From Twitter:
P3Droid - "Hang on to that DX2 folks: It will get an update and looks like its going to be 2.3.4 - No ETA though"
If you've been around the android world for a while, you probably know all about P3 and TeamBlackHat. When they tweet something like this, it usually means some pretty exciting stuff is coming down the pipes.
Seeing as how P3 is soon receiving a donated X2, I can't help but wonder if he's already got his hands on a leak that just needs to be tested.
TBH did the same thing with droid charge just recently. Started talking about 2.3.4 for the charge, acquired one, and then a few days later released the leak for the Droid Charge.
Hopefully, this will bode well for us X2 owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is GREAT news - where is the donate link for getting him a X2?
As far as I know, the donated X2 has already been funded and Mistawolfe is just waiting to receive P3's address.
But if you're wanting to help out some more you can look up Mistawolfe on twitter, droidforums, or droidxforums.
We all knew the update has been coming for a while....so what is the news here? nothing...carry on
this is the first statement from p3droid that i have come across
TBH is not joke - they are in the middle of droid X, Charge and now the X2
Well, I received a PM on the Droid X forums from a guy saying he would donate one. I talked to him back and forth, talked to P3Droid - then the guy writes me back and says "I meant donate in the form of people sending me money"
So yeah, not sure what's up there. I know there are polls on other forums where people are saying they'd give XXX amount of money. If somebody wants to set something up (via PayPal or whatnot) - I'll be the first to drop some money in.
This baby needs a ROM bad. Moto builds are garbage...
Sorry for the confusion MistaWolfe I never meant to sell my X2 but wanted to donate $ myself to help P3Droid buy one.. as soon as someone sets up a link I will be donating $

I too will donate $$$ via paypal towards the X2, if i had an extra one i would send it...
It has already been posted in a few of the other Moto Device forums but I figured I would share with my community. Breaking News on CNN.com is that Google plans to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion... Here's to hoping and wishing good things come if this all goes tru!!!!
Hopefully this means good things for us, but we may be a bit early to the party lol.

Words cannot describe how happy this makes me.
Is it such a stretch to think that future phones from motorola, if this goes through, will be open source? That would be awesome!
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
It would be nice to think that they would unlock bootloaders and things of that nature but to be honest this is more of a patent grab. I would not be shocked to see them turn around and sell this to someone else after they get what they wanted from it.
So what do you think this means for us?
Hopefully getting rid of the awful motoblur, adding better long term support for devices, and UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER!!!!
What do you guys think we'll get out of this deal?

I think this deal has been in the works for sometime. Yes, it's the patents, but Google needs a hardware company to call their own; Motorola has good hardware. I am confident that we will get unlocked bootloaders soon; and future stock upgrades of Android straight from Google.
The way Larry Page's blog post reads it is definitely a patent grab, but yes, Google needs a hardware manufacturer. Page states that Moto Mobility will continue to run as a separate company, but having Google as overseer of the goings on at Moto Mobility will definitely provide the dev community with much needed support, as long as the dev community applies the needed pressure...

Edit: I at first made this post to inform people that no one officially said X2 is being axed and then I read iBolski's post on another thread:
iBolski said:
Just received a reply from Motorola to my BBB filling. Now I'm really ticked and I've had it. I'll be responding later today basically telling them that I will no longer purchase Motorola products, ever. That the X2 is my FINAL Motorola device and that when my upgrade comes due later this year, I'll be going to a different manufacturer.
The response stated they are still supporting the X2, but it will not receive ICS, which is different from the phone call I received on my cell phone. Maybe it was Melvin? What I think it was is the person calling me was mistaken OR the person responding to my BBB complaint doesn't know what's going on. I'll definitely tell them about the phone call in my response as well.
But, I'm going to take the response from my BBB filing as the last straw. I'm done fighting this fight. I have better things to do than to waste my breath with a company that has decided to dump support and upgrades to a phone that is not even a year old.
I will keep my avatar that I have speaking out against Motorola and it's products. Now, if they want to give me a Droid RAZR MAXX for free, I'll take that, but I'm done with Motorola, period.

So, the X2 is getting Axed!?
Dragonz, you are our only hope!
_____________________________________________________
The Following is the old post I made. Though it technically is right, as in no one officially communicated to us that the X2 is being axed, in light of iBolski's correspondences, it may be falsified.
_____________________________________________________
To curb the misinformation spreading on this forum, I've decided to make a post clarifying that NO ONE said X2 is not getting ICS, officially or unofficially.
There is a thread here that quotes:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/03/06/verizon-releases-list-of-phones-to-get-ice-cream-sandwich-updates/
and claims that VZW has officially axed the X2. Read the article carefully. It says:
"We will continue to update this list as additional details become available throughout the year. Also, follow @VZWNews on Twitter for additional upgrade announcements.
Secondly, the ONLY moto devices on the list are those that Motorola confirmed getting ICS a while back. Surely, Motorola is not doing "planning and evaluation" for a Bazillion phones just to ditch each and everyone of them. At that rate, they might as well burn a pile of money and phones and see how that goes.
So, to sum up. NOBODY said we aren't getting ICS, excepting for all the misinformation of course.
Hope this helps.

If the X2 does get ICS it's probably going to be way bogged down with blur that it'll barely run, but at the same time, I'd love to get ICS because then the kernel can officially be supported by the kanged CM9 we're getting (hopefully) real soon, but from what I've read the GB kernel'll do fine with cm9 so I'm up in the air about that.
Hi gang!
If you have seen my BBB complaint thread, then you should know by now that I complained to Motorola by filing a complaint with BBB. So, I was waiting for them to reply. And today they did and boy are you in a surprise here!
Sit back, buckle up. We are going on a wild ride!
The email was well written and addressed the two key concerns I raised.
Firstly, they informed me that they have done intensive testing and have concluded that Droid X2 is going to get ICS, eventually. The update page on Motorola's blog should be updated with this info in the next few weeks. They were actually planning to scrap the whole thing, but recently they received a hoard of BBB complaints from X2 users that they thought it is worth giving it a second look. Now, granted they claimed that to help X2 run the ICS update, they had to trim some stuff and features not only from ICS but from their own "value pack" Blur. I am all in for that! They said that a few Blur features that previously existed and are on other phones will be removed. Still they said there is no need to worry as the whole Blur experience isn't compromised,
As far as ICS is concerned, they are planning to cut down some of its features, notably voice dictation. Also, it seems that ICS is using the device's resources better anyways as the email claimed that they found significant performance improvements.
Furthermore, with regard to Bootloader, the email claimed that they are looking into it but can't give a whole lot of promises. Apparently they are in negotiations with VZW and are pushing hard, given that many customers are complaining and are taking similar steps and stands as the competition, such as HTC, to help make VZW buckle. It is interesting to note that the email acknowledges that HTC has been successful at unlocking the Bootloaders and Moto is trying to take a similar approach as "their competitors" to persuade VZW. The email stated that if the negotiations are successful, which should be known in a month, then they will release the unlock tool in a few weeks. The email also claims that the unlock tool is currently in development and testing, which hints that Motorola is optimistic on VZW buckling on pressure, else why will they waste their money on developing a tool that they will never release?
Finally, they acknowledged that a good number of customers do regularly complain on their Facebook, twitter pages or otherwise file complaints to them regarding bootloaders and that they are completely aware of the situation. They wish to go public after the negotiations with VZW and if VZW agrees, spread the good news to everyone while apologizing the huge delay of doing something they said they were gonna do a long time back. If VZW doesn't agree, they wish to make public the details of the negotiations so that customers understand that Motorola is as helpless as them.
Note that I paraphrased and elaborated a lot of what Motorola said in the email to clarify for you guys. The email they sent was terse, not as elaborate as this, yet clearly conveyed all of this info.
So, there we have it folks. At least ICS is on the way and we now know that Motorola is negotiating with VZW and developing the unlock tools. The fact that they are developing the tools suggest that they are optimistic of the outcome of the negotiations! But you never know, and if it doesn't work out, may be Melvin can leak the tools!!!
So, that is a LOT to digest! Have fun with this news and go crazy! I think all those guys who submitted a BBB complaint deserve kudos to pushing Moto to do the right thing. And big kudos to iBolski for starting it and fueling the momentum and being the inspiration for others!!!

On the flip side, I just did this because the last few days have been reallllly slow and I wanted to do something fun. And I was actually surprised no one did this so far, given that we have experienced Melvin and all, I figured people will learn to prank more, especially on April 1.
Anyway, I am on your side. I filed a big complaint to Motorola that you can read here and I am waiting for Moto to reply.
So I am fighting the good fight! In the meantime, lets have some fun!

You posted the? We answered

i guess my mistake was being too general

End of July, huh? Based on what? So now you're predicting Q3? Motorola was updating ICS like crazy for awhile, but seemed to have stopped after .206....I predict it to be the final build and it will be released before end of June, probably sooner.
Honestly if you did a basic search you would've seen Motorola's official release for ICS for our Razrs among other Motorola devices for Q2. There are tons of threads pertaining to ICS release dates as well as rumors of its impending release.

Just guessing. I am on ics 206 and it has a few little bugs. If they don't catch it then they may release it but I feel it needs more work. I hope they do drop it in June but I dunno. Verizon is your problem...not moto. The builds are already done. They should clean up another one before an ota drops.
Look at the nexus. Needs plenty of bug fixes being on 402 and 404 has been built since??? February and still no ota. I don't know what more confusing, the fact that the manufacturers are making the update or that the carriers are deciding when lol.
Manufacturers should be manufacturing and supporting their devices and carriers should be just that...carriers. nothing more.

The main reason I dumped the Nexus was for the lack of CDMA support. You are exactly right about the 4.0.4 update, but it still didn't fix the radio (reception) issues. I ran the 4.0.4 leak until the day I ditched it, but the reception was very poor and that is a common complaint with the Nexus. My RAZR has near perfect reception. Hopefully ICS doesn't hurt it.
I bought my wife a nexus and its a solid device but some things are just not right. Not even compared to the 206 leak lol. I will say that the radios w the leak are pretty good. I seem to get faster 3g and better 4g but have a few random issues. Nothing major but it could be attributed to the new radios. I will say that battery life is a noticeable improvement on my maxx w ics vs gbread. Hard to believe it could get better but even leaving it unrooted and just disabling 30+ apps thru ics is great!

Well, perhaps it's just semantics, but technically, by saying "Droid RAZR," that means the Verizon version and only the Verizon version. Verizon licensed the Droid name, and they're the only carrier in the world that legally has the rights to add it to the name of their phones. Everywhere else in the world, for every other carrier, this phone is called the Motorola RAZR. So by saying "Droid RAZR," the OP is actually referring only to the Verizon version, which makes the thread even more amusing since that's not the device that he/she is actually wanting to talk about. It wasn't too general, it was specific in the wrong way.
That said, I agree that a simple look through the threads on the first page of the forum would have provided the answer the OP was looking for. But, there's no way to make everyone fall in line with forum etiquette.
Well I guess we should talk to XDA and have them make a separate section for a "Motorola RAZR" so we don't confuse those with a Motorola RAZR or a "Motorola Droid RAZR" Lets make sure we are all technical about it jk
More sales?!?
The most surprising thing about Moto/Verizon and the delays in releasing ICS to all of their phones (including my Maxx!!) is that they are hampering additional sales of new devices to new users...yes, SALES...it makes the world go 'round. I'm a CEO of a group of manufacturing companies and, very simply, you do whatever it takes to continue making SALES. The Maxx is already so good, why wouldn't you hustle ICS out to these phones...you would see NEW customers lining up around Verizon stores to purchase these devices, and all exclaiming "iPhone who?" (incidentally, I gave up my 4S about a month ago to come back to the customization capabilities of Android to make my phone a better productivity tool than my iPhone 4S was...couldn't be happier, btw).
So wake up Moto/Verizon...generate more device SALES and satisfy your shareholders, if for no other reason....and crank out some ICS for everyone!!!
Doug
