This method should work with a virgin mobile version but you should flash a sprint rom to enable diag mode.
Basically I zeroed my msl then did a master reset using ##RTN# the msl went back to what it was originally but msl reader couldn't read it. Cdma workshop costs 100 dollars but I'm not gonna pay that to flash one phone to verizon (well like six now). I had already used this and it worked great so tried it again. Still worked good.

Don't misread what I wrote. It worked originally for me but after I zeroed it out and did a reset msl reader didn't work for me. Don't know why it just didn't. Plus that's just the story behind the tutorial. I'm just offering an alternative open source guide to reading your msl.

How's your Data on the 3D on Verizon PrePaid? You get 3G that is connected all the time? & don't drop? I've been thinking about going over to Vzw PrePaid & piggy backing my Flashed Mifi off my account so I don't have to pay 2 bills.

I'm in central florida area and it's really good (1.5 -2.5 mb download) it doesn't drop ever. I use a evo 4g lte and it's just as fast as a friends iphone 4s on at&t sometimes faster.

it can be done, but as of right now as far as I know, there is no way to get the msl/spc code unless the phone is active. or you can pay someone get the code for you. Once you get the code you can then put the device in diag mode and flash a new prl for the carrier you want to use. I have flashed many phones to cricket and the photon can be flashed.

Could this method work to flash my Photon over to cdma boost?
So far people are telling me I can't flash it, but the iFix store in the mall says I can flash to boost or metro. Please enlighten me. They said they charge 50. Is it possible and well I get 4g or anything? If so also, which company should I go for?

yes you can flash it with other carries i have mine working in IUSACELL (México), and i have 3g working too you just got to rewrite some nv items so the data configuration can be saved. You need your msl code in order to program it with cdma workshop
I have no idea how to do that I would have a company in the mall called Ifix flash it for me, just not sure which company would be best in Florida on the gulf coast. Metro, boost, cricket, simple mobile. Or if they can unlock the gsm portion?
I have my photon fully flashed to cricket, I paid someone $35 for it, took them like 5 hours but its working perfectly.

I should be able to get internet working on it, and maybe mms.

I can flash it for you, I have flashed my bros to cricket. the phone does not need to be active there is a method to get he MSL.. IF you are in the philadelphia area I can flash for you. I only charge 35 $

Photon to Boost or Virgin Mobile
I'm also interested in finding out if a Photon can be flashed to Boost or Virgin Mobile. My Photon has a bad esn because I didn't pay the bill. I just read on Cnet Sprint is giving WiMax to Boost and Virgin Mobile (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...to-bring-wimax-to-boost-mobile-virgin-mobile/) which makes my Photon valuable to me again. Are there any updates on this subject? I have searched the net for cdma flashing software and it's a tad expensive and complicated (for me). Plus, I like to flash rom's and themes so I don't want to end up having to re-flash because of a ROM I used.
I had posted this elsewhere but here's what you guys need to know before proceeding.
To clear things up and put this to rest, here's some things you need to know about putting the Sprint Photon on other carriers.
Will not work on GSM in the United States
May work on Boost (requires you change/clone the ESN, illegal)
May work on Virgin (requires you change/clone the ESN, illegal)
Any method that requires you change or clone the ESN is illegal
May work on Cricket (Expect 4G to not work and expect it to take a while to get it to work right. grey area)
May work on other smaller CDMA carriers like Alaska Communications (see notes on moving to Cricket)
Both Boost and Virgin are subsidiaries of Sprint and flashing to them requires breaking some laws at a Federal level.
Your best and legal option is to leave CDMA altogether. If you are pleased with the Photon then getting a good condition used Motorola Atrix and having it unlocked for international service would be you best bet. You may still run into issues where certain features like data may not work with certain providers. I have been told by others that have done it that on the Atrix it's simply having the right APN settings.
Discussion of this nature tends to be frowned upon by the moderators due to the legality of the subject so don't be surprised if the thread gets closed.

Im not too good with touch screen phones yet. I just got one through sprint and got an account its a motorola photon. My first question can I switch and flash over my phone from sprint to metro? Second questions will i still get the internet? Third question does anything need to be done before hand such as example: account must be 0 balance. What would I need to flash? Is it hard to flash it? Can you explain in detail how to flash it. I just got an account and phone with sprint but when i seen the bill per month after i got home and baught the phone I was mad! If you can us WiFi for most of your Data. ting (dot) com is the way to go. No flashing.
You just pay for what you get.

Your phones bootloader is locked. All most impossible to change.
If your off contract you can switch your Photon to ting real easy.
Ting is cheap if you don't use cell data , use WiFi were you can find it.

Expo Mobile will activate sprint devices without flashing. I am on their $35 unlimited talk, unlimited international text, and 500mb LTE data. Everything seems to be going good.
Google voice call forwarding does not work but the app does. People can call your Google voice number and it will still ring your phone. You can still make out going calls and it will display your Google voice number. What doesn't work is if someone calls your original cellphone number and it rings 6 times it will not forward to Google voice.
Sprint Voicemail app works.
4G LTE works great and i get 10-15mbps just about everywhere I go. Expo also has 24/7 customer care, most prepaids are closed after 10pm.
If you have a bad ESN this will not work the only other option you would have is either cricket or page plus and you will only get 3G data. Small price to pay with having a bad ESN.
Ting is very good too if you need google voice to work. I herd that they support it.

I was able to successfully activate my time warner usb dongle on the clear network but it requires the clear manager software to connect (time warner also invested in Clear to gain access to wimax 4g)

ou will not be able to get any further without doing these next steps. Clear will not just magically connect once your plan is active. You will need to find your MSL code. You can call sprint and ask, but if your like me with a bad esn, calling is not an option. So go to the app store and download “MSL Reader”. Go through the install and granting permissions and then run it to find your MSL number. It is 6 digits for me and probably the same for you as well. Write that # down.
Go to your phone and dial in ##3282# and click “Edit mode”. It will ask you for the password, that is the number you just wrote down. Once entered click OK then go down and click “WiMax”. Now go down to “realm” and change it from Sprint.com to Clearwire-wmx.net and click ok. Now press the main menu button and choose to “Commit Modifications”. Your phone will reboot.

Why don't you just buy a hotspot? Then you can use it with multiple devices.
Can you edit your original and tag with [Q] until this is [SOLVED]? I came into this thread hoping for a cheap unlimited solution and found nothing but questions

Agreed. My Evo 4G has a hotspot feature, and that's how I do it.
Follow the directions, and when it says to dial ##3282#, go to your calculator and dial !!3282!, then press =, and you should get the same popup. Note: You get the option to type ! in only if you're in landscape.

this is exactly how to do it .....once you change the realm then go to the browser make sure 4g is selected then it will take you to a clear page simply log into your account and it will ask to activate the current device select yes and it will work...on your account in the clear website your view will look like a usb device no matter it will work fine i have mine setup like so...i also have the sprint 1 gig plan for 3g backup in case 4g is not available but i'm going to end that and just connect it to boost mobile for unlimited 3g i have the clear two device plan so one is a hotspot the other was a usb dongle thats the one i took off and replaced with my view....works great....it can be done just have to follow directions and tweak it.....good luck

I've searched and dl stuff to try and get MSL for 1hr now with no luck.
I dL and ran the app in instructions (MSL Reader), but it says it only works for cdma phones.
I haven't had sprint service since 1997. guess im going to start a new thread since MSL is kinda separate and no threads with msl in title are showing in my search of this forum.

It doesn't work for my HTC Evo View 4g. that or my superuser is defective or something. It says only works for CDMA phones. I've been trying to get this damn MSL since January! I'm about to just sign up for sprint service, get msl and then cancel (at a cost of $55). It would be great if a cell store could do it for less. is that possible?

I've never tried on my view. Only on my Evo. Yeah the only other way I've heard of is calling the sprint people. Good luck!

I called a few days later to cancel the service because I mainly wanted to see if this ACTUALLY worked, and they offered me uncapped dl and 1.5M upload for $24.99/ mo - deal accepted, now if I can only figure out how to get a working wireless tether...

ya they offered me that when I canceled my dongle after I got evoview onto clear.
ONLY for 3 months though. then back to full price.
I also am in the market for a solid wireless hotspot app for the view4g
Oh, and I ended up going to sprint with aaa card waive activation fee and california cancel within 14 days get out of contract. Got my msl, and with that sucessfully ended up getting clear $35 unlimited internet on the view4g
No longer supported.

You might want to say that you only need CDMAWS if you want to change your MSL, although since it is so easy to get the MSL with MSL Reader, you can probably skip that part. Great writeup though. Ive done a Moment and Vitality to PagePlus and the guide is the same, so this is an almost universal Guide.
On a side note: For the Moment and Vitality, MSL Reader does not work, I had to get the MSL by using getprop ril.MSL in Terminal.

Well I mentioned MSL Reader because its easier to use for new comers and it only works on the HTC phones which is what I'm flashing in this guide. If you use CMDAWS you just go to the security tab and under SPC click the drop down box and pick HTC Method. Then click read. Phone must be in DIAG mode though.
Any how I'll be making more guides. I can flash damn near any phone to any company except the Stratosphere.
Dial ##000000# and click edit mode.
Click MDN and enter your phone number, Press OK
Click on MSID/MIN and enter it if you know it, If not call your provider and ask them for it.
Press Menu and Commit Modifications (Phone may reboot)

How are 3g speeds on page plus? Just curious I have mine on metro atm and have been thinking about going to boost or here if speeds are decent enough.

In the very first tab with all the phone info. Should be right on top. It is probably labeled mdn and min. If that's what there labeled mdn will be your phone number and min will be msid or mobile identification number (sorry been a while since I used cdma workshop). Qpst doesn't have the option to change phone number itself. It will only allow you to change it for your data profiles. ##000000# or your six digit msl code will accomplish this step for you also.

Ok cool. another thingm I get an error during the last part where I write to the phone in QPST.
The error says NV_UE_IMEI_I (Status) NV_READONLY_S
Disregard that error it doesn't mean anything. You can actually check that box to not notify u of that again if it bothers you.
Let me know how this goes for you and do a speedtest for me if you can. My metro bill is due in a few days if speeds are good I will be making the switch.

The 3G speeds are very good. Remember this one thing PP uses VZW towers. Actually when I flash the Thunderbolts they get 1x and the 1x is pretty damned fast.
Have you flashed any EVO3Ds to Verizon? Assuming the ESN is accepted by Verizon's network of course.

I've heard that Verizon phones get way better speeds on pp than sprint phones. I'm sure its probably just due to lack of provisioning on the parts of places that flash them. I definatly am intersted in tinkering with this. If someone with a EVO 3d on page plus or any sprint phone could do a speed test that would be great. Being on verizon network it should be at least 1mbps and up depending on area. Only reason I ask is cause u can get around 1mbps on boost witout any limit on data. But I don't use much mobile data but When I do I wouldn't mind it being fast. I could probably get away with the 1gb cap.
Just really wanna know the speeds.

Thats not entirely true. Almost all Sprint phone get 3G while most VZW phones only get 1x.

Any phone can be flashed to PP and yes I have flashed the 3D numerous times to PP. I just got done doing one. When activating phones on PP always use the ESN(HEX) not the DEC because its too many characters. All Sprint phones that I have flashed always have a 14 character ESN(HEX) which is what you need for PP. If your ESN has 15 characters then drop off the last one digit. It will still activate without the last digit. Speaking of which the Thunderbolt is one that I know of that you have to drop the last digit on. Only one I can remember lol.

Tried to use cdma workshop to get msl from phone using ##diag# after msl reader from market failed. Got drivers and everything set up fine and pc recognizes phone is there as HTC modem and all. I'm getting failed to read device. Thinking it is something to do with phone but idk. Has anyone gotten it to work or is there another way to get msl besides asking sprint? What I'm really trying to do is boost speaker volumes like we used to do with OG4G. Following that thread everything was goin fine until unable to read device...

I used another program to get the msl. I can't remember the name but ill post it when I get home. It's a free program.

And if MSL reader doesn't work the first time, uninstall and reinstall it and try again, no idea why it would work the second time, but it did.
Is there anyway to brick 3g/4g?
Was switching ROMS and all of a sudden connection just died. I doubt its the towers around here. Ive heard nothing about it.I have tried going back to stock and im still not getting any service. cant update prl or profile.

if your not on a sense rom you won't be able to update prl and profife as far as I know
Try reprovisioning the phone ##72786# password is msl

I was trying that except there are no letters except for W and P. Just numbers and other junk.

No, its your MSL code. The one you get from running MSL Reader if you have root. Just put that code in after ##72786# prompts you for it.

yea stupid me realized after I posted that. Just had to root to get it. Well it seemed to work for a minute. Got service and then it disconnected.
Service State: Out of Service.
If you didn't get sprint insurance does the warranty cover things like this?
For future reference the free version of CDMA workshop will give you msl without root and if you call sprint tech support and ask for it they have no reason to not give it to you. You should take it to sprint and see if they will swap it out.

So got it swapped for a new evo 4g lte. But the other evo would work only in 4G areas. Data would work but neither voice or texting would work.
Strange. Maybe this phone handles the "handoff" better I hope.
