I am looking for update my ATT dell Streak with O2 2.1 on it to DjSteve Rom but i am not been able to do anything using MAC ?
can someone please help me how can i make it happen using mac
You can do all the steps list on the Mac without issue.
1) Install the Android SDK and make sure it is in your system path so the commands will be recognized.
2) Follow the rest of the steps, but when using fastboot make sure to use the PC commands, not the Mac (Mac commands did not work for me)
If you give me specifics of where you are I may be able to help
you dont need to download the SDK, just grab the fastboot files
Not Android Development you could have asked the question in steves thread and not created a new thread

Hi,
My vibrant is on official 2.2. I hate it because it lags too much.....so i want to try some roms out here.....but the problem is i cant seem to gain confidence in doing so.
So request you guys to please provide me a step by step guide what i am required to do in order to make this hw perform as it should. I dont have root also in my phone.
Lucky for you, multiple step by step guides exist. Search for the vibrant bible. Everything you could need to know.

Please put your questions to: Vibrant Q&A
too simple so imma explain
1.download rom er phone
2.download clockwork recovery
3.install clockwork you downloaded on your phone
4.put the rom u downloaded from internrt put it on internal SD
5. power off your phone , hold vol up vol down and power boot the phone once you see blue stuff press install packages this will take u in clock work
5.once in new menu click advance and nandroid backuip !
7. from there go to install zip
7. click
8.patience its whiping your data hope you backed up everything at this point !
9.dont touch until finished , after go to wipe cash partition , go to advance wipe battery stats .
10. give 10 min at first boot once you restart your phone .
enjoy your phone
Im new to all this myself but I think you skipped the gain root access step. To the op...look in the Vibrant Q+A forums which this thread now resides in and one of the sticky threads at the top should say something like "Noob guide to flashing roms, gaining root .....etc". This is the step by step guide I think you are looking for.
This should get you started. It did me and my next step is to actually flash the rom....once I get the confidence.

hi all, just joined, recently bought an ace, i have rooted it and now its slower than ever, i have heard about custom roms but to be honest i still have no clue whats what, so thought id join and ask people who know what they are talking about, few things, 1.do all custom roms come in english , 2. which one is best, 3. how do i install it.
i know these are probably stupid questions but i am seriously no good at this stuff, any help , advice or recommendations on a rom would be great , cheers all , alyn.
p.s. i have searched forums and read few things but still no clue what im doing hence the noob post.
we were all noobs once... lol. There are many good tutorials, I suggest you read a few of the pinned topics like the noob guide to get a good idea of the process.

Hi! I'm a noob too... but i read some very good posts, they are pinned.
1- You can change the language in first boot after install, all come in english, but theres a lot of languages available, i'm brazillian and i use portuguese
2- The best rom is the rom that you like more, i think... I always use Jusada's roms, now i'm using Carbon Sunday by Jusada, this is a very fast rom, and i like style too, and well, its android... we can do whatever we want to adjust de style.....
3- Read this Tutorial
i prefer this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392029
if you like galaxy sII
is stock
and has a lot of tweaks and ported stuff
also 14 toggle mod
and more

cheers guys , so basically after ive rooted my phone(which is already done) to install a custom rom its the same process as rooting it, according to kies i have newest firmware , so i think its just a case of picking a rom now, i cant seem to get odin as the linnks dont work for me will this matter , i dont have android sdk i juat have kies, but from what ive seen thats all i need to put custom rom on my phone, alyn.
if i have newest firmware and phone is rooted , can i just pick a rom and install it using same method i did for rooting, i have odin 4.38 now , dont understand what clockwork mod is, but will same method as rooting work or will it damage my phone ,i have kies installed , cheers.
ignore last post re-reading hubix's guide i know its the same process now , just confused me to start because of all the software listed at beginning, now all i need is a rom to use, are there any threads with images of the screen i found a few but none that really caught my eye as yet. also what does hubix mean by 'flash custom recovery' do i need to do this before a put a new rom on my phone, cheers, alyn.

Yeah you need cwm to flash any custom rom, on developers forum are CWM 5 and CWM 4 (cwm 5 is the recovery almost every developer is using to flash his roms now) (epic bad english sry XD)
right ive installed cwm 5 , but no idea what the following means to test cwm as i cant find any of the mentioned commands on the screen
Flash Custom Recovery:
1) Push recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace.img to your device using "adb push recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img /tmp/" command
2) Turn off your phone
3) Press POWER+HOME BUTTON
4) Login to your device over "adb shell"
5) Mount /system using "mount /dev/block/stl12 /system" command
6) Flash CWM recovery using "flash_image recoveryonly /tmp/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img" command
7) Umount /system using "umount /system" command
8) Reboot your device using "reboot recovery" command to test your new CWM recovery
9) Reboot your device
If you have already installed CWM, reboot your phone holding down the Power Button and Home Button until CWM Screen appear
If you do this and doenst show the CWM screen, with some commands, try re-install CWM, the right way now....
I cant see where you can have difficult in Tutorial... But if you still having doubts, just post again...

I'm on Vodafone in the UK and I've tried most of the ROMs and they have been fine. Unlocking just stops you using a non-Vodafone SIM. If you flash a custom ROM it will unlock itself.

im gonna try to install the sgs revolved rom , if i dont like it how do i go about putting the original rom back in.
The best Custom ROM is CyanogenMod.
If you don't like it, then stick to stock 2.3.6..
Stock 2.3.6's battery life is IMPRESSIVE!
Back to the topic, root doesn't have any effects on performance!

this guide is for peole who jus cant get s-off or just need the 4ext recovery but cant get it because of bootloops etc
this gude also assumes u have installed have android sdk to the root of your computers C: driv
1. Head to http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PG8610000_...2fs_unlock.exe
2. Follow the steps to unlock your device. Then, reboot into Fastboot.
(by pressing the power button on your phone and you should see Fastboot USB. If you don't, just press the power button when Fastboot is highlighted.)
it's time to push a recovery.img.
1. Download http://animeondroid.host22.com/recovery.img = Thanks 4ext team.
2. Once that is downloaded, place the recovery.img into your adb location (at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools).
Now if you're not using a 64-bit OS then you won't need the ' (x86).'
3. Okay. once the .img is in there then use the command prompt.
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
4. Press Enter. This will change the directory to your adb location.
5. Now power your phone into fastboot in the bootloader once again. Just hook your phone up to the usb and then go into the bootloader and press power after it loads. You should see Fastboot USB.
6. Type in:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If you're recovery img isn't named this, then rename it to recovery.img, it's easiest ^>^
7. Then hit enter and the phone will be flashed with the recovery.
8.Boot into recovery and enable smartflash so tht even though youre s-on you can flash any rom/kernal
EDIT: tell the recovery that your device is actually s-on by turning smart flash on
This is done when you install recovery and answer the question that you are s-on with "yes"
You can also change that setting later on via RecoveryControl -> Recovery settings, or by editing 4ext.prop manually
Recovery will autodetect any changes done to "boot" and only attempt to flash your boot partition if it was really changed
for me incase of updates or broken inks
Also rawr im a dinosaur tht is all XD
I just bought the app lol

This thread belongs over in the E3D General Forum along with mpgrimm2's guide that includes the same information and more in this post.
Also note that he links directly to th 4EXT website for the download of that recovery instead of some third party site. The recovery.img file for 4EXT is also available in the OP of the thread for that recovery here on the E3D Development Forum.

No, there is a reason for the sticky that says to read first before posting in the development thread. This is just a guide that belongs in "general" unless you add something that you developed yourself. No one is trying to flame you, its just crazy how many people post here and they did not dev anything.

Hi,
I tried to flash your 4ext file over my cwm but now neither works. If I choose RECOVERY in the fastboot I only get the greenHTC onwhite.
HOW CAN I REPAIR MY RECOVERY to either of the two?
Is there some way to download a whole ics stock rom that I could either run from bootloader or from cmd?
Thank you all.

You can get the recovery.img version of 4EXT Recovery in the downloads section of the OP for the CDMA thread, but it should work on GSM models as well.

Oh sorry I didn't was to crowd the forum.
To fix this problem you have to do the following:
1) Download 4EXT Recovery (my choice): http://www.4ext.net/ddl/pyramid/recovery.zip
2) Unzip the file, and copy the recovery.img into you ADB/Fastboot or Android SDK folder.
3) Put the phone into bootloader mode, put in the following command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
