hi guys.
i have a quick question about the sprint insurance company, i was riding my motorcycle yestarday and my bike has a cell phone holder. acidentilly i forgot to lock the phone on it, i was on a group ride and the phone felled off the bike and it got runned over from a couple of motorcycle that was behind me.
my question is the phone still turns on but the glass on the screen is all broken and the phone is bent as well.
do you guys know if the insurance cover that?
do phone is unlocked and rooted would that be a problem with the insurance or should i lock beck up.
thanks guys any responce will be appreciated.
anybody...
any help...
You could call them and ask. As for being rooted, I don't think that's going to be an issue, but you could unroot first to be safe.

Asurion doesn't care if the phone is rooted or not. As long as you pay the deductible, they don't care what's wrong with the phone.

Thanks guys i am really surprized with the insurance i called yestarday morning and the phone is already in my house.
too bad is not the ept4g, but is ok i like the evo 3d as well.
Just call the company and tell them that you drop it and you need a new one but don't tell anything about the root ....
insurance company doesn't care about root or not....root is only for manufacturers warranty. Just tell them what you have to regarding the incident and end of story as long as you pay your monthly fee.
word of caution, recently I had a friend who smashed the screen on his HTC sensation (same gorilla glass) however because the screen still responded perfectly the insurance company refused to repair his phone despite the fact he pays his insurance.

iam a complete noob when it comes to putting it together and i was thinking of just buying the touch screen but i think its gonna be hard

How broke is it? If its just unresponsive then take it to the shop and they will send it away. If its smashed then your insurance will cover it. How do they know when it happened?
My touch screen went and I took it to Vodafone who in turn sent it to HTC and they couldn't fix it so they sent me a new phone. You are on a contract and you pay insurance. They have to help you. It's in your contract.
well the phone works and i can see everything on the screen but i cant do anything cuz touch doesnt work. my contract is with t-mobile and i went to the shop today and they said it might cost me around £120. my insurance company already rejected the claim cuz apparently they state in their terms and conditions that i had to report it within 24hours.
i wish if there is a shop where i can give them the touch screen and they can fit it for me

How long have you had the phone? Mine was a year old when I took it in. Go to another t mobile store give it to them, tell them you don't know what's wrong with it. They will take it off you and send it away. Or ring them and explain. They won't want to loose a valued customer.

You didn't say the screen was cracked. Surely the insurance should cover accidental damage. If it doesn't what's the point of it. I've had my Hd2 for 14 months now and still love it. Cancel the insurance and put the money towards getting the beautiful machine fixed. Don't do it yourself because I've known people who know more than me and you to fook it badly. Good luck. Ps. Get the desire hd in July

Have you considered calling your insurance and (while praying that you don't get put on to the same person you had last time) saying that you cracked the screen an hour ago? This 24 hour rule seems ridiculous.
But yeah, only replace digitizers if you feel confident that you know what you're doing. I've done it for about 6 different phones and iPods, and I'd say that for 3 of those I've ended up having to buy more parts I wasn't expecting to pay for just because I made a tiny mistake.

If you actually made a claim then yeah, I guess you're right. Haha... I don't know. I've stopped with these things recently because I've been so busy, and I hate working on things that aren't my own in case I break something. I was considering buying a cracked HD2 and fixing it up for myself a while ago but the soldering put me off, it's all just a bit too fiddly.
Turns out TEP was not added when we got our phones.
I called and had them add it. Still $7!

You had the option to add it during the online activation or phone activation. I also hope people remembered to save that 6 digit password they gave you in the activation. That was your MSL code.

Yup aka Insurance/in store repairs. $100 deductible on any insurance claim, and no charge for any repairs or replacements if it's not an insurance claim.

Maybe you were so excited while activating it. For me it was on the screen that had the $10 Premium Data charge. There were other items you could have added at that time including the Sprint roadside assistance and some other stuff.
I think it's good you pointed this out, as for any high end phone I think it's money well spent.
Plus one advantage to TEP over manufacturer warranty is you never have to hear Sprint say, we need to have HTC take care of this.
i dont understand why anyone would want TEP. i mean the phone is under warranty for 1 year, after 1 year you'll prolly get a new phone anyways. if you wait until your 2 year contract then its a little under $200 and you can get a new phone when your 2 year contract is up.
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the warranty just cover device defect? The TEP covers if you throw the phone into the Pacific. When I find out it can't be rooted, for instance.

That shows the difference. You get more service from Sprint themselves if you have TEP, otherwise your warranty is with HTC not Sprint so it takes longer to get taken care of.

TEP covers a lot more than warranty items. Warranty is manufacture defects not dropping your phone in the toilet, running it over with your car, dropping it on the pavement, or having it stolen. Good luck getting a new phone under any of those conditions. You will be out $600 bucks. Plus with TEP (@$100.00) I will get a replacement phone the next business day.

$100 is still cheaper than the $549 you need to buy a new evo outright.
so I have unlocked by htcdev.com my question is what happens to my tep? If I end up dropping it in water or it is stolen then what happens?
Your TEP is still in effect, You did not void your insurance. Just remember not to tell them your rooted if you have to get a replacement. If mine dies and I have to call them, I'm just gonna say it got lost lol

awesome! thats what ill do then if anything happens to it.
Im wondering if there keeping a log of all users that are registered on the HTC dev. Due to the token and watermark. Because if they are they could tell sprint or asurion that you were rooted tho sprint would know due to the S relocked. Sprint really doesn't care tho most of the techs are on board with root.
Hopefully there is another method to root soon.
I know the ICQ thing was trackin stuff in the past and sprint shut it down wouldn't be something new if HTC snuck something in.

As the title states, I discovered one red pixel. I hate it. So I'm looking for suggestions to get this repaired.
I'm trying software solutions for now. But can someone recommended a reputable service company that could repair/replace the screen?
I'm good with that sort of stuff and wouldn't mind repairing or replacing the screen myself.
Please and thank you! I found this discovery to be quite devastating and am the type to do whatever it takes to get the device to where I want. Thanks, again.

Damn that sucks lol I'm ocd when it comes to a dead pixle or lint on a screen protector . There is a guide on here to replace ur screen also ebay has new screens pretty cheap . You also could have Sprint fix it if you bring your own part maybe . I would do it my self if I didn't have insurance on it.
you might be able to find an app or video that flashes a bunch of colors a lot, I did that with an ipod that had a stuck pixel and it fixed it for me
I know I fixed one on a monitor by putting pressure wth my finger and turning the monitor off and on. Not sure if the touch screen stops that front being a solution.

If you are going to send it to the insurance anyway, get everything you want out, then crack it.... i mean literally just drop it till the screen brakes, then take it to the insurance for a cracked screen, or sink it! ...not prove it was ever rooted!...it might work...what you think?

Worked for my evo 4g...I stuck it in a cup of water... Then turned it on and put it in the freezer
If you want to do it the "free" way pull battery... Insert into microwave for 10th seconds... And try to turn it on.... If it doesn't turn on go to sprint and say "it got warm on the charger and won't turn on"
If it does turn on try the microwave again (not long enough to melt anything just enough to fry the motherboard)
*note*
People have been doing this since the G1 days and has worked for people...don't blame me if it doesn't tho

You get a new phone from insurance.
If you got the phone within the past 14 days, they will swap it out for you with a new one free of charge.
You can also return it and get another phone like the ET4G.
If it's been over 14 days but within 30 days, you can still get the Sprint TEP insurance which replaces it with a new one. Pull battery during a flash and then it won't boot up. Give it to them and tell them it stopped working. They will replace it with a new one.
Even if it's been over 30 days, you can call and (politely) complain about how you bought the phone new and it had a dead pixel. They will send you a new one free of charge (you will have to send yours back but they will send you a new one)
These will all work with an unlocked bootloader since they don't check. If you want to be more safe, you can run 'fastboot oem lock' in a terminal while in bootloader, but it will say ***RELOCKED*** at the top and you won't be able to unlock it again.

Once you take the phone out of the box and turn it on, it is "used". Not sure why people feel they are entitled to a brand new phone to replace a used one. Sprint will give you a new one under warranty for the first 30 days if you have problems. Otherwise, you get a refurbished one to replace your used one.

Once again insurance fraud is illegal.
If the OP has had the phone less than a year, a dead pixel is covered by the factory warranty through sprint. Just unroot and take into a corporate sprint store, they will either fix the screen, or give you a replacement for free. Insurance is not needed if you are within one year from the purchase date. Insurance is only for losing/breaking/stealing your phone.
These will all work with an unlocked bootloader since they don't check.

Every corporate sprint location will check if your device is rooted. If it is, they will just ask you to unroot it, so he might as well just unroot before going in.
Thanks to a few of you.
I'm returning it for a new one.

Just to be sure you are clear, a cracked screen is covered by the insurance (Asurion), not Sprint (warranty). I don't think it is possible to add insurance to a phone you bought on ebay. But if you do have the insurance, they don't care if you are rooted or not, and you don't send the phone to them for repair, they just send you a new (refurb) phone.
