I read in this month's issue of Stuff magazine that a new version of the XDA will be released later this year.
Browsing on internet I found only one link that showed a picture of a xda with a blue back panel and could as well be the original model.
Has anyone heard about this and maybe know where to find more info on this (if O2 will support them for instance) and some specs and maybe photo's?
Thanx
There will be a new version of the XDA but it's not certain yet which company/ies will be releasing it. I heard some rumours about bluetooth, more memory and a faster processor, I haven't heard anything on SDIO support yet.
Bluetooth would be great, WiFi would be fantastic. Maybe even GPS and a 56K color screen (for the freaks among us to watch movies)?
Anyone know the mail adress/website of HTC who makes them? Have some requests of my own....
Hope someone will post here as soon as they find out more..
If it has the newer Xscale CPU it's very likely it will support SDIO. The SD controller is build-in the CPU and all Xscale CPU's support SDIO.

Ok, first off, getting your electronics info from "Stuff" magazine is like getting steak grilling tips from PETA. Plus all magazines like that are typically posted about two months after they are written, making them pretty useless for new developments.
Secondly, predicting a new XDA is like predicting that the sun will come up tomorrow, that winter will come in a few months, or that the curry I ate today will sting my ass tomorrow. It's obviously going to happen.
It's worthless until they say "on this date a new XDA with these features will be available." And when they can do that, you'll already have read it here two months earlier.
pc pro
i have a pc pro subscription. They had a review of the new iPaq with pocketPc 2k3. they went on to mention that all the pocket devices will be getting the update. including XDA.
Tomorrow never comes? But we old get older, and hopefully wiser...

One of the main reasons for a forum is for guys like me to wonder about stuff. Ask questions to other users with the same interest. Sometimes intelligent questions and some times less intelligent, but always within the region of interest of other forum readers. If you feel a threat is dumb, don't read it and especially don't reply on it. No need for smart-ass remarks here, we just want to chat about stuff we like.
I had a question, couldn't find it in the forum so I asked. Big Deal.

Sorry, I wasn't laughing AT you, but WITH you... I posted what I did because many people don't realize just how that publishing process goes--it's very lengthy and full of PR assholes. Those "what's new in electronics" columns are one of my pet peeves. And I'm a gruff asshole by nature anyway, so it came out worse than intended.
Hehe, no harm done. At least you were true about Stuff Magazine and most of it's other companions.
So.... When is the new model comming out?

I spoke to T Mobile UK about when the MDA was going to be introduced. They said that it was originally going to be introduced in March but now has been put back to the end of this year (because of techical difficulties?).
I wonder if they are planning to introduce the new unit.

New XDA details
This s the response I received from Carrier Devices regarding the New Qtek (XDA):
"There are plans for a new Qtek device, however I can't give out any official information. It won't be available until the end of the year, but will have Built in Bluetooth, SDIO and be tri-band"
please refer to topic http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1500 for further information about the XDA II
I guess I got my initial question answered, so as far as I'm concerned, this topic is now out-of-date

Hello all,
Spoke with a few people today from UTStarcom and Verizon and got quite a bit of information about this long awaited update. Figured I'd share with you.
Called UTStarcom and spoke with Orlando, an engineer with them. He forwarded an internal memo to me (I can't post it on here, don't bother asking). I can tell you what was in it though.
The update is complete and was received by Verizon mid June.
Rom version number is 3.36.605.0. I know a lot of you are going to say "but we already have 3.56 blah blah", but those are Sprint updates and just because the version number is different, doesn't mean it's not newer.
The update addresses the following (straight from the memo):
-Update to Windows Mobile 6.1
-Update to EVDO Rev. A
-Update location based services (GPS)
-Update bluetooth profiles
Update is complete on their end, waiting on Verizon to give the go ahead. He said he would speak to his superiors and find more info and for me to call back Thursday (he gave me his extension).
I called Verizon and spoke to Wes, a WDTS Tier 3 Tech.
He confirmed what Orlando told me. The completed update was received by Verizon and has been in final testing. The last update he had was July 3, been in testing for a while with no problems. Projected release set for end of the month/early August.
He also told me it's been so long due to the fact that they decided to add WM 6.1 (previously it was only expected to address EVDO Rev A / GPS)
Fugg yes!
Now, does this potentially include aGPS? Will we get the lock times of Sprint? Any other potential goodies that could be included? Lastly, what will DCD be looking to extract to improve in his ROMs?
Dude, you rule.
Can't wait...
Now I have to check the vzw or utstar sites every day!

Excellent news GC - hopefully it might add some more functionality to the GPS, although with your fix, it seems to work really well now!
Thanks for the info!

Thanks, this is great. I am sure GC or DCD will have this dissected well before it hits Slorizon's website (or the UTStarcom one you posted), but it is exciting none the less.
I'll be sure NOT to hold my breath waiting on their release
So...did you happen to ask him about what it would take for an "Accidental" leak of the beta? Because I am sure a few of us would drop some money into an unknown Paypal account if such a thing were to happon.
OK... so I'm not trying to be a bad news guy, but I pretty much got the exact same story from UTStarcom back in April, but the release date was May.
When I called in May they said it was release to VZW and was up to them to do something with it. I never was able to get anyone at VZW to admit they had the update (in fact some really bad Help guy yesterday told me that a) any updates would come from the mantufacturer and not VZW, and b) anything, and I mean ANY application you add to the PPC is bad for it and will cause it to slow down. (He was a real piece of work, and when I asked what about things like Microsoft's Live Search which was MADE by MS for this type of phone, he said ANYTHING would basically bog it down and if it stopped VZW would not replace it... schmuck).
Anyway... the UTSarcom site is a good one... but where might we search for Verizon updates???
I am surprised anyone told you anything except "let me check another system....no, I don't see anything here....you may want to keep checking the website if they ever have updates for the phone," schmucks for real. Speaking to higher tier techs is probably more realistic information as they will be seeing memos that other people will not.
Anyways, here is the XV6800 page on vzw:

If you read my post you'd see that I asked about what you're referring to. The "release date" for May was for EVDO Rev A & GPS. They decided to add WM 6.1 at the last minute, which prolonged it. The difference is, you never got anyone from Verizon to admit to it, while I have spoken to several people since May who all have confirmed it.
You guys have to trust that I know what I'm doing....this hasn't been my first time calling and I know what to ask. They pretty much know me by name now when I call lol. In fact, I don't hang up until I speak with someone who knows what they're talking about.
As far as the update itself goes, it will be on HTC's site when it's available, not UTStarcom's or Verizon's.
OK thanks... I had been to that page many times before, but didn't know that they might post anything like a ROM update there.
We'll see....
And yes, senior techs are probably better... just didn't have the time to wait yesterday.

Do you have a link for where you would look for this upgrade on HTC.com? I know you and DCD will be releasing ROMs before I find it but curiosity reigns supreme.
This is what I found but I don't think this is anything more than a marketing page:

It will be posted on this site under the appropriate phone. Since there have not been any updates for VZW you won't find the xv6800. Correct me if I am wrong GC.

First, that link is for the TyTN, not the Titan. 2 Different phones. The TyTN is actually the HTC Hermes, as the TyTN II is the HTC Kaiser.
Second, when it's available you'll be able to find it here:
http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=82&act=faq&cat=268
except when it's released, there'll be an icon next to "Tips & Tricks" called "Software Download" similar to the Sprint Mogul page located here http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=75&act=faq&cat=268

Hope that doesnt sound rude, its more me just being inquisitive. Essentially, how do you manage to be seen as someone worth sharing that information with?
Just received this from HTC.....
Dear xx-xx,
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Flyer.
My name is David and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
I understand that you wish to enquire if the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) update will be made available for your tablet.
We really do appreciate your interest in our products Tristan. I do apologise but the HTC Flyer would not be receiving the ICS update. This is because this update is not compatible with this device. HTC has tested this update extensively on the HTC Flyer and can confirm that this device is not capable of running this update.
I do apologise for the inconvenience this may be causing you.
To let me know I have successfully answered your query, please follow the link below to close your enquiry, you will have the opportunity to leave feedback about your experience contacting me today.

I'm not worried, I'm sure the mod community will come up with a solution for us, but I'd hate to lose the scribe functionality, is anyone clued up enough to suggest if developers are going to be able to retain that?
Not compatible, lmao whatever. Why is it so hard for tech support people to just say "I apologize but I am just an employee and I am uninformed of these kind of decisions ".

What a load of crap don't take his word for it just wait and see for official word.
lol that's just a big fat lie xD
Since when does any Customer Service rep, for any company, have even the slightest clue what they're talking about?
Yeah do you have an email for that guy, so i can write him back and tell him he's full of it?
Not capable yet people on xda get ports working 75% of the way using another devices firmware
Doubt were going to see official
lol that's not official at all! silly customer service reps.
Well at least we can confirm that the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE have been impounded by customs here in the US and are no longer for sale..... Thanks to Apple, so HTC ain't making a lot of people happy this month.
And this quote "This is because this update is not compatible with this device. HTC has tested this update extensively on the HTC Flyer and can confirm that this device is not capable of running this update. "
..............is straight out the Google / Vendor Android support agreement
Yeah the one where Google tried to force all the vendors to support with updates for 18 months. No vendor would sign up to that, so they inserted this escape clause in the agreement. 18 months IF THE DEVICE IS COMPATIBLE with the update.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LOL LOLLOOLLLLLL extensive testing my A$$.....
HTC's testing amounted to "does this make us money? ...NO, , OK it's not compatible then !!"
The least they could do is to release the source code of whatever build (if any) they have been testing Flyer with, to the community!!
Incompatible with ICS..that is complete bulls***..we had a very similar response from Samsung when we asked for GB update for Galaxy 3 (my current phone). Thanks to a very active developer community here on XDA, we have not only multiple GB ROMs (including CM 7.2) but also ICS now..hope something similar happens to Flyer..screw HTC!

Isn't the HTC one v basically the same hardware minus the front camera and half the ram? Their excuse doesn't fly. Either way this csr doesn't know anything anyway.

Even if the CSR knows nothing, what's been said before still applies. If HTC considered updating the Flyer to ICS, we would have seen leaked ROMs or at lease some leaked shots or videos of the device running it.
That being said, I highly doubt HTC plans any updates for us.

Actually, that's not quite true. While they may not be part of the decision-making process, someone in HTC management drafted a response for the reps communicating with customers. This is the information that has been approved to share outside the company by this person. Someone is Legal or PR may have more information, but techs and CSRs only have what management gives them.

Yeah the one where Google tried to force all the vendors to support with updates for 18 months. No vendor would sign up to that, so they inserted this escape clause in the agreement. 18 months unless THE MANUFACTURE DETERMINES THAT THE DEVICE IS NOT COMPATIBLE with the update.
It doesn't matter anyway, any update we get will just be slow, laggy, and buggy. It would be nice for developers but then again the hc update was so bad developers couldn't fix it either so yeah it doesn't matter.
Anyway I say the csr doesn't know what he's talking about because this is the third different thing they've said recently. They told me on Facebook that they are still evaluating, they told another member August, and they told the op its not compatible. Who's actually giving the right answer?

A honeycomb minor upgrade for the current bugs would be much better and more probable if many users mention the GPS issue since it's important. This update might bring other minor bugs if demanded a fix for the Current honeycomb.

I think it would be the better option. An ics update would just be rushed and buggy. Fixing honeycomb would do more good. It's more than just Gps, honeycomb runs slower, and uses more battery. I don't care about hardware buttons though, honeycomb isn't designed to use them anyway and I prefer the virtual buttons as they are better placed.

Hey guys,
i've just finished a chat with the german Moto Support team... And i'm very disappointed!
so what happened?
i've registered for chatting and got Stefan as my chat partner.
First thing he did was redirecting to another chat partner... while i was the ONLY ONE chatting to Motorola... 'cause it was 10:01 my chat started... And chat opened at 10:00...
So now i talked to Nicole...
After my first question of how they want to deliver the ICS OTA in Q2 she asked me if i have an unbranded device...
...whyever that was important...
the following facts were given to me while chatting with Nicole:
she has no idea what she's doing
development process is over (maybe)
retail version can't be delivered
she has no idea what she's doing (2nd time)
retail OTA not available because of the carriers
retail OTA can only be delivered while delivering branded OTA's
carriers are adding stuff for a branded ICS now
she has no idea if there's a SOAK test or not
she has no idea what she's doing (3rd time)
support team is responsible for providing information about ICS updates
support team has no information about ICS updates
i no more believe in any official GSM OTA for germany in Q2
... or maybe german chat support members are totally unqualified ...
PS: sorry, but my english isn't the best
I suspect that you just got someone with very limited knowledge of the ICS update schedule. We're seeing it happen for members on here so it must be in the pipeline for us non US RAZR owners, the question is when? I'm tempted to flash a non UK leak but am trying to remain patient as I'm sure that we'll have something soon ) Hear your frustration though and feel it too! Hang on in there!

Online chat support? Really??
These people are notoriously incapable of fixing anything. Their names are always fakes, since you're communicating with someone in some far off land and you'd be hard pressed to pronounce or even recognize their real name. Their answers are picked from a premade list... it's so bad, it's often assumed they're chat 'bots and not people at all... but they are.
"I am sorry you are having difficulties with your ICS for Motorola Razr today. I will do my best to resolve your question"
These people have no knowledge of updates at all. They're just a buffer zone to skim off problems before they go to phone support. Employees at the retail store level are a better source and you know how much THEY know, right?
The first person you talk to on phone support is barely better. Try to get past this person quickly and politely. When it's clear that they do not know, ask to talk to someone else. That will bring you to tier 2 support and they're the ones that have the most knowledge. But, they're less of them around, so plan on being on hold for awhile. And, when they finally talk to you, it's clear this is the first person who has even a basic clue.
...and they won't be able to answer you about ICS, either. At this point, you've wasted more time than it would have taken to plant an inside made at the Motorola's corporate offices to spy for you.
The survey website I'm using only lets me see the first 100 results but it did tell me about 120 people have taken the survey since I posted it yesterday afternoon. I'll post results later today.
Fellow Rezound users, I think the only way we'll ever get a useful reply from Verizon regarding the ICS update is to hammer them with inquiries and give them with some cold, hard stats to prove how dissatisfied their customers are. I encourage all of you to contact the Better Business Bureau and your state's Attorney General consumer fraud department and file official complaints. After you do that call and email Verizon. Don't be shy or apathetic about voicing your dissatisfaction. Make it clear to them that you've filed an official complaint.
I've also started a survey that will hopefully provide those statistics I mentioned above. As the numbers start building I'll post results for all of you to see and use. Feel free to offer any feedback. If you think this is a ridiculous, futile idea you're free to say so as well but please, regardless of which side you're on keep the comments mature and respectful.
Feel free to share this link. I want as many Rezound users as possible to speak up.
I'll post results as they come in, probably on a daily or every other day basis.

I don't think a survey is a bad thing. If you don't like the post, don't look at it. Thanks.
People act like this is uncommon. It's not. People in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 forum were pitching their fits about slow updates too from Samsung. Got our update yesterday.
I think people need to just relax. It'll come when it comes. Delays are just part of software development and business.

Does anyone think this will do anything? I mean anything other than annoying Verizon...
This happened with the Charge Gingerbread update. People were griping and complaining for months. Then the update dropped and within a week everyone immediately forgot they were ever upset. Everyone on Verizon who's had a phone in a software upgrade cycle has gone through this and *****ing won't do anything to help anyone. We are a minority and Verizon knows it. The vast majority of Rezound users don't know what Ice Cream Sandwich is and don't care if they ever get it.
The only thing these threads do in IMHO is give people a place to vent, it's not going to do anything to get Verizon to release this faster..
