[Q] Mopho not getting charged<urgent> - Motorola Photon 4G

Hey
I flashed cm9 when battery was low and after that it's not starting up initially it was just waiting at boot screen and not going ahead
now unless i put cell on charging its not at all coming up(even then it waits on boot screen)
if i try to go in rsd mode it says battery is not sufficient
also when i plug cell in charger instead of going in charge mode it boots up...
can anyone help here??????????

Search around the Photon XDA threads, you have to splice off a micro usb to usb cable and change a few things. I don't remember what it was off top of my head and don't have the time to hunt it down right now, but its been talked about several times if you search you should be able to find it

It was me wolf, look at page 6 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497809
Good luck!

any other options?
Hey thnx for replies guys...
wanted to ask do we have anyother way then splitting usb cable as i dont have any spare usb cables.........!!!!

Hi
As 'w0lf215' and 'dilkush' said, you can somehow cut a USB cable and connect it to the wall charger and to the battery. But I think that the best way to fix it is to find some friend that owns a Motorola smartphone, and to check whether his or her battery's specs fit your battery's specs. Then charge your battery with his or her phone so that you'll have enough power to fix your phone or use his or her battery to fix it.
You can also buy a battery charger that connects directly to the battery, such as this.
Hope it helps!

Charger
Hey even i'm looking for such charger but unfortunately i'm in india and can't find any such charger nearby...still looking for it lets see if i can find some.....

This item can be sent to India, and it includes a strong battery. You can also buy an USB cable and cut it, or find a friend that owns a Motorola smartphone.

I was in a panic and, at the time, cutting one of my cables was my only option. You do know there are other wall chargers other than Photon specific one's.

Stating where you're located might help. For example, if you were in the Chicagoland area, I'd be willing to "swap" batteries to get yours juiced up.
... aaannd nevermind, I just saw another of your replies, stating that you're in India. Sorry, my reading fail.

[Q] Phone is FUBARed

I installed the 3G booster scripts from zeppelinrox, and now my phone won't go past the "dualcore" screen. (It seems that changing the I/O Scheduler does NOT go well with the Droid X2. So don't install the normal 3g script (use safe mode that he has now released.)) It's obvious I need to SBF my phone.
Now, it seems that, at that time, my battery died as well. And it also seems that the Droid X2 doesn't actually charge unless it's at the charge screen or booted up completely.
The problem is, RSD mode requires actual battery juice, and not a cable. It tells me I don't have enough battery to flash RSD mode, meaning I can't SBF. And because the phone doesn't charge unless in a mode that it can't boot to, I seem SoL.
It there another way to charge my battery (without an external charger)? Like a BIOS mode that accepts incoming charge? Or am I completely ****ed until I buy an external battery charger?
Super bad timing on my part. Gah. Should've been more aware of my battery...
Well, there's a way but it takes work. Cut off the end of an old charger place the positive side of the cable (the one with the white stripe) on the positive feed of the battery and place the negative (the all black one) on the negative feed. They'll be marked. To hold it in place use electrical tape and make sure you wrap it all the way around. It'll charge the battery and you'll be able to use in the phone but it probably wont allow you to charge from the phones charger again because for some reason, using an alternative charging source voids a Motorola battery. But at least you'll be able to get your phone back up until you get a new battery or just keep charging it the hard way. But, I know this works because I had to do it with my original X and Im not responsible if you blow up or catch your house on fire.

borrow a battery from sumone you know with either an x2 or an x. Or take 4 little wires and another lithium 3.7v battery and try to rig sum crazy ****
Trade batteries with someone with an X or X2. Tell them it's just temp until you can get your phone fixed. I wouldn't go off splicing wires and rednecking it because that just sounds dangerous.
Can u get to the stock recovery with power and down button if so I thought the phone charges in recovery but not sure 100% I've been reading slot on this phone
If you are on GB with System Recovery installed my phone has been booting into Recovery Charge Mode when powered off and plugging into ac charger. Recommend giving that a try if it works it will boot to a large battery charging icon.
good luck.

Thanks for all your help guys, I guess the things I need to do is either borrow a battery (none of my friends have an X or X2..) or buy an external battery charger. Thanks again!

Does walmart have a compatible battery? New batteries tend to have some juice (like around half). And you could always return it and say it won't charge in your phone. Walmart has an easy return policy. Just an idea.

Thank you for the idea. I just went and bought an external battery charger and my phone is now up and running again.
I remember with my Droid 2 I was installing a ROM and my battery crapped out. So I went to a vzw store and I was like yeah I was installing this update from a notification i saw on the phone and my battery died. Can I use a battery so I can recover the phone? Less than a minute later she comes out with a new battery for me to use and just watches me go into CWR and flash my ROM 8). Gotta love how clueless those reps are.

Just got my S2, but it won't turn on! :(

So I had bought this phone off ebay and when I got it today I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.
I then plugged the phone in and tried powering it on and still nothing. I tried charging the battery and left it alone for an hour and afterwards the result is the same. Basically when I plug in the phone to the charger, the phone's screen will flash a battery icon as if its going to charge for a split second and then go blank. And then it will flash the battery icon again and then go blank again and it will go on like this for a couple of minutes until the screen finally stays blank.
So as I said even though I leave the phone to charge for a while, it still won't turn on and the only result seems to be that the phone gets warm near the camera. Also I tried to see if download mode works and pressed both volume buttons and I get a brief flash of some words. After doing it for several times I saw it said 'Low battery, cannot download' all in red.
I searched the forum and tried leaving the battery out for a while and also putting it in the fridge to see if anything would happen but nothing. So can anyone help? Is it just the battery?
Could be the battery - if you are on good terms with a local ATT store, try going there and asking if you can borrow a battery from their demo device to see if yours will power up. That's the best cheap way I can think of to rule that out.
Other possibility is a bad USB port. My first device developed a failure at about 2 months - I'm actually on day 5 with my warranty replacement. There is another member here, Moustro I think, who also may have a bad USB port. He and I were wondering if perhaps there was a bad batch out there. I'm not sure what ATT's warranty policy is for items re-sold on eBay, but might be worth checking out...
yeah that does sound like it could be the battery boot loop, take some photos of the battery to see if it is the oem... if it is the oem try a stand alone chager

I live in Canada don't think I'd get much help from AT&T probably.
Also the battery is the original one and not a replacement. I left it unplugged for a few hours and just now plugged it back in and its the same battery icon flashing for a couple of minutes and then blank screen. No charging whatsoever. I tried different outlets and different USB ports on my notebook and its all the same.
I also have an Infuse and charging for that every by every method is just fine so its my SII that's messed up.
If it's any condolence to you, I just bought a brand new GS2 from the ATT store today. The battery was semi-charged when I got it, and when it ran out, I plugged it in and got the same thing you did. Battery is flashing, cannot power it on, even plugged in. I also got the red "Low battery, cannot download".
I spent the better part of 4 hours reloading my apps and email addys, and everything else to get my phone up and running, and now this.
I am going back to the ATT store tomorrow and requesting a different brand new one.
This is my 2nd GS2, because I destroyed my first one in an accident.
Just as dandrumheller was saying. I had simimiar issues where the phone battery would blink on and off even if the charger was plugged in or not while the phone was powered off. The only way I could get my phone to boot to prepare it for warranty exchange was to flash a rom through Odin. But if you can't get it into download mode this wouldn't work.
My suggestion would be to use a different battery. That would let you know if its a hardware issue or bad battery.
hmm...
I was able to to get it to power on last night with what little battery was left. I then plugged it into the USB of my Mac, rather than the charging wart. When I awoke this AM, I have a fully charged battery, and a working phone. I will let the battery run out again completely today and see what happens.
That's great news! I hope it continues to work for you
I would not let it completely run out. Our batteries don't like that. Don't go below 25 percent. I'm glad you got it working. I know you're relieved.

I'm not sure relieved is the right word.
Apprehensive might be better.
We all know AT&T isn't in the best graces with most.
They must be the ***** of Comcast.
Anybody got anymore suggestions?? Can't get it to work no matter what I try.
Call samsung and see if they will honor the warranty? Don't know their rules, but in another thread someone suggested that sale of the phone does not void the warranty.

Max,
Were you able to find a fix for your problem? i bought a SGII from ebay and is presenting the same issue
For what its worth I am able to enter download with NO battery. In fact I ONLY do it without a battery. I just hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB to my computer while not pressing anything else. Without battery.
Thought the OP said he couldn't enter download.... so if that doesn't throw it in download it's more than just battery.

Guys,
I tried this and it worked...
At a last resort, i put the battery on nexus to see if it will charge and DAMN !! it did,, so the battery was not the issue...so i grab a swab with little alcohol then clean the terminals on the battery and the spring connectors on the phone... and voila !!! started charging and keeps working perfectly.
It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you guys.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem.

Same problem
Flashing on for a sec then flashing off, buttons flashed too. Phone got hot around the battery. Couldn't have described the problem better
Took some alcohol, cleaned the contacts for the USB connector, cleaned the battery contacts, and booyah, got the charging symbol again! Problem was, I didn't use the phone for a month, it rode around in the front pocket of my laptop bag, and apparently got the contacts dirty. A little toothpick and q-tip fun later, and my phone started charging again. Thanks -

Really? I've had mostly HTC phones and we could run them down pretty low.. I've been running mine down past 10 and it's been fine.. stock battery.
I had the same problem as op. My last resort was to cut the micro usb end of a spare cable and connected it to the (+) and (-) on the phone itself. since the phone booted up, i knew it was the battery. Next, i did the same thing but (+) and (-) on the battery itself while connected to a computer. i held it in place for about 10 seconds. put the battery back in the phone and it started charging again. im sure it wasnt the safeat thing to do, but it worked. Maybe the dead battery needed some kind of jump.
btw. The wires you would be using are the the black and red. and i got this idea from

I believe these are different types of batteries. Not Lithium, but something else. I bought some spare batteries from eBay and the batteries had the same instructions... That it is not good to let them die completely, and charge then preferably when they still have 1/3 charge left.

anyone got an idea?

Okay so somebody I know had the most dumbest idea ever and thought if he spliced the charger wire and connected it to the car battery thinking that it wouldn't hurt his phone. The phone instantly turned off and rebooted and dropped 30% in battery charge. He restarted it and turned back on with 30% more charge. He was able to use a friends charger to try to charge it again, but phone would not charge anymore. Once the phone died, the phone was done and wouldn't come on. He figured he fried the battery so he bought a new one. The new and charged battery worked until it died. Once it died he yet again still can't charge.
So I am trying to help him out and take it apart to see if I can see anything. I am a computer electronic engineer, so I know what I need to know. But since I don't work with phones I don't know a whole lot about them. So what do you guys think could of happened? I kinda figured a resistor that connects to the battery has blown maybe. But I want some advice on what to look at inside the phone. I don't know where the electrical current flows first inside the phone.
Phone works fine with no problem but just will not charge. Any of you guys have an idea?
I guess Samsung didn't think they needed to put in a "do not attach to car battery" disclaimer...
Why did he want to use the car battery in the first place?
P. S. Sorry I don't have any insights.
Or a car battery with a red circle with a line through it saying don't do this.
I am betting that you are correct though in that he probably blew *ahem* melted a resistor. You can probably get the mother board specs on-line somewhere, as this is an older phone so proprietary rules might still be in effect but I doubt it by now.
Worse comes to worse, just email Samsung and see if they have any info. At least they will get a chuckle and you'll be famous bc they will forward the email all around the company.
I'm sorry to say...but this post made my day xD
I literally LOLed xD
Ya i couldn't stop laughing. made my day too. but he connect it to the car because his electricity was turned off in his house.. lmao i guess he had an important phone call to make. but alright thanks guys
Did a standard car charger not occur to this friend?
This is too funny.

Did you check with a usb cable if the phone is detected ? If it work then usb port is ok and look inside for more damage if not then usb port is fried and wont ever be able to charge until its changed.

Atrix won't boot - even with factory cable

I have a Motorola Atrix 4G on Bell Mobility. Currently the phone will not boot at all. The phone is out of warranty.
When this started I began by searching through the xda forums and found several similar problems. Most pointed to the sleep-of-death or a charging adapter problem. I have tried charging with the Motorola adapter that came with the phone, a USB cable and the Motorola Lapdock. None of these have provided any happy. Each time I tried, I left the phone overnight, when I checked on it, the phone and battery were cold. I tested a known-working battery from another Atrix and the phone would still not boot.
Some other searches point to a factory cable. I bought one on Ebay however the phone will not boot. I tested the cable on a known-working Atrix and it works fine. I did notice that when I plug the factory cable in to my phone and in to my Windows 7 PC, it detects *something*. Under device manager I see an unknown device called "APX". So far Google and xda searches haven't been able to provide me with a correct answer.
When I plug in the regular USB cable the green LED turns on for a while, if I touch the power button, the green LED goes out. RSD Lite does not detect anything, I assume this is because the phone is not in RSD mode.
I have tried combinations of volume buttons/power button as well, both with the wall charger and with the factory cable. Nothing displays on the screen at all no matter what I've tried. The phone had the stock install from Bell however was rooted with SuperOneClick (obtained from xda forums and installed many months ago) and had no third-party apps on it.
This death seemed to start slowly, at first battery life was at times terrible, then it moved on to not wanting to power on for a while if the battery died or the phone was turned off when the battery was low. Removing/re-inserting the battery several times typically helped. Eventually the phone got so bad, when it booted it would just crash repeatedly with a message about motorola.home.something (sorry I don't remember exactly what). Hitting force close would just bring the message back up again. I left the phone off overnight and the next morning, R.I.P. my Atrix
I have access to Windows XP or 7 as well as Linux.
Any help would be appreciated. Also I apologize for the long-winded post, I'm trying to provide as much information as I can.
I had this problem to, I freaked out, what I needed to do was to get another Atrix (in this case my Uncles) and make sure that the battery in it is FULLY CHARGED, then I took out my battery (in the broken phone) and put in his, then I got a solid green LED, then I had to leave it on the charger overnight, after that the M would show, but that was it, so I then went into fastboot and flashed the ICS Leak, and ta-da.

I've tried that with no luck. I should also note that the factory cable bypasses the battery, potentially eliminating any battery problems.
It's possible that your phone is finished. The 'motorola.home' error is usually caused by something you've updated (google search?) but I would doubt that it would cause your phone to not even start up.
At this point, I might be inclined to open the phone up (http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola+Atrix+4G+Teardown/4964/1) and see if you can see anything obvious?

Nothing obvious when I took it apart, no visible damage or problems. Any other thoughts? I've been told to try ADB from a Linux box and see if it will do anything. I've started installing ADB but looking for more insight.

Update. I found this ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11901016&postcount=75 and now instead of "APX" in Windows device manager, I have "NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices".
It looks like NVFlash might be something I need next. In other news, the phone when plugged in via the factory cable, is actually very slightly warm. It's the first new sign of life I've seen in this thing for a few days.

I've had no luck at all since my last reply. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046994 seems to have something to do with my problem, but I'm not able to dig up a solid answer. As best as I can tell, I manged to hard brick the thing and I'm up the creek without a required paddle.

[Q] Weird Charging Issue

Hello,
I have Galaxy S2 and having some charging issue. Yesterday, when I plugged it in the wall charger, it didn't get charged (i.e. even the flash on battery was not coming up) and when I tried to restart the phone, it powered off but didn't switch on. I tried holding the power button to turn it on but it didn't. So, I pulled out the battery and left the cell for some time like 20 mins or so. After re-inserting the battery, it turned on but still was not getting charged. I tried to change the USB cable as well but nothing helped. I then tried to charge it via my Laptop it actually started the charging process but with error on Laptop saying "USB Device not recognized".
Today, I tried the wall charger again and here's I found something: when my phone is ON and I plug it in the wall charger it doesn't charge but as soon as I turn the phone OFF, my phone starts getting charged (Battery image comes on screen which usually comes when the phone is off). So, that's how I am charging my phone.
I went to the repair shop today, he said it's a charging port issue on which I have some doubts that why it is even charging in this way if it's a port issue. I just want to make sure if whatever he's saying can be somewhat true.
Can you please help me out? I would be really thankful to you.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Thank you!
PS: I tried to search about the port issues but I couldn't find anyone having this kind of issue so please!
The issues you have mentioned really do all point to a faulty USB board......it is common (with a faulty board) for some functionality to work while other functionality is lost. The part itself costs pocket change and is reasonably easy to DIY replace......
If you want to go down that path, check my profile for threads I've started.....you'll find a guide explaining exactly how to do it.
Just make sure to read and note the section on 'rev versions' it is VERY important to get the correct one......
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right
