[Q] ETA on Fastboot file for Razr using ICS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm needing to get a replacement Razr Maxx. However I just applied the leaked .211 ICS "OTA" update file. I know I can't use the Razr Utility to restore to GB. Does anyone know when the Fastboot file will be released for ICS for the RAZR? I don't know how to revert my phone to total stock until it's released.

Anyone? Got RAZR issues and need to revert to stock but it has to be 6.16.211 ICS.

Fastboot file has been out for a while now, check out at droidrzr.com:

You'll have to put the link together yourself as I'm a new member here and can't post links yet lol
***EDIT**
If you're already on .211, then you're okay. the .211 update file is the fastboot file.

Would this work if I'm on the Razr with OTA ICS update applied? I'm looking for a way back to GB, if it's even possible.
I recently got a Razr, so I'm not sure how fastboot files were. I came from a Droid X, and have lots of experience with CWM and flashing roms that way.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No, it is not possible to flash back to GB once on the ICS OTA. I'm not exactly sure why you would want too... ICS is a better and more stable form of Android.

Rom for the droid razr

I dont get why we cant have custom roms for the droid razr because, the bionic, the droid 3, droid x, and droid 2 have custom rom even though the bootloader is still locked
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
Okay its because there isnt a SBF yet for the device. Once that is leaked and ready to go there wont be much roms. Also the devs need a razr to play with and most devs dont have it yet. In time you will have roms.
What do u mean by sbf?

SBF = System Binary File.
It is a binary image of the stock (unmodified) Droid Razr OS, that can be pushed to the phone through a program like RSDLite. The purpose of this SBF is to be able to restore a phone to factory condition, if something goes wrong.
So, devs need:
* The SBF file, as a baseline and recovery tool
* An unlocked bootloader, so that they can load ROMs onto the phone
* The source code for an Android OS, so they can modify it and actually create the ROM.
So far, I think they only have #3. Items #1 and #2 will come over time.
Misleading title. I thought OP already DEVELOP droid razr rom

An unlocked bootloader is nice, but not absolutely necessary, there are plenty of phones with locked bootloaders and custom roms.

Agreed. you dont need a unlocked bootloader. Only if you want custom kernels.
hi thanks for your information
We're in a bit of a tough spot right now. We want to mod and play but without a SBF to save us were not going all out and just doing little things. However doing those little things may stop the OTA update if it's recognized that we are messing with our system files. Then we would need an SBF to go back to stock to get the OTA which we may or may not have. So then we will have to rely on a ROM that will work on our version of RAZR. At least with one official SBF for our own RAZR version we can always start at the beginning. I'm trying to keep my mods to a minimum so the OTA doesn't get broke but may be beyond that already, who knows.
Nitro said he had a ROM booting and that he'd post it on DroidRZR today, so.

which ics build is the best?

really wanting to make the change, was on first leak two weeks. Is there a build that you can razr utility back? is there a build that flashes over. 181 WITHOUT wiping data and cache? is there a build that includes all video codecs missing from first leak? is there a build that does all 3 things above? Four day weekend for me and I'm considering putting ics back on my razr.
droid razr stock un- rooted .181 waiting for official ics...
I have been running the .206 leak for a while now and it runs perfect.

The latest builds cannot easily be backed up to .181, and we have no idea what their impact on the ability to accept OTA updates will be even after backing up to .181.
I would suggest on of the leaks that you can at least rsd back to stock if you run into problems. this goes to if you decide to use one that does not go back to stock http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...m-icsbut-not-back-to-gb-6148485-616203204206/
and this one can be fastbooted back to stock. http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...s-61479-its-fastbootable-back-to-gingerbread/
your choice.

You can still use the option 3 for Ice Cream Sandwich root. Thats what he told me to use and it worked perfect.

option 2 was root (not for ics), option 3 was unroot. I tried option 2 but it didn't work. any other ways to root this build, 6.14.79?
nm, looks like I missed a step before upgrading. no root.

ICS is live now for Razr/Maxx!

Head over to settings, about phone, system updates to grab now!
yep, just downloaded it. then thought that maybe I should revert to a non safestrap system and uninstall Safestrap. Now for some reason I am having to re-download it... Oh well, Im about to have an official ICS update!
Now I gotta worry about rerooting, and I was thinking about running a rom like eclipse. Big day lol
I'm fastbooting back to stock in hopes I'll get a nice smooth update, does anyone know of any root methods that work on the official ICS build?
I assume u are all in the US.im in SOUTH AFRICA. GSM handset, just got the 2.3.6 update, but not going to install it. Want to skip straight to ICS. Any links for GSM ICS leaks?

there was an option for it in Matt's Utility... haven't tried it yet to excited that I finally got the ICS
Is this official ota different from the .211 leak? If it is, is there going to be a way for us that are running .211 to manually update to the ota? Since they had to fix some bugs I figured there was a new build date and all.

Download OTA Rootkeeper from the play store, it restored my root when i upgraded on razr maxx
Downloaded and went smooth as silk. Phone was rooted and I installed rootkeeper. Was in root state when I received the update. All suggested battery saver apps were disabled. Phone still downloaded the update. Downloaded with WIFI. The update removed root but rootkeeper rerooted the phone. The only think I had to do was change the data back to 4G. Everything seems great so far.
i have updated
yes you are right ics update now availble iam from Egypt and now i enjoy ics
its really smooth but the cam is not as clear as gingbread and not fast shot
if someone can helpe mer to give me kernel

New MAXX

I just got an un-rooted VZ ICS OTA'ed RAZR MAXX. My questions are:
1. Is it pretty easy to root?
2. If I root and install a custom ROM, and after 7 days want to return the phone to VZ, How will I go back to sock? As far a I know no ICS FZX has been leaked for RAZR MAXX yet... right?
All help will be greatly appreciated guys...

Best to just wait till your sure your gonna keep it.
But, if you want to try it out what you want is Matt's DroidRazrUtility 1.7, it has what you need to root and SAFESTRAP, which from my understanding allows you to keep your stock system on the "unsafe" side and load a second ROM on the "safe" side, I've not used it myself and there seams to be few guides for TOTAL newbs to safestrap.

A Strange Confusion... Need to Debate

Guys,
I want you to debate on my strange confusion...
I'm currently on Stock 2.3.4 198_7 and using Mof's v2.
My question is we don't have any SBF of 2.3.5 if we messed up our phone... So we have to use 2.3.4 as base to do anything.. :silly:
If we want to use 2.3.5, there is only OTA!!!!! And OTA only works with 198_6
So in case in future if Moto releases ICS & JB (I know I'm too optimistic) do we need a base of 2.3.5 or we will be able to update it from 198_6/7 base?
I thinks we should prepare ourselves for all the situations.
1. We must have 198_6 Stock for future use
2. We must have 2.3.5 OTA for future use
or
Will Moto release SBF? But again they might need base as 2.3.5!!! Who knows?
What you people say..

i think the developers here will build Roms on the official ICS release and we can install them with unlocked boot loader. So it im guessing its better if we stuck with the unlocked boot loader versions for now
I think ICS update won't be the same OTA update with patches, we had until now. There could be whole flashable partitions. I wonder what happened to webtop partition in RAZR after ICS update, for example.

You might be right but What if we stuck unlocked.. means no 4G.. Then?

Lets pray, but If its a flashable SBF then again it won't be unlockable like 2.3.5... :silly: Means no customization...
So Either we will be on 2.3.4 or Stucked with ICS..

After a ton of digging, screaming at Moto and chatting with OMAP Moto owners, it looks like the /osh (Webtop) partition is simply abandoned. In other words, you don't get the storage space back and the phone treats it as if it never existed.
(You can imagine how diehard Webtop users have responded to this and the dock+webtop3.0 issues)
Don't lose hope though. It may not be a perfect solution but there's is word of something in the works.
Glad, you're back, Loki. Thanks for answering. I take anything Motorola comes with in ICS, because when it comes, I will be buying new Moto phone probably. This one is starting to be slow for me.
