There is a reason it's not out yet, it's not even close to being released yet. There are problems that are being worked on in the ROM update. I can tell you that you probably won't see an update officialy released until maybe the end of march. How do I know this you ask? I am an engineer with sprint. I myself have the Mogul and am frustrated with the lack of GPS etc.
There's no lack of GPS anymore But there is a lack of being able to send pictures!
update
If your an engineer with Sprint...tell us what the holdup is.
I'd love to know what can be so baffleing to the entire company that months and months of work can't figure out.

If you're an actual engineer with Sprint, maybe you could tell us what we will be expecting from this new ROM, besides Rev A and GPS. Are the rumors running around here true about:
Windows 6.1
Sprint TV
etc.
Please enlighten us.......... It's driving us INSANE!
So, come on...level with us Chubz.
You're running DCD 2.x.x too, aren't you?!?!?

I'm thinking about moving to DCD's WM6.1 ROM because I'm so tired of waiting for the official release. The only thing stopping me is the SD card not working yet for it.
gimme a break this dude comes in here and spews out some garble about how hes an engineer COUGH COUGH he dont even know about the gps that WE all have already. Dude go somewhere else and play, none of us in here fell off the potato truck last knight. in fact I think i hear your mom calling you.

If the mem card problem is stopping you then use no2chems, he had some issues with the mem card in an earlier build but the new one works just fine

you have the gps update from a "leaked" or cooked ROM
Anyway the reason for the holdup is that they need it to run stable. Obvioudly it will run the new apps fine, but then the speaker might not work etc...
the official rom will obviously have:
GPS
Sprint TV
6.1
and supposedly a better task manager. Also help out the memory leak problem.
REV A
The sprint touch may get the GPS and REV A update first
It's nice to see Sprint being so concerned and cautious with their update. But then again, you work for Sprint, so shouldn't your statement be, "...we need it to run stable..." ?
Anyway, in the immortal words of Wayne, "Yeah... right... and monkeys might fly out my butt!"

i think DCDs 2.2.6 fixed the SD card issue, although my understanding it was only a problem if you used encryption (my SD card worked on all dcd roms)

Honestly, we know how this will go.. you claim it'll have SprintTv, then when it doesn't come out with Sprint TV, then one of 2 things will happen...
1) You don't reply to questions directed toward you because you're full of bologna
2) You do reply, and give us some bologna about how Sprint decided to not include it for some oddball reason.
If Sprint TV really does get put on a ROM in the future, then i'll give you respect, but until it happens, you can't just come into a community spouting off fiction hoping that people will think you're cool.. Honestly. Like i said, if you are who you say you are, then you'll get respect when what you say happens!

I can also confirm that I had no problems with DCD's ROM...
Back on topic, since all the good quotes have been taken, I'll believe this when I see it. I mean, it would be nice, but the day the OEM's give us a good ROM (that can't be made better by the likes of DCD, No2Chem, etc) is the day I stop using all devices and move to a cabin in the mountains without power...
The Touch may get updated first? I'm beginning to wonder if the next official Mogul update comes pre-installed in a Mogul 2.
First post here (from my Mogul) but long time lurker. Just running 2.17 but I'm tempted to install a dcd. My main concern is the radio stability as I like to stream alot of audio.
chubzilla, you had to know when you posted who you were, you would take alot of shots from people on this site. There are alot of angry people here that have been waiting for sprint and HTC to get off there butts and fix the problems with the mogul.
I guess what I would like to see is an official response from sprint about the status of the ROM Update other than "Additionally, HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008."
Outdated information like this just inflames customers.

HI guys, I'm an engineer in TF2. Someone is zappin my sentury.
[flameproof suit]
Hey guys, been away a couple weeks due to my mother having some health issues. Oh what a difference a couple weeks makes around here. So I see there's a second 2.1 leak out now. I scanned MOST of the thread titles (at least the first 6 pages) and opened a few of the threads looking for info on the new one. From what I found, it looks like the main difference is fixing of the issue with google requiring login over and over. Is there more to it than that? I installed the first leak on my wife's Eris and it's been working well, but I've been (not so) patiently waiting for the "official" OTA for my own Eris. Starting to feel like it's never going to happen and wondering if I should just go ahead and leak on mine!
And while (if?) I've got your attention, my wife has had one complaint about her phone since I installed the 2.1 that I've not seen mentioned elswhere. Now mind you, gadgets are NOT my wife's forte`, and I'm definitely not ruling out operator error. However, she 'says' that her phone keeps somehow ending up on "silent mode" and she has no idea how. Again, knowing my wife, it could easily be her doing, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with first leak 2.1?? [/flameproof suit]
TIA,
i have installed the 1st Leak on my Girlfriends phone, and no she doesn't have this problem, shes actually very happy with it and says its very fast and the battery now last her long unlike before!

From scanning one of the threads over at Android forums, it seems like the only major difference with the new leak is, as you said, that the google login bug is now fixed. Some people did report one more bar of reception in certain areas where it had previously been lower; however, I don't believe that anybody reported the "time without a signal" bug being fixed, so it could be that the software was re-calibrated to report more bars even though the actual signal strength was the same. If you've already updated to the first leaked 2.1, I personally wouldn't bother flashing the new leak...too much work to back-up and restore apps, contacts, etc. for little improvement.
As for your wife, it's quite probable that she's accidentally hitting the volume down button on the side of the device (maybe from pressure in her purse or pocket) until it goes into silent mode. Nobody's reported that as a bug that I know of, and I haven't experienced it personally (on first leaked 2.1), so I think you're correct in assuming it's user error.
Hope that helps.
Hey Dave, new to the forums here, but I'll throw in my 2 cents.
On my last Eris, I installed the very first 2.1 leak (which I'm assuming is the one your wife has) and I found that the bug on mine was that the volume was set to the max for ringtones, notifications, alarm, etc.. But when I would receive a notification it wouldnt play. I'm guessing maybe that's what she is experiencing. I understand you said it was actually going into silent mode, but the problem she is telling you could be this.
I've also noticed a couple of other differences but I just Installed it yesterday. The download more Htc widgets now works(no big deal there) I am pretty sure I have noticed a change or 2 in settings also. I'll post again if I notice anything else.

Yeah, my wife is so bad with gadgets I don't even like to let her set the alarm clock. Thanks for the reply though. I did mention to her that she should make sure she's not accidentally hitting the volume down button.

It's not notification sounds that are the problem, it's the ringer. I call her, but she says she never heard it ring. Eventually she sees the "orb" glowing and checks notifications to see she missed a call, then checks to once again find it in "silent mode". Really annoying for me. I pay good money for her to have a cell phone and I can never reach her when I need to. Then again, it was that way before she got her Eris. Again...gadgets..............................
And BTW, I think notification sounds are controlled by "media volume", not "ringer volume", but I could be mistaken.
On the new 2.1 leak here.
1. Google Voice app still not routing calls through the GV #. I have to use the older app version (0.2) which doesn't have voicemail integration native or synchronized inbox.
2. HTC get more widgets does not work. I get an error message saying, "Unable to download widgets. Tap to try again."
3. I have noticed improved battery life. On the previous leak, if I forgot to charge it around 9pm it would quickly die. But I was able to leave it unplugged all night and still have a little juice in the morning.

HTC 2.1 Release Candidate (AKA OTA) Leak Rom
1) I agree latest GV not working , using 0.2.0 seems fine
2) I am able to get more widgets to work : shows six (6) more widgets Battery, daily chalange etc
3) Still testing , not sure if battery has improved for me.
4) still no pictures in Gmail ( shows ? )
Happened to me
There's a setting under Sound & Display that says "Quiet ring on pickup"...check to see if that is active. It happened to me where I was keeping my phone in my purse, and anytime someone would call me, because i would be carrying my purse, the motion would silence the ring, and I wouldn't know that anyone called. That's certainly a possibility.
Does anyone kno of a ROM that has the new version of the 2.1 leak that will work on the g1?
Weird stuff going on with my local cell towers and the network location provider on my Aria.
For the longest time, I'd been using the Aria Liberated R012 ROM. I never had any problems with using the network location provider in various apps (HTC Date/Weather Clock, Google Maps, Yelp, etc.) until just about two weeks ago.
I noticed that on the road from home to work, I wasn't getting ANY location fix. But when I'd take a trip out to a different location for shopping, suddenly I'd get the location updates again. GPS works fine, but I don't want to keep it on all the time for simple location data.
I thought perhaps AT&T's recent slews of OTA updates might have something to do with it. So I decided I'd do something I was planning on doing for a while now anyway: load a newer ROM which might incorporate any patches that AT&T had made.
I opted for Cyanogen 7. Installed it last night. Found it ran a little sluggish on my Aria (even after overclocking), but noted that my network location provider was working again.
I ultimately decided that I couldn't deal with the sluggishness. So this morning, I installed Cyanogen 6, AND THEN I tried out the new Aria Liberated 2.2.2 ROM. What I noticed in BOTH of these Froyo builds, was that my network location provider was once again NOT working.
I know part of this puzzle involves the configuration of AT&T's local cell towers. But what about the rest of it: why would Cyanogen 7 (Gingerbread) work, while Cyanogen 6 and Liberated 2.2.2 (Froyo) fail?
And in the case of the two Cyanogen mods, might the difference have something to do with what version of the Google Apps addon I install? When I get a free minute today, I might do some further testing on this last theory. Scratch that theory. I had previously tried installing Cyanogen 6 with a version of Google Apps from 2010. But even with a Google Apps APK from May 1st, 2011, the network location provider ain't providin'.

Thanks! I'll probably take a second look at that cm7 thread when I get a chance, and might even try to reinstall it.
For what it's worth, the Aria Liberated 2.2.2 thread clued me in to the fact that AT&T also pushed a radio update when they pushed the OS update. It's possible they made some tweaks to my local cell towers that don't play nice with the old radio configuration. Guess I'll try to install that radio update next.
EDIT: And that's strike two.

Your radio only needs to be installed once. It doesn't get cleared or overwritten when you wipe/install new ROMs through Clockworkmod. You can check the version either from the HBOOT screen or from Phone settings when booted up.
It's HIGHLY recommended that you not change the radio version more than absolutely necessary as it is a very risky installation that can permanently brick your phone if it goes wrong. I'm not saying to be scared of installing it once, but just don't install it every time you install a ROM.
As for CM7 -- I find that the default launcher (ADW) lags like crazy. I always immediately switch to LauncherPro and get a much smoother experience. You should probably give that a try.

Surface dithering, over scroll effects, and window animations are a few I can remember off the top of my head. Turn those off and drop vm heap down to 24 (or 16 if your apps allow it) and set home to persistent and you get a nice little boost. Then there's the fact that adw is set up for looks, not performance, out of the box. Scroll and opening speeds are set rather slow.
I'm not sure about adw, but launcherpro also has advanced settings to tweak for performance gains.

Heh. Turns out I was wrong about cm7. I must've had GPS turned on at the time, because my latest test run with it isn't producing a network location fix.
Time to go 10 rounds with AT&T tech support. Should be real fun trying to explain to the level 1 script reader that there's a problem with their local cell tower.

A new development:
When I go into Settings and check 'Use Only 2G Networks', network-based positioning works again.
Seems to be some sort of problem with WCDMA versus GSM. I've managed to dig up some other threads (in this forum and others) where folks with other types of phones (N1, HTC Inspire) have reported similar issues.
I blamed AT&T in my last post, but I've also seen a suggestion that the problem might have something to do with a setting in the Google Services Framework that points to an incorrect URL for the LAC/CID to Lat/Long translation service. I may play with that when I get a chance.
That also doesn't really explain why my original Eclair mod stopped working, or why more people don't seem to have this problem.
More information as it becomes available...

Regarding radio, i have the latest radio that was posted. It seems to have improved my reception fairly well.
Meh. The Google Services Framework fix that I found...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9576852&postcount=108
... didn't do anything for me. YMMV.
At this point, I suspect that I have to chalk this up to cell tower configuration.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with AT&T Customer Support. I called them a few days ago, and the Level 1 support drone forewarded me to the "TeleNav" service center (despite all of my protestations). TeleNav support proceeded to tell me that they don't do support for phones (Gosh. You don't say...) Today's Level 1 drone was a bit better, and forwarded me to someone who actually seemed to be in a position to help.
He didn't have an answer for me, but he WAS willing to help me escalate this to an engineering ticket. He told me to go pick up a new sim card at my local AT&T store, and see if a new sim/device provisioning would take care of the issue. In the meantime, he's sending me a second Aria through the Warranty Exchange process, so I can try to recreate the issue on a different phone.
If I strike out on both counts, he'll escalate it. Otherwise, I'll have a solution of SOME kind sitting in the palm of my hand.
Is setting home for persistent only for adw launcher ?

The new sim card didn't do anything for me.
But suddenly, completely out of the blue, at some point yesterday afternoon...? The network location provider decided that it wanted to begin working for my area again. I hadn't done a THING to the configuration on my phone all day, and when I stepped outside my office, it just worked.
I think I'll still call AT&T back, and ask them what the hell they changed with their cell tower configuration. I doubt I'll get anywhere with it, but it would be useful to know, since this seems to be a random thing that occurs from time-to-time on different carriers (the link I provided earlier described the same issue, but on Rogers Communication's network).

UPDATE: I called AT&T today, and unfortunately, they couldn't tell me whether anything changed on their towers. It'd be nice to know what they were tinkering with, so I could just cut to the chase with tech support if it happens again, but for now, I guess I'll just be happy that it's working again.
when i had my evo 3d, there were 3 subsequent software updates that came out to fix bugs and optimize the sense experiance; however, htc hasnt released a software update yet to fix bugs... whats up with this, are they getting lax on customer support issues, i really dont want to root the smartphone, but im thinking i might have to... what rom really cleans the device up, any suggestions would be nice, considering, i didnt want to root, because the device is top notch, hardware wise, but maybe our devs are cleaning things up that i dont know about.. devs and bros... let me know what you think
For your issues with HTC I would just recommend that you contact support and tell them whatever you think needs fixed.
As far as custom roms meanrom is great.

We got spoiled with the Evo 3D and there being a software update on what, day one? I think we really need a software update for the E4GLTE already. The inconsistent signal is really starting to be annoying.
If they needed a software update for the EVO 3d on day one, there must have been some serious problems with it.. plus look at the support from HTC and Sprint now for the EVO 3d.

For what's worth (and I know this is a stupidly minor bug) I do hope an OTA comes to fix the "Productivity" lockscreen. If you have hyphenated phone numbers in your contacts list, and one of them texts you, the Productivity lockscreen shows their phone number instead of their name. The One-X has already been updated to fix this, among other things.
Again, I know it's small, but it's something. One can only hope they allow for the "Mail" widget on the Productivity lockscreen can at some point show GMail instead of main mail. That would be awesome.
I'm with ya, there needs to be an update to address some of the minor issues...

No major bug?!?!?!
The wifi on this thing is a major bug! I'll use it on my home wifi network and leave, when I check my phone later far away from home it says it is still connected to my home wifi network, while the entire I'm not getting data because it doesn't connect to the mobile network.
When the 3D came out, HTC had a bug fix that very same day to correct quick apps disappearing from the lock screen. Even the original EVO 4G had a bug fix out within the first week to correct problems.
Samsung had a bug fix out the second week for the Galaxy S3 to correct problems.
HTC is losing it and if they keep this up those shrinking revenue numbers will keep coming.

I think there are slight bugs with the new sense, but can be delt with. However, I do believe all "my" major issues (i.e. missed calls, missed sms when using stock or 3rd party sms apps) is a Sprint issue. Sprint's network here in Sacramento (Rancho Cordova), CA. obviously conflicts with the new LTE antena located in the EVOLTE.

rancho? what's up neighbor
bug with font sizes?
Has anyone seen the font sizes change randomly? Mostly happens in Messaging and Mail app. The mail app will sometimes have giant text, and sometimes medium sized text even tho I have the setting set to small. It also doesn't let me pinch to increase or decrease the size of the text... Its really annoying!

I have the same problem, but the pinch-to-resize works for my text.
Well if it's any consolidation we'll probably get an OTA by this weekend if not next. LTE is scheduled to go live on Sunday and there were talks and reports of there being LTE connection issues (the same as how the 3g connection constantly drops for no reason) and an OTA to correct the issue. Now there is also some wording on the Google Play Store under Google Wallet correlating that there will be an OTA in July that will restore Google Wallet functionality. Makes sense since the GSIII had an OTA about the same time as the 7/1 update and that fixed Google Wallet for them. So ours will probably be encompassing a decent amount of bug fixes if at least not those two.
Fix the Wi-Fi disconnects and the multi-tasking essentially keeping nothing running in the background, and I'm good.
A fix for bluetooth audio would be fantastic.
A fix for this stupid multi tasking would be REALLY appreciated.
So what are the pros and cons.... I know about the partition. Are they any other issues with the conversion? If you came back from N4 what made you come back? Cos after the SD card, NFC and LTE fix what else was broken? Thanks in advance.

My main reason for doing the conversion was to get hybrid ROMs like Rootbox or PACman (which weren't available natively on LGOG at the time). To me, really the only pro is a larger selection of ROMs. This isn't necesarily a better selection, just bigger - it depends on what you are specifically looking for in a ROM as to whether this makes it worth it or not.
With the available fixes already posted, there really aren't any huge cons either - GPS works, camera works, you get full internal storage and external SD support. However, there were cases I ran across where I couldn't get certain fixes working with certain ROMs - things like touch key lights not working and the like. I'm sure they are fixable in these cases, it just takes someone smarter than me to figure out how.
I think the main reason the conversion is frowned upon is that there isn't a compelling, across-all-ROMs improvement or feature that would be available on a converted device that isn't available on the 'native' track. So why risk a brick monkeying with partition layouts and potentially dangerous N4 install scripts (apparently some of them flash using partition numbers rather than names, and this will kill ya dead - gotta read carefully. I never ran across one).
I had minimal issues when running converted ( I think I was running that way for 3 weeks or so maybe?? Can't remember). Most of the issues were things that were more annoyances, rather than real usage problems. However, as my main reason for converting was to get a hybrid ROM, once houstonn brought Rootbox to the LGOG natively, I decided to come back. I'm usually a little short on time, and it was getting difficult to keep up with all the LGOG threads, plus all the N4 ROM threads, plus figuring out how to fix the ROMs for use on the LGOG. It's easy here, a one stop shop for LGOG learning, if you will...
I suspect with the native 4.2.2 stuff running around here now, there will be a steady decrease in the amount of 'development' on conversion stuff - it seems quite a bit quieter now than it was a month or 2 ago. I'd rather stay where the action is, as that's usually where the little remaining issues get solved first.
FWIW, I had no issues either converting to, or back from, N4. The threads here do a good job of spelling out the process - it's just a matter of reading through them enough times to understand what is going on and what to expect at each step.
Thanks for writing up your experience... The main reason I asked this question was... Some of the (if not all of them) AOSP Roms have major issues like if GPS works something else will be broken and if something else worksworks other is broken. But I did not see that in N4 conversion. (At least to my knowledge) I'm just talking about just pure aosp Roms. ..is this a trurt statement I'm making? Thanks in advance.

I can't say for certain - most of these 'tradeoff' issues, at least from what I've seen, seem to revolve around which modem you choose to run. I believe, at the moment the only 100% no issue setup is and ICS ROM with ICS modem. I believe these issues persist whether you are on N4 conversion or native LGOG setup - but I could be wrong here.
Here's the basic breakdown - somebody correct me if I'm wrong on these, I haven't run most of these setups personally:
If you run ICS modem on JB ROM, you get broken GPS.
If you run .33 N4 modem you get good GPS and Data speeds, but occasional data drops. Also, apparently you can't make outgoing calls in LTE coverage. You can fix the data connection by toggling airplane mode. This isn't a huge issue for most people, but is for me as I use Google voice and IM apps for messaging (rather than SMS) so if I don't notice the data drop and toggle, I'm missing messages.
If you run ATT JB modem on JB ROMs you get working GPS, decent data speed, and working LTE calling. All Outgoing calls drop to a background process after initiation, so if after hitting dial you need to interact with the call, you have to open the notification drawer and then click on the call to foreground it. Does not impact actual functioning of the call. Network name is reported as 'maritime' rather than AT&T.
I think there's another N4 modem that will work with LTE (.27 maybe - somebody jump in here) so that might be another option...I haven't tried it. there is one N4 modem that breaks LTE support.
I've been almost exclusively on houstonn's RootBox since coming back to native setup - so I may have missed issues with other ROMs - I do try to keep up with all the threads though. Hopefully someone else on one of the others can chime in with other issues, if there are any, that I missed. FWIW, I have never lost GPS on my device...I'm not sure why some have and some haven't...

Thanks again both of you... t I wanted to know why and I think I got what I was looking for.. Anyway, I guess I will stick with my rooted stock JB for now till some of these issues get resolved. Thanks again for all your time.
