month because its so slow. With verizon i would hit 2gb in a couple days. This employee discount deal may be my excuse to get off of sprint and onto a real provider.
Between my contract and being on my parents contract before that I have probably been with sprint for about 15 years.. the funny thing is I cant ever remember being happy with their service.

I don't quite follow, how are you paying twice more than people on other carriers?

Because pre paid carriers get unlimited talk text data for about 50 a month. Since sprint is so terrible specially in the data department...its almost worth doing. You can get a pre paid carrier that runs on the Verizon network, so it's a definite option to consider.
What prepaid runs on Verizon?

Question about cancelling sprint contract

Just to let you guys know im not a person that is trying to rip sprint off or anything like that.
Basically I only use 500mb to 1gb of data per month and this is really the only real reason I am using sprint instead of a prepaid service. Well now that sprint is going to change their contract and make me pay more on my family plan I figure ill just use a prepaid service now especially because I dont have 4g in my area and havent for 2 years lol.
My question is if my 2 evo 3ds will be flagged as lost/stolen when I cancel my contract or not.

They shouldn't. I think that's the purpose of the ETF.

If you cancel your contract and pay your EFT's, they are good to go to reactivate. If you cancel your contract and don't pay your EFT's, those phones will be flagged on Sprint for non-payment and cannot be activated until the bill is paid.
but if i get out of my contract because of a Material change then would they be flagged?

Also, I know that if you are flashing the 3Ds to Boost or something, it won't matter. However, if you want to sell them, they will sell for more if they are clean.

Yeah this is what im going to do. Either go to boost mobile or cricket. I only use 1 gig of data max I figure if im going to be on a slow 3g network i may as well pay less money

No. If Sprint lets you leave with no ETF, they won't 'flag' your phones. The only way they will be 'flagged' is if you tell Sprint they were stolen or you do not pay your bill (etf, etc.).
once you cancel your contract, you can do whatever you want with your phones. Remember, you paid for them so they are yours. The only thing is that you will want to sell them unrooted because it does sell quicker to non-dev pplz as the person a few posts back mentioned.
