"Who said they cannot return their products for the GPS issue? If the user did not cancel his order after the announcement, refuse shipment, return the product or contact us for a refund due to the GPS being pulled then what would you say of the user? And also, I would be careful about believing everything you read as those statements might be from a member of the law team. "
Quote from Gary Key
So, has anyone successfully received a full refund by Asus? If so, any info on where/how to receive such refund? Any info will be great.....
I bought my tablet from gamestop Gary mentioned that he could help getting a refund but I never heard anything else from him.
I would also like information on a refund. I rather wait for something that works 100%. At this point I don't know if I should wait n see how the law suit turns out, I have a feeling that something good will happen for us customers.
Subscribed. I am interested in this too.

Yes, five years from now we'll get offered a $10 coupon for a new ASUS product, whether or not we actually suffered any damages. The plaintiff's lawyers will get millions.

I don't think they will get millions. More like it might just turn into class action lawsuit. Have you heard about the class action lawsuit against iPhone 4.

Contacted Gary, yesterday, about getting a full refund from Asus, . Explained I could live with light bleed and sub-par wifi performance. Expecting Asus to fix the GPS issue, I kept my Prime past the Bestbuy 14 day window. I believe in getting what was advertised at time of purchase, which was GPS, not Limited GPS or Hamstrung GPS. Instead, as we all know, Asus has swept the issue under the rug and this is one thing I cannot live with.
I have contacted Asus about a refund and so far the only resolution they have offered is to set up an RMA...............do they now have a fix for the GPS?

As already said, those interested in refunds should publicize Gary Key's comments more widely to other blogs and hold him accountable for his offer. A follow-up with CNet's Eric Franklin, author of the CNet interview, should be a first step. Do not take no for an answer; get off your fat butt to get a response yourself, instead of waiting for somebody else to do the work for you. Don't be a coward, it's your money.
With the ongoing suit, if you don't get an affirmative response from Gary Key or Asus, you can also contact the plaintiff's attorneys to assist them in their discovery effort. Reneging on a public offer of refund would be fairly damaging evidence.
For those late to the party, Gary Key, Technical Marketing Manager of Asus, has a standing refund offer for anyone dissatisfied with the GPS performance in their Transformer Prime, in the recent (Feb 17, 2012) CNet interview.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57373634-94/putting-the-transformer-prime-in-perspective/
"We discovered that due to the all-aluminum unibody design structure, the GPS performance was not satisfactory for all users, especially those wanting to use the device as a true GPS and not in aGPS mode. We took the only step possible in this case and removed GPS from the official specifications shortly after the unit went on sale. We apologized for this inconvenience and offered to assist users who wanted to return the unit after the announcement." [emphasis added]
Gary was quick to hook me up with a refund maybe you guys just arnt complaining enough and you have to act like me lol

Yes dock and taxes I made a copy of receipts from both and put then both in a box and used the fedex label they setup for me.
Figured it's the weekend and from the sounds of it, I'm sure Gary could use a break.
Will give him a couple of days to respond before contacting him again !

I guess it depends on how you look at it. First, Apple defended their position. Then they caved and offered a bumper case that, with shipping, probably cost them $5. From the lawsuit, they'll be paying iP4 users $15 cash. It's hard to identify how many have been sold but let's guess 50MM. Assuming 35MM file a claim; Apple will pay out $525MM. Which do you think they'll take in to consideration when developing, testing, and releasing future products? Some flak from customers which they originally denied? Or, half a billion dollars in lost profit? Apple was hoping antenna-gate would just die down on its own, the lawsuit(s) kept it visible and in the public eye. For a company that prides itself on design, that was probably a bigger hit than the dollars.
Long story short, these suits rarely net big bucks for the plaintiffs but they're a hell of a lot better than allowing $1B companies to self-police themselves which led Apple (and Asus) to reach their original determinations that "there was nothing wrong." And there’s a difference between the Apple and Asus cases. The iP4 had to be held in a specific and awkward position to have the problem occur. GPS on the Prime is just FUBAR and so is wireless on some devices. Remedies vary depending on severity so it’s not unheard of for refunds or exchanges to be offered where problems greatly impact usability.

If you're going to use pics to make your points, can you at least resize them? It's a mobile device forum and your pics take up 3/4 of the display.
Anyway, you'll be the first in line to exchange your used Prime for a new TF700 if that's offered as an option and will gladly except free money if that too is an option. So will everyone here whether they're for or against a lawsuit. So, lighten up on the hypocrisy.

Some recent rumours have broken and we are seeing an intriguing "good news, bad news" story. According to a couple of sources, HP is cancelling the current HP TouchPad orders that haven't shipped yet. That's the bad news. The good news is that the reason they are cancelling it is because they are going to retract their initial discontinuation of the product line, and re-continue it (plus they are completely out of stock as well).
In some ways this isn't that great, because the opportunity to get a decent tablet for the low-low price of £99 dollars is slipping away. Now, after seeing the relative success of the product with folks that either want a really cheap tablet, or folks that want to put Android on it, HP wants to revive it from the dead. Who knows... they may consider working out a licensing deal to get Android on it from Google. Of course, that is pure speculation at this point.

Highly sceptical.
Now, where is my BS meter?
I can't really see this happening... Then again, HP has kindof played the role of the Joker from Batman, by just burning money. Who discounts a tablet from $500 to $99... Seriously.
The Touchpad would have sold if they had discounted it to $250, I think. Its not that crippled, its just a young OS with some drawbacks that have not properly been addressed. Is the Playbook any better at this point?
I don't see HP getting back into anything, unless its at the lowball entry. Most of us would have never paid $500/$600 for this tablet, but $99 is a steal. A flat out steal. At $150 its a steal. And once a stable Android port makes its way (EVEN GINGERBREAD) this tablet will be amazing. WebOS is dying a slow death, albeit delayed by the sudden influx of users.

OP's posting sounds more like a ploy started by the desperate sellers on ebay and the like that are stuck with touchpads they are trying to sell and no one wanting them at their overpriced askings. $250 would sound cheap if they were going to start making them again at full price.

The CNN article provides absolutely no evidence that HP is considering producing more. The closest it gets is this quote from HP Spokesman Budgell's faq on his blog:
Q: When is HP getting more HP TouchPads? One week, two weeks, a month?
We will have more information available in the next few days about whether or not more will be available and if so, what the details will be about the situation.

And even then, it doesn't make any suggestions about whether the available Touchpads would be from another production run, or from shipments returning from retailers.
As far as that Tracy and Matt website is concerned, if you dig into their forum post about the "rumors", it's based off a Facebook post by a Lee-Anne James, who is apparently a hairdresser.

Yes, that's the quality of the Facebook snapshot they provided. If you zoom is really far, you can read it. This rumor may turn out to be true, but I don't see any legitimacy in it as of now.
If you look at the simple economics here there is no way HP can continue to make new TouchPads. Remember, the hardware alone was determined to be worth approximately $320 by iSuppli (http://www.isuppli.com/Teardowns/News/Pages/HP-TouchPad-Carries-$318-Bill-of-Materials.aspx) who is the industry leader in doing price breakdowns. And that doesn't count NRE (non-recurring engineering costs of development), marketing, support, etc. HP could NEVER sell these devices at the original pricepoint again, not after they've sold half a million or more at $99/$149. They're losing too much money. The Touchpads that were already built or were already in the supply chain are a sunk cost but there won't be anymore after those are expended. Some are probably on a boat from China which is where the additional quantities come from.
I do this stuff for a living, I know how it works (I'm a production engineer).
Hp claims to be losing 100 mil on the tablets. Figure half of each model,so assume 125 each from sales. Thats assumption was said to assume 400 per tablet. Depending on if you count about 100 from each tablet or not, thats 25 to 30 million tablets. Best buy had 250k. how many have been sold is the question. (for comparison, there are around 30 million ipads sold,it may end ,at least for a short time, being the # 2 tablet)
As for them resuming production,i really doubt it. At best I could see them going for the low end with a cheap small screen discount tablet, but I would not hold my breath

Yup, which is why it's a rumor and they said "might", never claimed it was a fact, just that it's "Interesting".

With the Kindle 2 and Nook Color 2 around the corner, HP's wisest move was canceling their 7" tablet before a production run.
I'm not even going to click on that link. The story is bogus, flat out.

Exactly, even if they started selling them at cost it would be no different than before the firesale. Its a nice tablet, but if I'm going to spend that much there are far better choices currently available. I just don't believe they will ever be in production again.
well i'm travelling to malaysia next week so i'm expecting to see hundreds of hb touchpods at the various markets.
HP is losing way too much money to even consider starting to make these again, and people would laugh them out of business if they even tried to price these anymore than what they've been fireselling for.
After Bestbuy messed up my preorder three times, was going to processed my order, had 2 simultaneous tf201 orders on Que, they were almost ready to be ship but at the end BB run out of stock and they just simply apologized by email, I got no rebates, incentives or any coupon of any kind for all my trouble as they promised. After 40 days literally fighting trying to get my tf201(gray or champagne w/ dock), reading all complains and issues about the rushed tf201, and after seeing my brand new tf101 power button starting to failed(getting loose just after 1 week of use) I decided to give up with asus tablets. it might be just bad luck but will definitely wait for acer, lenovo or even apple, whoever releases a new tegra 3 tablet or ipad 3 device will get my money. At the end I already have a tf101 and ipad2. Does anybody know if rooting a tf101 will void asus warranty?

DUDE! NO WAY!!! AWESOME!!! I wish I had one
I bought one of those big Rice Krispie Treat bars. It was teh yum! I am, however, not buying the Cool Ranch Doritos chips. After first finding out that they vending machine company increased the price of the chips to $.90 I was really frustrated. But, having worked out a deal with a coworker I was able to scrounge up the extra change and purchase the chips. Upon punching in the numbers I realized that the were mislabeled and instead, I got a granola bar. This was very frustrating as I don't live in Colorado and I don't eat granola. At this point I went and complained to the receptionist who told me there wasn't anything she could do about it. After about 10 minutes of sobbing in the fetal position, a different employee walking in the door dropped $1 off at my feet and told me to go "get a hot chocolate." I said thanks, but obviously had no intention of getting a stupid hot chocolate. I returned to the vending machine and found that the dollar was very wrinkled and it took me nearly 15 minutes to get it to work in the machine. By this time I was just about ready to give up. Miraculously, the dollar was accepted. With a full $1 credit in the machine, I decided to buy some Fritos.

sorry to hear about bad experience but if you think Acer products are built any better you are mistaken. just go with the closed ecosystem of ipad3 and become a zombie chained and at the mercy of what Apple wants you to do with your device. whenever it comes to apple products, although well built, its whatever they say and think goes. no freedom to do as you please with your tablet. even if you jailbrake, that's only to do half the things Android does right out the box. o have an Ipad n love it but in no way compares to the power, quality, and overall mulitfunctions that the Prime brings.
good luck..Addios Amigo

Hi, I know many of you have seen the statement ASUS provided on facebook.
But Asus has made another statement and its published over Taiwan's Media conference. A brief summary of the article.
Asus made an announcement during the Taiwan Media conference earlier today, stating that the medal casing of the Transformer prime affects the GPS signal. All popular Tablets sold in the world with metal casing design don't even have GPS built in, but Asus decided to take on the challenge and include the GPS functionality though the result is compromised. The majority of the buyer accept the design and decision. And for the small portion of buyer that requires uncompromised GPS experience, Asus is willing to take the responsibility and allow Users to return the device or extend the warranty for another 6 months. And for those who want to have uncompromised GPS functionality, Asus will be releasing the 3G version of transformer prime, which is not made out of metal casing.
Keep in mind though this is an announcement made in Taiwan, I don't know if it applies to other users in the world as well, I assume that it is.

Where is a link to this source of information? It sounds too good to be true but if it is true this is the best thing they could have done and I am satisfied with this.
So assuming this applies worldwide, I wonder if we automatically get the extended 6 months warranty or have to somehow apply for it.

Central News Agency correspondent Pan Zhiyi Taipei January 6, 2012) Tablet PC for consumers worried about satellite navigation (GPS) function can not play, ASUS (2357), said vice president Lin Zongliang, all-metal shell of the Tablet PC does not feature a GPS receiver well, returns to consumers interested in receiving returns indefinitely.
Lin Zongliang today Asus press conference pointed out that due to all-metal enclosure tablet affect the antenna's reception, the world's best-selling tablet PCs, as long as the all-metal shell models simply no GPS functions, ASUS try to make sure that these models remain the GPS function, the majority of consumer those who have accepted such a design, but there are still many consumers that must have affected GPS functionality, the ASUS brand and responsible attitude, consumer acceptance of such return, or extend the warranty for six months.
He said that the whole impact of the metal shell of the tablet PC antenna signal, other manufacturers who adopt all-metal design, it completely does not support GPS function, especially in the car using GPS more vulnerable.
The new 3G version of the next non-full-metal tablet, is expected to have a good GPS.

and extended 6 month warranty for people who don't return it. That is a pretty nice perk.
Cool.. I plan to print that page and get that "extended" warranty in some sort of printable fashion I can show just in case I ever care to make an issue of the GPS and actually send it back. Here it is in Google translate for English
I planed this whole time to let the more impatient guys willing to send theirs back send theirs back and see what they report for a "fix" upon return.

SquareTrade is $60 for two years, that "perk" is worth $30.
I wonder how long they'll extend the return period. It says "indefinitely" in that translated copy, but I kind of doubt it will actually be extended. However, knowing I can return the thing for at least a few months would certainly give me some piece of mind.

I called them the first week I got mine about the GPS and got an RMA. I never used it, but I wanted a record of my call and complaint topic so there could be more ammo in my claim if I decide in several months to change my mind and send it in.

But I'm guessing that policy is for the Taiwan selling region, not for Asus Global. You guys should hit the Asus Rep that's joined the forum recently up to get him to clarify their position for the U.S.
The Lepan TC970 also has an aluminum casing and metal handlebars on the sides and yet it is able to lock on to the gps sats (4/8) in the basement of a two storey building. The Anandtech article mentioned high SNR would could be internally generated by the quad core circuitry. I have not seen any tests conducted on the prime without the casing so I will reserve any conclusion on the root cause of the problem.
So this is kinda "it is what it is" if you don't like it return it.
I guess it rules out any option that they will modify the back plate for us to eventually make it work - oh well. It would be a fair option to offer a new 3G version as a replacement to us early adopters that bought a prime based on this advertised spec when they come out.

I am going to call ASUS and ask how to apply for this (extended warranty), so I will let people know how it goes.
I doubt this would be region based or it would just lead to more bad press and upset customers. Most likely they have not announced it here. That is their home country after all.
Increasing the warranty or processing returns themselves is not that big for them to provide. There may be some adjustment for regions based on local laws, but I think we can all expect to be extended this.

Agreed..
It is always metal back, metal back, metal back... I have said similar things about the Tegra 3 chip playing a roll, and that just gets swept under the rug and it is always the metal back.
Hell, the Tegra 3 chip could be a huge issue here, or how the GPS software was written to interact with the quad cores, but they are taking the fall versus calling out Nvidia so as to mitigate damage beyond them and any future relationship. Thus, it is 10x easier to just say metal back, metal back and the masses jump on it and repeat it.
BTW, some people need to look into some of the many GPS units out there - watch and bike and handheld - that are even tinyer, more compact, and use aluminum on their bodies and that work just fine.

This was done two days ago, and ask you can tell, the CS rep was able to locate it in their system, to send me a new one. I really love this product, and I will post this in the positive Prime thread as well.
Also, of course new models will come out. I personally would take a 201 of the 700. Why? The design is amazing. I don't use GPS unless I am on a internet connection, and I never have before. (Besides, I don't know if its just me, but Maps won't even open for me if I don't have a internet connection. It just says please connect to use Maps, and the app closes.). The Wifi and Bluetooth issues that existed has been fixed. While GPS is lackluster, at least it was included. Just look at the 183206 views of this Apple topic about no GPS in the Wifi iPad 2. (http://bit.ly/wSuep7). People were furious! Apple did "****" to announce why it was not included. At least ASUS made a public statement, said the type of metal was not giving GPS the proper performance it needed.
I believe ASUS's plan WAS to included GPS all along, and it was NOT to be used as a MAIN feature. If you caught in the middle of no where, without internet, it was your last resort. If you had an iPad, you were SOL. So thank you ASUS for including it.
Hell, if you are gonna wait for the 700, the iPad 3 will be out by then. And when it doesn't have GPS and its lacluster, here have the iPad 3.5 with a .5 more megapixals in the camera. But then CES 2013 is only a few more months away, lets wait till then. Catchin my drift? Make use of that quad core goodness you have, and feel safe that just cause a new item comes out does not render your device useless.
While I don't call this a "rant", I do hope I explained it to the best ability I can, in my view, of this whole issue. Please post your comments below, and make them constructive. I don't come to XDA to post on what the hell you think of ASUS. This is forum is for general discussion, not taking advantage of insurance exchanges, *****ing out people that are just trying to help you, etc.
I plan to use my dock, Prime, and case for my Prime for a good two years during school.
ASUS lover, and non-fanboy,
Timothy

I know which panel they are using.. cough cough..
When I looked on best buy's site they didn't show any were available to order about 2 weeks ago. The CSR told me that for some reason they had plenty of stock in their warehouse but for some reason the website never showed they were available to order. Mine is coming on Tuesday according to my UPS tracking number. It is the gray version which is fine with me, I just hope it is a bug free one.
My guess is they are keeping the remaining stock as mostly replacements to the people who already have bought them. When they get the stock with the updated boxes to reflect no GPS they will start selling those in the stores.

Hmm, that would mean not as big of a resolution increase as some people seem to think. It would also mean that Asus is going to have a hard time keeping the TF700 in stock.

Rumours are of a 2048 x 1536 resolution panel. That's 50% more pixels than the Tf700. Might be out of date news though.
I work for Best Buy and in our internal inventory system, they took alot of stuff related to the Prime out of the system, like the Grey 32GB. It makes for a bad experience when someone asks me where to get one and I have the SKU and I know where to find it in the backend of the system too and it's INTENTIONALLY removed. Now I can't even look at what other stores in the district might have it. Awesome.

I just wish that they had a replacement for me. I asked for a replacement, I really wanted a replacement. They didn't have any and she couldn't find one for me.
If I could have had my last Prime, Minus the "Serial Number Unknown" Problem, I would have been so happy. I would have taken a replacement in a minute, they just didn't have one.
Now, the problem is, I have $140 in Gift Cards at Best Buy, all gifts from the holidays, and I basically have to buy it at Best Buy cause there is nothing else there I want to spend my money on.

do you know if best buy finally got some cases in for the prime? last time I checked they only had ipad2, Samsung galaxy 10.1, and Toshiba thrive cases. I might have to end up ordering one online if I can't find one in a store. I ended up by a Targus netbook style case but its more of a travel pouch. I need a case to slip this into that I can leave it on it. I still find myself being extra careful as not to drop it. Any case I get would being able to go onto the prime and also fit inside the Targus netbook style case/pouch.

IMPORTANT LEGAL NOTICE FROM ASUS
Asus has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit concerning your Asus Eee Pad
TF201 Transformer Prime tablet. If you own or owned a TF201, you may be entitled to $17 and a free GPS extension kit. This Notice is approved by a Federal Court, and is not a solicitation.
Please visit www.AsusTF201Settlement.com or call 1-877-211-8361 for more information.
You are eligible to participate in the settlement if you are a United States resident who bought a TF201, and experienced lost or reduced GPS functionality or weak/intermittent WiFi performance. To claim a cash payment and a Dongle, you must submit a Claim Form on the website, by email or by regular mail by
May 31, 2013. If you do not submit a timely claim, your rights will not be affected.
The Court has not yet approved the settlement. It will have a hearing to decide whether to do so. If you choose to, you may object to this settlement by
June 20, 2013 and ask the Court not to approve the proposed settlement. Please remember that if you choose not to participate in the settlement, your rights will not be affected. Please visit the website or call the toll-free number for more information.
I wonder if this means that the European support lines might now send a GPS Dongle to those of us that missed out /refused?
I just filed mine. Ill see what happens.

Meh, already got a dongle, and $17 isn't really worth the trouble. If Asus truly wanted to make amends for releasing such a flawed product, they should have adjusted the price to reflect what the device should realistically cost given it's performance and refund the difference. And before I am called crazy, HP refunded the price difference for the TouchPad for early adopters after their fire sale, and Apple has refunded around $100 to early adopters of the iPad 3 after the release of the ipad 4 refresh a couple months later. Or maybe it was an issue with the ipad 2, I don't quite remember the specifics. As far as I am concerned, $17 is more of an insult than anything useful. I would consider $100 back to be fair compensation, and is well in line with the things Apple has done without actually releasing a flawed product. But I guess that's what separates a company who cares about their customer base from a company who tries to push as many devices out the door and quickly move on to the next thing.
$17 bucks??? Really!??!
And what about those outside US?
Do NOT take this settlement, if you do than come June when the case goes to court you have already wiped your hands clean of any further benefits such as refunds, exchanges, etc.
$17 and a dongle you can already get if you registered your Asus on their site? LMFAO what a douche move.
$17  I've already received 2 GPS dongles that I never use. Anyway my Primes WiFi is fine.
Can i join from Israel ? (dont want 17$)
wifi is terrible
i say tell them to screw off,
wth is the point of $17? this piece of junk cost $500 and gps, wifi and bluetooth isn't the only issue of this junk
They should replace our primes with the Infinity. Atleast the TF300 -_-

Where is the settlement for the fact that the Transformer Prime runs slower than a Kindle Fire, or thread number 2 on here. I am so glad I got rid of this thing when I lost the ability to unlock after I had my cracked screen fixed.

Everyone deny it!
The wording reads:
"The lawsuit claimed that the Asus Eee Pad TF201 Transformer Prime tablet GPS and WiFi signal quality is diminished based on the design of the tablet. "
http://www.asustf201settlement.com
The GPS dongle does absolutely nothing to address the terrible WiFi signal quality due to the all aluminum backing (which also makes GPS useless).
They should be FORCED to replace the faulty prime, which really is anything BUT Prime!, with the Infinity in order to fix the week WiFi and all other problems the "prime" has.

Look, I certainly share your concern, but what you wrote is ridiculous. Asus should compensate for the Prime's failures, but the Infinity is a whole different device. If you really want one, you should go an buy one, but none of us deserve one for free just because the Prime is sub par. $100 or so would be fair.
