[Q] Is my phone dead for good? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
i have a bad feeling of that my SGS2 is dead for good
this is what has happened:
1. I have been using CM9 for some time
2. but now im wanna go back to stock so i use odin and follows a guid i found here on the forum.
3. When i try to flash the phone with the rom i found nothing happens except the "logo loop" but the phone never starts.
4. I reboot the phone and finds another rom that should be working better.
5. When i start to flash in Odin i suddenly get "Fail" and everything freezes
6. So i pull out the battery and put it back in and try to boot in recover.
7. But i never get into recover cuz all i see is this message: "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again"
How do i fix this? can i fix it? is my phone dead?
Now i tryed to flash with odin even if im not in download mode and it found connection with my phone.
However when i try to flash i get this message in Odin:
Enter CS for MD5..
Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
Please wait..
I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
Leave CS..
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
And nothing more happens
Please help me with this.

download gb packackage, factory reset,: and get ur phone in download mode ok manually, and in odin dont put bootlooder, pit or tick re partition and after flash if u c bootloop then hus enter recovery mode and factory reset

What Version did you use before flashing stock ROM? and also state what Stock ROM did you try to flash?
I did have same problem before. what i did is flash the Latest stock ICS with ICS Bootloader.
Via Odin select:
Bootloader: ICS Bootloader
PIT: search correct PIT for your stock ROM
PDA: Latest Stock ICS rom
make sure to untick re-partition.
after flashing, quickly unplug your phone from USB.
if problem exist, try flashing again using Old Bootloader. after a successful boot, charge your phone til full charge then restart the phone.

[Q] Vibrant soft bricked; stuck in recovery

I'm a newbie. More than that; I'm an English teacher. So maybe I had no business rooting my Vibrant. But I was tired of waiting for 2.2, so I figured out how to load Axura on my rooted phone. And loved it, until it started lagging.
The mistake I made was my haste in trying to install Voodoo lag fix. I mistakenly downloaded the European version (for the i9000, instead of the T959); to compound matters, I got impatient and tried to hard boot the phone when it hadn't rebooted in five minutes.
Long story short: I figured out how to use Odin (on the Boot Camp partition of my MacBook); downloaded 1.7, along with the 512 pit file and the stock kernel. Managed to get a "Pass!" from Odin after only about 15 seconds.
But when the phone reboots, it always boots into recovery mode. I get the Vibrant splash screen, then E:Can't mount /dev/block/s111 (Invalid argument).
I've spent hours looking over the forums here, as well as on other sites, and can't find a solution. The most common suggestion is to download Eugene373's Froyo that won't brick--but it has apparently been pulled from the internet.
Any suggestions? I don't think it's hopeless, because I can get to the system recovery screen (although with only four choices: reboot system now; reinstall packages; delete all user data; delete cache data).
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
froyo has been out for the vibrant for a while.
start odin
get into download mode
plug phone in(should already be in)
make sure a com port is lit up in yellow
put these files in said sections:
PIT: http://www.divshare.com/direct/12692662-720.pit
PDA: http://www.divshare.com/direct/13144348-b8e.zip
check repartition to fix your filesystems(you must have loaded the above pit to do this or it wont go right)
click start
this will take you back to JK2(what i use for stock froyo)
Thank you very much. I knew it was something simple like this. I had the correct .pit file, but I was missing the right .tar file.
Now, I'm pleased to say that I'm out of the tarpit!
(I'm assuming that JK2 is a stock ROM that I flash back to when I get my nerves back and start trying out custom ROM's again.)
Similar issue...in ODIN hangs on setupconnection
Hi All,
I have a similar problem. I am a newbie too..so sorry for the ignorance. I have spent tons of time reading and have flashed ROMS several times successfully. But something happened, and I am unsure why.
I am now stuck in Vibrant logo screen. I am able to do the three button thing to get to Android system recovery (2e) screen. I cannot get to download screen, but ODIN recognizes the phone. Here is the message listed in Odin as it seems to be stuck on Setup Connection.
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5 is valid.

<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/018> Odin v.3 engine (ID:18)..

My phone screen says
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
Now I know update.zip file was on there and a copy exist on external card. I have tried to run android-sdk-windows to use ADB to get to download screen but am unsuccessful- ADB is not a recognized command in cmd.
So now i have no phone :-(
Please help.

You're probably going into Download mode wrong, or hitting the wrong combo, follow this guide:
1. Take off your phone's back cover and take out your SIM card.
2. Take out your phone's battery
3. Attach your USB cable to your phone while plugged in and have ODIN ready on screen.
5. You should have your usb plugged in WITHOUT your battery plugged in. Now hold both volume keys down, and put the battery back in while STILL HOLDING DOWN THE VOLUME KEYS!!!
6. Download mode should be on screen.
7. Load the .pit and .tar files into ODIN, DO NOT CHECK RE PARTITION!!!!
8. Please be patient, if you get stuck at cache, unplug and try again, that should fix your problem.
Remember don't select repartition unless you know what you're doing. That's for fixing your phone if you're really ****ed up, just try it without it first...
Nevermind... for now... adb is C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools... earlier post had it is tools. Now i have the screen i need...fingers crossed...
Vibrant Stuck in recovery loop
my phone is stuck in a recovery loop. I have tried entering into download mode but,it goes back to recovery. The message i get is
E:Missing bitmap indeterminate1

[Q] Odin problem - stuck

Hey everyone!
I have a problem with Chainfire's unlock procedure. I have manged to unlock and root my GT7100 but when i tried to flash with WIPE then with full_ROM and then UPDATE my tab won't reboot. It gets stuck on the logo screen with an open lockette on the bottom and stays there.
According to this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232664
if the tab get stuck i'm supposed to use chainfire's unlock procedure to return the device to stock rom...
While the device recognises that it is connected to my pc and prompts me to press start on Odin program, the program does not recognize that the device is connected because when i press start i get this output:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5.. <OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable.. <OSM> Please wait.. <OSM> BOOTLOADER_P7100BUKC8.tar.md5 is valid. <OSM> PDA_SIGNED_HRI83_BUKDF.tar.md5 is valid. <OSM> MODEM_HRI83_BUKDF_REV_03.tar.md5 is valid. <OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully.. <OSM> Leave CS.. <OSM> All threads completed. Extra info:
-The device is recognized as a fastboot device when i run fastboot devices.
-The device has wiped "sdcard" so there's nothing in there to work with.
-No matter how many times i've tried i can't use adb push because everywhere in these forums they refer to the target device as /sdcard/ which I cannot use and there is no possible target name i can use as the tab is not recognised by windows in this condition.
What do I do?
plz help!
First of questions should not be asked here as a main thread, it is dev, and probably best maybe to ask this question in the specific thread. Should have been asked in Q&A, mod please move.
1st Can you get into CWM recovery?
you say you can see device via adb, sdcard is mapped to /data/media/, can you see that?
Questions or Problems Should Not Be Posted in the Development Forum
Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to General
ok! sorry about wrong posting place! i thought i could add it below the tutorial that i followed...
Anyhow...
@isimobile
I can only open recovery by executing
fastboot boot skitzandroid-recovery.zip
As far as I know (maybe i'm wrong) CWM need the tab to be in working condition...and all mine does is show the logo screen...
From the recovery menu that I get from the above command i can see the contents of my internal memory which at the moment is empty.
(there are no folders). I was thinking that maybe i could flash again using another custom rom or the stock rom (if i can find it anywhere that is) by tapping the update command in the recovery menu.
Thnx for the feedback!

[Q] newb needs help to install 4.0.3 on SGS2

Hi all,
Apologies for a newb question. I'm trying to install ice-cream sandwich via Odin, and as far as I can tell I'm doing everything right, but nothing is happening.
Here are the details of my phone currently:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android version 2.3.3
Baseband version: I910000XXKF1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
When I try to update the phone via Kies it tells me that the firmware is "up to date".
I tried to update via Odin using this firmware: I9100XWLP8_I9100OPSLP4_OPS However, after I hit start, I get the following message in Odin, and it stops right there.

Am I using the wrong firmware? May I have potentially left out an important step?
1: restart your PC
2: do not start kies / close it if open
3: put your phone in download mode
4: plug in the USB cable in the motherboard side of the USB socket.
5: start Odin flash
6: after boot using dial code wipe.
Unfortunately I did all that. Anything else I might be missing? Does it matter which Kernel the phone is currently using?
Y dont you try rooting your device and then flash a custom rom via recovery mod

Check & repeat it again if u've missed one of :
1. Download Intratech Odin v.3 1.85 (*credits to Intratech)
2. Uninstall Kies (coz he hates Odin & I'm not kidding..)
3. Reboot PC
4. Run Odin 1.85
5. Select the rom by clicking (just) PDA button & tick one package & autoreboot (don't even touch pit)
6. Navigate to download mode then Connect ur phone to PC
7. Detected (yellow)
8. Click start
9. If its success it'll be 'pass' & do the phone rebooting..then disconnect from PC.
EDiT :
Btw kernel u've been currently used wasn't matter coz official stock roms will do a system full wipe & format (not include ext mmc) but avoid LPQ5.
Good luck mate..

[Q] System update bricked my phone!?!

I have a Samsung S3 on O2 (UK). Yesterday I got a system update notification and I downloaded and installed the update (it was quite big, about 300MB). There were no issues during the install and it restarted fine when it finished, however about an hour later the phone just restarted itself on its own (it was in my pocket) and then just kept looping the restart process over and over. I couldnt get the phone to get passed the logo screen. I tried removing the battery, sim card, etc but nothing helped. I read in a post here to try to use the "Recovery Mode" to restart the device. I did that and it worked, I was able to get the phone started again, but about half an hour later it did exactly the same thing but this time I couldn't get into recovery mode anymore! I read a few more posts on this forum and it looked like the update had soft bricked my phone. I could get the phone into download mode so I thought I would try using Odin to re-install the stock firmware. I followed the instructions on the post to the letter, downloaded the correct firmware from Samsung, installed the USB drivers for the phone but when I tried to use Odin it just said the the update failed. Now when I turn on the phone I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I have read a few posts on suggested work arounds but no matter what I try Odin always just gets stuck on "Nand Start Write!!!". I have tried re-installing the USB driver, using a different cable and even a diff computer but always the same.
Can anyone help? This is really annoying. I have never tried to do a root or mess around with the phone so it seems really odd that something like this would happen following a standard update
P.S These are the instructions I followed when I tried to re-install the official firmware - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969

Its not letting me boot to recovery mode anymore. I can boot to download mode but when I try to boot to recovery mode it just keeps looping the startup screen which at the moment is the error message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Then flash a stock ROM image through Odin
You only need to boot into download mode for odin download the relevant firmware package and odin when you connect it via usb in download mode you will notice the first com port on odin turn yellow to indicate a device is connected
Do a search for detailed instructions buddy

Hmmm. When I connect the phone it makes the sound in Windows that the phone has been connected but then in Odin the com port is blue not yellow. Does that mean that it has not detected the phone properly?

CM 9 is available for ace duos(search on youtube), not so stable
CM 7.2 is also there with different mods(sd card not working, single sim)
for a stable one use A-droid and then flash DW ROM3.5
