Accessing Laptop thru photo gallery? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

When I go into my gallery when connected to wifi it shows my laptop account as one of the thumbnails. When pressed it says "Error: Contents location is not available. Check network status and connected device".
Can someone give detailed instructions on how to set this up?

I actually want to know how to turn that off... I don't want my phone pulling my publicly shared photos but it seems to.

Only reason I want it is to basically backup my pictures between my phone and laptop but it might not even be worth it. Idk...but still, id like to know how the feature works.

P500 LG PC Suite 4 unable to sync contacts

First day with the phone, and so much grief. Never did I expect it.
I am able to transfer music etc from the PC Suite in mass storage mode, but i can't transfer contacts. The sync in progress bar comes up and its stuck there without moving. Then it says ''no response from the phone''.
Deleted usb drivers using usbdeview, and re plugged the phone, but no relief.
Was having other trouble with a 4gb SD Card ''preparing SD Card, checking for errors''. Will be trying to return it tomorrow, i think its corrupted.
So put the original 2 gb in it after a factory reset. 2gb card working but cannot sync contacts from pc to phone. is there any other software, way?
Beginning to wonder if i should have bought this phone.... Haven't slept a wink.
Trying another factory reset with the 2gb card in it - Which surprisingly was the only things that works! I can sync contacts, but i think this is a really irritating way. Im gona have to do another one after i get a 4gd SD.
LG Software developers - do ya'll think we like to spend our lives solving your puzzles??!!
The new LG suite software has a warning to you turn on wifi or 3g conection, before doing the sync.
Have you done that?
Cheers

Hmmm. I haven't got that warning, and ive checked that the PC suite version is the latest one. anyhow, i never leave it on, so maybe that is the cause
Without any problems with MyPhoneExplorer. If you download also MyPhoneExplorer app from market, you can use for transfer also wifi and USB.
PC Sync you need to add account in Accounts & sync
Hello, just bought mine and is very happy with it, considering i bought this to replace my iphone 3gs. pretty much a downgrade, but a new ground nonetheless since its my 1st android phone.
now, people having problems syncing, ive been trying to figure this out since yesterday. heres what u need to make sure to sync contacts/mail/calendar:
-make sure u have 3g/H signal on top of your notifications.its network dependent, u might have to adjust it on settings, network, mobile network, access point names. choose one that gives u 3g signal
-make sure 2g only signal option is unchecked
-make sure your phone is visually on. adjust your screen timeout on settings, display, timeout setting and put it on 30 mins so your phone doesnt sleep.
try syncing it again.
hope this helps.
LG Optimus P500 Outlook sync issue resolution
Hi All,
As suggested in this earlier thread, I was able to resolve the outlook sync issues. Though it might sound weird, you need to have the wi-fi or 3G data turned on, for you to be able to successfully do a sync. I kept the wi-fi on and was able to do a sync of my contacts and calendar, though there were some repeat entries in my calendar. I will have to work that out!
Here is what you should be doing:
Connect you phone to the computer
Ensure that you aren't switching on the mass storage
Keep your wi-fi or 3G data turned on
Launch LG PC suite IV and start synching.
There is an update available for the PC sync suite, which i downloaded today. I am seeing an improvement in the performance of the application, when I switch between contacts to messaging to calendar etc., The latest version is 4.2.46.20101118.
Hi all,
Houston we have a problem
I'm having problems connecting my phone with PC Suite. I was able to cennect it in "mass storage mode"and instal PC Suite from it, but i can't connect phone with PC Suite. It starts loading and then the error comes out saying either; "device cannot be opend, it's beeing used by another program" or "not responding". If I then press OK, it throws me into the LG Air Sync, with the same errors.
I tried what @xeboslavvb said, but only with 3G, cos i don't have wi-fi(yet).
Need help, please It's my first smarthphone so i might be missing something obvious.
tnx
Well, you can use MyPhoneExplorer instead, so easy and fast
So i can use it to sync phonebook, update to 2.2.1 etc. It wont "hurt" the phone?
I'll try it. tnx
I would still like to have PC Suite working, so if there are any ideas...
edit:
LOL, i don't know what is wrong with it. I instaled MyPhoneExplorer on computer, connected the phone and then in the MyPhoneExplorer another error " Connection to phone could not be established:No device attached to USB"?
edit2:
All I had to, was to connect the phone to the backplate USB port, the front one only worked in "mass storage mode"...

First, download Myphoneexplorer to your pc(website) and your phone(from market)
then open the program on your optimus, it will give you 2 options:
1-Wifi(Working if your pc and your optimus on the same router)
2-USB(should set Debugging Mode to ON)
select which connection you prefer, then press connect on PC program (you have to select that you're connect an Android phone from tools)
Tadaaaa.. connected
sorry for long post, but it could be useful to noobs
Tnx, but like I said, all i did was connect it via. "backplate" USB port and it worked. Don't know why...
You could sync it to your google account and then use your google account to sync to your phone. I have that and it works great
Hi All... I can synch to LG PC Suite IV...
All...
What I did is just to turn on 3G and Shazaaam!!!...
Actually I don't know why this synch needs from 3G, because basically the connection is through USB...
Hope this can help to you...
Memo.

Lg pc suite is too buggy. Try my phone explorer, for sync contacts, sms etc.
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/
I also had problems with Lg pc suite, but it seems you do need a working networkconnection (in my case enabling Wifi worked) even if connected to usb!
I guess it is due to bad programming from LG
pcsync worked for me only when using a stable wifi connection
until then i also tried using it in vain
after getting wifi router things changed
i could sinchronize my contacts

[Q] Retrieving data (Pictures etc.) from locked Samsung GS3 - Black screen

Hi XDA
I have a problem I hope you can help me with.
Yesterday, while I was using my phone, the screen looked like it "shorted". It went black and white, horizontal lines apeared, flashing all over the screen. I haven't been able to get the screen to show anything since. The touch function still seems to work though.
I have a lot of pictures of my daughter and such on this phones that I would very much like to retrieve from the phone, if possible, before I send it to be repaired. I fear that, if they have to change the motherboard, I will loose all of the data, since it's located on the phones internal memory.
Now I've not been very smart, I haven't backed up the photos on Dropbox or Google Drive etc. so all of the pictures are placed on the phone, and as an attempt to reset the phone, I've pulled out the battery, reseting and LOCKING the phone in the "enter pin code" screen (Samsungs buildt in security), meaning that I cant "open" the phone and retrieve the pictures from the PC - Kies does not work either, it tells me the phone is locked, meaning I have to open it with the pin, and since there is no screen, this is impossible.
Is there any program or "root" hack etc. that I can install on the pc and force the phones USB data sharing to open, so that I can mount it on the PC and get the pictures?
I've googled around, but nothing I can use, has showed up.
Thank you in advance!
try adb from recovery, but if the pin encrypts the phone, it won't work. nothing will, actually.
what you have to do is hook up a tv out and use yout tv as a screen

Recovery wont work.. how do I hook it up to a tv? The phone only has usb...
Nvm
I'll go buy an mhl cable !
Well that didn't do the trick.
The phone wont send picture to the tv, so I guess I'm screwed
but once you've got your phone screen on tv, you could upload photos to drop box/google drive?

[Q] Recover files from Galaxy S4

Today the screen on my phone decide to finally give in (see link)
i62.tinypic.com/o5zt6b.jpg
I now have a slight issue.... I thought oh it will be easy to recover my photos and files from he phone and itll be a 5 minute job.. however this is not the case. I plugged my s4 in to my computer and it come up as a media device. I searched for videos and photos on the device but nothing came up.
After looking on the internet, i found an application that i can use my my phone via usb on the pc.... however it appears that usb debugging is NOT enabled, this is also tied with the issue that my phone had a pattern lock and a pin combination to access the system
Is there a way i can recover the files from my phone? It contains some sentimental photos of past family members and some really important documents for my assignments.

The media is not going to be accessible while the pattern lock is enabled, which is why it connects but does not display any files. There is not a way around this. Your only solutions will be to get the screen fixed or to find a friendly shop that can connect a screen long enough to disable the pattern lock and enable USB Debugging, if needed. In the future, it might be a good idea to look into syncing your pictures and other important data to a cloud service like Google+, Dropbox, etc. on a regular basis to avoid being stuck with less than desirable solutions during worst case scenarios.

Galaxy S3 i-9300 Cracked screen + touch screen. Need to view call history or SMS.

I dropped my s3 and now it has a very thin crack on it. First I was able to see some colours but now it is only black - touch screen gave no response aswell. I was also lucky enough to get the battery out on the initial drop so now all I can do is turn the phone on with or without simcard and let it connect to Wi-Fi. There were no SD Cards aswell.
The phone is not rooted, it is just "stock" in every way.
Getting it repaired costs more than what I paid for it while buying it from a friend years ago so I'm not even considering to get it repaired, I will buy a new smart phone, probably a Galaxy Note 4 or 5. (I'm not sure but this info might be useful. My smart phone knowledge is not much but may be there is a way to fix my issue(that I am explaining below) with the use of a Galaxy Note - without disintegrating the new Note)
My problem is that I need to retrieve a phone number that I didn't have the chance to save yet at the time of the drop. The number is probably one of the latest 5 in Call History and there was also an SMS that came from that number - that specific SMS was saved on the phone, not the simcard.
Absolutely nothing happens on computer side(Windows 7 Ultimate) when I plug it via USB. Can't see the content of the phone in File Explorer or anything else. I updated drivers. The phone starts charging, though.
Samsung Kies does not work as it does not recognize the phone when connected via USB and I need to scan the QR Code to connect it via Wi-Fi which is impossible since I can not give any commands to the phone nor see anything but a black screen.
I have this Samsung Link program. It recognizes the phone through Wi-Fi and I can browse files in the phone from my computer. I checked all files, there is nothing SMS or Call History related. On my web searches, I found out that SMS messages are stored in "/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databeses/mmssms.db" but there are no such folders that start with "com.android.providers".
I did not have debugging or other things active at the time and I can not turn anything on or off. It only has Wi-Fi enabled.
I can't even turn the phone off except for pulling the battery out since I need to touch the shut down option that comes in the menu when you hold the power button on the side.
Is there a way to view my Call History or SMS messages from my computer? Please bear in mind that I can not install any apps or give any commands at all to my phone by the use of its screen and it is not recognized by the computer when it is connected via USB.
Most success I've had is the program called Samsung Link that allows my computer to connect to the phone by Wi-Fi and browse files, pictures, videos and such. (Also I did another check for both USB and Wi-Fi connections while typing these. USB still does not work)
I do not have access to another phone to swap screens-motherboards-whatnot.
Kind regards.

You won't be able to view the stuff you're looking for with a file manager on PC, Windows can only view the MTP portion of your sdcard, it cant access or view your system partition which is where mmssms.db is located. You will need to have the device rooted in order to retrieve the files you're after.
You can connect a USB mouse to your device and make selections using the mouse instead of touch, the tricky part is knowing where things are on the display to select them, you can use screenshots of the needed screens from another device like yours. If you can get it to connect to PC via VLC you can share the screen to your PC and navigate that way(you'll need root to access the folder you're after), if you can get it to screencast you can navigate that way also.
Regardless of whether you repair the screen or not, you will have to root the device to do what you're doing.

You can also try flashing a custom recovery(CWM if you can get it, what I'm talking about might not work with TWRP and if it did it would still be tricky). CWM can be used by the hardware keys to make selections where TWRP is touch which wouldn't work for you. With a CWM custom recovery you could make a backup of the device then copy the backup over to PC then extract everything you need. You could even root and flash TWRP then boot to TWRP and connect to adb and use adb to create a backup, there are instructions that are easy to find for creating backups with adb, just make sure you understand the instructions so that you're sure you're retrieving everything you need. Then extract what you need from the adb backup.
Maybe easier but more time consuming, contact your service provider and have them send you a copy of your call history, it should all the numbers you've called during the period of time that you ask them for.

Total Nube with a smashed/squashed, but "live" S9+

Hey all, I am totally new to this sort of thing with phones, but have a long IT/networking/Telecom career behind me. I am new to the site, so don't know the best way to find what I'm looking for. My predicament is this: I have an S9+ that was run over (many times ). The case and screen are totally smashed, like a fractured mirror, and are inop. The buttons do not work. BUT it is still powered up and connected to my LAN via WiFi - I can see it in my Connected Devices list on the router. I plugged it into my PC with the USB cable, but unfortunately the PC is not recognizing it. I have already obtained and activated a replacement S9+. Is there any way to recover my data, apps, logs, etc. from the squashed device?

Hi,
You can try to connect to findmymobile.samsung.com and find your device. Before that you should have a samsung account configured on the device.
After connecting to the website, you should see your phone with the location and when you click on it you will see some options such as "Save".
Click on it and select what you want to save (app data are not saved if i'm not wrong).
Try from there and let me know if it work for you
Thanks for your response, riojosepha! Unfortunately I did/do not have a samsung account. At least not one intentionally set-up by me. Was one perhaps setup automatically when I purchased the phone through VZN? I'll try poking around at findmymobile.samsung.com as you suggest.
To close out this thread: I am unable to access the phone. I am going to take it to a data recovery company.
