We have a whole Xperia Ray supporting/ developing community. I think someone will do the "hard" work for everyone else here. Someone will port it (or at least some of the features) to xperia ray. I hope so!

the next one says Xperia Mini Pro Won't Get JB
well
that's the fact
i assume all the 2011Xperia Line won't Get JB as they have the same Ram and CPU

no update to JB for 2011 xperia lineup..
http://www.gsmarena.com/2011_xperia...no_ics_for_optimus_2x_and_black-news-4570.php

what a stupid reply from that guy.
"we're always developing new phones and making sure they get the latest updates."
so he expect we should buy a new shiny phone everytime google updates android.

So bad of Sony. We middle class ppl can't buy every time a new higher end mobiles for each n every updates. This really hurts for every xperia 2011 model holders. Too bad.

imho the ram is the problem, and teh single-core cpu.
ics was made for phones with dual-core cpu and 1gig of ram.
i'd be surprised if jb would run the same/better as ics on our phones.
and you have to admit, ics is remarkebly slower on our "cheap-ass" phones (mines a ray) as gb,
gb is fast as hell compared to ics.
even if i overclock my phone gb is still much faster @stock

we can get custom JB rom .. and who cares about sony's JB update i am sure it will suck as ICS sony's update did before..
i am currently using Custom ICS rom as i didnt like sony's ICS update

well. sony's ics is (4.0.4) just as fine as any other ics rom offered here (imho), if you're uninstalling all the unnecessary ****, know what i mean?
running ics 4.0.4 from sony now, uninstalled all the bloatware i dont need, and its just as performant as any other ics rom offered here.
all those tweaks offered here are (imho) just eyewash, tried so many roms, tweaks and stufff, believe me, my stripped stock-ics is just as fast(slow) as any offered ics-rom for ray here.

Dude JB runs with no lag on NEXUS ONE

One of the main problems is the companies always look for including their bloatware, no matter if it's unnecessary, bad and full of bugs; this slows the system performance dramatically. Yeah, nasty policies.
It seems like another war is coming, like when SE announced Xperia X10 wasn't going to be updated to GB. At the end, thanks for all the claims and petitions, they delivered it, but its version was terrible slow... However, that phone runs fine with AOSP.
So, the problem is NOT the hardware, but the bad software SONY delivers. I always wonder why SONY engineers have that level of incompetence.
Im still a SONY fan thanks to their beautiful models... But just for decisions like this, Im thinking about switching to HTC.
Btw, JB is supposed to be an ICS improvement, not a total system upgrade (this is confirmed by a friend of mine who owns a Galaxy Nexus and recently updated it to JB). More reasons to question SONY for not delivering.

Sony is now a ****ty company...they underestimate there phones that's the reason its drowned...if not they someone else will make a rom for xperia... Moreover all the Sony stock roms suck... So it'll be better that some developer makes it...cuz he can understand a user's need...

i'm totally agree with u dude .. its much more hard to have the new high-end phone for some people :crying:

Sony does NOT underestimate their phones. Its just like someone said here.. The want uz so buy new phones JUST to have the new JB update.. Its not that JB would be slow on 2011 Xperias.. thats ****. . I bet my ass that they had 4,1 for far longer that they announced it... just *****ng marketing.. "lets put 4.0 to all 2011 phones and we can USE the "new" 4.1 to get ppl top buy the new models... thats so cheap of sony but I bet my ass its just like this...

Not only SONY but every manufacturers are playing games, they want users to buy new phones instead of using their old phones. every one knows our phones are not so old that they cant handle JB,. even JB is more liter and faster then ICS its perfect for our low end phones.

Because Stock Android dont have custom skins and custom skins is hard to make it compatible with the newest android releases.. thats why nexus s can get ics jb...
and btw dont bother switching to htc.. u know the htc desire hd the flagship ? not getting ics .. and also sony has updated the entire 2011 line.. xcept play but have released a beta ics.. and samsung only updates flagship phones.. so galaxy s advanced? never gonna see the dessert.. stays on ginger..

Sony isn't favorable to update the old phones, after all is new which it is better and so on. As well as to all other producers money is necessary to them. It is a lot of money.

Xperia GX (Hayabusa) and Xperia SX (Komachi) are official

Apparently, it is only stated that they are specifically designed for Japanese market. Not sure about whether it will be release internationally with different design (Xperia S for example). Well, if it is the same design as these pictures below, I would be disappointed. Looks much uglier than S and Ion (Though GX has the convex back like Arc and SX front looks somehow resemble to iPhone 4).

Not really minor, Qualcomm S3 of XPS is nothing compared to other dual-core, but Qualcomm S4 is the king of dual-core right now
The screen size is also larger with very marginal increase in size (128mm -> 131mm in height)
So there's no any news about the SD card slot?cause If it has like SD card slot that'd be epic..
haha what minor update??seriously then why does it score alot better than tegra 3? that's funny.
GX just made me wow, effin' love it
hope it sees international release sometime soon, I'm really looking an xperia device to replace my old X10
****inn ****!! The ugly's level is over 9000!!!!!!!!
they all look pretty ugly to be honest. I don't think the picture is real tho.
pictures are real, they are same as the one post on sony japan website
Hmmm...
Well Okay...
To me, the upgrade isn't that much comparing what you sacrifice in design. If those are the final devices (yea, I know, I say this a lot between the other threads) Sony seems to have ditched the design factor and the light bar.
I'm glad the GX has the Arc curve though, so the Arc people will be happy. It just doesn't do anything more than that design-wise in my opinion.
It's a bit of a bummer that they dropped the light bar, and are going down the generic form path :/.
It's what I thought though, the GX does indeed appear to be the S with an upgraded core, so the deciding factor would really be design (S) or if you are a spec-junkie the S4 (GX). Yes, the screen is larger, but it has onscreen buttons, so you lose screen real-estate.
All in all, I'm keeping my S for two years . I am curious to see what next year will bring.
Final thought (or just something I forgot to add ):
I wonder if it has a card slot in it, because that is quite small if it's not expandable, which would be another big deciding factor.
Xperia GX
I think the GX is way sexier than the Xperia S & thinner well most of the phone is. I so hope this is released in the Uk, but only if the battery is as least 2000 mAH

Well, at that size you just do not have that many options. If they add the bar, already long phone will get even longer.
But it is a shame anyway. They could at least "fake" something resembling the light bar, not necessary transparent, as it would be great notification light. Something most phones nowadays are sorely missing.
I just hope, that this is not the real "hayabusa".

This is a bit of an afterthought, as I am just looking through that pdf now.
I thought it was just the picture, but the SX has a rather large space between the earpiece and the screen, giving it a very long effect. Kinda like the old pre-smartphone candybar phones.
Maybe it was the last little SE thing before they were taken over, to launch the S and such with the light bar. But on these devices it's like they were designed when the creative department was on vacation :/.
Even the Sola (which I thought was launched as a new tech gimmick) had a sort of light bar to it and I felt was better designed.
The GX and SX are nice devices, but I wouldn't consider them flagships like some people are saying, they seem to be rushed to me, I don't know...
The big upper bezel in the SX is only because of the Japan-specific features. They have to put the TV antenna and IR blaster somewhere now don't they
The GX is perfect for an international release. No Japan-specific features, no carrier branding so far. The only thing they'd have to change is the modem, and that is just a slightly different SoC. I highly suspect the GX to be released near the end of the summer in EMEA. The US can f* off, they get enough nice exclusive phones already anyway

If rumours about 1750mAh are true, then I am afraid it is dead for me. And probably to many others outside of japan.
Even if it has replaceable battery.
I was really hoping to see just an updated Xperia S
I love the design of XS, these new ones, they does'nt look premium or even a little bit special
Sony has to learn that 3 models per year is just right
A high-end, mid-end, low-end and at the max, a new Xperia Play
all other techs developped during the year must wait to the next's years flagship device.
I'll probably stay with my Arc for a year or 2
waiting for a not too big phone, quad-core, better battery life, and why not, the same technology used with the Xperia Active?
Woo, I'm glad I have an Xperia S. Those things are butt-ugly.
Seriously Sony? Get rid of Ericsson and release one of the dopest looking phones on the market - only to release some of the ugliest phones right after?
This does not bode well.

I think its pretty minor. The only thing the krait does better are benchmarks. The S is already really fast, but it could have better memory latency and bandwidth which the GX does have. The S never has lag in my opinion and unless you want a bigger epeen, you really don't need the new core for most tasks. I do like the look of the new casing alot, it is how the Xperia S should have been made. I am not a fan of the arc design though and the screen is too damn big. 4.3 is perfect.
The idea that the gx will come packed with an s4 processor is right now, just pure speculation.
There would be no phones released this year by Sony with radically different hardware from either the s or the ion.
To do that would be to diminish and even you could argue make a mockery of the term flagship.
They cannot release a new flagship barely 5 months after the launch of the s.
I know it was disappointing to see the S launched with the s3 but I'm afraid Sony users will just have to make do with that this year.
Sony always cheap out on processors. They did it last year with the arc and it's the same story now.
I don't know maybe they do it to stay competitive on pricing or to just keep the price down considering the 12mp camera on board.
Don't forget that the recommended retail price for the xperia s is £460 as compared to the one x which is £480.
The fact you can find the S for much less is due to the fact the big retailers have refused that price because of the great difficulties they had selling the hopeless phones Sony Ericsson released last year.
So you could say, the S is having to clean up the mess left behind by all those competitively weak devices released last year.
Dual core made more of an impression last year than quad core will make this year because android really need multi threading. After two two cores, anything else is just a bonus but not essential.
By that, releasing single core phones last year was just plain ridiculous.

Well, there is one fairly significant difference: the LTE.
The only way to go with S3 would be to integrate some "external" 3rd party solution, like some "early birds" from HTC or Samsung did.
Which would be a huge undertaking with their share of problems. And I doubt such small device as SX would be doable at all. This is before we even consider such things as battery life.
Similarly, ST-Ericsson NovaThors with LTE won't be available until 2013.
To do that would be to diminish and even you could argue make a mockery of the term flagship.

I have an impression, the Xperia S was rushed emergency release. Just to have something to sell *now*, and not a part of normal development pipeline. If so, the xs will be pushed to background as soon as real flagships are ready.

Sony confirm xperia play will not get android 4.0

Sony confirms Xperia Play will not get Android 4.0, cites stability concerns
By Chris Welch 05.25.2012
A day after word spread that Sony's Xperia Play had vanished from its list of incoming Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades, the company has come forward and confirmed that the gaming-centric handset will not be making the jump to Android 4.0. "After extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich," says the post at Sony's Xperia Product Blog. "Therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia Play."
According to Sony, a beta test conducted on unlocked Play units brought about similar concerns from users and developers. The news doesn't bode well for a product once heralded as the company's flagship PS Suite hardware —and the only such device to offer physical gaming controls. It's hard to see how Sony could add much in the way of new features if it's cautiously leaving owners behind on Gingerbread in hopes of preserving a consistent user experience. Despite what's presented as good intentions, we doubt Sony's explanation will provide much solace to those who are now forever bound to Android 2.3.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
That's because they're not content in making a proper kernel and optimizing ICS for it's hardware. This is bogus.
They're plan of making cheapo ICS for the 2011 line of Xperia's failed because they know it just won't be up on par with Gingerbread.
They've done a terrible job with ICS for the other 2011 devices but it was permited at least for those as they're not gaming devices.
What I would like to know now is, if they'll bring 2.3.7 at least through an update with some fixed to the ROM. It's the least they could do after eating **** for almost an year with promises and bogus
Shame on you sony.

Every single one of your posts oozes with intelligence and sofistication. Good job \sarcasm
I have no idea how some people still don't realise that it's not really Sony's fault. The problem is that the developers won't udate the Play optimized games for ICS so the phone will lose more than half of the game catalogie if it updates. Most of the Gameloft HD games don't work on ICS on any phone. If you really want ICS just install a custom ROM and that's it.
My friend installed official ICS on his Arc S and he reverted to Gingerbread less then a week later. Aside from the recent application menagment improvement it's really not that big of a deal, as it is we have a very optimized device, no need to fix what's not broken.
And for people asking for 2.3.7, read the changelogs and see what it brings. We'll never see it because it's not required on our phones. Cheers!
Delete thread please pax. At the very least this could have been put in the right section with the other people whining and posting the same thing.
Bull****.
If this was purported to be a "flagship" PS suite hardware, they should've done better than a f'kin Adreno 205 with a last gen 1Ghz Soc.
Sorry, but bull****.
You lose, Sony.

That's directly related to the hardware. Do you think game developers will spend precious time tweaking/tuning the hell outta their games so that it can run on the pansy ass Adreno 205 under ICS? hell no...
Now, if it was a decent SoC, they would have definitely considered.
So, the bottom line is : Sony failed in making their "flagship" a *real* Flagship... you know, something that can last f'kin atleast 1-2 years. But no... what did they do? Slapped a 1+ year OLD SoC in it and called it a "PS flagship".
It's the MSM8255. The HTC Desire HD had it in mid-2010, yep 2010. And the Play? Launched in mid 2011 with a f'kin one year old SoC.. flagship my ass.
I believe sony is right, the game dev's just aren't prepared to move all their xperia play games over to ICS, and from what we've seen, we don't really need their official ICS anyway, the community is doing fine without them. Supervenom's ICS AOKP Play! mod works just fine.

No one likes a big company lover .
Those games will get updates and they will run on ICS.
Fact is the ICS Sony cooked up sucks because it delivers way more horrible performance than Ginger.
Fact is even our ginger kernel is a froyo one with hacks to make it work for ginger.
Fact is our last update still needs improvements. By bringing 2.3.7 doesn't actually mean that the Google base has to bring improvements even though the code is cleaner and I have seen it working better than the older 2.3.4 even though changelog does not specify anything in that regard. They can just fix flaws and bring performance updates.
PS: Stop being the big head on a forum, the general public won't like you.

Dear Sony...

I see you have ambitions to become a much bigger player in the Android smartphone market, competing with the likes of HTC and Samsung.
Well, you have started doing the right things, for example, you have a great lineup of phones, and you offer the ability to unlock the bootloader (abiet forfeiting our warranty, but that's no different to what HTC do). However the key area in which you are failing is the key area where ALL Sony products fail. SOFTWARE.
If you truly want to get some mainstream love, you need to be investing in software, not just on mobile, on all your products. However on Android, you need to be talking about Jellybean, and you need to be aiming to get it out on your flagship devices before Samsung does. It's really that simple. If you demonstrate prompt and reliable software updates to the latest OS, then consumers will come.
You also have to understand, that now Jellybean has been out for several months, and there are devices already running it (abiet Nexus devices), it's always going to be a hard sell to try and sell a ICS based device, and you are going to get slaughtered by the press for this (much more than other companies doing the same, simply because you are Sony and you aren't American).
A small chance Sony reads this?
Try Sony forums.

sorry... but till Gingerbread, the Sony (Erricson) software ist one of the best optimiced firmwares around... not that Big Bloatet batterydrain like HTC Sense **** and not so ugly and buggy like Touchwitz... And ICS is just startet and i belive in further FW Releaces, ICS will be great like Gingerbread Firmware.
i meen Samsung kicks out new releases very fast, but with uch more bugs like Sony. And when we talking about optimation - Sony kicks in the Ass of Samsung and HTC..
for real: no other firmware (im talking bout Gingerbread, not for the new ICS) is so fast, battery optimiced and beautiful like the Sony Stock Firmware...
i dont care about the newest of the newese from the newest (and if, here the XDA Devs has every newest ****t better than the Manufactures), i am carring about good working, good looking Software... thats the reason why im Changed fom HTC to Sony (Ericsson) and thats the reason why im stay with Sony (okay, there a couple of reasons more like Greenness)
let Sony a bit time to made a good Firmware out of ICS/JB - thats better than a to early, not good working Firmware

Samsung had promised "early 2012" ics for galaxy note.
How well that work out then?

But Galaxy S2 is a previous generation phone that is going to receive JB. Will Arc S receive JB? Time will tell but for now all I hear is silence.
Don't get me wrong, I am a Xperia user but this silence is making me impatient with Sony. Looks and hardware can only get you so far without software support
I dont think that Sony makes our screens or hardware,so you shouldnt say that this is Sony fault.

Huh????
Sony design, build quality and camera is what keeps me using Sony handsets.
Obviously they don't make all the components that go in them. ( imagine the size of the factory they would need)
Apple source components from other companies as do all other handset manufacturers.
You are stepping out of the point of this thread though.
The point being made is that Sony are slow on the update scene.
And as we see from the replies, as usual we get an instant debate.
Yes...having the latest version of android is important to some. And yes it CAN be a deal breaker in the choice of handset to opt for but...
Anyone choosing a handset purely for a new OS isn't doing their homework or that impressed by hardware.
Same as someone choosing a quad core handset running gb isn't that interested in os.
I personally would like prompt updates to my OS but NOT if it is detrimental to the performance of my handset be it via bugs or tweaks that decrease functions in certain areas.
Ok so htc are quick to update but do you want an HTC?
Seriously?
They are ok but not as refined or pretty as the Sony handsets.
And their Desire Hd ( 1 of last years flagships) won't be getting ICS.
So that tells me that HTC are just as capable of OS issues as Sony.
Nexus are rebranded phones made by other companies.
They are only updated quickly because google push for it.
Doesn't mean they are better than Sony, Samsung, HTC ( which used to make the nexus handsets), or huwai. I will leave Motorola out of this list because they fail in hardware, OS and UI and updating areas. ( care to argue? Buy 1 and see for yourself)
Closing statement...
Why rush out a buggy Jelly Bean and get bad press when you can push out a polished Jelly Bean and get less bad press?

really?
Sony's ics release on the xps was full of issues and so was there most recent release for the xperia p (gingerbread) that left the phone basically unusable as a phone!
people on here talk of 'lets wait and get a fully optimized release' and that it will be worth the wait but im inclined to not agree. Just my opinion of course but all the most recent phones i have had from sony (currently own xps) have had fantastic hardware and awefull software...to the point where actually i cant put up with it any longer and end up getting rid of it for something else. Im sure i wont be the only one in this regard also.
Great design and hardware etc will only go so far before the thing pisses you off so much that you cant put up with it any longer!
this thread is stupid

I beat a guy on stock Optimus 2x with lots of crap today with cm9.1 on mine. That's fair play ( I think ) as that thing has twice our processing power. Let's see if I can beat any other dual core...
P.S. Believe it or not, I've never lost to any single core device. Ever.
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
If I may ask. When you people say I beat that and that device. How did you actually beat it, in what way?
Just general responsiveness. Lags in games ( or should I say the lack of it?) I never do benchmarks as I think they are useless to test the phone as a whole. They just test raw processing power.
And against people who want to go specs wise, I just say. No thanks.

Actually you picked model which is raw power but bad at being fluid.
Launcher which is used on Optimus 2X is badly made, and it lags by default At least it was on GB, don't know how it's on ICS(if O2X even got ICS)
Kinda same story as launcher on Sony ICS, it is ****, at least in builds before .587, but even in 587 it's not as good as on GB.
Also, you can't compare 2 phones, one on stock, other on custom rom with performance modifications.
Another thing, O2X is on tegra2 SoC, its kinda hard to believe that games were more fast on Neo. as tegra eats games for breakfast but ok if you say so
Sorry, don't want to be downer but put both phones on stock and then compare them.
Also Pandemic told that his phone beat Galaxy Note. I guess he forgot that note have "a bit" larger screen with "a bit" larger resolution. You can't compare car's and trucks.
On big screen and big resolution add that note maybe had some more apps on it.. and nothing strange that he beat him on scrolling and loading pages. Put that kind of screen on Neo and watch him breathing like dying..
For example, 1GHz with 3.5"screen and 1GHz_dual core with 4"screen, nothing strange if you see that both phones have similar result in some graphic tests
Another thing, some phones are just badly made, like htc sensation, it has good spec's but it's badly at usage, don't know how is in benchmarks(actually if I remember correct, it was also pretty bad in tests), but usage is bad.
We all went a bit off topic here, maybe slicing some posts into another thread would be ok..

General chat thread gone off-topic. We have just gone full meta.
I don't mind a new thread though.
The last few weeks I was seriously considering buying a new phone in about 3 months, but I just realized that this phone isn't too bad on Jelly Bean. Every normal app works fine (except for the crappy built Google Maps). Gaming was never smooth, just puzzle games is enough.
Actually this phone is still better than many new midrange phone.
For example take the HTC One V. Same CPU, lower ppi screen, same android version (actually lower (4.0.3 vs 4.0.4), camera is far worse, only build quality (alu-unibody) is better. This phone is €250 currently. I paid less than €350 for my neo. If I take a look at the pricewatch, the Neo was €250 exactly a year ago. Conclusion: the phone would still be good value for money. I'm pretty sure our camera beats the crappy shooter on the €600 HTC One X+.
Pricewatch
I've also realized I don't have an alternative to choose from. Name a phone with 4" or smaller screen with at least 250 ppi, fast cpu, good camera and expandable storage.
I agree @Madfysh,
But you see, I know people in school etc. who keep giving me s**t about how their phone is better than mine. And after tons of ignoring it, knowing it's no use trying to compare phones, you just have to tell them to STFU. That's when, I take part in these "competitions." And knowing its unfair, I happily give them "in your face b**ch" with custom ROMS.

this is wrong mate, inches of the screen really doesn't matter at all when it comes to performance. What matters is resolution. If 4" screen have a higher resolution and if the same processor and ram then 3.5" one will perform better than 4"

Agree, comparing 2011 xperia mid range(Neo,V,Ray) to today midrange devices there are some downsides with each mid range devices. If I want to upgrade from my Neo to a decent midrange device then in xperia range only thing that comes to my mind is Xperia P but then the huge no comes with 16GB memory :/ This is just an one example.
Anyway on topic well my neo does everything I need it to do and just love the blue gradient color so far only downside I see with neo is 512mb ram.

[Q] MDPI xperia smartphones and kitkat

Hello forum.
I was wondering will this mdpi phones get Kit Kat (4.4) update. I own SE Live with Walkman and I was searching a little on google about this update and I saw that "outdated" phones will get this update too. So my question is: Is there anyone who can answer this question?
Thank You.
I think they will not get the upgrade to Android Kitkat. If Sony didn't give us the Jelly Bean then how about the Kitkat?

if were lucky & find some one to develop it -to use- on our devices, like now mike with JB 4.3 does, maybe yes , but it wil be unofficial..
other point is the HW side if there big problems with some incombability or other probs even very good devs cant do nothing-
at now all is speculation. lets wait as big brother google releases the 4.4 repo than we can say SOMETHING aboth 4.4 on our devices
Hopefully someone will release a Rom
Our 2011 devices never get old

Maybe you are right, but here (goo. gl/s1Myfp) they say that: "... Xperia mid-range phones: Xperia M, C, SP, L, S, SL, U and many more" will get this update. I don't know what day think with "many more" but I hope that they will make official update for our phones. Google says: For Android KitKat: “It’s our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody.”. I really hope that we will get this update

i think many more just for Sony phone, not Sony Ericsson phone (like we use now :good but just hope for amazing developer made this update for our 2011 MDPI Xperia :victory:
Apparently KitKat will have a lower memory footprint than previous Android versions-but this is speculation as of now. Even so it is the kernel mainly which has lowered RAM usage hence if we (Xperia 2011) were to receive KitKat (which were not) then we would also need the new kernel-which obviously isn't going to happen. I personally don't see Sony updating older devices to KitKat even though it is more suitable for lower end devices-this includes our 2011 Xperia's but also 2012 Xperia's, I can only see the 2013 range getting updated to KitKat.

Its not only about Sony. Samsung also does the same. its a clever tactic to promote the new devices made by the two companies by reducing long term support to older devices. That is where rooting, flashing custom roms come into picture. Of course, more than long term support NEXUS has lot of other advantages as well
