I can already feel the angry masses and people saying "you started another thread......when there already are threads......."
I am supposed to get my TFP tomorrow from BB. Along the Wifi / GPS / aluminum back issues there is one fundamental one I don't understand......Didnt the engineers test this stuff out first or think to bring up the plausibility of signal distortion before advertising this stuff. Isn't there a Quality control department that could have said hey Bluetooth and wifi radios are distorted look at this?
I do not have mine yet so I hope mine is fine, but to people on both sides who want to bash my post, even Asus is now admitting an issue and that is a big deal as it then puts doubts in potential customers minds. It was funny when it was the iPhone 4 and the antennae issue but not so funny now. At least Apple attempted to do something. I hope Asus can come up with something to save its customer base. We have to have competition for the iPad.
How did all of this slip by? I mean sheesh we are paying 500.00 plus for something we are told works out of the box.
My other questions are more pessimistic. I'm not sure even if mine works fine that it is reliable for me to keep. Am I safe in opening the box and playing with it to build up courage before returning to BB?? Or should I just return with the box sealed?? Right now the only thing I wanted was the TFP. If its not ready then I'd rather have my money back. I did as much research as I could on the iPad 2 or this and made my choice I don't want to spend my money on something I feel is second best, in fact it would be more money.
Please note I had the TF 1 for 6 months, several kernels and Roms on it and was very pleased. I havnt seen a backlash like this in a long time.
Complain about my logic or paranoia, that's fine, but this is not an Apple vs. Android War.
If it is defective, then bestbuy will let you exchange it for another one of the same model.
I'm not sure what policy BB has in the US...but here in Canada, I can return most items to Best Buy for a full refund within 30 days. I have 14 days for computers and tablets. You do not need to have any reason other than it's not the one you want.
As long as you return them in the original packaging with nothing missing...you're good to use it as you wish for that period of time.
I took advantage of this policy when buying a new tv a few years ago. It was a great way to test out different models and sizes to see what I really wanted.
I just purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab a couple days ago...I'm giving it a good test before committing to keep it. If I can get my hands on a Transformer Prime in the next little while from BB, I will give that a whirl as well.
I returned mine last week.
Best Buy has a 14 days return policy even if the box is opened as long as it is not damaged by you.
If the device is defective then you get your postage/delivery cost refunded too.
So play with it for a week to see if everything is working, if not... return it.
I returned it due to dead pixels. GPS, WFI all worked on mine and no black light bleed.
I had 2 units with dead pixels, so make sure you check for that with apps...

If I thought the gps is important feature (which I do), I wouldn't even bother going to get it or even open it up...just say you changed your mind. The chance of it working right is slim. If I knew what I know 2 weeks ago I would not have got it at gamestop. They don't seem to have a refund policy, but some people have said they got it returned and their money back. Either wait for asus to own up and fix the problem or choose another tablet. I also own the transformer, but my son broke it. I waited to get the prime to replace it, but I rather go back to the old one, but seeing how asus is....I'm not even going to get the transformer even though it was good.
My tolerance level has dropped considerably since all this stuff started. I'll probably be looking for trouble. However I've had enough tablets that if I have one of the "defective units" then it won't be hard to find. Feels like a bad dream.
Hey, another Canuck. I wish I bought mine from BB because my Canada Computers 14 days return is up on Friday. There's nothing wrong with opening and playing around with the tablet. That won't prevent you from returning it. If anything, playing with it will give you a sense of the limitations and let you figure out if the GPS really matters or not. Also, Ice Cream Sandwich comes January 12th, how could you pass on that?
P.S. In a couple weeks, you'll be hearing back from people like me that will be sending to RMA to "fix" the GPS. We need to see what they do about it.
They took my used one back no questions asked.
you haven't even gotten it yet let alone used it. you think n hope for the worst, that's what you will get. instead of assuming it'll be riddled with defects, at least test it out and have some hands on before passing judgement. guy got flamed in the other thread for this same thing really. he didn't even have device and was dismissing it on stuff he read n heard. Be your own person and test it out first with an open mind. don't just assume since you been reading all these b.s. threads that they're all true.
that was being nice Good luck on your Prime and performs out the box for you like its supposed to. Let us know your first impressions vs. all the stuff you been reading ln this forum.

I agree. My wife and I really like this tablet. She gets pissed at me for even talking about GPS ("We already have that in the car why the hell do you need it on a tablet!"). Otherwise the only issue for me is the HDMI output. The amount of B.S. in this forum is unreal - it make me think peeps are doing it to deter Prime sales. It's been that bad.

I agree, I use devices in their proper perspective. If I want to use a GPS (I will use a GPS), a mp3 player (I will use a mp3 player). I don't use my PS3 as a bluray player, I use it to play games. I use a bluray player to watch blurays. This is a tablet use it for what it is...and thats to replace a laptop or netbook!

In our case, it replaces the old Dell Dimension desktop. The only problem is that my wife likes to print and I haven't found anything that resembles a network printer application. Anyone, anyone? Off topic, I know.

yes. it has been that bad. I'm starting to think the same thing. all in all, its completely fair to want a fully functioning device since we paid for it. Aside from GPS, which I don't use anyways, My Prime has more than exceeded my expectations and all other aspects of it works flawlessly. including wifi

I use Printershare for network printing. It works pretty well with my Cannon MX860 Series. BTW, got my TP of 12/23 and been loving it ever sense. I loving hearing the oo's and aah's when I show it at work.

I've seen a few printer share apps on marketplace. can't recall the name but they are out there. just type in Printer share or something similar in marketplace and see what pops up. I'm not sure if the Print n Share app that was well received for Ipad is out for Android.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm new to android market and sometimes I see apps and have to question their credibility. I don't know why. Maybe they look too much like shareware or something.
I use printer Share and really like it. You have to download a client for your desktop but it does it all including Remote Print.
You guys are right and I tried to note that I don't have the Prime yet, but this is almost anarchy lol. That's why I wanted to know if I was safe opening the package if I retun. This isn't me wanting something else, it was the TF or bust for now. So I'll post when I get it and will keep an open mind. Thanks
I got my TFP today on theorch bubble wrapped and white box. I don't know what to say after warming up and charging and installing updates, which went flawlessly.
1. Haptic feedback is barely noticeable but I kind of like it that way.
2. Screen is beautifully brought as is the device.
3. Camera is pretty crisp with nice Facebook integration.
4. Nice and lightweight.
5. Riptide game is Wow, Amazing. Graphics.
6. Screen transitions happen with no lag. Impressive.
7. Speakers are way better than the TF 101.
8. No dead pixels and just a hint of light bleed.
Not so great.
1. GPS my phone the Motorola atrix in my livingropm locks to 15 satellites within a minute. This can't find a single one.
2. The wifi signal about 25 feet away drops between 2 and 3 bars. However speed test are the same as the OG iPad.
3. Despite being ultra thin, when holding the TFP the edges hurt your sides of your hands. Kind of surprising.
4. The back is very smudge prone. Not that's a return issue.
While it is beauty and the screen is impressively bright and games speaker and camera are all pluses. Wifi, GPS are frustrating. Need some time to comtemplate.

if thats the case wouldnt you use a laptop or netbook????? you have way to much money/gadgets ( feel free to donate some )
my first one was riddled with problems. i am much more confident that my second will be better now that they are in stock at some places. to me that means asus is starting to catch up on demand a little and hopefully will have better quality control. if not no. 3 here i come!
Well to me the issue with the GPS is not really that it doesn't work but more that its included in the price. So if they had just left it out to began with the prime may have been cheaper. So we pretty much paid for a GPS chip and parts for nothing.

UPDATE:
OK so I returned it and await a replacement. It is supposed to be here on the 12-14 just in time for ICS. I truly hope it works well in terms of WiFi as I love the device otherwise. Thanks so much for everyone's input. It was greatly appreciated. It allowed me to realize I could exchange it and not just return it. Again thanks to everyone for their input!!
Apologize for posting in the wrong area. This is a fairly extensive site and that JPG that was highlighted in red was from an area I wasn't familiar with. Again my apologies, if I had seen it I wouldn't of posted it here.
---------------------------
Ok so I have till tomorrow to return my Transformer Prime to Best Buy. Then it will be 14 days since I received it from bestbuy.com.
I'm truly concerned about the many issues that have been found on this device. Yes, I know it's new and yes, I know ICS is coming the 12th.
What my concern is, is that no matter of software tweaking will fix pogosticks in the hardware, or poor antenna placement (GPS, WiFi & BT), poor case design which interferes with the GPS signal. If it was just a GPS issue I would be like whatever I have my phone for navigation and it can determine my general location well enough for apps. The WiFi issue is a big one for me. I travel. I stay in hotels. Which don't always have the best of reception or signal strength for WiFi. I'm also disappointed that the WiFi doesn't play nice with WEP (Well, at least mine doesn't). Some offices I visit only have WEP setup. It is also troublesome it doesn't have 5 gHz Wifi, but not a deal breaker. I have typically always loved and enjoyed my ASUS products. I have been using their motherboards for years.
I don't have the money to invest into another device in 5-6 months. I'm at my wits end on this. I can see the potential but the possibility of this turning into a $500 misfit from the land of broken tablets is great. I need honest opinions and input. I have been trolling this board for weeks while waiting for it to come and i have seen people both happy and not with their Prime. I truly do not know what to do. Stick it out and take whatever lumps or bring it back and wait for the next round of Tegra 3 tablets.
Thanks in advance for your input.
I have yet to receive my Prime, so I can only speak hypothetically. There will be more Tegra 3 devices out this year. There will be many many coming out, probably soon. With CES starting this week, I wouldn't doubt that there will be some coming out around March or so. That being said, you are essentially (it sounds to me) trying to convince yourself to keep it, not the other way around. If those defects are really deal breakers for you, take it back. Keep your money for now. If you can live without a tablet for a few months, then get rid of it, especially if you need something that will actually work for what you need right now. If I were in your shoes and needed the tablet's bluetooth, GPS, and WEP wifi, I would return the thing and do one of two things: wait for new items to come out this summer, or purchase a good Tegra 2 device right now with no known issues. Like I said, it sounds more like you are trying to convince yourself to keep it rather than convincing yourself to get rid of it. It is something shiny and new with amazing specs, something that is probably causing your hesitation. But there will be numerous shiny new things out this year with equally good specs or better. Just my 2 cents. Take it how you will.
EDIT: Oh, and wrong section, btw. There's a Q&A for this.
Well put Wasabi.
I also have not received my prime (pre-ordered Champange from BB on 11/29), but personally the concerns you (the OP) bring up will not be big deals for me. The GPS thing is not a deal breaker for me. I (as well as most people) do not plan on using the thing for navigation (I have my phone for that). And as far as Wifi goes, if I were in a position where I wasn't able to receive Wifi reception or the signal strength was just too weak for my needs then I would simply turn on Wifi tethering on my phone.
So if I were in your shoes, I definitely would not return the device over the concerns that you have brought up.
I love the Prime. Sure the GPS is non-existant and the WIFI is iffy, but it's a slick deal. The feel in the hands is priceless, and the performance is excellent. What if you return it and get something else in a couple of months and then that tablet also has issues? It's a revolving door with technology today. Don't like the product you have? Wait until tomorrow and there will be something better. I say stick with it. That's what I've chosen to do, and I've even committed to the dock.
Oh, and by the way. I distinctly remember that Best Buy was offering returns until the 24th of January on all tech purchased right before Christmas.

If there is really nothing wrong with it other than known issues, sell it on eBay and make a profit. It is obvious to me from the OP that you are not really happy with it. No reason to keep it in the hopes you will start to like it.

I am in the same boat right now. According to best buy, anything purchased between dec 13th-dec 24th qualifies for the extended return date of jan 24.
I am hoping ICS on the 12th will help with the GPS, Wifi issues. If not my prime will be going back for sure. The wifi is a BIG issue as i am in hotels a lot also, GPS is not as big but still needed for some of the apps i run so would also be a deal killer.
Reading on other units it seems that the Toshiba Thrive 10" appears to be the most trouble free with good wifi and gps, many others seem to suffer from connection issues also. So confusing at times, spec wise the Prime is killer and the price is good but severely crippled with major problems - Lets hope ICS helps.
>it seems that the Toshiba Thrive 10" appears to be the most trouble free
For me, the Prime's #1 advantage remains the integrated keyboard dock. I need something that's light with good battery life and a good screen for writing (and straight writing of draft copies; cleanup/formatting work is done on my desktop).
If the Prime weren't available, I'd go for an ultrabook (probably a Zenbook UX31) and a Kindle Fire. Long story short: if you want to use the dock, then the Prime is the only choice. If you don't care about the dock, then there will probably be better choices available in the next few months.

Hold on. The Prime is not "severely crippled". The GPS is not a component that allows the tablet to function, it's only an accessory. If the processor had an issue, say, burning up and rendering the tablet useless, I'd say that would qualify as severely crippled. And the WIFI works. No one anywhere has said that there WIFI just simply doesn't function.

Really this is the second or third post I've seen this on today. Someone already let the OP know his "ERROR" this is like an overused tag line.
Im in the fence as well. As I said in another thread I don't want this to be the 2012 Blackberry playbook that store are dumping 6 mos from now. If the price point were lower id be more confident. But based on anything I think im keeping it. The dock will help keep it unique. A month from now if im discouraged there will still be ebay where prices stay higher longer.

You have a TP so make your own call. Ignoring what the internet has to say, have YOU had a problem with the wi-fi reception. Or more to the point given your experience a hotels do you feel that the TP would have problems in the hotels you go to and would it be a deal breaker? If so return it. Is WEP critical for you? If so return it. Otherwise I would keep it.
The TP seems to be very close to stock so should be inline for easy upgrades. It is a risk the Asus will stop supporting it earlier thn we like but I think with the ICS upgrade we should be good for a while. I would be more worried about picking up a tablet with a heavily customized interface. They, in my experience, would be the more likely not to support android upgrades moving forward.
My TP wifi reception is on par with my Macbook air and GN so I have no complaints there. I would guess if the TP had accessing a hotel AP chances are the rest of my equipment, with the exception of my HP laptop, would also have problems.
GPS has been a bit less predictable but it is not a showstopper for me (though it is a disappointment) . If I used the TP for navigation in car I would probably invest in a stand and a external GPS puck. Again not optimal but acceptable for me.
Overall I am pleased with my purchase and the functionality it provides, especially when you include the keyboard dock. I tend not to use the dock on the go bit when I am at my desk I find myself continuing to use the TP where the xoom basically was just charging till I left my desk.
The screen is quite pleasant and a significant factor in the system. I have not used a lot of different tablets but from what I have seen the TPs screen is superior to most androietablets and on par with the ipad2.

There is this website like 1 Sale A Day called Woot and they had refurbished Toshiba Thrives 10" the other day with 90 day warranties. Me and my friend were looking into it but I had my heart set on this one and am glad I got the Prime. I have read people with problems and have read people who love it and have no problems at all. And GPS isn't a big deal for me on the tablet but I hope wifi is good. I have a small 1BR condo and my phone does great on wifi but sometimes has a little problem getting on my works wifi but I hope this does good when I am working. I hope I get a good tablet with nothing wrong and I can't wait to get it. I did kind of like the Toshiba Thrive cause of having a USB but I can deal with not having one here and I think I may eventually get the dock now. And I know here in 5-6 months more quad core tablets will be out but I had my Archos for a year so I plan on keeping this one for a pretty long time. LOL!

This.
Even when other Teg3 tablets come out (probably even the high res Asus) the most distinguishing feature of the Prime will be its keyboard dock. And that's a real important feature for quite a few people.
Ask yourself this. How important are the following features to you:
1) GPS
2) Super Strong Wi-Fi
3) An HD display
4) More RAM
5) Higher clock speed
6) Price
If 6 is important, other tablets are probably going to be more expensive. If having the latest and greatest is important to you, than other tablets will have 3, 4, and 5. If you're willing to pay more, you'll get those extra features along with 1 and 2. If the docks important you really don't have another choice. Everyone on a public forum has different needs and priorities so you're not going to get a definitive answer to your question.
For what it's worth, ever since the case issue went viral I haven't seen any price drop on the TF201. In fact it's now gone up by over $100 at Amazon and Ebay. Go figure, imo the demand is far higher than returns. If Asus comes up with a fix that works, it will bring back the doubting fans, no doubt.

These threads are so LAME. I keep sitting hear reading all these complaints, undecisiveness, this or that. while I've been sitting here with my device since 12/22 enjoying it. other than GPS, mine has no issues. if so unhappy or whatever about it, just take it back end of story. wait till next device rolls around. then hope you won't be going through same ordeal against as all devices when first released has their bugs or gripes. Don't look for XDA to hold your hand and tell you everything going to be OK. Xda just tells you like it is. its completely understandable if issues affecting your device are too much for you. remember you can always exchange it also. plus people mostly commenting on wifi issues is blowing b.s. I've extensively tested my Prime against my Ipad and Atrix4g. Prime performs right on par with those as far as wifi speeds, strength, range, and stability goes.
Maybe you should read the positive transformer prime thread. where people such as your self was conicnced of this or that wrong. People reading all these posts on negative things. Then these people realized they are so glad they didn't let the negative things spread here on XDA about the Prime influence them. just take a look at all the testimonials in there..lol
Honestly. even once new devices come out, it won't be at the great value Prime is. expect them to be alot more expensive. Also whoever said March will show new devices comparable to prime out is mistaken. only device that has the best chance of being released around d that time is Ipad3. Apple has already just announced some big press conference or show coming up to announce something. More than likely ipad3 and Ipad mini.

Only you can make the decision. If you have doubts about your happiness with it, and your purchase isn't giving you the thrill you expected, then return it. If you like it, and don't think the issues will bother you then keep it.
Those who are trying to convince you to keep it remind me of a story many years ago. I was thinking of buying an early first generation VW diesel vehicle. An old man I knew owned one. When I asked him about it he bragged and bragged about the fuel mileage and all all the advantages. I couldn't wait to buy one. Soon after I did, all kinds of problems kept appearing, making me very unhappy, and I eventually sold it at a huge loss after several months, just happy to be rid of it. When I saw him again and told him about the problems, he agreed that he also had many. When I asked him why he had bragged on it so highly. His reply was, "Son, you know misery loves company!"
I'll never forget that. His quote does seem to be true at times.
So as I've stated before I bought my TFP online from best buy on friday the 6th. It arrived yesterday. After a day of pressing F5 watching the UPS page it was delivered. After waiting 4 hours till the end of my work day I rush home to find my new TFP. Within seconds of turning it on I see 2 bright groups of pixels against the black boot logo. Now these werent just 1 pixel on, but rather a cluster...it almost looks as if pressure had been placed behind them too long. (my guess was during manufacturing screen were tightened too hard.) So I ignore these for now figuring I can live with a couple of blotches on a black screen. Immediately I fire up the browser and hit XDA-devs. Within moments I notice two super bright areas with shadowy pixels around them. So now a total of 4 pixel blotches. I am devistated at this point. I waited forever for BB to get them in stock, then to get it finally shipped, now I'm having to return the defective unit.
So my question is if I return it to best buy, will they be able to refund my money then place an in store OMS order and hopefully get my new TFP to me sooner than waiting around for places like newegg or amazon to get them. My wife said I looked like I was about to cry when I realized I was going to have to return it. I seriously considered just keeping it and living with the defects, but after paying so much I can't in good faith keep it.
Thanks for listening, its just really been bugging me the last few hours.
TLDR: Bought TFP, its broken, have to return, sad face.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the posts of XDA....
return it and wait til another one is available. i know it will be hard as availability is scarce, but u are spending $500+ so you want to make sure you get a perfect prime.

I feel you pain! I order my TFP on the same day and received it yesterday. I was giddy all day to get this tablet. All though I don't have the same issue as you, i am having the same issues as many others. Wifi, GPS, and my TFP not having a serial. The Wifi and GPS is something that isn't not really effecting me at the moment. The No Serial issue IS. No serial means no updates, which means no ICS. I believe they can fix that with software update, but when. If they don't I am sure some awesome Developer on XDA will figure it out. I am torn and kinda beside myself in the idea of returning the TFP. I am not sure what to do and when I am going to do it.
I had to return mine to BB yesterday....the CSR tried to place a new order for me but it wouldn't let her. BB is sold out....
anyways I paid with PayPal on BB dot com and my money was refunded within the hour.
At which point I signed up for alerts from Nowinstock.com and got an alert when Neweeg had stock, placed an order with them....now I'm expecting it tomorrow...

People have been having the No Serial Number lack of Updates since before Christmas. Nothing has been fixed, promised, heck Asus has said there are no updates so there are no problems.
That should weigh in your decision about weighting for a software fix from Asus. We are basically a month into this problem, with no fix in sight.

i'd just return it, i mean $500 for a defective unit... I'd just wait for stock
Hey I feel your pain. I would just return it if I was you. You paid good money for it. I ordered mine from BB and was like a kid at Christmas when UPS arrived. I charged it up for a few hrs and went to turn it on. Guess what. Nothing. Zilch. Doesn't turn on. WTF.
I called Asus who was clueless and hey wanted me to pay for shipping to Texas. Sorry not paying for anything. Went back to BB the next day and returned it. Unfortunately 5 days later I still don't have one and waiting for BB to get it in stock. Many more days I assume.
Good luck

Way to stay classy and mature man. Everyone complains about the "noobs" around here now, and you have people acting like this. Great job man.
To actually join the conversation, took mine back to Best Buy tonight. Had the "Serial Number Unknown" Problem. Asus told me my tablet was fine, there were no updates and the Serial Number doesn't show on any tablets in the Status Screen. That is 3 straight lies right there.
Best Buy was very easy to return to. Bought it online, took it to the store, they gave me a full refund to my Credit Card and recharged a gift card to return the Gift Cards I spent.
I cannot believe how relieved I am feeling after getting this off my hands.
Man i feel for you guys with the unknown serial number... i too was like a kid at christmas thank god mine has been almost perfect..save for a small spec of dust under the screen that shows a grayish shadow on bright colored backgrounds which isn't noticeable during gaming or video watching; ereading and web browsing is slightly noticeable but i'll deal with it till i can RMA it when they've sorted out the bugs later this year..i don't have many of the issues most prime users have experienced...my wifi and bt have worked flawlessly together, little backlight bleed, valid serial, and no separation of glass, no dead pixels...its too bad all these QA issues cause the tab is seriously awesome...i don't even touch my iPad 2 anymore since i got the Prime...hope it gets sorted soon..i also purchased mine from bestbuy.com on the 5th of this month

I appreciate your assistance. However I don't feel like following it the moment.
Anyway, took it back to best buy tonight. The nice girl at the CS counter returned it. I told her I wanted to order one from OMS and she was nothing but happy to oblidge me. Said I would have my unit in store in 9 days. Not as long as i thought, but longer than I hoped. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.
Wondering what store availability will be after the 700 has now been announced.

Took Mine Back Too
The only problem with mine was some backlight bleed along the right side and bottom left. I took it back to BB thinking that $500 bucks is $500 bucks. After looking around iPad2 has had the same issue. Seems to be an ips screen thing more than just a TFP screen thing. As of now if I want Tegra 3 so it is the only option. I should wait for store availability by then production should be sorted out. But I still want it now. So I will hang out at Now IN Stock I guess. I prefer BB because the ease of returning device but I really do not expect BB to restock even online given all the pain the Prime has caused them.
There is one question I have to ask, are there really some Primes with no problems ? I'm so confused on the different info we are getting. Some say their GPS and WIFI work great, some say all of the Primes have problems with the GPS/WIFI. To make matters worse, we are hearing nothing from ASUS. I loved my Prime but sent it back to Best Buy since it was starting to act up. I just hope a new batch will turn up with no problems at all, but I think it will never happen.
I spoke to Asus last night about my daughter's Prime and Serial Number: Unknown. (Prime is not rooted.)
They said:
1. Make sure you are logged in to google acct when trying to check updates.
2. If no update, backup data, do a data wipe and try again.
After trying those two things and no resolve, they gave me an RMA number and I have to send it to be fixed. Takes 7 business days from when they receive it. They would not pay for shipping as they said it is in the warranty.
This may be a pain, but I think I better option than waiting for some fix or returning the unit for what could be another unit with the same issue.
Also the RMA is good for 30 days, so you could go through that process with Asus now and then wait to see if there is a fix - with the option to send it back later.

The interesting thing I found when regarding Best Buys return was they immediately knew they could order from OMS after I mentioned it and when I asked for quantity she said there was plenty. I tried getting an exact number but she didnt give me any. I'm sure they simply have a couple hundred sitting in a warehouse just incase they had returns.
The manager or whoever, grabbed the tablet and did ask me what the problem was. I simply showed him the screen issues, he agreed and told the CS girl to return it defective reason pixel issues. He then proceeded to take tablet in the back and play with it. I told him if he really got bored to play the jetski game that it would blow his mind playing on a tablet.
To whom it may concern within Asus:
Let me first start off by saying that this is my 5th Prime. I originally pre-ordered a 32GB Grey TF201 Asus Transformer Prime bundle with Bluetooth controller from Gamestop. http://www.gamestop.com/tablets/asus-transformer-prime-32gb-grey-tablet-bundle/98405
After all the launch delays and bad web coverage about the TF201's bad WiFi, I decided to cancel my order and purchase an iPad 2. To this day I have not one complaint about the iPad 2. Every aspect of the iPad 2 is outstanding.
Finally the TF201's launch day arrives. It really didn't matter to me because I am happy with my iPad 2....until I received a call from Gamestop telling me my Prime was ready for pickup(Even though I had previously canceled...lol). So...based off of my Faith that Asus fixed all of the problems plaguing the review TF201 pre-launch models, I bit the bullet and purchased the TF201 bundle and dock.
On the way home I was SOOOO excited. Kinda like when my parents drove me to pick up the original Optimus Prime Transformer back in 1984.

As I opened both the Prime and dock I was shocked how Premium the quality was. Wow!!! Asus really went all out on the look and feel of the Prime and dock. This is really first class stuff here. After setting it up the horror became apparent.
Prime #1 #2 Problems:
1. GPS did not work(didn't really matter to me)
2. WiFi range/throughput is/was awful.
3. Bluetooth enabled, causes WiFI to NOT receive or transmit data.
4. Bluetooth audio delay in video playback, regardless of the video player app used or brand of Bluetooth headset.
5. Because I can't use Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time renders my Bluetooth controller useless.
6. FC's(Force Closes) and random reboots.
5. Screen Backlight Bleeding.
7. Lag with Asus My Water II live wallpaper(Honeycomb).
8. Video artifacts while watching Youtube video's.
9. Bouncing taskbar after video artifacts.
With these problems I had to return my first and second Prime back for a full refund at gamestop. They were not happy and neither was I....back to my iPad 2.
Almost 2 months went by and even though I am/was totally happy with my iPad 2, I figured Asus had to have straighten things out by now.
Prime #3 was purchased at Bestbuy earlier last week.
Problems:
1. Bluetooth enabled, causes WiFI to NOT receive or transmit data.
2. Bluetooth audio delay in video playback, regardless of the video player app used or brand of Bluetooth headset.
3. Because I can't use Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time renders my Bluetooth controller useless.
4. Video artifacts while watching Youtube video's.
5. Bouncing taskbar after video artifacts.
I spoke with Asus Tech Support who recommended RMA with the cost of shipping at my own expense or return. Of course I chose to return it.
Prime #4
Problems:
5. Because I can't use Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time renders my Bluetooth controller is useless.
6. FC's(Force Closes) and random reboots.
5. Screen Backlight Bleeding.
7. Lag with Asus My Water II live wallpaper(Honeycomb).
8. Video artifacts while watching Youtube video's.
9. Bouncing taskbar after video artifacts.
10.Constant reboots.
I contacted Asus again and was offered RMA with the cost of shipping at my own expense or return. Of course I chose to return it again.
Embarrassed, I went back to Bestbuy. They recommended that I give up on the Prime. They also had received Prime returns do to defects. I insisted on giving it another shot. I am a Bestbuy Rewards Silver Member for 4 years+ standing. I know almost everyone in my local store.
Prime #5(Current)
Problems:
1. WiFi range/throughput is/was awful.
2. Bluetooth enabled, causes WiFI to NOT receive or transmit data.
3. Bluetooth audio delay in video playback, regardless of the video player app used or brand of Bluetooth headset.
4. Because I can't use Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time renders my Bluetooth controller useless.
5. Video artifacts while watching Youtube video's.
6. Bouncing taskbar after video artifacts.
I called Asus again, same recommendations
I turned it off today and held power & volume down and then pressed up, Bluetooth and WiFi work together now, but who knows for how long....WTF to that?1?!?
I really love the look and feel of the prime and dock. I really need these problems to be fixed VERY soon. What makes matters worse is, that I see our friend Gary on Youtube showing off the new TF700t. I can't even finish watching the video because my TF201 has massive video artifacts that also affect my taskbar. Forget the TF700t Asus!!! Asus needs to focus on fixing the mess Asus created!! You have loyal(not for long) customers who NEED you NOW!!!
I don't care if there are a million threads/stories/letters like this. I need you to hear me...and hear me clearly. This is not a joke!! I spent $650.00USD on the Prime and Dock. I have 43 days left to return it and spend my money elsewhere(iPad 3). Until the return windows has come and gone these purchases are NOT final.
I even wrote Asus twice. Here are my mail request ID's WTM20120204201235672 & WTM201202042012435314. I have yet to receive a response....lame. I've owned a 2 EEE PC's, G51GX, G71GX, G73JH and G74SX. Now I own a M18x.
I need you to hear, listen and understand me and each and everyone of your loyal customers. I even read Asus is offering other countries compensation.
I am a technology enthusiast by heart. First to have any and everything(except a good camera my Nex-5 is down for warranty repair). It's ridiculous that I/WE sit here with such amazing hardware from Asus that is so defective. This stuff should have been fixed yesterday. Especially with the iPad 3, TF700t and Acer/Lenovo Tegra 3 tablets on the horizon. The Prime is a luxury item. It can be returned just as easy as it was purchased.
Instead of watching the super Bowl pre-game show, I'm here writing this letter on behalf of all TF201 owners & myslef. Please don't continue to half @$$ this product.
Here are my solutions:
Fix the Prime's problems with software updates ASAP.
If software can not fix the problems, have Bestbuy perform the repair. That way we can hold some one physically accountable in case of damage or failed repair. Bestbuy is a authorized reseller/repair facility for Asus.
Asus PLEASE fix my/the Prime.
You would've been better off just PM Gary this whole message. It won't get seen faster being out here like this. We all know he pays more attention to his sticky threads and personal PM.
So tell me what happened? Just the other week you had a thread talking about how Asus finally got it right..lol.
The 5th Prime that I have is waaaaay better than my last 4 Primes.
No backlight bleed, no physical defects, awesome GPS...in fact it's so awesome I can lock on to 7 satelittes from within my bed room. My Garmin can't even do that.
But there are times when I need WiFi to work in my bedroom where every other device that I own gets 4 to 5 bars. I also need Bluetooth and WiFi to work at the same time and no Bluetooth audio delay.
And last but not least...no video artifacts and bouncing taskbar after watching Youtube videos. As you know I really Love/Hate my Prime. I feel that I've gone out of my way to make this Love/Hate relationship work. I really don't want to get rid of my prime and this awesome community here. I'm really trying to hold on here.
As I look at my prime beside me it just annoys the ccrap out of me how this amazing device can be full of pre-production bugs.
Understand your frustration totally!
However... sometimes you just have to accept something is'nt going to happen, and throw in the towel, it's just not worth all the stress!
I cancelled my pre-ordered Prime after seeing all the hassle people were getting with even the most basic of device features.
Check out my thread dude!

Asus blew this up BIG TIME. They have destroy their reputation with this one. They rushed to be the first to release a quad-core tablet and this is what happened. Pointless having the fastest hardware (in benchmarks) when it's basic functions are broken. I would be very cautious with their future hardware release (TF700 or anything).
I did. I really don't like the direction your thread is going in. Oh well.
The closer we get to iPad 3/TF700t the more united we will become. Trust me. No one is gonna just sit here after paying 500.00USD+ with a defective tablet full of bugs while the competition releases similar spec'd tablets w/o the bugs......especially someone outside of the return window.

Hey do you mind linking my thread in your original post?
Don't take this personal but anytime a company see's the words Social/Media attack they back off like the plague. Instead of providing support, they ignore the entire message.
My post is my last and final outcry on behalf of myself and every other TF201 owner before I throw in the towel. I've already written Gary, Asus 2x, XDA and soon Asus's Facebook and Twitter page.
I think your thread is good and shares the same common goal, but the approach is different. Keep at it. You have my support.

Wow 5 primes?? At what point do you just give up and wait for a tablet that works as advertised?? This one is a lost cause.

If a fix is not released soon, I'm officially throwing in the towel on Tuesday evening AKST time and going with a iPad 3 or TF700t with less problems. Preferably iPad 3. I appreciate Gary's help but I feel that Asus isn't doing enough, quickly enough.

Quietly waiting for fix
I for one, appreciate these threads. No matter how repetitive people think they may be.
I'm one of the many users that have joined this site after purchasing the prime in order to learn all the tips and tricks i can do with my new toy.
Only to find myself glued to this thread each day about when i can expect my $800 tablet (yes it costs that much in Australia) is going to work a bit better about 10 meters away from my router.
Ive always been a huge fan of asus products, and im just hoping they can get the loyal fans out of this mess we're in.
I know for a fact that if i attempt to return my tablet, its going to take forever and a day in order to get anything in return.
I absolutely love the look and feel, and would much rather have someone tell me how to fix it rather than get my money back.
Thank you for your post. I feel exactly the same as you do. Please continue to support your fellow TF201 owners. If a software fix isn't released by Tuesday evening I will return my Prime. Regardless, I will still post here and continue to offer my support and prayers to those affected by Asus's negligence. I know this is a just a tablet but to me and many like me, it is an extention of my PC and myself. It is important for it to work correctly.

I wrote more but pressed some stupid button on accident. Lol. Basically new tf-700 won't be out till June at earliest. I already pointed it out from that video before. ASUS HISTORY HAS SHOWN that they never release devices exactly when they say. Its always later. Most recent and perfect example is the Prime. It been was supposed to be released months ago. Before that was OG transformer n other Asus tablets. So keep in mind a releastic time frame of release. If I were you, I wouldn't be an early adopter of next device. After going thru what you did, it'll be smarter to just wait it out for a lil while after it releases to get a scope of how things are going for it. Whatever you do though, fck apple..lmfao ipad3 will be severely crippled compared to the freedom of Android. Only freedom apple gives you is changing wallpapers..lmfao. other then that its a boring device with just apps on a screen. I had to jailbreak my Ipad to only be able to do half the things Android does naturally out the box. Plus being chained to iTunes is the worst. I'd be damned if I ever would have to use some PC program to put media, music. N videos on my Ipad. That's why I jailbroke so i wouldn't need iTunes anymore. Apple is good and is mainlybfor beginner people to tablets. If you more than just a beginner, then android is what u want.

I've put up with 5 bad Primes back to back from different retailers...lol. I guess I could wait for iPad 3 or TF700t. What makes this so hard is that I have exhausted my time and resources(not including money) on my 5th Prime w/dock. I really like everything about it minus all the problems. I actually like iTunes and the App store so I'll be right at home with iPad 3. It drives me nuts to sit here with my Prime 2 feet away from me and not use it because the WiFi doesn't reach it when every other device I own gets at least 4 out of 5 bars. Asus got the idea right, just not the execution. Hopefully Asus will announce a fix between now and Tuesday evening. If they don't I'll most likely go iPad 3 or TF700t w/dock. I have about 400.00 in Bestbuy gift cards...lol. Even if/when I return my Prime & dock I will continue to support the members here. I understand that supporting the TF201 users paves the way for better releases from Asus...........hopefully
Technically my M18x has an Intel 6300 with My WiFi support so I could extend the WiFi to my tablet. But I don't feel I should have to rely on my maxed out M18x to power a 650.00 tablet. I even owned a Japanese PS Vita with better range than my TF201. Asus is playing a dangerous game here. A lot of products are releasing soon(PS Vita Feb.) that could sway some pissed off TF201 customers. Hopefully a fix will be released.................................soon.
Everyone who's getting "awesome" GPS, what are most of the color of your bars on the GPS Test app?

I hate to tell you but WiFi range with Primes will not be up to snuff with other wifi devices unless they remove the all aluminum backing the deadspot range is about 5-15 ft before other wifi devices ive tested several primes on several different routers its consistent amount all Primes.

To be honest I have one of the best Primes. But it's still not good enough.
Here are some pics showing GPS from my bedroom and to validate that I actually own a Prime and am not trolling. My Prime has better GPS than WiFi!! Go Figure!! If I'm outside I have 13 satelites all in the green at the least.
WiFi Disabled
WiFi Enabled
I really do not mean to brag here but I have been reading this forum a lot since I got my prime on Thursday. And I hate to hear so many people have so many issues with the device but I honestly do not have one complaint. The wifi signal does weaken where i feel it shouldn't and I have not even tried GPS (why would I? Don't need to know the exact coordinates of my living room). But these are not even close to being dealbreakers imo. Battery lasts me over a day of use. Does not get hot when charging. Minimal light bleed only visible on boot screen. No dead pixels. I mean seriously this thing is absolutley perfect for me. Just my experience of course.
BTW. On ics version .13. Rooted. C1 serial #
And the chrome beta is lightning fast for me. This morning I tethered off my infuse 4g and it was probably the most responsive browser experience I've ever had in my entire life...mobile or otherwise (not exaggerating...it was thinking for me...haha)

Although I have had the same experience, this could have been posted in the Positive Prime thread. Much like how every complaint should be consolidated into one complaint thread.
Thanks. Just found that thread 10 secs ago. That's was a good idea btw.

You got lucky. Other's, not so much. The biggest problem with the Prime isn't that it has issues, it's that they're completely random and vary from device-to-device regardless of build date.

I really do not mean to brag here but I have been reading this other forum a lot since I got my shiny new stainless steel, french door refrigerator. I hate to hear so many people have so many issues with the device but I honestly do not have one complaint. The ice cubes are a little small and there aren't really that many of them and I have not even tried the water dispenser (why would I? Don't need water when I have all that beer in there). But these are not even close to being dealbreakers imo. Case of cold beer lasts me over a day of use. Does not frost when running. Minimal light bleed only visible with door open. No dead pixels in temp display. I mean seriously this thing is absolutley perfect for me. Just my experience of course.
He is fully obligated to make his own thread also. All the complaint ones do it. Things about to start changing around here soon. This thread might be wwhat sparks it off. Read other thread on consolidation of complaints for details. Good working prime owners about to stsrt doing the ssame thing, which we have a right to. People want to make a new thread for every complaint. OK. Good prime owners will make one for every good thing about our tablet. Don't let it come to this. Good working primes have showed in every poll they outnumber complaint one, by a large margin. Not just a lil bit more. Don't make the Positive Transformer thread start expanding and assimilating everything that comes in sight! Lmfao. If the complaint ones can have loads of threads on same complaints, then the good working ones can have even more on what works great....lol. those will quickly push down all complaint threads. Except for sticky ones
So start consolidating complaint threads or else! Lmfao

I totally agree! Let the first person who has a good working Prime(definition is one which does everything Asus claimed in their original specs and descriptions, without any problems) be the first to start the "I have a good working Prime" thread. Just having Tegra 3 because Asus listed it in the specs does not make it a good working Prime, even if they were the first. After all, other products we buy are expected to perform as advertised or they are not considered good working.
Please remember good working does not mean some things work and some don't. That would be similar to being a little bit pregnant! Lmfao!

I was more so joking but it has been suggested to me by several people through PM. Plus GPS is removed from Asus spec. That's a dead issue really. Plus working good prime means works good up to how the person sees fit. Just like a displeased person might see an issue because it doesn't works to how they see fit. So people really don't want to go there.
But along with others the trend will continue tl constantly report repeat complaint threads. No sense in having 80 .13 firmware update threads or battery ones. They will soon get shut down one by one. Seen plenty others get shut down like that. Its completely fine to have complaint threads. But not several ones on exact same thing. They could easily be merged. That's all I'm saying. Which is fair enough.

I totally agree with this and may just make a thread about how much I enjoy using mine answer how it works great for what I need it to do. Then I can rehash the same things already in a few other threads, but at least it will help balance out some of this bias that appears to the sheer numbers of problem threads all covering the same thing
This is not a contest of whether lovers or haters can have more posts. The number of happy owner threads will never surpass the number of unhappy owner threads for one simple reason. The resolve of an unhappy customer is much greater than that of a happy owner.
As an example, a pissed-off customer will usually never in his lifetime deal with the company which slighted him in his opinion. But a happy customer may quickly lose his loyalty, and be drawn away, if another company offers a superior product at a much better price. Loyalty is for sale but disdain is much more enduring and has a much higher price.
A scorned woman is an excellent comparison!
Adding my voice to the happy customer pile. My Prime has been awesome. I've owned it for a week now and I don't have any complaints. The wifi signal certainly isn't as strong as my HTC EVO 3D but since I'm tethered to that more often than not it's never really been an issue.
The keyboard dock has REALLY increased the productivity potential of this device. Myself and my boss both got identical models within days of each other and have been testing the Primes in business applications while on the road. I can honestly say that I haven't missed my laptop yet.

I am also happy with my prime, even with a non working gps (Non issue for me) wifi works just fine so far and it is the fastest tablet I had to date. I also got the matching keyboard dock (lucky that BB had the last one in my color ) which has made the tablet that much better for me.
i don't know about that one there are people in this thread who have turned in there primes like 6 or 7 times until they get a good working one. I think people realize the potential of this tablet and are willing to put up with the minor imperfections such as the non or so so working gps.

Wow.. definitely determination.. There is another guy who is on this 8th looking a 9th. Could the tables be turned significantly if we measured not by happy prime owners versus non happy prime owners, but primes kept versus primes returned?? Hmmmmm... you have 12, the other guy has 8, I have 3.5 and thats just 3 of us..

lol I say determination but my friends think I'm in need of an intervention. I blame myself for the whole fiasco. The first one that I bought was actually good but after reading all the posts I got "paranoid" and though my wifi was weak so I tried another. Basically 2 to 11 was really bad, bad like clumps of dead pixels, horrible light bleed and so on. At one point I actually had 6 of them laid out on the floor with each one running wifi analyzer lol...Needless to say I love the Prime and don't regret going through what I did to find the "one".

The other factors would be expectations and tolerance.
Prime purchaser must have those set correctly.
As OP said that his Prime wifi is weak and he accepted it. And he might ignore completely non working GPS. While other users might go mad and scream out loud.
There you go, roll your dice and be prepared to accept less and / or inferior one.
Once you do that, you are definitely a happy Prime owner.
Sure, you are entitled to brag that. That's very difficult.

I wish I get a chance to be that determined. I want to buy from local stores but they run out of stock real quick everytime the shipments get in. Boo! Maybe I have to buy online which I prefer not to.
Ahh, where to begin? I know! Does everyone remember all the many posts re: GPS, where one after another popped in to tell us how little GPS meant to them? I do. Including several heated arguments about the value of GPS on a tablet. Everyone must remember the classic "I don't need GPS on a tablet, I have my PHONE for that! " All the way to blasting people for being upset with Asus for a fairly major screw-up. That was the argument: Who needs GPS on a tablet? Like we who made a huge fuss were being "fussy"
Here's where us "Fussy GPS lovers " get a huge laugh, as all of a sudden, the majority of posts are "Bring it, Asus! " and "Can't WAIT TO TRY THIS! "
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I even remember Demandarin saying a few times "GPS is a dead issue, get over it." (which always got me steamed)
But now... everyone wants their dongle. Granted, there are still plenty who could give a rats ass about any of this. I am just having my moment of childish glee, and if you think thats immature, then all I have to say is:
Neah neah ne neah neah!!!
Oh, almost forgot - Where the hell is my GPS Kit? Wait, let me guess... They ran out (since all Asus needs to do is make enough to cover shipped units, and we all know Asus can't count) and now they are on backorder.

GPS is a not-issue for me. I'll continue to use my phone because my car is setup with a phone holder and everything.
I will tell you I'll take ANYTHING (within reason of course) for FREE! That is why I say Give Me, Give Me, Give Me. If Asus sold the GPS kit I would not buy it.
I'm just curious how a GPS dongle is supposed to fix all the other problems with the Prime? I think this is more of a gimmick than anything else. I believe Asus is trying to pull a fast one on us. Don't be fooled!!!

Let me add an analogy : It's as if we all bought brand new top of the line BMW's and come to find out they all have an oil leak, transmission leak, and a broken cigarette lighter. So when we took it to the shop to have it fixed, BMW gave us all a brand new add on cigarette lighter "for free!!!" to "fix" the broken one. And now you are all happy, even made a thread about it.
I love my prime, it's arguably the best tablet on the market. GPS is not the focal point of this product its so much more than a navigation tool. But Asus really should fix the wifi and reboots.
I didn't mean this post as disrespect to the OP.

Awesome! Now my right hand wont be jealous of my left any more....

your analogy is flawed, the GPS dongle makes the prime not a prime, as it adds extra bulk to it.... your BMW gets everything FIXED, while keeping the initial structure, the prime doesnt. it needs a add-on dongle.

Wait why do you need GPS while watching....TV?
To be an accurate analogy BMW would take a large spoiler and add it too the front of the car, fill it with butane, make it detachable, make people stop driving to attach and remove it, and make it cover the headlights so you can't use both the lighter and headlights at the same time.

LOL!!!! So funny that you used BMW as an example. They are horrible.....horrible...when it comes to a recall.
I have owned 9 BMW's (5 of them ///M cars....4 M3's and an Mcoupe) and have club raced with the national BMW CCA, so I am very familiar with their Customer Service....lol.
My 2001 M3 took 3 years for BMW to recall and fix the main bearings......thats a big deal.
My 1995 M3 had the rear shocks push thru the sheet metal in the trunk due to a weak design. Never acknowledged by bmw.
My 2000 M coupe has a reputation for the spot welds in the trunk to start tearing.....never acknowledged.....also a BIG deal.
My 2002 bmw 325 has a problem with the subframe mounts tearing in the rear, and front shock towers showing stress cracks.....never recalled....lol
I could go on.....
That is why the Mcoupe is getting a rest this race season, and the Lotus Exige S is getting the crap run out of it....
BMW makes Asus look like mother Teresa.
I know, I know, it was just an example, but I just found it kinda funny.
Sorry......go on with the bora-phyll

Even though I'm on the "GPS is unnecessary side", this post was hilarious.
Meh gps. There are more pressing software issues with the prime that need to be fixed asap.
The dongle is great and even though i dont use GPS i'd get the dongle if its free. Its just nice to have the option.
Anyways i'm good. Prime was the best purchase i made in a long time and me and my wife are having great fun with it Basically planned our whole weeding on it Its just so much more convenient sitting on a couch and handle stuff instead of being bound to a laptop/pc on a table with mouse and everthing.

The only time I get interested in planning the wedding is when we use the Prime together. Now if we could figure a way to use the GPS during our planning , it would be a win win....

You know - you're aren't forced to read threads... and you'd think with a title like one this thread has - you probably should have heard loud warning bells...
Yet you read it anyway.
*Just to complain*.. just like the guy who posted the original post in it.
In other words, you're actually making his post jump to the top - making more people read it - and actually doing what you're complaining about.
Have you considered getting councilling for this clearly self-destructive psychological problem?
EDIT: I suspect most people here don't think XDA is ruined at all or in any way by one thread or even one subject. Drama Llama much?
I'm closing this thread not because I agree or disagree with you, but because the last thing this section needs is another flame fest / spam thread. Your opinion has been stated. In the future, try posting it in one of the other dozen or so GPS threads in this section.
That is all.
