Why will it break SD Card ??. We aren't partitioning it. Even partitioning it doesn't harm it.

It is already explained on the thread you just downloaded the franco ROM from.
Here it is:
franciscofranco said:
The zram module creates RAM based block devices: /dev/ramX (X = 0, 1, ...).
Pages written to these disks are compressed and stored in memory itself.
These disks allow very fast I/O and compression provides good amounts of
memory savings.
Basically is for storing swapped pages into compressed memory ram.

Maybe if you bothered reading the very first post on the franco thread then you would not have to ask such ridiculous questions.

Hehe... doktornotor has a point, though!
I've read these forums for 2 weeks before rooting/flashing etc., and the time it takes to create a new thread is the same time it takes to press SEARCH - "zram" and going through a few posts. There's quite a number of explanations, for techy to noob users.

yup ur rite!
well, you just waste the page of this thread by bashing the thread starter,
not all people is good and have been on the android for a long time,
the thread starter will not ask this if he knows the function of zram,
are you guys proof which shows person on xda are rude,
please be guided by the rules on this forum,
help the newbies, , dont bash them or make them shame,
now i shame on you guys
this might help,
Creates RAM based block devices: /dev/zramX (X = 0, 1, ...).
Pages written to these disks are compressed and stored in memory
itself. These disks allow very fast I/O and compression provides
good amounts of memory savings.
This is enhancement over existing ramzswap driver which creates
virtual block devices (/dev/ramzswapX) which could be used only
as swap disks.
Now, with the ability to handle any kind of I/O request, zram
devices have lot more use cases:
- /tmp storage
- various caches under /var
- swap disks
- maybe even more!

now look, they may be rude but they are right. i mean u will hear same thing on every forum in world, "use search", or google if u wish to learn more.
on the other hand, if u want to search instead of them, and answer any question that has answer 2 clicks away, knock yourself out.
sorry for offtopic
I think it is not a bad question, we all now basically what is it but I don't think many ppl know how it really works and why why didn't use it before.

I flashed zram on my phone but I don't see any differences, performance improvements, free ram? Do I need to do anythiing else?
Can someone explain me as simple as posibile what zram does.
Beside making a sd-ext partition and flash zram do I need to install another application?

Uh. If you are expecting more free RAM from this then you completely missed the bus. zram is using RAM to create a fast compressed swap space. Also, it has nothing to do with ext partitions on your SD card or whatever. Google for Linux swap to get a basic clue on what swapping is.
"If the system happens to need more memory resources or space, inactive pages in physical memory are then moved to the swap space therefore freeing up that physical memory for other uses."
is this something like paging file in windows?
how do I know if zram is working? my sd-ext partition is empty...
I apologize if I bother with my questions but I don't know where or what to search.

[Q] Free RAM

Hi i have just flashed a rom but i realised that the available RAM is rather low. Is there anything i can do to increase the RAM size of the rom :O thanks
Yes, make a hole in your head, get a camera and see if you got any brains. If you do you can go to the general section and make such idiotic question and see if anyone answers you. Have a nice day.

Franco is not wrong. FIRST, This shouldn't be in development section. Second, its a stupid question.
Optimus one ram is more than enough in all conditions. Maximum ram we need is while too much multi tasking, use of flash, browser using caches for surfing and large downloads.
In all these situations, our ram is more than enough. Many greater phones have even less ram.

How to prep a microSD memory card

New to Android and searched but found no answer.
Could someone please explain the best way to prep a memory card for the S3?
Do I need to format it (in a certain way, FAT32 or otherwise), create dedicated folders for the kind of contents or just dump everything in there?
Does the phone create the folders?
I have read conflicting info about whether the S3 supports 64GB cards. Someone please confirm.
On stock the phone will support 64gb cards formatted with fat32 or exfat, SOME custom kernels support both but some only support fat32, for now.
As far as folders go the phone creates the ones it needs.
Basically just stick it in and go from there, its a pretty pain free process!
You'll manage fine.
As far as I know they are already formatted as fat32.

Thank you for your help.
Does the phone create the folders as soon I insert the card the first time?
Sorry didn't buy one yet, hence all the questions, I would otherwise just stick it in and see what happens.

Dell Streak 5 Custom Internal Memory

Hi folks,
Based any some other threads on this forum, I've been reading about swapping the original 2GB internal card for a new 32GB card, and the one principal question I have is, does the new card have to be formatted first on a PC, or does one just plug it in 'raw' so to speak?
Thanks in advance.
you dont go straight for 32gb card without knowing anything... have more read first... take your time understanding.. no need to rush anything...

Using swap is the only way I've heard, I think after too much use it can burn out your sd card. I read that somewhere. Dunno if its true.

swap decreases the life of sd card...
but
here is my question,
how long you are gonna use your sd card ??
better the class, longer the life..
a class 8 sd card may have 7-8 years life...
swap will increase the r/w cyles and hence life decreases.. (may be by 1-2 years)
it's not like that you are gonna use your sd card for 5 damn years

Man if it keeps on working for even one year, i will be damn happy XD. But please tell me the final ans. Should i do this? Plz help me out.

If you really need this - you should calculate how much memory you need for your apps... you can try even with programs that making swap image on sd card. If you will see no difference than you may just delete this program. Other way to increase ram place is just to kill / uninstall apps thats are not needed and taking part of memory like autoupdates and synch.
This is the reason why i like bareboned roms.
