This is really killing me, someone please help lol heres how it goes
On boot, takes a good bit for the 3G icon to appear, eventually Phone has 3G icon gray with arrows then switches to D [still gray], i click something like a browser or Slack Radio it goes to connect and if its fast enough it does [icon changes to RED/GREEN arrows] but usually its a gray D, then the icon disappears completely. After about 60 seconds or so the icon reappears and I can continuing surfing the net/listen to music..etc. Then after about a song or 2 this happens all over again. Im in place with good reception and i just dont know what could be going on here. I tried pulling battery, doing the *228 option 2...anyone know how i can fix this
just tried hard reset, no dice
A nice excuse to call verizon and get a replacement device (most likely for free).
I've called them, they try and shoot me over to Samsung, samsung trying to tell me to get a hold of my 3G service provider...verizon did tell me i was due to upgrade, but i love this phone (when 3G worked) i just dont understand what froyo did, when im downloading stuff it works fine, but as soon as I stop and try to access something use 3G i have to wait for the 3G to "reboot" so to speak cuz thats when it disappears for minute, then comes back for me to use...but with streaming music you can see how this is an issue
I was having this same problem when they were pushing the EA28 update a couple of weeks ago which never successfully updated to my device I might add. I went into the Verizon store and after the rep spent about 10min on the phone with whoever.... Told me they were sending me a new phone. Received new phone with the EA28 update already installed 3G and all data worked GREAT! Attempted the Froyo update 6 times yesterday all unsuccessful and now the new phone I have is having the exact same problems with data connection. Comments and ideas would be appreciated. But ya better believe I'm goin into Verizon if the update attempt I'm doing now doesnt work.
I'd get another replacement from verizon tbh. If then it still doesn't resolve your issues ask to speak with a manager and tell him your situation. They might hook you up with a free upgrade.
Im going to go down to the store so I can get a face to face and show them whats happening. I mean i just wanted to make sure this wasnt some new thing on Froyo that im not understanding. I see it goes "D" [dormant] but it shouldnt disappear and take a minute to start up and let me use it right...thats poppycock!
Are you using "juice defender" by any chance?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
You're lucky that yours just takes a minute to re-establish the connection, mine will just keep giving me network errors and telling me to check network access ect., depending on what app/service I am trying to connect. Exactly the same things that happened when the EA28 updates kept failing on my last phone only 2weeks ago. Also the Froyo update that says will take 15min to download takes over an hour even though my 3g stays on constantly when downloading from Verizon.

Had it installed [but not in use] when I updated to Froyo, but I just did a hard reset and am still getting issues...
...my Froyo update came in in about a 1/2 hour or so, no drop issues ever when I was on 2.1, my 3G icon stayed in the status bar even when I was out of service range [it would go in to 1X] but on froyo its just disappearing no matter where i am]
This crap has happened ever since the first "froyo" modem leak for me (but not like I could call vzw and complain though until now) and had to resort to using the DL09 modem to increase my usage reliability by a small percentage. This crappy service only seems to affect people in certain regions, you all see where I live (look to the left) and you guys should update your profiles to reflect at least a region. I odin'd all the way to stock and did the ota's to froyo and ran stock froyo for 2 days with the same old ****ty results. I did get a replacement (in february) and still got the same exact dBm signal levels and data speeds at home that I had with the other device. But the voice mails with no missed calls and bulk texts and data lockups are really getting on my ****in' nerves. I'm so glad they finally did the ota cause I can guarantee that the issue will be wide spread in various regions. I spend all day driving around in a work truck with a coworker that has an epic (sprint) and he has absolute perfection in his service everywhere throughout the city. At the end of a 10 hour day I will have rebooted twice and have tws at 47% coworkers tws will be at 1% and he pays $35 less for unlimited everything, which is a kick in head too. Pondering etf to maintain my sanity and not be worried that my 70 year old mother is trying to call me with an emergency and having my **** go to voicemail. Now on to customer service to build a case. Ugh, pissed off rant over.
*edit* I use no juice defenders no task killers no set cpu or anything even remotely close to apps of that nature.
good day.
Not running juice defender or anything else for that matter, my phone is basically stock out of the box right now other than CWM 2.5.1, un-rooted. I did flash super user to phone after I received it, and that still appears in my apps list after factory reset but I am not rooted.
I've spent at least 8-10 hours [combined] searching the internet for issues like mine with the disappearing act the 3G icon is putting on, and i've noticed it to be a Froyo issue [even saw some complains on the Incredible on froyo and even on different networks other than verizon]. I'm not 100% sure its a Froyo bug, but either way it doesnt seem to affect everyone. I stream music a lot and i can't be having this damn 3G disappear on me and always reconnecting after like every 2 songs.....im off to verizon, i'll let you know what happens [tho they are prob going to offer me some kinda upgrade like they did on the phone, but i was happy with this phone at 2.1 and overall still am, i just want my 3G to stop glitching!]

I agree, just want my 3G to work the way it is suppose to. Dont really want an upgrade because I've never really gotten an upgrade that I actually thought was an UP-Grade. *From Verizon anyway* Still downloading software update, been well over an hour and at 73%. At this rate Verizon store will be closed by the time I'm done with this update attempt.
"UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE. reason: IP_START_UPDATE" Anybody know the possible causes of this failure?
Sounds like you are indeed losing your IP address. I have also had sporadic problems but they seem to be in low service areas. Typically I remain stationary and use local wifi so it is unconfirmed.

Just got back from Verizon, non of the techs could figure it out, i got this phone awhile back from a friend [so naturally theres no warrenty..etc] so im stuck gonna have to hit craigslist and such to find a new one, then sell this one i guess
FINALLY FOUND A FIX [or should i say it found its way to me thanks to myself posting this issue on multiple forums lol] I can confirm that method 2 has worked for me. Dont just dial *228 with fascinate already activated, you have to remove the service completely [by activating another phone is how i did it] then reactivate it and you should be good to go. Heres a write up.

Glad to hear it, i know how frustrating it is not knowing what is going on or how to fix it. I searched since Froyo OTA looking for an answer, luckily someone saw my plight and gave me that link as well so i thought i'd share it on all the android forums i have a name on. Cuz doin this never occurred to me and i tried everything else lol
I searched signal loss, and dropped signal but could not find a thread that matched my problem. I have found some people with similar problems through google search but I haven't seen any fixes.
Here we go...
I got my first atrix BRAND NEW in July. It ran perfect! Updated to GB, factory reset it and everything was working great. Couple weeks later it started doing random restarts. It got to the point where it would lock up at the M logo for 10-20 min or sometimes even constantly so I would have to pull the battery. It got so bad that I had to take it in for warranty. I had this phone for over a month with NO signal problems what so ever.
I get the 1st remanufactured Atrix and it is dropping signal left and right. I called up ATT and jumped through their hoops, turned it off, let them mess with it, factory reset it and NOTHING. Still had the same problem, would go from 3 bars to 4 bars then it will drop signal and the red circle will show up. probably happens about 5 times per minute.
They tell me to take it back, so I oblige. I go up to the warranty center and they give me a new sim card and say that should fix it.... NOPE, Still doing the same exact thing so I take it back up there again. The give me another(#2) remanufactured phone. I finish the setup and guess what... Still have a worthless signal and it is dropping out a lot.
For reference, signals on the first two replacement atrix's are running anywhere from 84dbm up to 120dbm and hangs most of the time around 96dbm.
I am now on my FOURTH remanufactured Atrix(5th overall) and still having the same problem. ATT are being total douche nozzles as they will not release me from my contract. I have spent over 30 hours dealing with them on this problem thus far and I am getting extremely tired of it.
Just for reference, my Wife has an I4 and she is not experiencing any of these problems. I also travel a lot and I experience the same problem in Dallas(home), Midlothian(hour south of Dallas), Washington DC, Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland among other places. I am pretty sure this is a software glitch since it happens wherever I am.
I have a home office and work from home. I told ATT that if this was happening with my original BRAND NEW Atrix that I would have taken it back in a heartbeat. There is not a chance I would deal with losing data and dropping signal for over a month with a brand new phone.
So, my question I guess is this. If this is a software problem, would it be best to try and root and see if that fixes it? Or will that not change a problem like this. The remanufactured phones came with 2.3 installed while my first one had 2.2 and I had to upgrade it myself. Is there a way I can remove 2.3 from this phone and reinstall it to see if that fixes it? I am completely open to suggestions as I have run out of options.
I know exactly what you mean. I also had 3-4 *new* atrixs right from att. (Around late July) Every time instead of addressing the problems, they just gave me a new device. Eventually I decided to root and unlock my bootloader. BEST decision that I could have made. As soon as I installed a different ROM it was as if I had a new device. I was about to exchange it for a different device and now I'm really glad that I didn't. For the signal issues I would try flashing a new radio to see if that helps at all.

My first atrix was like that and it was a refurbished one. On my 2nd, it is completely fine. I think you should tell them to send you NEW atrix instead of a refurb.
that sounds like really terrible luck. i a agree, i think it would help a lot if you rooted your phone and installed some custom rom. although there may be truth with what Semseddin and might actually still be something awry with the refurbs

Unfortunately I have tried to get them to send me a new phone but they will not do it. I tried several times, even talked to the managers about it and nothing.
What is ridiculous is that when my first phone crashed I was only like 14 days past the return period where I could have received a NEW Atrix. I tried explaining this too them and they would not do anything to help me. I have been with Cingular/ATT for over 10 years and they obviously didn't care.
I think i will just try a new rom and see how that goes.
Hmm..well if you've absolutely made up ur mind on rooting ur phone and installing custom roms then i would recommend u to use the DarkSide ROM since it seems to have most of the fixes u need (including the signal loss..See ChangeLog for more)
Also, if u've already tried Randomverll's idea of flashing a new radio and still it didn't help, it may be a hardware problem..anyway try flashing a new rom and see
Can anybody tell me if hey have a problem with their prime not coming on after it has been left on with the screen closed for some time?
If I close the screen down on mine and leave it for a hour when I open the screen up it doesn't come on and I have to hold the power button down for about 20 seconds before it then boots up as if it had been turned off.
I've tried the "cold" boot and I've tried a system restore but still the problem occurs. Other than that i have no issues with the prime I don't have a need for the
GPS and so thats never been an issue for me.
I'v got a stock 32gb prime and I'm running the latest firmware for the UK

Thanks for the link ill try out those tips
You may want to check this out as well. People reported it helped with their sleep of death http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674551
Mine too. And none of those 'tips' worked. I use my TFP for at least 10 hours every day. It's a workhorse and it does the job. Best machine I've ever had. But it has all the bugs others report as well. Browser crashes. Yes. Reboots. Yes. Laggy browser. Yes. Games bombing, yes. Poor wi-fi range and data speed. Yes. Battery time down to a few hours. I'm fed up with the so-called 'fixes'. Most cause other problems. Every time an update is hinted at, I think, 'Great.' But the update rarely seems to arrive. How many weeks has the current one been in 'beta'? I doubt that we will ever see it. It obviously hasn't done what they hoped and we will see another beta going out for test.
Early days yet but after disabling the MobilDock Battery saving mode I left mine in standby overnight opened up this morning and it was working ....like I said early days but hope springs eternal.
thanks for all the suggestions though guys, appreciate it
hi.. I sent a request into support for ANR and this was their reply.. I asked what exactly does it wipe and no response.. does anyone know what this wipes? will I need to restore my apps?
thanks in advance
"For this issue, I suggest you refer to the following steps to Wipe Data. Please back up all of your personal information before proceeding. 1. Press and hold down power button until the system shuts down. 2. Remove the SD card from Eee Pad. 3. Press and hold down Volume down button first, and then press and hold down the Power button until the screen below appears. =4. Do not press any buttons until the screen below appears. 5. Theres a line Press <Vol_Up> to execute, <Vol_Down> to cancel wiping data. Press Volume Up button to execute the Wipe Data. 6. After the Wipe Data process is done, it will reboot automatically. Then Eee Pad should be able to enter the system successfully. If your could still not solve your problem after my suggestion, you had better to contact the nearest service center. Here is the phone number: 1-888-678-3688 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can demonstrate the problem directly to our professional engineers and there is no doubt that they will help you to resolve your issue."
don't bother
I did this and it resets it to factory state.. all data & apps gone.. still getting browser ANR messages.. don't waste your time with this procedure.. back to Asus on the issue..

I got into ROMs with my original Evo and it was not fun keeping up to date.. I am at a point where I just want a device I can use.. I still have my iPad 2 if I get tired of this although I am not interested in that.. I want Asus more to admit they have a issue and step up to the plate
Just curious,
Those of you guys who get frequent ANR's, how many tabs have you got open and what website(s) were you surfing. I rarely get ANR's, the last one I had on (stock)browser was couple of months back.
Have had it happen with one tab to many.. have had it happen with XDA .. happened yesterday after the reset on listingbook a few times.. also is not only browser related.. happened to my e-mail app yesterday also.. it pretty much is not cool anymore.. I thought it would have been fixed with the updates but six months later I'm not feeling it anymore..
I normally have 5 tabs opened on my usual daily surfing activities. At the time of writing this, I have twelve tabs. Usually range from heavy flash to hotmail to gmail to yahoo mail plus facebook and webupd8 and google news with tuneinradio running at the background.
I am just intrigued if there are actually particular heavy websites that may cause these anr's.
just got nailed on ebay.. only have stock browser installed and it won't let me load the screenshot I took
nailed again.. same page on e-bay after I did wait.. scrolled to the bottom of page and locked up again.. took another screenshot..
screenshots from yesterday and just now.. had to load Opera to upload them here.. stock browser does nothing when you try to do it from there..
@sdynak
Maybe you should try some of the mods in dev section and see if any improvements (ie. build prop (demandarin) - sio/tune.sh(batoo) - kernel pack which contains other schedulers (saturn))
I had tried browser2 ram with no positive results.. I really don't want to mod as I want to maintain warranty just in case something else happens.. I just feel Asus should step up to the plate.. spent way too much $ for a device like this.. I appreciate the advice.. I'll see if Asus makes good first.
saga continues.. I sent Asus a link to this page..
locked up just doing updates after the wipe
another trying to read local news on burglaries.. app.com.. think I have a reason to complain???
browser2ram 'fixes' this problem for 99%..
and this points out what the problem is here: browser has problem with caching on disk... IO problems...
im only getting anrs when downloading torrents with ttorrent at the same time, i do think this is an issue because id expect 4 cores to be able to handle this workload, definately when seeing the gaming power of this device
anyhow, im just hoping this is software and we will get improvements with firmware
btw when getting an anr i just click 'wait' and then i can simply continue using the browser or whatever app?
I just can't believe how bad this is.. I mean I just did a reset to factory.. does anyone else have this severity or do I really have a issue with my device? Has been like this for 6 months now.. I have been waiting for an update up to this point and now feel it will not be fixed that way.. these are just a few more while I have many more screenshots.. even the app launcher..
While trying to ck out the N7 funny I get a ANR on their website

Welcome to the club, the ANR issue is probably the biggest complaint from users on XDA Prime forums at this moment in time. Unfortunately, Asus are about as useful as being given a fork to eat soup with and can't fix the issue. Apparently .28.5 and .29 beta firmwares were supposed to address these issues but some beta testers have reported still experiencing ANRs.
The Prime will never perform as it should, let alone perform as it should in an appropriate time frame. The TF700 and TF300 also suffer from the same issues, confirming that Asus are more than happy to release their devices in such a bad state.
Ok.. I knew I wasn't alone but was not sure if the severity was worse for me.. I am intentionally using the stock browser to show Asus the issues.. the problem is it is not just the browser as can be seen from my screenshots..
Was not aware the 300 & 700 suffer from the same.. wonder if the Nexus does also?
My hope was to see if Asus would replace with a diff product but now seems useless to take that route..
This is the exact reason I won't unlock.. there are issues with this device and I'm afraid the software is not going to resolve then I am stuck regardless and have no case. I think that is why Asus finally released the unlock tool. They know there are problems and the easiest way to deny someone warranty.
What a shame.. my first Asus device and my last unless they significantly change my opinion.. I was proud at first but feeling a little dooped lately..
Hey guys, I'm on hour 2... or is it 3? I don't know. I'm watching Stargate Atlantis back to back on amazon while re-installing venom (after setting DPI to low on a sense install). This isn't my first time around the block with aroma fails while installing venom, i know it will work.. eventually.
Figured I'd chat it up with others in the same boat, or just create a place to talk about it, either way, welcome! Season 4 episode 2 if you were wondering (just finished up all 10 seasons of sg1 last month, best-show-ever)
Ive tried keeping the phone flat, holding it up, doing a full wipe, non wipe, sense, non sense. I even tried standing on 1 foot with the phone on top of my head, while I spun around in circles changing "A-RO-MA,. A-RO-MA..." (I heard that worked by the way). Unfortunately, still nothing. However, I AM confident that this NEXT one will be the one that works, okay.. maybe the next next one

Have you tried using the volume up and down buttons and the power button to navigate in aroma? I haven't had a single problem as long as you go slow. :good:
I actually haven't tried that. lemme give it a shot but will that help it not fail during the installation? It gets anywhere from 8% to 81% . It just seems to hang, randomly, during the extraction/installation process. its only failed 3 or 4 times on the button presses.
Another tip is to hold the phone upright...my friend has the DNA and it took about 4 times to install 1.1... Just go slowly and go very with the touches if you're going to use the touch screen
I was lucky and twice had to install viper and had zero problems.
Weird for you guys. Both my installs were flawless the first go around

I ended up getting it to install. finally.. I think the "hold it upright" and "go slow" are just placebos. i held the thing upright, went really slow, put it flat on a table, went slow, nothing. Went fast.. nothing..
I'm not sure what the going slow thing has to do with it, or why people think it has some magical powers. The install is not getting stuck during the menu selection. It gets stuck during the extraction of files. Essentially, its entirely random. There might be some merit to the "hold it upright" as someone mentioned it could be an accelerometer, but I found this to be inconsistent as well.
When it finally did install. I had done nothing different than the last 5 or 6 attempts. The phone lays flat on my desk, I push through the install options, then when it starts to install I just leave it there and go back to watching my show. Then.. it just worked, like I said, did nothing different.
As an engineer, my "spidey" sense tells me its a clocking issue (not the processor clock speed). Often when getting hardware to communicate properly during a prototyping phase of development, we (as in I) can run into issues with clock causing internment problems that are difficult to track down. Sometimes the leading edge of the voltage high is dirty (not sharp) and can result in a missed bit. The problem I'm seeing with aroma leads me to think that somewhere, somehow, the installation is losing sync with something.
Without knowing more about how aroma works, there really isn't a way for me to trouble shoot the problem. I'm not a software guy either.
So.. here's some interesting info. I work with a ton of smart guys. A lot of them have android phones, run linux on their machines, program crazy things or whatever. But I am the only one I know of in my research group, or most of the people on campus that roots and roms his phones. Almost every time I mention it to a colleague, they have no clue what a "rom" even is, and they think rooting a phone is "jail-breaking". Anyway, i've always thought that was weird. I figured nerds were nerds, guess not

Same here. Nobody I know knows about roms except for my girlfriend who has a jailbroken iPad and my roommate who has a rooted GS3.
Anyway, I SWEAR going slow helps. It doesn't always keep it from freezing but it definitely helps. I really don't think it's placebo. I usually wait about 3 seconds between presses no matter what. Also are you telling Aroma to do a full wipe? I'm not sure if it matters but I always do that manually and tell Aroma no since I don't think that does anything on TWRP anyway.
Did you get it working?
