For the confusion in this thread THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT! I am just letting everyone know that we dont need imagesense to have the one series camera features and for HTC saying we cant get sense 4 because of it.
Well some people on some other forms I checked actually think imagesense is a gimmick to buy HTC One phones and I AGREE! Here's why
IMAGESENSE
#1 Superfast Capture. WHICH REZOUND SENSE 4.0 ROMS HAVE.
#2 HTC Video Pic capture. WHICH REZOUND SENSE 4.0 ROMS WILL HAVE (as soon as devs fix it.)
#3 Always Focus. WHICH IF YOU TURN OFF AUTOFOCUS FOR ME AT LEAST STAYS IN FOCUS ALL THE TIME.
#4 Continuous Shooting. WELL IF YOU DOWNLOAD FAST BURST CAMERA OFF THE MARKET YOU DO AND YOU GET 30 SHOTS A SECOND WITH MAX UP TO 102 SHOTS. SO IF THE APP MAKES IT POSSIBLE WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET IT TO WORK ON THE STOCK CAMERA.
#5 Low light. HTC EVEN MENTIONED OUR REZOUND HAS THE LOW LIGHT SENSOR FOR THOSE TYPE OF SHOTS.
#6 HDR. WHICH REZOUND SENSE 4.0 ROMS HAVE AND IT WORKS. Edit DOES NOT EVEN TAKE A SHOT ON LATEST RELEASE. WORKED ON EARLIER RELEASES OF SENSE 4 BUT STILL CAN BE FIXED.
#7 HTC Smart Flash. Ok our Rezound may not have that but ive never took a bad photo with flash so no need.
So do we really need imagesense to get these features? No.
My initial response no longer makes sense since the OP changed the subject of the topic.
Wait, what are we upset about? I'm confused.

The Rezound and One X both have the exact same camera module so the only difference is what ever Imagesense has to add. I really want to see side by side comparison to see if there is a difference or not.
The main purpose of Imagesense (aside from marketing) appears to just be offloading the work from the main CPU. I did not find any improved functionality when reading through the feature list.

Or he has Sense 4 envy, and he's a little leery of claims that it only works with ImageSense.

Are you sure about this? I thought the apertures were different, with One X having f/2.0 and Rezound being f/2.2. Or are you counting the optics separately from the "camera module"?

Pretty much HTC is making a big deal about imagesense for their new phones but in reality any recent HTC phone can get those features that imagesense provides if they have sense 4 rom.

Sorry I was referring to the CMOS. I honestly kind of forgot about the optics. What? You mean there is a visual/physical side to photography too???
The CMOS is Samsung S5K3H2YX. For reference: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5779/htc-one-x-for-att-review/5
I would still like to see a head to head shoot out in a situation where f/2.0 wouldn't be a benefit.
These forums are getting confusing. I don't know if this is a complaint aimed at HTC, Sense, the Rezound or what.
The Rezound was the top dog for a few months. Now the HTC One X is, with the ImageSense or without it. In two months, the One X will be outdated technology because that's just how it works. Just be happy with what you have. (Or pony up the cash for a new device.)

Basically, yeah it's only been what 6 months since the phone has been out it's the best on verizon and it won't be getting sense 4 because it doesn't support imagesense yet it can do all of the "features" of imagesense. So it's people calling out on bull**** marketing.
Yeah it's been 6 months and a lot of the people here paid top dollar for a product that is capable of running the next version of the companies stuff, it's logical that it should be upgraded but it won't be because of some bs marketing.

you do realize that part of imagesense is that the camera has its own dedicated processor, right? How will the rezound replicate that? Android has 40 processes running in the background that the camera has to fight with for cpu on our phones.

Lol, that's why I asked what we were upset about a page ago. Imagesense is about an extra processor dedicated to the camera. A processor the Rezound simply doesn't have.

I retract my statement I was unaware of this.
So our phone doesn't have the hardware power for some more camera features correct?
I thought dual core phones was pretty strong/powerful ... guess not
Rezound is like the second or third phone on verizon with dual core and lte...
Yet it already is lacking hardware power?
Well that's good technology is moving fast i guess

its not that our phones couldn't run most of the camera features, its just that with the one series, the camera has its own dedicated cpu so they can push it harder.

... would this still be the phone to get over the SGSII? I'm not talking about sense vs touchwiz, i'm talking about raw power. How would the two phones compare running a stable nearly identical CM7? Can anyone (NO BIAS please) explain to me which phone has better capabilities?
I know I'm getting WAYY ahead of myself, but i'm still deciding IF HTC responded to their customers and unlocked the bootloader if I would get the EVO 3D or still wait for the SGSII, considering I'm sticking with either one for the next two years.
I've heard people say the SGSII has better raw power-- on the SGSII forum
I've also heard the some of you on this forum say the EVO 3D is better. Obviously, there is some bias involved and one phone is more powerful than the other.
I actually have some hope that HTC might do something about the bootloader. If this is the case, I have a really tough decision on which phone to still get. As for now, if the bootloader remains unlocked, its SGSII all the way

seriously why does it even matter? Say one phone is faster than the other. The specs are so close together that any speed difference would barley even be noticeable on a side by side. The difference would be nothing if you didn't have both phones in hand.
Really I think the biggest difference would be the UI, so debate sense vs touchwiz
Why does it matter what phone is faster?? Well thats a stupid question

No, it's a valid question and jessejames makes a very good point ... the specs are so close that any speed difference would be negligible from a user standpoint, especially if you're not actually doing a side-by-side comparison.
I'd even go so far as to say that the effective data rate differences between the various 4G transmission standards will have significantly more of an effect on apparent phone response times in many applications than any actual benchmark differences between the two phones.
I feel like the EVO 3d isn't much of an improvement over the EVO. Downgrade in camera department and no full 1080p recording. And still skimping on internal storage...not sure if the 3d screen is worth losing those other features....
I think ima wait for the sgs2 since the EVO 3d is the same as my EVO with a 3d screen and slightly better performance
After seeing the sgs2 vs HTC sensation it makes me wonder about the snapdragon processor....it doesn't compare in those performance test

Bump the processing power from 1Ghz to 1.2Ghz then double it, double the ram, bump the resolution to qHD, shoot 1080p in 2D, 720p in 3D, and that's not much of an upgrade from the original EVO?

I do believe you are just misinformed. The EVO is the Sensation just with 3d added. They both have a SLCD qhd display. Also, just because the Sensation's camera is 8mp does not mean it is better. The EVO is 8mp and the camera is much worse then many other phones that are 5mp.
You need to do some more research as far as MP's are concerned as well as the comparing the Sensation to the EVO 3d.
I believe I was very nice with my response. Other's might not be this kind to you. lol

Your basing camera quality on MPs. That's your first mistake, HTC has stated the camera on the E3D is much improved over the original evo. Why? Better lens, hardware, etc. MPs don't matter as much as you would like to believe. The 5MP camera on the iPhone is a perfect example. More on board storage would be nice but with 32GB mSD available and 64GB on the way I'm not too worried about it. Storage has never been an issue for me in the past and it won't be in the future.
Tapa tapa tapa
OP, its going to come down to personal preference. Both of these phones have monstrous specs and will perform quote similarly. They both have rock star CPUs and GPUs and will be very closely matched in performance.

If you are even familiar with the actual specs--which it sounds like you definitely are not--then you have absolutely no understanding of what they mean.
This phone is a beast. Any performance difference between the two will be negligible bone-stock and even more negligible modded to the teeth.
Tell us, what did they "skimp out" on? The asynchronous dual core 1.2gHz cpu? The kick-ass new adreno gpu? the qHD screen that just so happens to also do 3D? A GIGABYTE of ram? Over a certain amount internal storage means absolutely nothing to anybody who knows better, and Evo3D is far past this amount.
Not to mention HTC build quality and dev community (now with official mfgr support). I would accuse you of holding specs in too high a regard over other more important things...but I don't think you even understand the specs enough to be doing that.
Someone gave you some koolaide and you drank it. You love koolaide.

This is yet another portion of your mis-information. You realize the two screens have differing resolutions, correct? Not a little difference either, but a vast 35% pixel difference. The Adreno 220 is I believe more powerful then the SGS2's gpu, but is also doing 35% more work with the higher pixel count that qHD brings to the table.
Also, pure processing tests did not show the sensation as weaker, it got what, 46MFLOPS? Not to mention the dual core is much more efficient on battery life then the tegra2 was.
Your points are all invalid as you simply don't include all the variables that create the differences.
Edit: I want to add my post was not meant as a defense of the E3D, as I'm personally seriously considering the SGS2 solely for its slenderness. But when you see posts that full of one sided information and wrong conclusions it's only natural to respond.
This is in the general section, so I think I'm safe posting this, heh.
I'm going to start by saying this: I love my E3D. I left TMo before getting the Sensation to come back to Sprint for the Evo 3D. Locked bootloader or no, broken promises or no, this is the BADDEST device I've ever had my hands on!
That being said, yes, I'm more than a tad honked off @ HTC for tossing us BS/No answers for the bootloader unlocking issue, and have sent my emails to them in kind. I've been watching the Facebook/Twitter/Official Web sites since these shenanigans started, and what I see shocks me... People literally THREATENING HTC with things ranging from something as severe as hacking the company, to as minor as just returning their phones.
The worst I see though, are the threats to go with the Galaxy S2.
How quickly some forget the crap that Samsung was party to in regards to the Moment, the Epic/Vibrant/Captivate/Fascinate, and the Intercept. Did we all just blank out that time in our collective consciousness, the crap that was packaged as a Samsung device? How terrible they performed? How they kept promising phantom updates that would not show up at all or materialize, brick phones, then be pulled off the market? How they liked to fall apart and not work? The only Samsung device worth its salt, that I can see, is the Nexus S - and that's mostly because it was pure Google software.
Sure, the GS2 may have killer specs that make our Evo 3D's look like yesterday's garbage, but I've not once had ANY issue with my HTC devices from WM6 to Android - but I've had nothing but a terrible history with Sammy, and I know I'm not the only one.
So... IJS. My 2 cents on the whole issue - I hope it was coherent enough to make Sense (lolz)... pain killers for the back are a b****.
Edit: I just read the post with the HTC response that they WILL unlock the bootloader, so that's at least a step in the right direction..
/rant
I didn't even know about the complaining on Facebook until I read this post...it all seems ridiculous. They announced they would unlock the bootloader probably well after the 3D went into final production. The update is coming, I have no doubt in my mind that it will.
That being said, however, one post kinda made me laugh a little: "Give us s-off or you can f-off."
I'm hoping every thread on the 1st page of the Evo 3d general forums is filled with complaining about bootloader's. Seems to be the trend.

What might that be? Both have 1.2 ghz dual core cpus, and 1gb ram. That did crack me up.
The complaining got them to step up and commit to unlock in the first place. That HTC page is going to be a warzone until they start systematically issuing the OTAs that will unlock these devices we paid for.
...and so far as the threats of buying Samsung, while I agree with you (except that the NexusS is somehow any better...same weak radios, my main concern), consumers should 'vote with their wallet' more often. Then companies might be a little more cautious about trying bull**** like this. Even if they provide a technically better product if it is not provided on terms you agree with (locked) or worse yet the company lies to you about future functionality...well...vote with your wallet. That's a language they'll understand.

I completely agree with you, and I stay away from everything Sammy usually, so I didn't fully realize how close the devices are hardware-wise.
I'm digging my 3d capability, and I think I've almost got it dialed-in.
All I know is I compared my EVO 3d to my (rich) buddies unlocked galaxy s2. I prefer the EVO 3d screen, and this one is ever bit as fast. No questions....all you got to do is turn off the animations in display settings and the speed is instantaneous since it is bypassing the fading animation. Slap adw launcher and the phone is as fast as a phone can possibly be.
All things compared, camera as well, the EVO 3d excelled along side the gs2. My buddy....he is contemplating switching to sprint just for this phone.
All in all the gs2 appears fast because the touchwiz launcher is a barebone launcher....only cosmetic differences from vanilla...

Actually I like threads like this.
It gives everyone an unbiased opinion on the device that is looking to purchase it.
Looking back if I knew everything back then that I do now I wouldn't have bought the Amaze either. New buyers have an advantage now. I'll keep it open as long as the OP isn't a troll and this doesn't turn into a flamewar.

ya i just don't want it to turn into a flamewar that was all!!! If I knew everything back then that I do now, I would still go with the amaze , I saw and played with the galaxy nexus before I purchased the amaze... guess it's personal preference!!

The only thing good about the nexus is the screen. The phone is only running a 1.2ghz possessor so in the you will be able to get better performance out of the amaze. The nexus's camera is not impressive at all with only 5Mp and single led. No sd card slot. Just saying that it could be the way you are running your phone that makes it slow. You can do way more with the amaze than you can the nexus. In the end they don't call the amaze the iPhone killer for nothing.

The fact that the amaze runs a 1.5ghz cpu and the nexus runs 1.2ghz cpu doesnt automatically mean the nexus is slower. The software installed has lots of impact on phones performance. So my guess is that ics is lighter than sense...

you know I looked at the phone and I actually did like it, but there were a lot of dissapointing features for me to dish out and buy it. First off the camera is below supbar, cameras now are 8mp and in a few months we'll start seeing better cameras than even our amaze.
second was the pentile screen, I had the nexus one and hated pentile. Even at 720p you can tell it's pentile because the screen is so huge...the 720p rezound looks much much better, I am a big fan of amoled but only if samsung figures out how to put a super amolded PLUS 720p on a phone!
The great thing about the phone which I miss about my nexus one is developement support. It's google flagship, and will have huge ammount of support for years to come, even the nexus one still have lot of support.
I would not necessarily say that the galaxy nexus is slower with 1.2 because it uses an OMAP processor. I havn't done a the research on omap vs snapdragon 3, and honestly it surprises me why samsung didn't use the exynos processor in this phone. a 1.2 exynos processor can compete and beat our amazes 1.5 snapdragon 3 but I don't know about the omap process. I believe a reason that the phone seems faster is support for multicore on ics...right now we do not officially have support for dual core...as we get ICS I bet/hope we will much improved speeds. with that said I have not had any lag or anything like that on my phone with clock set at 1.5.
I was debating on getting a second phone and it would be the galaxy nexus...but again It would probably be sitting on my desk rather than in my pocket. I would probably use it for a lot of rom flashing playing around etc.
What I really liked about the amaze is dedicated camcorder and camera buttons, and a really nice camera...
on the galaxy nexus I could do away with the camcorder button, but I do really need a camera button. If they had put a better camera on that phone with a dedicate camera button, I would have dealt with the 720 pentile screen and gone for that phone. But right now all of samsung cameras on their phones are inferior to the HTC amaze and HTC rezounds camera, not to say this won't change in the future.
one last point was that galaxy nexus felt a little too big in the hand, I think 4.3 inch screen is the max i'm willing to go for a phone (one reason I returned my sgsII was the huge size), I could car less about the weight, as long as I'm now benching the phone in the gym, thinness is also an issue and the amaze is as thick as i'm willing to have my phone.

I was taking photos with my Galaxy Nexus and the Prime.
The Galaxy Nexus takes pictures almost instantaneously and the Prime takes like forever.
Is this something that could be improved with a software update or is it a hardware limitation?
Maybe its missing ZSL (zero shutter lag) drivers?
If that's the case, as soon as kernel source is out, they can be added.

It has to push a lot more pixels as it's an 8MP sensor vs. a 5MP sensor. I believe this is most of the reason Samsung/Google decided on a 5MP sensor for the Nexus.

Same amount of people that need GPS on their tablet. But I LOVE the camera on my prime and the quality. There are many times where I wish I had my tablet on me though to use instead of my phone (Droid Bionic). But sadly its hard to carry a tablet around all the time so in reality I hardly ever use the tablets camera but I 100% of the time wish I could.

My bad, for some reason I thought I was in Sensation forum. Apologies for confusion.

from what i recall reading, samsung and google made some very specific optimizations in both hardware and software to make the galaxy nexus have such a short shutter lag ("zero" is a marketing exaggeration, but it is definitely sub-second).
for all we know the GN camera may have a dedicated image processor on-board to facilitate this, and ICS could have special software support for it. we'd have to look at the source to know. either way, from what i've seen ICS alone has not been reducing shutter lag on other devices.
but the GN shutter lag came at a cost. GN camera quality is significantly worse than the GSII (along with plenty of other devices), and that's not just a megapixel thing. this has been noted in reviews and i've seen them side-by-side myself. so it looks like some design trade-offs are involved.

in an attempt to avoid the usual downward spiral that most threads on this forum seem to inevitably take, i'll try and be polite...
please explain and backup your point with some details rather than just slapping a "wrong" on the thread and moving on. i did not state that the galaxy nexus is the only device with "zero shutter lag". i simply said that, from what i have read, this was achieved on the GN with a combination of hardware and software optimizations. the reference i am specifically thinking about was an interview with a google product manager at the galaxy nexus launch event. so that's not "wrong", it's actually a very well-sourced piece of information.
none of this precludes the HTC sensation from having "zero shutter lag", which i will continue to put in quotes because no shutter is instantaneous. HTC may have taken similar steps with the sensation design to minimize shutter lag. i am also not precluding shutter lag from IMPROVING through software, particularly 3rd party camera implementations that can choose to make different trade-offs while processing raw camera data.
all i'm saying is that people should not expect ICS upgrades to instantly make a laggy camera fast. this was a galaxy nexus feature, not an ICS feature.
I am at work so I do not feel like going into a whole spiel here, but you asked for details.
I run an HTC Evo 3D, Ihave ZSL on it thanks to the kernel I use, so, there you go.

Wrong is wrong. It was definition of your statement. Your info is from what you've read, my info is from what I've had on my device and what kernel devs were doing.
So, I'll repeat myself again. ZSL are drivers, which can be implemented once kernel source is available. Wherever its easy or difficult to do is another matter.
Again. ZSL is the driver in kernel.
Regarding Sensation. I can't remember what build it was in, but it was Gingerbread. Current ICS builds (test leaks) don't have it.
I don't really understand tour hostility toward my reply, I was only stating facts.

You could try Fast Busrt Camera - it's fast.
ah i see what you're saying now. sorry if that sounded hostile, i had misinterpreted your original comments.
so we have a few devices where 3rd party kernels have been able to bring ZSL where it was not previously present. that is very interesting, i was not aware of this. now i'm curious to know how the devs did this...
that may also be the explanation for the comments made at the GN launch regarding google and samsung working together on making the camera ZSL. google probably produced the kernel for the GN themselves considering that the GN was the development device for ICS. since it's a kernel driver the implementation is going to be device-specific and it seems that asus did not do the same work for the tf201 camera.
... to HTC mid-ranged phones, states as INCLUDING the Droid DNA on VZW..
It looks like a couple of the HTC One’s flagship features will also be finding their way to HTC’s future mid-ranged devices. Phil Roberson, the head of HTC UK and Ireland, stated that HTC’s Blinkfeed and Ultrapixel services will be available for as many of its devices as possible. He says, “Wherever the technology is possible, we’re looking to take as much of the technology and enrich all of our customers.”
This is great news for consumers who love the new features of the HTC One, but do not have the money to opt for such a high-end device. This also follows last week’s good news when HTC announced that owners of the HTC One X+, HTC One X, HTC One S, and the HTC Butterfly (HTC DROID DNA on Verizon Wireless) will be upgraded to Sense 5 in the future. HTC is doing a great job at making all of its customers feel included.
Blinkfeed, a beautiful RSS news feed available right from the screen of your phone, is most likely to be available for most HTC smartphones because its all software based. Getting Ultrapixel, HTC’s own branded camera technology, into mid-ranged devices may be a bit trickier however. Roberson stated, “There will be certain technical challenges, but the tech does support the other elements of it which we can take to other parts of the portfolio.”
The HTC One is HTC’s last shot at launching itself out of the financial hole that its currently in. It features impressive specs, like a 4.7-inch HD display and a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor. It’s flagship features like Blinkfeed, Ultrapixel, and Sense 5 should also help make it stand out in the market. It’s also good to know that even though it’ll be focusing all of its marketing efforts on the HTC One, HTC won’t be neglecting its future mid-tier devices.

Ultra pixel is a hardware thing, it has nothing to do with the software of the phone.

Yeah I know that, but this part of the article intrigues me:
"Getting Ultrapixel, HTC’s own branded camera technology, into mid-ranged devices may be a bit trickier however. Roberson stated, “There will be certain technical challenges, but the tech does support the other elements of it which we can take to other parts of the portfolio.”"
so I mean a software update isn't going to make our phones *grow* a few more 4mp sensors, but if better technology from their new camera can be implemented into our cameras (where there is room for improvement), than more power to them.
I kinda want to know why the DNA is considered a mid range phone.

That's a good point actually... I mean as far as I'm concerned... the One has a faster clocked cpu (but same base cpu?)
completely new camera, slightly smaller screen w/same resolution, front mounted dual speakers... and what else really? It's not like the jump from an inc2 to a rezound... I think they just nested the DNA with any phone that's not the One, tbh, and threw the tag "mid-range" onto it

The camera is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better. You also forgot larger storage which is a major problem for the DNA in the eyes of many users, in most cases causing them to keep their Samsung SGS3 or Note 2. Not to mention software will always be out first on the flagship, plus you get it right away.
I recently made a post on here arguing why I would never get the M7 (One) and was not going to sacrifice .3" of screen real estate etc, but after seeing all of the hands on videos I am hooked on it.
I love the look of the black one so much! - It is definitely not a MAJOR upgrade internally but it is CERTAINLY a better phone than the DNA on paper and due to the nature of the videos.
Not only that, it will be released globally and will for sure have more development. Not that what we have is bad, it can always be better and flourish faster. The only thing I will hate if I upgrade to this phone is waiting for the hacks to use the phone

A little birdie mentioned to me in passing today that the first test sense5 android 4.1.2 entered Verizon testing a few days ago
What does that mean to us?
Honestly, who knows....Verizon could take months of testing and rejections and resubmissions by HTC before its officially out...at which point many users could be running stable ports for awhile
But nice to know its not "well yeah one day maybe we will update this phone" and in the meantime they forget about it
Do you guys know if the port for sense 5 for the DNA will support Zoe & Zoe Share? It seems like a software feature... but maybe not?
Right now I still think the DNA is better because its got wireless charging.... but if the port wont support zoe share I may switch to the HTC one.
