Samsung Galaxy S2 Kies Update problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there
I am on Three (uk network and the phone is branded) trying to update my phone
current version: PDA:LP7/Phone:LP3/CSC:LP3 (H3G) to PDA:LPI / Phone;LP4/CSC:LP4 (H3G)
I got message on my phone that the update has been downloaded and ready to install
when I press install the phone reboots and says that is has been unsuccessful and to do it with Kies..
But when I connect my phone to my laptop , start Kies , saying that there is firmware upgrade .. Press the Upgrade button and nothing happens..
Left it like that for about 15 min.. and nothing ..
Reinstall kies .. same thing..
Press the upgrade button and nothing happens..
Tried with USB debugging option on the phone turned on and turned off .. still the same
any ideas ?
Thanks

I was getting the message "failed to update firmware. Try again using PC (software Kies) or visit a samsung service centre." I called three and samsung and NONE of them new about this update(GTI9100 ver.12.03.14.01)/ PDA:LPI/PHONE:LP4/CSC:LP4 (HG3). they told me you have the latest software.
In the end I had to delete my samsung account on my phone, back up everything on kies (expect the additional settings as it would not let me back those up). the factory reset the phone and then download and install the software through kies and it worked. It was so annoying as the software update message could not be turned off.

[Q] SGS2 - Firmware Upgrade - Failed to Convert to upgrade mode

Hi,
Last week i got my Galaxy S2 and am really obsessed with the performance and beauty of her.
Today i installed lastest version of Kies and when i connected my phone thru USB, it said that new version of firmware is available (KF3).
I clicked OK to upgrade the firmware and it showed downloading firmware and after some time it said that "Failed to convert to upgrade mode" and i tried upgrading my firmware for 5-6 times but no luck..
Any one here know how to update the firmware to KF3 (INDIAN version)
Turn OFF AV and Firewall .
jje
thanks mate...but i tried but no luck....
Try resetting your phone to factory settings.Sometimes there are certain apps which interrupt the upgrade procedure. Needless to say, Do backup all your data and apps
better you would use odin to flash a rom.
Make sure you installed KIES in administrator mode.
Somehow i followed the steps given by you guys and able to successfully download the firmware. but after some time Kies showed some error in unknown language ( i think its korean) with only OK button (dont have a screen shot though).....now my phone was showing a little android guy with "Downloading....do not turn off target".....i waited for nearly 1.5 hrs and nothing happend...then i searched in net, there it asked me to power off the phone and switchng it on again.....
it came back online as usual and when i cheked the version it was still showing my old one.....any idea what went wrong? and what the heck is that error message, written like a chopstick house......
Solved
i had faced similar isssues while trying to upgrade for last 2 days.
it worked today - all i did was start Kies in Administrator mode.
kies didnt download the firmware again - it took it from previous downloads and did the upgrade.
try it out!

I have been trying to download the new firmware since last 3 days, I even reset the phone back to factory setting, also using Kies in Administrator mode but everytime I click on the option of firmware upgrade it does the back up but after that it says "connection to Gt-i9100 lost ".
Any idea why this would be happening ?
Also any noticeable difference after the update ?

earlier i did the factory reset (including USB erase) plus re installed USB drivers from Kies menu few times at home but it was not upgrading.
Just reconnected on a different machine (as was trying sitting at work ) it just worked. Yesterday I did face teh same issue at work machine as well.
most likely it looks to me either a USB driver issue and / or admin issues.
Hope it helps.
yet to come across any significant improvement changes. still in the mode of re installation of apps.
I tried everything...did factory reset, ran kies in admin mode etc....but still no luck.....can i use odin to update my firmware? if i update now using odin, can i update the next release of updated firmware with kies?

People seem to regularly have problems with Kies. My biggest one is getting the firmware to download: it often times out more than half-way through, eating up big chunks of my broadband data cap every time.
Odin is usually the most reliable way of doing a firmware update. Make sure you use the USB cable that came with the phone, because people have had problems using other cables (such as ones that come with HTC phones).
If you do a firmware update through Odin, it doesn't necessarily prevent later updates through Kies. The only thing you need to watch is that you're using a Kies-released firmware that's correct for your phone. For example, if you've got an Indian phone (GT-I9100LKAINU), you need to flash the XWKF3/ODDKF3/DDKE4 firmware. This is the latest Kies release for that phone. If you flashed a different firmware, such as the XWKF3/XEUKD1/XXKE7 firmware for European phones, Kies will no longer find updates.
You can use the Check Fus Downloader (v1.2 at fus.nanzen.se) to find the latest firmware for your phone, and to download an Odin-flashable package. This will give you a ZIP file, and inside that is a TAR file. This TAR file is then used by Odin.

Hello!
First I want to tell you that are new on this forum and wish you a Happy New Year!
I am the owner of a GT-I9100 Samsung S2 Galaxy a few months, was branded by Orange Romania.
Yesterday I wanted to make him ROOT indicated in the forum they have found.
Everything went well the first step, with Odin, after restarting my phone remained on the screen S2 Galaxy <Samsung GT-I9100> and below yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.
I went to step 2, .... and <Waiting SuperOneClick device> after 10 minutes nothing happened .... so remained.
I clicked on the window and he appeared in the top left corner, after the program name (Not Response), that something is stuck somewhere.
I tried to resume operations, but without succes.
Can anyone tell me how to flash it or how I can put a ROM you can use something?
All I can tell you is that Kies was the last version and the phone was updated daily by Kies. (Unfortunately not noted version)
You advised me to do?
What I have to say is that in some versions of ROM writing software gives me error and squares is red. (That in ODIN).
Thank you in advance.
Your best bet is to start again from the beginning. You can find branded and unbranded firmware here...
Unbranded firmware
Branded firmware
Flash one of them using Odin (as instructed in the thread where you download), but make sure that nothing associated with Kies is running. (Open task manager, look at processes and kill everything that begins with kies.)
Once your phone is working okay, to root just use this very simple method...
Easy Rooting Toolkit
First of all does your computer have the Samsung drivers installed and/or adb drivers?
If you want to root the easiest way is to flash a kernel, cf root is recommended for rooting you can flash this via odin.
This will give you Cwm recovery so you can flash roms via recovery on your phone.

Guys ... do not laugh at me, but now another problem arose.
First I want to thank those who have answered me.
So ... let me tell you. Finally I managed to pass the problem occurred, but now appeared to me another. I managed to i9100XWKDD_i9100XXKDH_i9100OXXKDC_HOME.TAR satrec error and install the phone.
All well and good SWITCH only lasted a lot, about 15 minutes after the restart after installation.
Once started I did a hard reset.
At the start I have seen a lot of lines written in red so a lot of errors.
Finally they did not want to restart my phone, I only appear GT-I9100 Samsung Galaxy SII and NO yellow triangle.
Did not want to do anything. After about 10 minutes I decided to try again with Odin. Now it's surprise, the ODIN not want to recognize my phone ..... can not do anything with phone ODIN!!
When the download get in step (volume down + home + power) Were it says "current binary: OFFICIAL SAMSUNG" is this a problem? Before there was writing "binary power: CUSTOM"
Unfortunately the PC does not recognize the phone when the USB stick, I say it's not recognized.
What can I do?
Can I do anything with it at home? Or should it go on it for service?
What would I be able to attempt to revive it?
Once again thank you in advance.

If its rooted then no warranty .
QUESTION
Can you get to either recovery mode or download mode .
Will ODIN show when in download mode and connected with Samsung usb cable a yellow connected bar top left .

@ JJEgan-thank you.
version is old, but was the only one who can get me to install the phone to ODIN.
in ODIN, is not left anything yellow, all fields are empty.
is strange that neither you put your PC does not recognize USB cable in, it says USB DEVICE is not recognized.
I am desperate.
Fault of phone or USB drivers on PC .
Guess its a part flashed firmware f888 up phone .

Hi!
It seems that the PC recognizes other devices when connected.
The only explanation is that something happened in the phone.
In order to reboot, I only appear in red script.
It seems only able to make phone to communicate with any PC.
The only way is to make micro SD card.
At the "Volume Up + HOME + POWER" gives me the opportunity to do reboot or update using the SD card.
Can anyone explain to me how to do? And we need that?
Thank you.

Hi, my phone model is GT-I9100 (unlocked)
This is exactly what happens when I try to update...
When I go to Software Update > Check for Update on the phone it says Firmware Update Required... the update will then download, phone will reboot and then there's an error message 'Update Failed try again using Kies".
So, when I connect my phone to Kies I get the message... "Your device does not support Software upgrading via Kies" And when I right click on my device name under 'Connected Devices' the 'Firmware Upgrade' option is greyed out (see pic below)
I've tried removing my sim card and memory card before reconnecting to Kies. I've done factory reset many times... I've uninstalled / reinstalled Kies many times... also on different computers not sure what else I can do now?

[Q] Error 402 when updating Galaxy S4

I am trying to install the Android 4.3 update released yesterday. I have a Galaxy S4 SCH-i545 (Verizon). The phone currently runs stock firmware and is not rooted. When I press install now, the phone reboots, looks like it is updating, than says error and restarts. A message pops up when the phone restarts stating the update failed due to error 402. I tried to update via Kies, but it says there is no available update in Kies, but my phone says the update is available. Please help me with this issue. I have a lot of data on the phone and I need my warranty to stay intact, so no Odin please.

Software Upgrade Assistant
Fixed mine! I was also getting the 402 error and the Verizon store had no idea what to do when soft resets didn't work. They told me to do a hard reset when I got home.
I connected to my pc with usb and in the popup (windows 8.1) I selected to install the software upgrade assistant. I ran the assistant and after 10min or so and a phone reboot it said update complete. After that I unplugged my phone from the pc and checked the software update on the phone. It said there was still an update to run so I downloaded and installed it in about 20min and it worked. Now it's up to date.
Hope this helps someone.

S3 only comes into download mode

Hi there! I sit now beaten four hours (or more :crying on a S3 from a friend because he only had the problem that his S3 is not started ( Freeze the Samsung logo). He was eager that I should remove it its unwanted root access. After research I managed the S3 HALF WAY up and running or that the phone started normally. Luckily CWM was installed on the device...
Well , later I have downloaded an original 4.3 Unbranded FW and flashed using Odion . ( Drivers and other stuff was already on it ) So far so good . There were no error messages or anything , but later it failed again at the Samsung screen. Desperately I still have a 4.2.2 FW (?) tries to flash as would go at first, but after about 5 minutes Odion did not load and I thought (?) : ' Hmm, nothing is happening so I just pull the USB cable '
Well, it looks like I repend this now, but do it right !
Now I get when I start the phone this error message:
' firmware upgrade Encountered an issue . please select recovery mode in kies & try again s3 '
Kies doesn't recognizes the S3 , so that falls ever completely gone and when I try to flash another FW ( Odion ) I get these error messages regardless of whether it is one part FW or three part FW...
(YES , Kies is getting away with Task Manager )
