Hello Everyone
Sorry if this was posted before, but I'm planning on switching from Xperia Arc S to Xperia P
I was reading through online reports / reviews from here, CNET, Sony's official website.
and I'm kinda confused, I know it's for sure better than the Arc S but I was wondering is it really worth upgrading?!
The main reason for me to upgrade is to avoid the lags / freezes I'm getting on ICS even after removing bloatwares, adding build.prop values and running init.d scripts (unless there is something else I'm missing).
So what do you think guys is it worth the upgrade?! Are there any stupid lags or are the Dual-core CPU and 1GB RAM doing their job?!
Also is Sony WhiteMagic technology really helping users to see under strong light? I can barely see my Arc S screen when I'm not under a roof !!
What about GPU?! I read a while back that Adreno 205 (which is included in the Arc S) is better than Mali-400MP unless that fact is changed
Thanks in advance

Adreno 205 is way weaker than Mali-400. The fact that Galaxy S3 uses Mali-400 is enough. Adreno 220 or 225 could match Mali-400, but Adreno 205 can't.

WOW I didn't see that coming !! Thanks for pointing it out for me
What about the dual-core CPU?! is it doing it's job?! CNET Review made me somewhat confused :-/
Surely dual core means something no lags whatsoever for me on offial ICS

I'm sorry for all the questions but I still have more
I read here that unlocking the bootloader is not really recommended for Xperia P?
Well I did that for my Arc S so I can flash custom kernels and always be rooted, I can't stay without root or else I wouldn't be able to test a single thing of Droid Manager :-/
Or else I wouldn't care about rooting the phone since I don't flash themes nor mods, I like the OS the way it is
I go to Xperia P from Xperia Neo. Xperia P is fast enought and not need for custom ROMs! In games Xperia p is faster as Xperia Neo with overclocked CPU up to 1,8 ghz, for example, Dead space on Neo lag in scenes with monsters, but on Xperia P whole game go smooth!

Well I don't really care about overclocking since I rarely overclock my Arc S, besides, it's a dual core CPU for a smart phone OS I don't think there will be a need for overclocking taking in consideration that I only play Temple Run, Unblock me when I'm board . I was just somewhat afraid from not finding it's performance smooth enough, but after all the feedbacks I got I think I'm gonna head for one in the next couple of days
it has good performance for a phone, it's beautiful, and with official ICS you have extended standby mode that can make your phone live some more days, I mean with "normal" phone use you can stay up to 2days more, so you charge it every 3 days, maybe 4 if you don't use it, that's quite good, IMO it's the perfect phone because of the price and it's 4' screen (above it's too large for me)
About the whitemagic tech, it's really good. Even when the sun shines on the screen I can see it. And not only barely see it like with the iphone 4 or the x10, it is really bright! I would dare to say that it's the brightest screen on the market for now. Else the phone is really smooth, does not lag, only right after boot for me, cuz I added a huge load of widgets. I scroll once through the homescreens and it's gone
That's exactly what I needed to know
Thanks guys for your feedbacks
Ok I haven't yet got the Xperia P
but I was reading online and I found it has Bluetooth 3?! and "Has a Corning® Gorilla® Glass display" ?! is that true?!

No, Bluetooth 2.1 and a hardened glass display that is produced by Sony in-house.
Thank u guys for your recommendations I got the phone.and.its amazing
Oneast question what will I lose if I unlock the bootloader?! On Arc S I only lost TrackId, what about facebook inside Xperia and other Sony extras?!

Actually, GS 3 is not as same the GPU as XPERIA P, because GS3 used Mali 400 MP4, U8500 used Mali 400 MP1...
Mali 400 MP1 is far weaker than Mali 400 MP4, and also weaker than Adreno 205...

ok, I'm lost now. I recall reading about Mali 400 on both Xperia P and the S III Specification on some website (I can't recall which one), the website shows they are the same. sooo ?!

brightest screen is LG with 700 nits .. i saw xperia p and was like : what a single core chipset it uses !? i tested and i suggest u do it too
really laggy with some launcher with effects .. in gingerbread . really disappointing . what a good point of using beautiful phone with ow horse power . seems it has 800 mg CPU . so many ppl confirm this .

they are not same clocked GPU man ... xperia p has long way to see power of malii 400 .
Xperia p isn't really laggy I own it, didn't just touch it in a shop for 5mins

Hi everyone , I have a question are there any new drivers for aderno for x10i ? actually i have Wolfbreak Xperia DooMKernel and i Antutu benchmark shows score in 2D - 219 in 3D - 226 ;/ my old x8 shows better score, whats wrong? which have best performance?

Yeah , x8 is a little better in 2D ,3D tests because of lower LCD resolution comparing to x10
If you're on an ics rom you can install new qualcomm libs, it increased my 2d score two times higher & 3d score increased about 5 percent
Tip: update your antutu app cause whole scoring system has been changed

thanks i have the lastest version of antutu , but maybe i change rom

I have been musing over this for some time.
I have an XPERIA X10i using Standard GB 2.3.3, DooMKernel v6 (O/C 1113-1152MHz) and an XPERIA S feature pack.
With a heavily tweaked build.prop with hardware acceleration set. video.accelerate.hw=1 etc, etc.
My X10i GB 2.3.3 AnTuTu v3.0.3 gives:
2D Graphics: 236
3D Graphics: 469
NenaMark2: 8.4fps
Epic Citadel Benchmark: 11.2fps @854x480 on performance
Yes, it wouldn't really be playable on an XPERIA X10i but the benchmark does have it's uses given the graphics environment
and besides, it looks pretty while benchmarking even with the major lag/freezes... .
My X10i JB 4.1.2 AnTuTu v3.0.3 gives:
2D Graphics: 265
3D Graphics: 764
NenaMark2: 11fps
Epic Citadel Benchmark: ????
Now the Jelly Bean v4.1.2 Graphics figures imply a marked improvement and one would expect this to translate into improvements in video and gaming. However this is not the case for the video tests I have done, as I have not been able to enable HW acceleration using BSPlayer and/or MX Player Pro in the Jelly Bean build(s) I have tested.
Viewing a 720p mkv video in JB 4.1.2 on an XPERIA X10i lags terribly and only uses SW encoding.
If I understand this correctly, this means writing a new set of Adreno 200 GPU drivers (please correct me if I'm wrong)
This may be beyond the scope of developers based on time, effort and benefits/return when there are other/bigger fish to fry.
At the moment on GB 2.3.3, I can watch a 720p mkv 6ch (approx 25fps) movie streamed from my NAS with HW/HW+ acceleration without problems and only the VERY slightest lag every now and then... sometimes not at all.. Push that out to 1080i/1080p and it hangs or resets the video player or just doesn't play
So with the information and current knowledge I have, I seem to be restricted to GB 2.3.3 for GPU HW support and watching videos/TV at 720p.
If we could get HW acceleration working with JB 4.1.2 on an XPERIA X10i.. well, I'd go off like a frog in a sock
With 'ICS ROM' on an X10i, does that give us GPU HW acceleration with the Adreno 200????????
Or are we just falling back on SW encoding???
Update: I just found this bit of info which does imply there is HW acceleration available with the Adreno 200 ICS ROM ... somewhere.
Forums - QSD 8250, Adreno 200 hardware-related proprietary libraries for hardware graphics acceleration
There is also reference to JB 4.1 in the Adreno 2xx driver sections, so this does bode well for JB 4.1 development on the XPERIA X10i... one hopes.
Hardware coding/decoding doesn't work on ics ,job that's why video recording , or video playback is lagging or even not working.
Qualcomm should release the source codes for ics,jb . They didn't released it & I don't think they will release in future.
-3D & 2D works & is accelerated in ics ,thats the reason of higher benchmark results

Is it now worth to exchange my mini with a HTC HD2 (Leo)
I know its a legendary device and all the achievements developers have made
But I am just confused because of the development of the 3.0 Kernel for our devices.
And I XDA-ed and found out that there is no 3.0 being developed for the HD2.
So,Generally asking ..
Is it worth the money now ? And how is the HD2 performing in comparison with the Mini ?
Anyone ? (Bump)
Hi i read something about htc hd2 and this phone have older gpu(adreno 200) and processor QSD8250B S1(1ghz).Xperia mini have gpu andreno 205 and cpu QSD8255 S2(1ghz) wchich is better and faster than the old QSD8250.So now you can see that XM is better than htc hd2(in my opinion). That will help.
Thanx bro you helped a lil bit , but is the 3.0 kernel that much important ?
Will it bring the much more battery life and Speed ?
And I guess theres not much of a difference between adreno 200 and 205 ! Correct me if I am wrong .
No,you are wrong. The old adreno 200 is much worse than adreno 205.Adreno 205 is better and faster than adreno 200.The 3.0.x kernel can give us better performance,oc,stabilitity and a lot of others. So wait you will not be disappointed.
Just checked the qualcomm website and it seems you are correct
Twice the performance as the 200 !
Moderators, please close/hide/delete this thread, as we have to create new one in the future, this just breaking some rules, thanks to wedgess for information.

Is it possible to get say Extreme with 420p recording? I know it would lose some of its RAM... just curious. The thoguht of 8mb vram and gpu OC to 260mhz sounds appealing to me. But I would like to have 420p camera. If not I totally understand. Just curious is all

eventually there will be but for now I'm polishing off gingerbread
i m only posting here cause of this: is really safe OC at 2.3ghz? i have a feeling many chips gonna be burned..as Doomlord himself said on Doomkernel thread, its more safe using cpu near to default..and he doesnt recommend using cpu above 1.6..wedgess and cosmic dan same opinions..so i think it would be good for all, a release with a bit more juice on GPU..mostly on ICS we need a boost. on GB with adrenobooster we already have an amazing result on roms and daily use. 1ghz--»2.3 seems..xtreme.
just my 2 cents beeing carefull..anyway great work, highly appreciated..and a little question: are JB kernel being thought?:good:
That was Justin's decision - you can always flash Extreme version and use 1.6GHz frequency . If you want my opinion about this, check DiXperia thread where I post my few words of using right frequency with right profile etc.
For example, my XPlay could reach 1.9GHz max, sometimes 2.0, but never more. Some devices, like Justin's Play, working on 2.3GHz better than 2.1, cause of voltages for each frequency .
i totally agree with you..but cutting a bit more frequencies it would not be bad at all..i ve said that on other thread, as i has a xtreme OC on desktop pc..i always be carefull, cause some chips yeh..they handle it..in same cpu/gpu series, same can do it nicely (always short time using) others cant..on long term result they might cause some graphics glithces, cpu faulty and so on..but it always depend on users choice to OC or not, cause a phone doesnt have a refrigeration system as pc can have to reduce temperatures and avoid burning chip.
More than the CPU, the GPU overclock seems really unsafe: doom has tried it still 2 years ago into one version of his kernel (I don't remember which release) and it only gives problem (if I remember correct one guy hasd his play death after some test), maybe is better to ask to doom some more information (he is busy with other devices but I think that he would reply with some more details)

Ha i don't know it either
Hi folks
I was curious are there any driver updates for the device itself ? coz Adreno330 is very common graphic chip in Z2s rank. (like when i had nexus 4 there was a new graphics driver...)
Anyway to overclock the GPU ?
Are there an notable mod ports etc other than X-Reality ?
What is Viper4Android ? How can i install and config it for Z2 ? Is there any pre-configured flashable ?
What other sound mods are there to increase volume with least quality decrease ?
147 views yet no reply ?
what a great community, WHERE is everyone ?
I think there's very small interest in overclocking the gpu .
Also cpu oc is pretty useless since z2 cpu is 2.3ghz fast , a 2.7 would not make a noticeable difference but will heat and drain battery more .
I preffer undervolting and running stock freqs for a better battery life and lower temps .
