[Q] archos 70 hdmi

hey does the archos 70 have full hdmi output?
im thinking about getting one.
mini-HDMI
It is mini-HDMI, you have to buy a mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter in order to use it as a full HDMI.
cheers.
I have used a mini to full size HDMI adapter on mine that I got from Radio Shack. Works great once you get used to using the Archos as a track pad while the picture is on screen.

[Q] Problem with Archos 101 USB port and external HHD

I have looked around on here and cant find an answer....
My friend just bought a A101. He used a external hard drive once (Seagate Portable Drive, 500GB) After he connected it the first time, it has never worked since....
Does anyone know what would cause this, or how to fix it? He even has already reformatted both and did a factory reset on the A101...
Thanks for any help
Hi,
that happened some of us when we upgraded to FM 2.071.
I called Archos and advised me to send it for repair.
Regards.
Javier-
Did they say they would charge you for it? Have you sent it in yet or received it back? Just ordered a Seagate 500gb HD and now I'm a little worried.

I had the same issue, sent it in for repair, came back faster then ever, but now looking at same problem
This sounds more like an underpowered usb port, rather than a failed usb port.
The usb port only supplies 200ma power, most hdd require 500ma, especially if you are powering said hdd off the port.
I suggest installing SDE, then installing UrukDroid 1.0, then look in the UrukDriod dev forum for Sibere's V10 kernel - it raises the ma from 200 to 500, but even then, it's not a 'complete' fix - the port seems to share power with the display.
Good luck!
Question:
Has the Seagate 500GB external portable HDD worked properly before it was connected to the A101IT.... like were there any problems whatsoever with it being connected to a laptop/desktop at all??
If the portable HDD HAS worked then you have a guaranteed FUBAR USB port, period! I actually had the same problem and I thought the problem lied with my Western Digital 500GB external portable USB-powered HDD because it was working with my A101IT for a long time then one day my A101IT couldn't find my WD HDD when it was connected. I then disconnected it from my A101IT and found that when I reconnected my WD HDD back to my laptop that there really was no problem with my WD HDD at all, it was the USB port on the A101IT! Also you can plug a thumb drive/usb stick with like 1 GB+ that has stuff like documents, movies, music, etcetera on it and if the information on the thumb drive still doesn't come up after you have connected it to your A101IT the problem is a definite A101IT USB Port problem.
P.S. - By the way, reformatting the entire A101IT AND upgrading/downgrading to a newer/older firmware will also not work.
usb problem

[Q] SSD upgrade on 101/70 possible?

Can this be done?
At least on 101, is the software tied to the HDD SN as in the past? That's what stopped me from buying an Archos, so far.
Wouldn't be great replacing the HDD with a SSD drive? I bet the battery life would be awesome!
On the 70 maybe a hardware mod, connecting a 1.8" SSD with adapter directly to the USB port.
Any hidden/internal not connected USB ports?
Some might say I'm daydreaming but any of the above would really increase the value of the two Archos models.
A101 does not contain any kind of a harddrive, it just has 8 or 16 GB of flash storage (system is communicating to it like it is a MMC/SD card).
So there is no way of doing the upgrade?
What about the 70H? Can a HDD swap/upgrade be done?
Thanks!
Is the A70H the one with the 250GB HDD? If so, open the device and check what kind of HDD it is (Serial ATA? 1.8" or 2.5"?) and then you can decide whether it's replaceable or not.

I'm sorry if I didn't explain properly: I'm interested in buying a 70, would love having the big storage, except I don't trust the moving parts inside.
So what I would do is take out the HDD (BTW: I saw a photo somewhere it's a 2.5"SATA Seagate) and install a SSD. This way I don't have to worry about the moving parts, shocks, etc.
With the old models, Archos used to lock down the device by checking the SN of the HDD and if it wouldn't match the original one, it wouldn't boot.
There were people that went to the extent of buying a specific brand/model of HDD that had a hack to change the SN/name/model, etc.
That's what made me wonder if this is still the case or we can swap/upgrade the drives now.
On the 70S we can try with a small 1.8" SSD and a USB adapter by soldering the whole thing inside on the USB port.
If we could find some other unused/not connected USB port would be even better.

[Q] HW Touchscreen defect with G9 101 Turbo 1.5Ghz?

Hi folks,
Has anyone ever had touchscreen issues with the 101 G9 Turbo?
I have a very simular issue to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458555&highlight=multitouch
I recently purchased two Archos G9 101 Turbo (1.5Ghz) tablets both had the same touchscreen defect. Video shown has "Developer options, Show touches" enabled. http://youtu.be/V5OYq9E5j1I
Anything more than a gentle touch on the screen will cause a number of additional touches in the surrounding area. Even holding the tablet from the rear using one hand will cause this problem.
I never had this problem with the original G9 101...
Is this normal or a genuine hardware defect?
I'm trying to work out if I should return them and get a replacement or go for a refund
Thanks
-Richard
I have a new 101 G9 Turbo and have no similar touch screen issues.
Sounds like a HW issue to me.
Sent from my ARCHOS 101 G9 16GB Turbo using XDA app

Is your model a 1.5Ghz/512Mb or 1.2Ghz/512Mb ? have you had it long?
Thanks
-Richard
As per my signature, it's 1.5GHz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 16Gb Flash. Had it about 2 weeks (bought to replace a smashed 80G9 non-turbo!)
Sent from my ARCHOS 101 G9 16GB Turbo using XDA app
Thanks.
I took them back to HMV they brought out another tablet with a very different serial number but again it had the same fault.
Might have to try a different store

Touchscreen defect
Already got two Archos 101G9 Turbos with same problem.
Waiting for third device under guarantee. I hope this is a hardware bug from one batch.
Waiting already 8 weeks for new device, according to Archos ´waiting for spare parts to repair´.
Sounds they know what the problem is and dont swap for a new one.
Fingers crossed.

Frank are yours also the 8Gb model?
I think it only affects recent (2012?) 8GB 1.5Ghz Turbo models with ICS pre-installed.
I've managed to get two older 16GB 1.5Ghz Turbo's with Honeycomb which are un-affected, they feel much more rigid and dont flex.

Richard, I have the Archos 101g9 250Gb Turbo. I tried ICS pre-installed version, ICS rooted version, Android 3.2.
All the same problem.
It looks like software/driver problem because the screen rotates when I rotate the tablet when the touchscreen is not working.
Maybe if the tablet is hot, or busy, or coming back from stand-by. I cant find a cause yet, and now its already for two months at Archos for guarantee

For those who experience problems with the lcd screen of there Archos, I can tell you why this happens.
I have an Archos 101 g9 250 gb Tablet. I now experience problems with my screen. When I press the bottom of the tablet the screen flickers, All kind of colors show.
My warranty is over, I contacted archos in France, China (manufacturer). No reply at all.
I found out that this is an problem that happens a lot with Archos tablet.
So what to do now. I opened it, checked the yellow ribbon that connects the lcd screen to the hardware of the tablet. See the pictures. After some fiddling I found out that the ribbon has a weak part.
The ribbon is made out of two parts. The connection to the lcd screen is 40 pin, while the ribbon itself is 20 pin. They soldered the 40 pin to the 20 pin. Where it is soldered together some pins are broken.
This 40 pin connection is on the bottom of the lcd screen. So, when you press on the bottom of the tablet, you automatically press on the connection.
I tried to repair it, but I found out that repairing is impossible. It is to small.
And now I can throw the tablet away.
My name is Reinier from the Netherlands.

[Q] Need some help with accu and soldering

Guys, the microUSB port on my 101 G9 got broken by an accident.
Looks like It needs a resoldering (and due to double-sided main board it gonna cost some serious $). I removed the port entirely as I dont need PC connectivity.
Is it possible to solder a usb cable directly to BAT-/BAT+ points on the board? Or do I need to connect it to microUSB soldering points to work properly?
//sry for my bad english - I'm from Russia and got hella tired today(
Hi Devl547,
first: Your english is perfect, no need to worry.

Don't attach the USB cable to the battery points on the mainboard. This will damage your mainboard and battery on long term.
Please look at the area around the broken MicroUSB port and search for a green colored component.
This is the fuse for the 5V comming from the port. You might easily find a soldering point in this area as well.
You should use this as the connection to your cable, nothing else!
If you are unsure, i'll post a picture.
Best regards,
scholbert
Thanks. Actually, I have already soldered a usb cable to microusb soldering points ( nightmare difficulty :3 ).
Looks like it works perfectly, but I think I'd better buy a new Archos tablet next month and use my old one indoor as a internet/video terminal.
Hi. Can you please upload a Picture from the Solder Points how i must solder the 4 wires from a USB Cable? Thank you very much!

Hi scholbert!
If you still read this, I'd really appreciate that picture as my micro usb socket came loose and currently I can't charge my Archos G9 101 Turbo.
Thanks,

I'm still using my Archos tablets, but i'll need to find my disassembled one to make a better picture i guess
Maybe you're able to locate the camera clip on your mainboard and remove it.
It is located near the micro USB slot...
See this post i made long ago (most informations are valid for the G9 101 as well):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28542261&postcount=41
After you removed the clip you should be able identify the fuse as well.
It is a marked component with a "T" on top.
As told before this is the best place to solder some cable for external charger.
Regards,
scholbert
