So the 1 year manufacturer warranty was about to expire and decided to send my evo 3D to the HTC repair center because of a loose charging port and overheating issues. To make the story short, its been two weeks and they can't find it, the delivery confirmation shows it was received, so now they're investigating what happened to it and if they can't find it they'll replace it, or at least that's what I was told, has anything similar happened to anyone else?

At least you have an Evo Design to back it up, which isn't a bad phone.
ramjet73
The good news is that they actually received it, so it's their fault. If they didn't receive it, YOU would have to deal with the shipping company, which is an absolute hassle.
But anyway, since they lost it, demand they give you a brand new phone.
Just sent in my phone, can't decide if I am hoping they lose it or not.
The glue on the left side of my bezel started to come off and I sent it in hoping to just get that fixed. But I had hacked my phone. I just hope that they realize its hardware related and just fix it and forget about me hacking my phone...
Back on topic, if they lost your phone, I would demand a new phone at the very least. If not I would want a EVO LTE.

yes happened to me before when i sent in my n1 for repairs. the postal service did show that it got delivered to HTC. i kept on calling them every 3-4 days for like 3 weeks non-stop. eventually, they admitted it was lost in their facility so they sent me a new unit.
hope this helps
Yeah I was hoping for a new phone too but I've just got a call from htc and they've found my phone. Apparently they received the package but didn't scan it in, so now it's in repairs, oh well

So after getting my screen replaced and the store borked my camera and couldn't fix it they ordered me a replacement phone. I got it yesterday and 2 of the softkeys don't light up. So I call sprint to let them know so they can send another phone and they tell me i have to go to a repair store first so the store can order the phone. I told them i shouldn't need to take my own time and gas to go to a store because they sent me a defective phone. The rep agreed and is trying to get approval to send me a phone. Am I right or should I just go to a store? Has any one else had this problem?

Hell no man youre right. Why you got to spend your money for their mess up. If they want your business they need to do their end and give you a working device if thats what they said they were going to do.
I agree but theyre making it a pain in the ass. I'll hold out for them i think
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
ya i would try and do it that way but wouldn't spend too much time arguing.
Agreed
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
It's a pain in the ass, however that's their policy. From their perspective, they would be wasting money if they just sent out phones to people without actually looking at them first to verify the problem. I went through the same thing with my original Evo, had 7 replacements, all had some sort of problem, and every one I had to take into the store so they could look at it.
This is why i buy from best buy. Anything is messed up, break it. $10 a month, unlimited replacements. Got my replacement in 3 days. No questions asked, took 10 minutes to get the replacement process going.
I guess ill go to a store tomorrow. I understand wanting to verify the defect but its still b.s. Defective refurbished phone right out of the box shouldn't be my problem. That's why I hate refurbs. Oh yea, and the lady I talked to today said ' let's go ahead and do a factory reset'. I told her that its always the first thing I do when I open a new phone, and this is a hardware issue not software. It made me chuckle a little.

btdt, Sprint replaced my wife's 3D, two bad soft keys, had to go to a repair store, they happened to have a replacement, so we didn't have to wait.
Sent from my HAL 9000 3D
I ordered a replacement because I have dust under the screen and the digitizer was acting up. Received a refurb in a day. Back cover was messed up, one of the lights was dim and didn't have a power button. Called Sprint and told them that I was sending it back, they said they would send another one out but expect to wait 1-2 weeks. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago. Honestly, when/if I get it, I'll probably just send it back. Have heard anything good about refurbs. Guess I can live with a little dust under my screen.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Good day, the issue isn't with the refurbs per se. I got a 3D on launch day, 2 months later had to replace it and am still on the "refurb" Sprint sent. It has to do with the original issue, based on this is what gets refurb'ed, new housing and on its way. After a POST (power on self test). The service & repair locations are limited to what can be done. I'm a repair technician and do anything but repair most of the time. We're no longer allowed to solder anything, parts allocation is horrendous and to top things off we have at best 2 hours to try to duplicate the issue. Sorry for venting guys, I hear this all day, every day. I didn't refurb it myself and if it left our doors I have to disassemble and inspect, also there's 3-6 phones queued up. Most stores have 3 techs to cover a 7day work week and indirect dealers (I work for one) have only 1, working open to close 6 days a week.
Had to get my first refurbished replacement a couple weeks ago. It was garbage. Kept freezing and restarting. Did several factory resets from bootloader, and it didn't fix it. Asked for another one. Got it in the mail, ordered my EVO 4G LTE, and now my refurbished EVO 3D is on Craigslist. I'm done with it.
I'm close to that point too.

Same here. I canceled insurance long ago. Had to have my original EVO replaced once due to bad usb port. $35 and I was on my way. The only phone I ever had to replace on a constant basis was the touch pro..that thing was ****. That was the last phone I insured.

Well...2 days ago my EVO LTE died. I recieved a text, went to check it, screen would not turn on although the green notification light was blinking. Tried all the different combos of holding power/volume up/down etc. Nothing worked...phone wouldn't charge when plugged in. Took it to Sprint repair center and they said it was a dead. They said they had to order a replacement...gave me a loner phone the next day which was an ancient LG Rumor 2. Rep took about 30 minutes tinkering with the phone and couldn't make a call out. He assured me it would work within an hour. It was already about 7ish. 2 hours later phone doesn't work. I call Sprint tech support and they can't do anything and that the phone is on back order also.
Two things...I ordered this phone through wirefly, does this matter to Sprint? I have insurance with Sprint. Can I demand a new phone right away? I use the EVO for my business e-mails and personal also. Looks like I'm going to be without it for awhile.

Sounds like a slam dunk to me. Go to local Sprint store that does repairs. They will have one in stock. You pay the insurance for a reason. As long as you have the Sprint insurance it doesn't matter where you bought it. Good luck.
Though on backorder ours have been arriving within 48 hours.
There is nothing in TEP that states one is entitled to a new phone right away, nor a brand new one.
Sometimes talking with the manager might help but if they had a loaner available it already sounds like they went above and beyond...typically loaner phones are not given out

Thanks for the replies guys. I spoke to the manager and explained to him the situation. He said he would have a new phone later today. I'm just glad to have my phone back. Almost 3 days with only a work phone sucks.

I had six OG Evo's, and never once did I pay anything through the authorized repair center. After the third time, they no-longer even took my ticket number from Sprint. They just took the phone and swapped it with another one, with no paperwork. I am have Black Tie through BB and I'm on my third LTE, and I cannot complain. The BB Mobile store gave me a bunch of crap about sending it back, etc., so I went to the main store and they swapped it out with a brand new one right there.

Dropped mine on it's face yesterday. Took it to 3 different stores asking for a repair, no one could do it. They said they wouldn't even touch it, and that I had to file a claim through Asurion. So I did, and will be receiving a replacement on Tuesday. I had to pay a deductible, but it was only $100 (was expecting $150). So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a brand new one, and not a refurbished. I usually get mad when I get a refurb as a replacement when it's not something that I did to it, but this time I dropped it and broke it. I've NEVER dropped a phone before, and sure enough, I've dropped this one twice (once in a parking lot and the one that killed it on hardwood floors). I'll report what I get Tuesday when it comes in. At least if it's new, and it's not updated, I'll definitely be rooting that one while I'm on my trip for work.
By the way, can anyone who's received a recent replacement tell me if you've received a refurbished model or a brand new one in the box?

So for a phone to be fixed under manufacturer's warranty, it must be in immaculate condition and show absolutely no sign of everyday wear and tear. Right...
Did you pack it well enough? Well, either way there's no recourse now since you don't have pictures of pre-shipment. For all you know, that tech who took the pics could have dropped it! Should just get it back and repair it yourself now (unless you have TEP).

HTC warranty repair seems pretty bad to me thus far. I sent mine in for a yellow tint on the bottom of the screen + screen rippling. 3 Sprint stores had told me that they do not cover that, and 4 phone calls to Sprint customer support yielded the same answer. I figured switching back to my Hero for a week or two would be okay, but HTC shipped the phone back with the exact same issues. They had even told me they replaced the screen + bezel.
I had to ship it back to them at my own expense to get them to look at it again. Hopefully when I get it back it will actually be fixed this time, but I won't hold my breath.

At that point I would purposely damage the phone in a way that would look like it's HTC's fault. I've done this with ****ty warranties before.
I sent mine in because of a dead section on the screen. I got it back and now when I slide my finger on it for scrolling pages, playing games, etc it skips around all jittery.
It's great!
Grrr
Lesson learned, always take pictures of defective device before shipping. Send them through email to HTC as attachments, hell print then out mail then to yourself, keep unopened package of uncompromised pictures in a sealed postmarked envelope if you have to, damn....
I had a good experience with their warranty. I bricked my lte but knew they had the tools to flash the correct files (I could even see the device at least being recognized in Linux)
Fixed it and sent it back within 5 days.
Sucks about the damage. If only pictures had been taken before.

Hey I had this exact scenario happen after they fixed my screen. I am not sure if this is what causes it but when I looked at the firmware it didn't match the hboot or radios. Well I recently experienced a "deadzone" on the right side of my screen, making certain things near impossible to do on my ThunderBolt. I looked up and supposedly this phone comes with a manufacturer's warranty of 2 years. This phone was released on March 17, 2011. Which means that as of today, that still puts me in the warranty.
Since it's discontinued, would I get a different phone as a replacement? Do I have to go to Verizon, or call HTC (since it's a manufacturer's warranty)?
Has anyone done this?

You will have to go through HTC for warranty purposes.
Verizon deals with Insurance claims, but not manufacturer warranty.
They will likely have you ship that one off to be "repaired" where they may do just that or they would send you a different re-manufactured one.
They typically have you go through PCD for the actual warranty repairs.

I did this when part of my screen died. I unrooted using a guide in this forum, verified it appeared to be unrooted and back to stock, then took it in and they shipped it in and I got a new one in the mail in a couple days. I don't know that you HAVE to unroot, but it's not a bad idea just in case, since everyone SAYS rooting voids your warranty, and you don't want an unexpected headache if they send your broken one back and try to charge you for the replacement.

Just because it's no longer being manufactured doesn't mean they don't have a pile of refurbs in stock, so I think you're set as long you're within the warranty period.
And don't go thinking you're special just because you've been loyal! I felt just a little insulted when I got a (free) text message telling me I was allowed to come in and buy a new (not free) phone and pay the $30 additional charge for the privelege of renewing my contract and thereby losing my unlimited data plan. I use 10GB+ a month; my next phone is coming off eBay.
After 2 months of taking great care of my "naked" G2, it fell 3 feet off my nightstand onto the wood floor and shattered. The bottom part of the screen doesn't appear to work, which means I can't even enter my unlock code (swipe). I've submitted for a replacement with Asurion, but apparently they're on backorder and don't know when they will have any in stock...
I was under the impression they replace phones with new ones if they don't have refurb's in stock. I guess not anymore...
Anyone else replace their G2 with Asurion?

The bottom part of the screen doesn't appear to work, which means I can't even enter my unlock code (swipe). I've submitted for a replacement with Asurion, but apparently they're on backorder and don't know when they will have any in stock...
I was under the impression they replace phones with new ones if they don't have refurb's in stock. I guess not anymore...
Anyone else replace their G2 with Asurion?

They should replace it with a new 1 if they don't have it in stock.
Try calling them again and see if you can get help from someone else.

Thanks for the tip - just called back. Apparently they have nothing in stock, are awaiting new G2's, and will notify me when they have a new one.
Although the same guy said that they don't give out refurbished phones, just new ones, so I don't know what to believe....

If they have a reconditioned device they will send those.
If they don't have reconditioned then they will send new 1's.
Unless they are out of stock completely. Which you will then have to wait until they have 1 or the other.

You could probably get them to give you a different device also. I believe they are obligated to provide a replacement device within 72 hours. I will look into where I read that before.

Yes. If they don't have any reconditioned or new then they can send you a comparable model.

This is how I got my G2. Bought it on craigslist from some guy who broke the screen for $100. $99 deductible with Asurion and they sent me a brand spaking new G2 for $200 total (kept my verizon unlimited plan). I just sent the old broken one in, so maybe you'll be in luck
Hooray for insurance fraud! Oh wait.....

Okay I was going to start a thread about this a few days ago but I didnt get around to it. My screen broke last week from a short fall and I went to verizon because my fiance was upgrading. Anyway, there were 2 people there at the counter who where complaining about this because they had filed a claim on their broken G2 screen and both of them told me they were gonna be on back order till around January or February....yeah im just as frustrated and the only replacements they might send is a Droid Max or MotoX. So the best solution Verizon is doing for this right now is sending in an order for a temp flip phone for our broken device till the devices can be replaced...but youll still be charged $20 a month for being a smartphone plan even though you currently dont have one. This sucks...
Edit: Here use this, download it from your computer and install it to your phone remotely so you can rotate your screen around if your having problems with half your screen like me. It might hold you over for a month or so longer.

C. Replacement equipment may, at our option, be refurbished equipment or different equipment of like kind and quality.
Just remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. cause a ruckus with both the insurance company and the carriers, their is no reason for the back order and demand a phone with the same specs or better.
curious as to why your going through asurion when its a year warranty on the phone

I dropped mine on the freeway, i forgot it on top of my car and drove off lol. My screen cracked and it will not register my fingers to unlock also.I sent it into LG for repairs, it was 142 total. Plus my 10 dollar to ship it to LG facilities in texas. I'm getting it back by Saturday, says Fedex. I shipped it to them and they received it on November 22nd.. so about two weeks turn around.
I broke mine and called them. They told me to buy one and I'd get a reimburse check minus the deductible in a few weeks.

So after speaking to Asurion yesterday and being told they have no idea when there will be more G2's in, I got an email from them last night that they have my phone ready to ship. Their web site was screwed up and not letting me continue, so I called and gave them the address and credit card info. The phone is out for delivery today....Damn.
@ Walter21026: Thanks for the tip. Tried installing from Google Play's website, not sure if it installed or not. Still shows lockscreen. Truth is, most of the touchscreen now seems to be useless. Thanks anyways.
@ antawnm26: I dropped the phone and cracked the screen. AFAIK, warranty is if something is defective, not if I am at fault for the screen being shattered.

Great questions!
We'd love to clear up the confusion for you. Our goal is to get you reconnected as quickly as possible by providing a like-for-like replacement. We do use both new and remanufactured phones in order to provide this service. Rest assured, all of our remanufactured phones use 100% OEM parts and come with a 12-month limited warranty. Your device will be replaced at no charge if it has a warranty failure during that time period. While we do operate from a separate set of inventory from your local store; like them, our inventory constantly changes. In the event your device is unavailable at the time of your claim, we will discuss the options available to you at that time.
We understand you have already been in contact with us regarding your claim. We welcome you to track the status of your claim at www.phoneclaim.com. We are also more than happy to assist you via email at [email protected].

The white LG G2 on verizon seems to be still back ordered, with no ETA. Local verizon stores said they are out of stock as well. Not sure when they are coming back.
