I have two EVO LTE phones and when I bump the backs together they play an audible tone and vibrate so I know they are connecting with NFC but I can not for the life of me figure out how to transfer a file from one phone to the other. Does anyone have experience with this and can explain how to do it? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Can't transfer files only smaller things like vCards, browser links, youtube links. HTC hasn't added the ability to add other things yet. Samsung built on Beam using wifi direct so i would be surprised to see HTC come up with a similar solution or a app to assist the

Thank you but I still can't even manage to transfer a v-card. Doesn't bring up a menu or anything when the phones are within range. I'm not sure this will be useful at all then accept for google wallet type of functions.

Make sure both phones have the NFC turned on then pull up the contact or the web page(looks like ICS internet and chrome only work - dolphin wouldnt) then touch the backs of the phones together. It will push the item to the back of the screen and then touch the screen and it will beam it to the other phone. You can do the same with some apps as well and it will push app to the playstore. Cant wait till you can beam photos and files.

There is an app on the market called 'File Expert" that allows you to do it but I think when doing larger files bluetooth is faster. but hey if you wanna play. here is a toy.
I really can't wait to beam photos

Not quite. Sync SMS uploads incoming texts from your phone to DropBox and then your tablet downloads them and displays them. When sending messages the tablet uploads them to DropBox and your phone downloads them to send out.
With TexTab, there is no uploading over the internet to a remote location as everything is shared between the devices via bluetooth. This is much faster and uses far letter battery than Sync SMS.
I have tried out both applications and I would most definitely vouch for TexTab, especially because of the support/communication the developer provides and the features he is working on.
Hmm OK. But textab connects through blue tooth surely that will use more battery than sending and receiving a file from dropbox? Also is it quite delayed doing it like that? I'm currently trying textab light. Its a pain having to stay near the phone due to Bluetooth distance

Constant data transfer uses more battery than bluetooth I think. Most people have their phones on them anyway, so it works quite well. The developer is almost ready to start beta testing an update which adds wifi functionality so that may be more appropriate for your needs.

you would be mistaken. bluetooth is always on and using the battery. downloading 160 bytes from the internet is very quick.
@piam
You will have to make your own decision based on your own requirements.
SyncSMS suits me better because I can leave my phone anyplace I want to and still be able to text from my tab.
@dolphinking:
feature request: how about syncing missed call notifications from phone to the tablet?
tablet talk is a great app, works via wifi or bluetooth
I am an avid user of SyncSMS and HIGHLY Recommend. It is one of the few paid apps I do have and it works excellent. Exciting new features coming. This app is worth the money and will only get better with time.
SyncSMS allows sync no matter how close or far apart the 2 devices are, TexTab does not work unless within bluetooth range. Personally, if I am bluetooth close enough to my phone, I will just use it to text.
I use my tab, with SyncSMS when away from phone, or while phone on charge in another location.
+1 SYNCSMS!

Like the NFC aspect (outside of G-Wallet use), I wanted to bring another feature that is likely to be glossed over.
Some of you coming from an Epic Touch, might be familiar with this or people who've used Ad-Hoc.
Edit: (An app to take advantage of this ability (in beta) but it works well.

The same, it's just re-labled. They may have some pre-programmed tasks for it's use. It's present in the Samsung GS2.
Edit:
S-Beam is limited in function as it will only use it's main functions with other SGS3 handsets.

Seems like we need an app to make this work. Ive connected to other devices but I cant send anything due to no app to control the function
Glad I'm not the only one, lol.I can set up a group and connect but can't seem to find anyway to transfer data via WiFi Direct.

This Sucks
This really Sucks to have such a great feature bit no way to use it.... ive spent alot of time trying to figure it out but i couldnt..... i really hope someone figures this out....
My friend and I were messing with this over the weekend, he has an SIII I have the EVO. Turning it on and pairing the devices up works great, but when he would try to send a picture (WiFi Direct gets added to the standard Share menu on the SIII) it would just hang on his end until it timed out. I tried sending a file, but get no WiFi Direct option in the share menu of the EVO.
He also had a place to control some settings, one of them was "File Sharing" and he had to turn that on before we were able to attempt to send files.
Sucks that this doesn't work - it could be really cool especially if my wife and I want to pass photos around to each other that we have taken of the kids.
Makes no sense to add this ability with no way to use it..
I agree. I can pair with my brothers 4G LTE but cant transfer anything between the phones...

let's say there phone named A and B.
A will send file to B, so A must open the file first.
While the file opened, bring A close to B (back to back) and when there's a vibration, touch the screen on A, then the file will automatically send to B.
Sorry my bad english

I tried this as well with my mates HTC One X and found that contacts would beam but nothing else would. I found by switching from Sbeam to Android beam it started sending images and music files.

NFC and Wi-Fi direct are different protocols, NFC has much smaller range for starters.
Lol anyone want to tell me how to transfer files using Nfc ?

make sure both devices have NFC > switch on NFC on both devices > go to gallery > pick and image > touch the back of both devices together > you will hear an audible noise and the screen will pan out > click the image and it "beam" over
thats only for images but the same steps apply.

True, however Samsung's prorietary S-Beam allows devices to automatically enable peer and send the file over Wifi-Direct if it makes sense due to the file's size.
It won't, as already stated, work with non Samsing-devices or with devices without S-Beam, you'll have to use the Stock Android NFC for that.
So with every HTC phone I've had in the past 3 years, its always had the option when long pressing on an image in the browser, to allow you to share it directly with other applications. I would use this feature everyday when sending out MMS messages.
Since updating my HTC Rezound to ICS, that feature is now gone. It would seem that ICS doesn't have this option anymore. I've had no luck in finding an alternative way to accomplish this.. Has anybody had any success in finding a workaround or a way of getting this feature back?
Thanks.

Been looking for the same thing since I've got ICS. My most requested feature. Figure anything out yet?
The chrome browser when long pressed gives the option to share. When selected it gives a list of option to share to i.e. email, text, social media. Is this what you are referring to?

I can't comment on whether or not chrome does this pre-ICS but post it does not. We are specifically looking for the option of long-pressing on an image and being able to share it through sms (not just the web address) or email, etc.
i guessim confused. i still have the option to longpress and save a picture then send it via eamil, text, etc.. from my gallery.

That's so backwards.. /sigh
I just tried this in Maxthon browser and it gave me the option to share....
I installed maxthon browser and while it does have the ability to share the image, it doesn't share the actual picture, just the url or of the image itself. This isn't the same as the other HTC phones where it would literally paste the picture to whatever application you specified.

Which means that it saves the image then opens the message app and attaches the pic to the message automagicly. You just have to so it manually now I guess.... that's kinda lame.

It does suck to have to save it to the gallery to share it. I came from an iPhone 4 and it was a nice feature to long press on an image in the browser, copy it, then paste it in email, messages or whatever. A 2 step process now takes 8 steps but it could be worse I guess. I wish there was a fix for this but I don't think we are going to get it.
So I've came across the official HTC flashlight app and figured others would want it also.
Just click on the link below and download. MAKE SURE TO HAVE UNKNOWN SOURCES CHECKED TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD!
Once downloaded just download a file manager from the playstore go to downloads and find it and install.
Works perfectly and has all three brightness settings. Just tap the button on the flashlight and bam your good to go and don't have to be afraid of the dark anymore!
This app is not guaranteed to keep boogie men, monsters, stalkers, serial killers, and other things that go bump in the night away, its simply a flashlight and most it can do is blind those and enable a chance to run away and piss your pants.
Enjoy!!!

For what it's worth, TeslaLED is a free Market alternative that has a Sense-widget, much like the HTC Flashlight of yesteryear. I've found it to be the closest copy (in a good way) to the HTC Flashlight widget I used to love.
