Just want peoples input on this. The mic on my wife's Eris just stopped working recently. Not sure if its just dead or if it could be something else. I've tried flashing multiple roms (xtrsense, worksheds aosp gb, and something else I forget). On one from it worked the first call then nothing. On xtrsense it never worked. I don't want to just leave it at bad mic. Does anyone have suggestions as to other ways I can troubleshoot this problem? Any suggestions would be great. Thanx in advance.

Go back to stock RUU = much simpler to flash Flashback_21v2.

Also be aware that JCase's 1-click root app doesn't seem to be in the market anymore (at least it wasn't the last I checked). If you want to re-root later, but you can find a version in Scary Alien's alternate recovery thread here: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html or do this method: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html
Alright coo thanx for the input guys and the links

My mic went out too lol verizon let get rezound 3 months into my own conteact
iv had that happen before. the first time it happened to my eris, it was before it was rooted (i think) and i was trying to use voice search but it said "audio error". i then went to androsensor (an app that monitors all sensors, including microphone) and where it normally has the decibels, it said "unavailable" or something to that effect. i gave the mic a few good whacks, killed all tasks, cleared all cache, etc, and it worked fine. that leads me to believe the diaphragm in the mic was physically jammed. the second time was definantly after i rooted it, as it is happening to me right now. when someone calls me, i can hear them, but they cant hear me. im not sure where the problem lies, as on my old moterola rival, i had the same problem, but the voice recorder app worked, so the problem there was things just not talking to each other (no pun intended). i havent gotten around to debugging the problem, as my phone has much more critical issues than that, but if i find a fix, ill let you know.

You need something done?
Well, basically I can't use 2.3.4. roms... still can't figure out why everything functions except people being able to hear me on calls. So i'm just trying to find a rom I can use and it seems it'll have to be a 2.3.3. based rom. Tried about 5 different 2.3.4. roms, even stock deodexed and still.. people can't hear me on calls but can hear me fine on 2.3.3. It seems im the only person online with this issue lol. Crazy part is, when I have the phone hooked up to the car speakers I can be heard on calls just fine but not through the speaker phone or regular phone speaker. It's pretty much dumbfounded me.
Did you update your firmware?
What you mean? I never take updates... is there a process to it that im missing somewhere? I figure there HAS to be somethin i'm doing wrong. Asides from just flashing a 2.3.4 rom from 2.3.3 what am I missing?
Wtf??? Ive never heard of this issue. I would test but my phone is disconnected. Try to run a ruu and then reroot.

this is for the sprint cdma version of the evo 3d...
Go to this thread and download the "all firmware minus hboot"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223979
Rename the zip PG86IMG (.zip) will be the extension (full file will be named PG86IMG.zip), put the file on the root of your sd card, and boot into bootloader. When asked if you want to update, choose yes and let it do its thing. Do not pull battery or turn of your phone as that could brick your phone.
Same ol routine...flashed the virus rom and called a voice prompt line to see if itd pick up on my voice and nothing. Don't know what it is. It's not the speaker because voice commands still work but cant be heard during calls unless i plug into to bluetooth or my car sync.
Did you follow my instructions from above?
Yep... I had already done that before though. Ive been flashing a longggggggg time and ive never come across anything like this before.

Yea, that's extremely peculiar...did you adjust anything with qpst at all?
Nope not at all. Went back to 2.3.3. and call volume is back again lol. I even tried the stock rom 2.3.4. and even it wouldn't work.
Go to a sprint repair store and ask for another phone. Tell them it has reboot locks for about 30 mins at a time.

Nope sounds work fine...its not even my phone anymore i sold it to someone. But my mistake was selling it to someone I know.
Everyone else may not find this to be an interesting problem, but I do.
I have a rooted HBOOT 1.40 HTC Evo 3d that I got when the phone was released. I use the original TWRP that was out when the phone achieved perm-root. I've utilized multiple ROMs including: Synergy, CM7, MIUI, Eternity, and a few others. I have been using MIUI for a good two months or so until this recent issue.
Onto the issue, when someone calls me I can sometimes hear them and talk to them. So sometime when I am called my phone actually works as a phone. Other times, the other person's line keeps ringing and ringing. This happens when I call someone as well. When I call my voicemail [1 then call], I get nothing. When I go into the diag everything seems correct. I'm not super-down with all that side of things, but it seems right. I've tried placing a call long enough just in case it's an error 16 for calling [texting is fully operational].
I've NANDed back to a Sense Rom [Warm TwoPointThree] and updated my PRL, Firmware, etc as much as possible and still no dice.
So does anyone have anyway they could help me? Right about now I'm thinking unrooting is the best option. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Not sure if it will work but you can try updating profile then prl in settings. If that doesn't work you can try a data restore. Also if you aren't on the most current radios probably wouldn't hurt to flash that either. Just tossing ideas out there for you.
N if none of that works ask Sprint to reset it n tell them what's going on might be on their end as well

Well I'm setting up ADB right now to flash the newest radio. Unroot here shortly. And if all else fails I'll call sprint. And if still not a no-go, looks like I might just use that upgrade on my other line for a new phone. Might hold out for an ICS or something and downgrade to a *eek*feature phone*eek*. Meh.
i had something similar to this a few months back. it was actually due to sprints towers having some issues. it was happening to my 3d and my wifes og evo, but not to the shift on our account. it was weird. but i would totally call sprint and see whats up sounds like its them.

That's what I had said originally. Hmm. Ok. Thanks for the input.
EDIT
I meant thought. :\
UPDATE:
The issue was Google Voice integration. The app itself didn't do it, if it had then it would've been fixed in the unroot process. It is nice knowing I can unroot, but this scare was .
Thanks for all the help guys.
Out of nowhere the mic stopped working. Figured it was an app so I started deleting apps. Still didn't work so I restored nandroids that went as far back as three months when it was working. (Shouldn't this be equivalent to a factory restore if I restored it to a state I knew was working)
Ordered the the front pcb keyboard and mic online through OEM cellphone parts.com
The part they shipped didnt't have the same ribbon connection, but was supposed to be for X2.
I have seen this problem online when I googled it and everyone pretty much got it replaced through warranty. Mine is second hand so I can't replace it.
Can anyone help?
I had the same thing happen a few months ago. I wiped data ,cache and still nothing. So I restored a couple of backups still nothing. Then I reflashed my rom and the headset worked again. So if you haven't tried flashing a fresh download of your rom I would try that before I bought a new phone.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Try an sbf if all else fails
I have yet to see that not fix an issue
Unless it ends up being that the Mic itself is actually damaged
Just get urself a headset if u don't wanna buy a new phone lol
I actually flashed a new rom and it still didnt work after going from stock to eclipse. However wouldnt the previous nandroids work the same as an sbf they clear the system and data folders when restored. I made a backup two days becore the mic went out. That restore didnt work and neither did the restores from three months back.
Either way Im trying to figure out if this replacement mic will work. Will let you know if it does and Ill try to document it as I havent seen a DX2 dissasemble online, although it's pretty much the same as the droid x.
Does anyone else have experience on this matter?
What will an sbf do that a nand backup of a working mic state do different.

So, I've been jumping back and forth between Atrix CM9 and CM7 roms and running the .36p radio. Yesterday on CM9, i started getting a large amounts of random reboots and finally got things settled by doing a factory reset in CWM and flashing a clean cm9 rom. However, whenever I turned on wifi, the phone would crash and reboot to the Dual Core logo. I tried flashing another CM9 rom and it didn't crash, but the wifi radio would never seem to pick up any AP's (i'm at home).
I've gone as far as changing to the .37p radio and going back to cm7 to no avail... I'm a bit worried I might have "fried" the wifi radio on the phone.
Did you do a full wipe? Use fastboot to wipe properly before flashing any ROM. Plenty of threads with instructions.

Looking at the fast boot command, I'm not sure how that does anything different then the clockwork mod wipe... but I will give it a shot.

Sorry, but your wifi/bluetooth card is dead. My Atrix got the exact same symptoms a few days ago. Both WiFi and bluetooth are on the same chip. When the system tries to reference them, it fails to locate the hardware and crashes/reboots.
In fact, in researching this topic, I found dozens of threads about this. We should make a sticky about it at this point. Best Buy was kind enough to take back my phone (unlocked bootloader, rooted, cwm, custom fonts, startup, etc.) if I restored it all to stock. If you want Motorola/AT&T/the store you purchased it at to not void your warranty, you should flash the 2.3.6 SBF. Just be cautious and read all about it. But that is the only way that Motorola will service a modded phone

Nothing like the same. Clockwork wipe only does data and cache. You erase boot, system, preinstall, cache, user, webtop, etc., via fastboot. I've posted the procedure probably more than 20 times before.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Yeah unfortunately even after a fastboot wipe, the phone's bluetooth and wifi were gone. I was also over the year warranty. Luckily, I picked up a barely used one on Craigslist and restored my backup to it. Now i've got an expensive battery charger (and spare phone should i need it).
If there were any tips you'd have on restoring to a new phone? I've restored my phone a lot and worked on a lot of android phones (I work at a repair shop), but I've never restored data/settings from one phone to another. Of course its the same model, but I can only imagine the issues that could arise out of such an operation
Thanks!
I just made sure I did a fastboot full wipe of the new phone, then placed my clockworkmod directory on the internal (external should be ok too) storage and did a restore. After the restore, I re-flashed the latest version of the rom I was running on top of it with Google apps and it booted fine. Afterwards, I made sure to do a permissions repair and reboot.
Yeah, it seems like a lot of people are having this problem. Like me for example :[
So far there is no solution that I'm aware of, after trying practically everything I could think of and find on the internet... I'm pretty sure it's hardware related. I bet the phone just isn't very high quality. How much did it cost again? $600? + all of the dumb accessories for it. Normally when you see a pattern of failures you would call it a design flaw, but apparently when it comes to expensive electronics they call it out of warranty.

did your wifi
For anyone interested, here is a supposed solution to the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYz_RiuFVRk
It will require you to open the phone up, and solder the "wifi battery" into place. I'm not sure what the hell that thing is, but that guy in the video called it a battery. Voids warranty etc. Good luck.

I'd give it a try, if I could understand what exactly he does. It looks like he just pries it up with a screwdriver and then pushes it back down.

Hello,
Today at the beginning of the day I noticed that when I called somebody (first phone call of the day) my phone had NO speaker volume. I was trying to talk to them and I could not hear them at all. They however, could totally hear me. Speaker phone does work, and a headset does work. So in a nutshell...
1. Ear speaker does not work under any circumstances it seems to me.
2. The external speakerphone speaker (youtube speaker, etc) DOES work.
3. If you plug an external headset into it (like the apple headphones with a mic attached) it DOES work, I can hear them and they can hear me.
4. There is nothing that I can see in the headphone jack, and no headphone icon on the notification bar.
5. I have tried restarting the phone and clearing dalvik and other caches.
6. I am running the NOS M7 v 3.0.7 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184706
7. To my knowledge it has had no physical damage to cause the issue.
8. SCREENSHOTS attached of pertinent phone information.
This just started today and have no idea what would have caused it, it was working fine less than 24 hours ago. I am going to try to install a different ROM or factory reset to maybe fix the issue, but it does not seem to me to be a software issue.
IF ANYBODY has ANY idea what this could be, or has had this issue and fixed it, PLEASE let me know. Right now I am relegated to using my headset or speaker phone. I am open to trying anything, but am reluctant to get it replaced because I HAVE to be s-off and unlocked, if I get a phone that is totally up to date and can not crack it and make it s-off and install a custom ROM I will shoot myself, haha.
Thanks guys! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
P.S. I will provide any other knowledge or information that you guys ask for to troubleshoot this.
Rumrunner will work for new update. Try a different Rom. If problem persists it must be hardware issue.

The only, not so slight, issue with this is that my phone is rooted, S-Off, unlocked, and running a custom rom, and any refurb I get will most likely be patched to the point that I can not unlock it or S-Off it, and that is beyond important to me. Any other ideas that do not involve getting a different phone?

Your phone's hardware is broken. There is no fix short of you replacing the broken piece. Any refurb you get can be rooted.
