Google wallet issue possible fix.

Okay for the last two days I haven't been able to connect to google wallet or add a google card. I rooted my phone and I see the unsupported devices showing. Tried to add and failed stuck on initializing . I called google wallet they told me there is an issue on there end and it will be fixed wait a couple of days. So today there was an update. I did the update tried again. Didn't work. So I cleared the data and reset the setting in google wallet. Same issue. Then I thought maybe if I unroot and try it maybe it will work. Well in the #SU app u can hide the root so the phone thinks its unrooted. Under enable root . Uncheck it to disable it. Reset and cleared data google wallet. Tried it and it works. Well I'm probably late about this. But I figured I let I guys know maybe it will help someone. Thanks for reading. If it did then hit that thanks. Peace.

mine too worked even without messing with SU. Ran the update and it finally initialized.

Thanks! This is exactly what I needed.
PS thanks for also describing how to do the temporary unroot by disabling SuperSU in the settings. I was looking everywhere in the app for something that said temp unroot, didn't realize it was as simple as unticking the Enable Superuser box.
Still didnt work for me. It stays stuck on Activation..

I tried all the steps ,but I don't know if it worked. I unrooted, reset. When I select wallet it tells me my password has changed so I have to re-enter password. Then I get an error adding pre-paid google card.( but it no longer says "un-supported device). I called the money network and they said they were having a problem with EVO let's and that they were working on it. I think I'm going to exchange this one anyway.

they have the evo activation service shut down to try and fix the problems we are having.. so no matter what until they turn them back on you cant activate your account.
The way I did this is if your rooted disable Su. In the Su app. Then go into google wallet reset app in settings. Exit. Then go to applications in settings then go to all on right. Find wallet. Then clear data. Back over to wallet activate again. Setup password. Try to activate prepaid card again. Make sure you take the update in the play store if you didn't before doing any of this. Let me know.

I doubt that this is a possible fix. I unrooted and am still stuck initializing. After installing the Wallet update last night I'm still stuck. I called g wallet customer service again and they said that the update will fix it for some, but they are not finished with all of the maintenence on their servers. Until then (they will email me), G wallet will still be broken for some. I think that this possible fix is just a coincidence.
Thanks for the heads up though.

Query: does this problem only affect those who rooted before using Google Wallet on the stock ROM?
I want to root but I am afraid of losing this functionality. My Wallet works on my stock ROM un-rooted, obviously.
It has nothing to do with being rooted or not... They have turned off the service for new phones to fix the problems.. so if youarent already active.. your probablyout.of luck.

FIX for google wallet activating (updated op)

This is a fix for google wallet to let you login and has been confirmed it will let you buy things after doing it. I am making a new thread so it doesnt get buried in the Google wallet stuck at initializing your device thread. Be sure to thank jkt97401 for finding it and DZLRULZ for doing it and confirming he could buy things again in the thread posted below. I also did it to confirm it works to allow login again.
THIS WILL NOT FIX SECURE ELEMENT BRICKS!
EDIT: this fix has been blocked from my understanding in order to continue to use wallet you have to leave the change and not revert back to the original build prop however you are welcome to try out reverting it.

jkt97401 said:
I found a workarround, this worked for me and hope it helps others!
Go into build.prop and change these values:
ro.product.model=
ro.product.device=
to both equal this: GT-I9300
This makes your phone look like the Sprint galaxy nexus.
Reboot your phone and try to open wallet!
You may have to clear google wallet settings, I had to uninstall wallet and reinstall it after the build.prop change.
Hit the thanks button if this helped!
-------------- PS --------------
The reason I tried this is because I heard Google temporarily blocked the HTC EVO 4G LTE from accessing Google Wallet. I don't know the exact reason why, but this seems to work at least for now.

DUDES! It totally worked. I will be trying a transaction in a few minutes and reporting back. I was sick over this, worried about secure element. I got stuck at 99% resetting the app and eventually had to reboot.
I did what you suggested and it activated, and my $100.21 was still in the prepaid card no problem. Here's EXACTLY what I did to keep out of the unsupported device also:
EDIT: REQUIRES ROOT ACCESS (but not HTC UNLOCK, which I do not have)
-Enable SuperSU
-Use ES File Explorer for root explorer (Settings->Root Explorer, give Superuser permission when asked) -> Mount File System (writable)
-Edit build.prop in /system folder as described above (make a backup also so you can revert after activation!)
-Disable root explorer in ES File Explorer
-Disable SuperSU in SuperSU settings
-Clear data for Wallet in Settings->Apps
-Reboot
-Open Wallet, log in
-Add prepaid card
-Close Wallet
-Go to Android Settings->Apps->Downloaded->Wallet and force stop (hoping to keep it from knowing about the next step which is enable SuperSU to revert build.prop and keep away unsupported device message.)
-Enable SuperSU
-ES File Explorer -> Root Explorer -> Mount System
-In /system folder replace build.prop with the backup I made (or just undo the changes manually if you like.)
-Disable Root Explorer
-Disable SuperSU
-Reboot
-Open Wallet and verify operation
-Profit!
Sorry if this is jumbled, have to get to work but excited that it is fixed and hopefully by reverting build.prop no strange behavior will result!
Thanks again jkt97401!

Not really unsupported will be there ifyou grant access or not, it will still work tho that's a diferent thing, any developers thing this will mess up and try to changed device to evo? Like for example if Google wallet will recognize the build.prop was changed? I mean there is a reason why they blocked the evo

Also I was some what scared to do this too but I'm not going to wait forever for them to fix this problem. Since it could take as long of a wait as we may need a OTA. As long as you do what's posted it will work if you do something diff well ymmv... The secure element may be somewhat fickle however I feel ours is not as fickle as the other devices. As I have seen people say they didn't clear it ran ruu and rooted and it still worked...

Negative. After bricking my last evo 4g lte's nfc, i'm being very cautious with anything pertaining to this.
I did call google wallet shortly after posting and they confirmed that it's still not fixed for the evo lte. While this work around may work, it's troubling that google doesn't officially whitelist the device again. There has to be a reason for this. I prefer to wait until it's cleared through official channels.

Nobody has reported any reproducible errors other than bricking your NFC by not resetting Google Wallet before doing a factory reset or ROM flash . . . but this is a danger even for non-rooters who do a hard reset (somebody was even told to do this to fix his phone by a Sprint rep, you can imagine how that went down).
So in orther words there is no downside

FIXED Google Wallet Bricked

Hey guys i just wanted to let everyone (or anyone that looks here that didnt know already) know that if you get the new OTA or do what i did and get a rom with it (I just flashed Flex's stock with gooodies rom with the new OTA) it fixes Google Wallet if you had bricked it like i did.
So if you forgot to clear google wallet settings before flashing a rom and you bricked flashing a rom with the new ota it restores wallet and it works fine.
I did have to do a reboot for the prepaid card to work and put my 10$ in but its all good again
And if im posting this and its old news then my bad, i did a search and i couldnt find anything on this, and if this is old news then can a mod please delete?
Thanks :good:
Thanks for sharing. So you you had secure element failed and don't anymore after updating to a ROM with 1.22 base? Did you update the hboot, too, or just ROM (I personally never update hboots) ?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
No way i was already rooted running Flex's ROM so no way i would have updated my hboot i just flashed a rom with the OTA on it
and yeah before hand i had the secure element bricked and after the new ota google wallet works which is fantastic
So maybe we won't have to clear it every time we flash now? That's the one thing that has kept me from really using Wallet . I'm afraid I'm going to forget and brick the NFC. I set it up and just reset it the next day.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
that im not sure on ...im looking at this as more of a second chance for me rather than a complete work around...i just have to start remembering to clear settings
I had bricked mine before with the secure element not responding. I went back to stock and updated through OTA. And my wallet is still saing secure element not responding. Any ideas to this? Thanks
I accepted the OTA, and because I was S-OFF I flashed TWRP and then SU via TWRP. I then setup Google Wallet. In my haste to flash the new MEANRom, I forgot to clear Google Wallet settings, but luckily it still works. It seems to me that the OTA might have solved the secure element problem... Don't take my word on that!

I hope this thread gets filled with good news (OP it was the "Secure element not responding" error right? Not the other Wallet errors?) and I hope I am wrong, but like stated in my thread, from all the research I have done there is no fix once it gets corrupted. It has to do with securing financial information and I doubt Google would give out the info as to how to fix it to anyone other than themselves (and even they don't help with this issue).
Anyway this is definitely a thread to keep an eye on and if it gets confirmed I will edit my post with a link to this

Yeah, it's not a guarantee that it will brick every time you don't clear data. The only thing we know for sure is that clearing it evades the problem if it would have happened. As hard as I searched for what causes it, I came up empty. No one seems to know what causes it (it has to be something present in non-HTC devices as well, so probably Android related) that triggers it. Your best bet is to just wipe data every time.

Isis wallet on rooted device

Anybody know a way to get the Isis wallet to work on my rooted DNA, I've tried to temp unroot and root cloaking but it still detects the device as rooted. Only reason I care is Verizon just gave me $40 on it for signing up and I just want to use that and then delete but it don't play well with rooted phones.
