[Q] Is any one working on enable FM? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wha't should we do, if we wan't to enable FM? A new kernal?
If FM is enable, the atrix will be perfect!
Who is working on it?

Nothing, no one, it's not possible.

Maybe we can check if the hardware supports it, to start, then, find which is the hardware, and then work on it, has been done to cliq and cliqxt on cm7

We have a Broadcom BCM4329 chip that is supposed to support FM receiving and transmitting.
There is a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966108&highlight=bluetooth+radio that covers your question.
It looks kinda dead though

I will see with the morrison, zeppelin, and jordan developers from to see if something can be done

I read somewhere that although we have the chip, the points for radio are not soldered onto the board or smt. Will update with link if I find the post

Wait for good news~

The chip supports FM, but there is no antenna. FM will never be brought to the Atrix.

this is likely not going to happen.

You don't really need the antenna pin soldered to an antenna on this chip for low power send and receive. The problem is that the pins to send and receive signal are not connected and integrated into the board.

Stereo Bluetooth during flight-mode?

Hi guys, just wondering- I'm due to go on a long flight next week and was wondering is there a way to use stereo Bluetooth while on flight-mode?
I can't seem to find anyway to re-enable Bluetooth while on flight mode.
An alternative would be to turn off the mobile network some how without going into flight-mode? Is there a way.

I'm searching for a possibility to do that too! Didn't find anything yet..
In 2.1 you don't need a im to work a phone... Maybe that helps.... Sorry I can't test nutton... Im in the hospital as we speak....
sent from canadadadada in a igloo..... Or hospital...
Of course you can... I do it everyday at my gym. Just using SwitchPro Widgets and enabling "Turn off signal only" in Airplane Mode. Works great.
Well, you are by international laws not allowed to use any type of radio transmitter in an airplane since it can interfere with critical instruments in the aircraft. So please, obey the laws for the safety of you and your fellow travelers and get a wired headset, you'll conserve your battery as a bonus aswell!

Well Bluetooth isn't radio as such, but a short reply to you, I don't care is there a way to do it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
So when you crash and burn due to cockpit instrument failure (well change in accuracy) we won't care either - well just for the others.
Turn the thing off when in the air. It DOES matter and it DOES affect flight instruments.

Who's a muppet and who's not is up for debate. I haven't crashed and burned so far when I've travelled and used my bluetooth, find out facts before falling into the propaganda trap. I hope you end up on a plane with me
Now I opened this thread with a specific question, anyone who can answer the QUESTION?

Anyway stop lecturing me in "aviation laws" I asked a specific question and it has now been answered.

Transmitting music via fm

I remember reading a while back that the atrix is capable of transmitting via fm. If true can this be worked on? The transmitter is supposedly in active, don't know why.

No, you're not. This, and the hardware keyboard, are the only things I miss about my old N900. I don't think the Atrix has the radio, though. I'd love to be wrong, and would happily set about turning it on if it is present. Where did you hear that the atrix had a transmitter? A cursory google turned up nothing definitive...
I read about it here actually, after work I'll dig around and find it.

Yep i hear it to that the atrix has the option on the chip to do recive and transmit fm but it was disable, and i hear it here too.
and i love that to work.

(Dev request) enabling the fm transmitter

I read here in the general section about a month ago that the atrix has a disabled fm transmitter. If this is the case can we activate it?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
First, wrong section. Should be put in Q&A.
Second, Faux had a post about this a little while ago. He said that he wouldn't bother trying to activate it until he got ahold of a manual for the Atrix. The reason for this was that in the G2X, the FM transmitter was actually completely disconnected, and made so that it wouldn't work no matter what. And Faux at least said that he wouldn't work on it until he knew if it was disconnected or not.
May I include my opinion here, that Q&A should be renamed Q&A&R? R for requests. It's not intuitive that requests for devs go there instead of here (despite the fact I already knew they SHOULD. its still not obvious to people, and I dont blame them
not to completely derail this but I think the better option would be to add a development request subsection, to all of the forums not just the atrix one.

Actually I have posted twice in Q&a and once I believe in general. I have one currently active. I know this doesn't belong here, but I was sick of the lack of dev attention. I apologize and thanks for not completely flaming me.

He says that ifixit also said that there was a cortex a9 in the ATRIX. The previous statement said that ifixit was indicating that there was indeed an FM tuner in the atrix, but there very well may not be. So, using my albeit rudimentary understanding of English, nobody can be sure whether he knew or didn't.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Sigh, just because the bcm chip supports it does NOT mean its connected. G2x was a perfect example of this, it is nearly identical to Atrix. Until someone can show a schematic with FM circuitry connection, there will be very little effort spent for it.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
We have the BCM4329 chip.
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/2twMOxXPOCYGReFs
How do we determine that it is connected? How do we get the circuitry
Just look at datasheet of BCM4329 and little of reverse engineering
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
What faux is saying is that the FM needs to be connected to the motherboard physically, in the G2x it aint ...so we need schematics from MOTO
I guess what I am wondering is (especially looking at the pdf of the bcm4329) if the FM receiver works, then why wouldn't the FM transmitter work?
It looks like it is the same circuit, so if one is connected, the other is too. In recent ROMs I believe they have gotten the FM receiver working, so logic stands to reason that with the right kernel, that we could get the transmitter working as well.
Is this really not a feature that any devs are interested in taking a crack at? I guess maybe they don't want to waste their time without knowing that feature is hardwired first, because I'm sure it's not likely that Motorola will be letting us have any schematics of the Atrix anytime soon.
I'm just saying from a hardware standpoint, it looks that this feature comes in tandem with the FM receiver, and not separately.

NFC

I just found out that the devices which have blue tooth version 4.0 already are capable of doing nfc
They come with nfc enabled so, the motorola RAZR has the nfc feature. It has the hardware for it but it doesn't have the software for it currently so I was thinking if someone could help get that software which is required for nfc!!
Sent from my Lt18i using xda premium
The Droid Razr doesn't have an NFC Chip.
Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 devices can talk to nfc devices. Whether we'll be able to use Bluetooth devices like the razr AS nfc devices is another matter. We would need software such as Android beam to support this I imagine.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
i would of thought that if this phone was capable. Motorola in all their might would of advertised it surely.
Anyhow. NFC is not coming to lincolnshire any time soon! lol

Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
Indeed!!! Haha and many places still dont even use chip and pin.
They use something called "cash"
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I believe that to use NFC (although I'm not sure if it is in there or not) you need a special antenna. Generally, it's attached to the battery. Since our battery isn't removable, that makes it kind of difficult.
It is kind of like that. On the back of my nexus s is 2 connectors which then come in contact with some kind of pad on the battery cover.

As long as it's different.. it's a variable.
Although if I personally swapped hardware I would flash to stock and test it out before going back to a custom set up.

I ordered a replacement part for only $5.99 + shipping. You can find the part here: Witrigs. com Given the price, I suggest you order two. I don't recall the shipping, but it wasn't expensive. Delivery was around 7 days to Canada (from Hong Kong). Website is definitely legit. Maybe add some other parts to your order, if you feel so inclined.
