I just found out that the devices which have blue tooth version 4.0 already are capable of doing nfc
They come with nfc enabled so, the motorola RAZR has the nfc feature. It has the hardware for it but it doesn't have the software for it currently so I was thinking if someone could help get that software which is required for nfc!!
Sent from my Lt18i using xda premium
The Droid Razr doesn't have an NFC Chip.
Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 devices can talk to nfc devices. Whether we'll be able to use Bluetooth devices like the razr AS nfc devices is another matter. We would need software such as Android beam to support this I imagine.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
i would of thought that if this phone was capable. Motorola in all their might would of advertised it surely.
Anyhow. NFC is not coming to lincolnshire any time soon! lol

Indeed!!! Haha and many places still dont even use chip and pin.
They use something called "cash"

I believe that to use NFC (although I'm not sure if it is in there or not) you need a special antenna. Generally, it's attached to the battery. Since our battery isn't removable, that makes it kind of difficult.
It is kind of like that. On the back of my nexus s is 2 connectors which then come in contact with some kind of pad on the battery cover.

I read here in the general section about a month ago that the atrix has a disabled fm transmitter. If this is the case can we activate it?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
First, wrong section. Should be put in Q&A.
Second, Faux had a post about this a little while ago. He said that he wouldn't bother trying to activate it until he got ahold of a manual for the Atrix. The reason for this was that in the G2X, the FM transmitter was actually completely disconnected, and made so that it wouldn't work no matter what. And Faux at least said that he wouldn't work on it until he knew if it was disconnected or not.
May I include my opinion here, that Q&A should be renamed Q&A&R? R for requests. It's not intuitive that requests for devs go there instead of here (despite the fact I already knew they SHOULD. its still not obvious to people, and I dont blame them
not to completely derail this but I think the better option would be to add a development request subsection, to all of the forums not just the atrix one.

It does look like the Atrix has an FM Radio chip.

He says that ifixit also said that there was a cortex a9 in the ATRIX. The previous statement said that ifixit was indicating that there was indeed an FM tuner in the atrix, but there very well may not be. So, using my albeit rudimentary understanding of English, nobody can be sure whether he knew or didn't.

Sigh, just because the bcm chip supports it does NOT mean its connected. G2x was a perfect example of this, it is nearly identical to Atrix. Until someone can show a schematic with FM circuitry connection, there will be very little effort spent for it.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
We have the BCM4329 chip.
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/2twMOxXPOCYGReFs
How do we determine that it is connected? How do we get the circuitry
Just look at datasheet of BCM4329 and little of reverse engineering
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
What faux is saying is that the FM needs to be connected to the motherboard physically, in the G2x it aint ...so we need schematics from MOTO
I guess what I am wondering is (especially looking at the pdf of the bcm4329) if the FM receiver works, then why wouldn't the FM transmitter work?
It looks like it is the same circuit, so if one is connected, the other is too. In recent ROMs I believe they have gotten the FM receiver working, so logic stands to reason that with the right kernel, that we could get the transmitter working as well.
Is this really not a feature that any devs are interested in taking a crack at? I guess maybe they don't want to waste their time without knowing that feature is hardwired first, because I'm sure it's not likely that Motorola will be letting us have any schematics of the Atrix anytime soon.
I'm just saying from a hardware standpoint, it looks that this feature comes in tandem with the FM receiver, and not separately.
Wha't should we do, if we wan't to enable FM? A new kernal?
If FM is enable, the atrix will be perfect!
Who is working on it?
Nothing, no one, it's not possible.
Maybe we can check if the hardware supports it, to start, then, find which is the hardware, and then work on it, has been done to cliq and cliqxt on cm7
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
We have a Broadcom BCM4329 chip that is supposed to support FM receiving and transmitting.
There is a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966108&highlight=bluetooth+radio that covers your question.
It looks kinda dead though
I will see with the morrison, zeppelin, and jordan developers from to see if something can be done

You don't really need the antenna pin soldered to an antenna on this chip for low power send and receive. The problem is that the pins to send and receive signal are not connected and integrated into the board.

What are the benefits of upgrading a device to Ice Cream Sandwich?
Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full web browsing experience.
NFC support, and I'm positive that's part of the OS. Theres no NFC unless carriers decide to embed one into the SIM card.

by the time when all NFC enabled devices can ACTUALLY be used without all those carrier/google bs because of payment infrastructures, I believe an NFC in micro-sd card will long be available. so Razr will have NFC in its ext sd card.
Technology moves much faster than bureaucracies.
I don't really care much for NFC nor ICS.. I just want the damn Bootloader unlocked so we can start playing around with cooked and custom ROMs!

I dont think we will ever see MHL work in a AOSP rom, not so much a CM10 thing as its a AOSP thing. I want to say that it has to do something HTC code and not a google code. I could be wrong, but for as long as AOSP has been on this phone, i dont beleive MHL has ever been support on it

Actually just jumped over to the dev part, and it appears the MHL is a sense only thing meaning that it does have to do with some sort of HTC that is most likey closed source. So it will probably never happen

the rez is an older phone so i would imagine that support for it will start to drop in the near feature as HTC moves away from it, there will be less and less support because we are currently getting bits and pieces from other HTC phones to get JB to work as the rez will prob never see it. So as the 8660 platform goes away, we will be seeing less and less stuff happening for this phone...its sad, but its what happens
so would the razr be more supported?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
Well the org RAZR was released around the same time so its prolly going to be in the same situation at some point. It depends what your doing with it. You will have more options with an HTC phone then a moto because moto is notorious for locking the boot loader so devs tend not to work with them. Not that there isn't custom ROMs just not as much. Personally if it was me I would say the rez. I have one and love it and support isn't going to drop tomorrow for it. Its still a good phone with decent hardware. The problem we will run into is new OS support. Like we might not see klp on the rez. It might stop at jb but that yet to be seen. Both phones are very good I know ppl that have the RAZR and love it. The few features you don't get with cm based ROMs with the rez def should not stop you from considering it. The dev for this phone is still strong and still has a huge support following

The rezound is not bad just pick the razr has hdmi and it has official jellybean so it should.be supported longer that'd be the main thing. Also it is a little cheaper by $30 also it seams in the reviews that the razr is a little faster also benchmarking in is faster by a little. Also it seams that it is a little beater on viewing angle s. But idk I have to get the money from selling things on eBay and that did not happen they never paid ug. Let me know what u think thanks

The screen may be wider, but if you compare them side by side, I believe you will choose the rezound. 720p and much higher PPI. You can watch movies on this phone comfortably and they look great. But for battery, the razr wins, unless you get an extended, but it will make the rezound 2x thick. Still, the screen is something to behold...
Well I think the rezound Is good just some of the things the razr has out weighs the rezound. Thank you to all for you help!
