Ok I'm on a Epic right now, but my wife and youngest have EVO 3d's and they rock as good as my rooted Epic, so I'm thinking about getting one, only problem is I hate stock phones for all the obvious reasons, so I started reading here and I can't believe it you guys have actually rooted a EVO3D?
WOW, makes my decision to get one easy doesn't it, although it'll be next April when I do its nice to know I'll have root and roms a waiting

I'm afraid next April you won't find an EVO 3D for sale (maybe eBay/Craigslist). By then the EVO 4G LTE will be almost a year old and will soon be replaced (usually new flagship EVOs drop in June/July).

This is how it starts,
For me its just the HTC devices. Im not much into moto, or samsung, But I do have to say if the Nexus s was dual core, Id try it out too.
Now that people have the phone in their hands, is it worth it to upgrade to the Evo 3D. Since there are rumors of the SGS2 (within) coming to sprint on the 24th of july, would people recommend waiting or just get the 3D now and calling it good?
No BS assessment
HTC=LEGENDARY
SAMSUNG=NO COMMENT
I love my evo 3D its godlike, 3D is actually bad ass, I thought it was going to be annoying/gimmicky lol.

Honestly you could second guess yourself to death.....There's always going to be the next great phone that's just around the corner. I got my 3vo and I love it, plus personally I'd never by another Samsung phone in my life.....but that's my opinion. If you look at the phone, try it, like it, and can see yourself using it for 22 months go for it, if not wait for the next one.

So you think samsung will be as bad with updates as they were with the previous galaxy phones? I had an epic but i returned it because of the screen wobble and froyo never coming
I guess the real question is will anything coming in the next month be honestly significantly faster than the EVO 3D? If not, then why wait

My personal opinion is get the Evo. Even if the SGS2 comes out in July, you can always swap. Also, most any phone thats going to come out in the group is going to perform more than adequately. I like the look and feel of the Evo 3d, and HTC has a history of dev support.
I don't know....maybe they turned over a new leaf, but in the past I've had too many problems with Samsung to give them another chance. I had my HTC HeroC for the last 16 months and it has been a wonderfull phone...now my son has it. Good quality, lots of potential, durable.....but hey these are just my own opinions. Go have a look for yourself, if you like it get it. It's a pretty safe bet that in the next month Sprint's not going to put out anything that's going to exceed this phones capabilities.

The problem is that Samsung's international support is better than for their US products. Whether this is squarely on Samsung's shoulders is up for debate. They at least appear to be trying to appeal to the mod scene and with more than just words. I like their AMOLED screen, but I like the high res of the Evo 3d. They both look like great phones, but the Evo 3d got here first.
I guess I'll just go for it. It does look like there are some issues, but of course you always hear more from the people with problems than those who are content. Plus HTC looks like it has been receptive to fixing problems.
Buy the E3D and if you don't like it you have 30 days to exchange it.
You do realize that Samsung has provided the CyanogenMod team with SGS2's? That means that Cyanogen will most likely use that phone as the base for his ROM.
Samsung is loosening up their hold on their phones and the specs on the SGS2 phone are sick. I'm holding off for that phone instead because I won't use 3D as I already get migraines.
I'll wait for the next best thing.

Ok guys I'm at the Sprint store debating on whether or not to return my defective 3vo for another 3vo and hope its good to go or just going back to my Evo. I'm really missing root a lot and to be honest I'm starting to question if an unlocked bootloader is ever going from come as well as s-off. I know this is the 3d forum so responses will be mostly one way, I'm just looking for honest opinions while I sit in my truck and weigh the options.

I say exchange it for another Evo 3D, and give it another shot. S-Off is right around the corner, and once we have that the development for this phone will blow up. I'm also missing all the different roms that were available for the Evo 4g, but it won't be long until we have that here. Hopefully within a week or two it will all begin, that would be phenomenal. The full potential of this phone will be released once full root is here, and I definitely wouldn't want to miss out on it, personally.

When you say return back to your old EVO, I'm assuming that you didn't sell yours where you got the 3d. If you're still within your 30 days, couldn't you return it for whatever you paid for it (giving back any upgrade you may of used) then just using your 4G until the 3d is rooted then re-jump ship?
If you did sell your 4G and you'd be getting a new EVO 4G, you won't be able to root it at this time,so you'd be in the same boat with a less powerful phone
Edit: and if you're not within your 30 days, but still have your 4G...just reactive your 4G and put the 3d on the shelf until the times of root come
Keep the 3VO!
Worst case, get a used Evo on Ebay for cheap and sell you 3VO for a profit.
Or have a stellar backup...
I'm sticking my my 3VO for now, I sure do miss the extras I had on the OG. The 3VO sure is sweet too though! And it'll be just that sweeter if/when we all get to S-Off and flash again.
I say test the hell out of it before you leave the store.

If you still have your E4G just return the 3D and wait until s-off has been achieved. It has already happened it's just being packed up and ironed out...so I wouldn't worry. After returning my first E3D I actually traded in my E4G and got another E3D. I'm that confidant.
But, if you don't have an E4G don't get a new one...they are currently unrootable....same for refurb models from every outlet I've heard of.
Stick with the E3D. At least we have the perma-temp-root and OC for now. Sure, that's no substitute for CM7 or MIUI or Decks or Fresh...but...it'll do for now.

New EVO's have 2.2 out of the box me and the store clerk checked 2 boxes out. The problem is Sprint is honoring my
*Preferred Member perk and granted me a full upgrade after 1 year but the offer was only extended until July 31st. I'm sure you know that that program has changed and is no longer honored. You need a qualifying plan or 10 years tenure with Sprint now for yearly upgrades!

Thanks for all the friendly input I was expecting backlash or trolling accusations. I did decide to swap my 3vo for another 3vo. No screen problems everything is square as hell. It does still seem quite laggy for being dual core. I don't remember my Evo og being this bad. Oh well keeping fingers crossed permanent root/ s-off comes soon the shipped version of Swype is absolutely killing me LOL.

My apologies then. I have read from many people that most/all EVO 4gs were coming with 2.3. I kept my 4G, which is rooted, just to play and dev with, and to have as a backup incase I screw up my 3d while helping with the s-off cause.
I'd been kind of flip-flopping the decision myself - but I'm one of the buyers that has nothing wrong with the phone at all (except for this LITTLE pinprick of light in between my home and menu capacitive key.) I sold my roommate my rooted Evo 4g and I kind of look at it with sadness lol. But now, I can't see being without my E3D. When we're finally able to unleash this beast, it'll be a wrap!
LOL time to stop living under a rock. HTC announced it will be unlocked by september.
Makes me feel much better!

I agree this does make me feel better but since the 3d now has plenty of working ICS builds i'm starting to think i might not NEED my evo lte. Considering dumping the preorder. I don't see much difference between the two now that i have ICS. Any thoughts? LTE non nonexistent , NFC (at least where i'm at) is also non nonexistent.
I do like the slightly bigger battery, and krait seems power friendly.

I'm buying it, but only because it's the next big thing. I'll probably order it this weekend, and sell my EVO 3D next weekend with all of it's accessories to pay for it.
I like the larger battery. The processor is a huge upgrade. Sense 4.0 with ImageSense will definitely be useful (I have a daughter and I'm always taking pictures when we're out. Although, I just bought a $1000 DSLR, but I don't like dragging it everywhere with me). The fact that this model has an SD card slot, AND 16GB onboard is a big selling point for me as well. 4.7" screen gives me more viewing area (I'd get a note, but I don't think I could EVER get out of having HTC Sense).
Yeah i forgot about the camera that is another big plus. Something else i've always wondered was the B!tch Everyone has for the non removable battery. On my OG Evo i had 6 batteries i carried around with me all the time. I hated that. Why not just buy one of those recharge packs and if you need battery in a pinch use that. So many ppl i've seen are throwing this under the bus because of not being able to remove the battery.

Its permanent. There is also a temp custom clockwork recovery that they are using to flash ROMs. They have a couple guys who have S-off on their phones but its still a WIP to get the bootloader unlocked. Looks really good for EVO LTE owners so far.
I am still on the fence about getting it. Due for my last yearly upgrade on June 1, but with the ICS leaks and the impending official release, I think I will be good for at least a little while longer. This phone getting root would drive my decision a little further to one side or the other.
Another point I forgot to mention is ACTUALLY having a true Beats capable phone. Not kinda works/kinda doesn't.

I see your in London, is that correct? What is the shooter like over there on your network? I would think all this phone really ever needed was a decent 3g network and a dose of ics. I have been switching between myn's 2 roms (gb\ics) and meanrom and i think it still performs very well. If i had to switch i might lean towards samsung based on this article....http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/08/...s-iii-in-the-us-is-giving-samsung-a-backbone/

He's on GSM; you can't blame sprint. HTC is slow to update on all carriers. Lack of updates aren't HTC's only problem though, their other problem is using ridiculously proprietary hardware (so AOSP based roms are basically impossible) and the fact that they lock down their bootloaders and give you a really crappy alternative unlock.
I've moved on to the galaxy nexus, and I'm never going to get another HTC phone again.

Totally disagree. The Evo 3d is not a piece of ****. 3D works fine. HTC is not to blame here. The phone is as good as it was when you bought it. No need to insult it and HTC and the EVO 3d community now. HTC doesn't owe you anything.
There are other phones out there that are faster, bigger screens and so on. You are welcome to move onto anyone one of them. Go for it.
