I've had a Galaxy S III for a month now, after a full charge it wont turn on "it overheated i think". It does go to download mode and i'm able to flash the phone with the cable plugged in and the battery in and out, but that's all the life i get out of the phone.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this I've tried "blowing the hole trick" but the cable connection is fine...
It's got me stuffed... If you need any extra info just ask and i'll try and answer it

Have you have flashed other stock roms? Have you tried charging via usb with a different cable. If nothing is working its service center time, hope you have warranty.

Hi all. I have a big problem. I placed my phone onto my desk before sleeping (my battery was +/-55%). When I woke up my phone did not want to go on. I tried charging it for 3 hours with my 2 pin charger and it still didn't want to come on (the charging battery animation didn't even show). I also tried charging with the USB cable via PC but that didn't help. I used my multi-meter to check if the battery was working and it showed that it contains +/-3.4V (battery is rated 3.5V). I tried to boot up into recovery mode (volume down + home button + power button) but it still didn't come on
I bought my phone at the beginning of the year (brand new) and it has been working with no problems until today. I have essential data on my phone (phone book, messages, apps etc) which are really important and I wouldn't want to lose them. Help would be much appreciated.

But how can it get bricked out of the blue? Was working perfectly night before happened. The only app I installed was Angry Birds: Star Wars (officially from Play Google Market).
Hard to say. Phones (like any other electronics) can die for all kinds of obscure reasons.
Service centre or JTAG repair; if you choose the latter option (assuming it can be JTAG'd & it's not a hardware issue), you could ask the repairer if they can recover your data. Might be possible. Service centre will wipe it if it if it's not a hardware issue, and if it is, they'll replace the MB which means you get new internal storage/you'll lose your stuff.
LOL.
Its happened to me and its just a BUG...
you may have 100% of battery but the phone is showing like 50%(fake)
put the charger into the phone hold the bottom of the usb (the last piece .. of the charger) and move it
(move it when it's plugged into the phone

My phone not showing anything (even fake indicator). I did as you said: held and moved around the bottom of the USB (part plugged into phone), while the phone was charging (using 2-pin charger) but did nothing. I just tested my phone with a friend's S II battery and it didn't help

No I don't. I heard that there is a way to make your own 'jig'. Can it be done? and if so what are methods?
Just use the scroll feature on your mouse and youll find it.

Why make one? It costs < 5$ (even for 1$ in ebay) anyway. Worth a try.
Same Issue
I have the exact same issue with my i9100. I woke up and it was dead. No recovery mode, no download mode, nada...nothing comes up on screen. It has been a little buggy ever since the ICS update but it has always worked eventually. I put the battery into my friend's phone and his worked fine. I am really hoping somebody has answers and it is just not "dead". I never used a ROM or anything, it's killing me that a $500 can just die overnight like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If your phone is still under warranty, go to Samsung service center.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I can not believe that just happened overnight, the only possibility is that you put some of the room's, if you have a warranty on the device, you can send it to the service and just hope that they will accept it and serviced
I have a Galaxy S3 on contract from T Mobile. It came unbranded and unlocked etc. Its now 6 months old.
It was rooted and had CWM on it. I recently swapped from Omega V35 to HD Revolution.
It was working fine. This morning it just died.
I can not get it into download mode, i can not get into boot mode. There are no LED's on. The screen doesnt do anything.
It is completely lifeless whether on battery, mains charger or usb connected to PC..
Is this dead?
Or would a USB jig help?
Im worried taking it back to t mobile, i think the warranty is void?
Thanks
It might be bad battery, try different battery. Mine wont turn on without battery.
As you can't go into download mode, so Samsung support can't check for warranty

Cheers guys.
I tried it with/without battery and also i tried it just plugged into the wall with/without battery. I tried a new battery aswell. Dead as a do-do.

Hi,
Since 1 week now I have some huge difficulties to charge my GS3. For exemple when I plug it before going to sleep, in the morning there is only 50%. Sometimes I plug it and it stop the charge itself (not at 100%), i have to move the cable a little to continue the charge.
I tried several cable and plugs, nothing change.
Does anybody experienced this? What can I do?
Ps : I already read this post but I didn't find any answer.
Thx
I presume you charged the phone through the AC power? I had similar issue prior which was resolved once I wiped my Battery Stats. Is your phone rooted?
yes my phone is rooter I have omega V35 ROM and i already tried to wipe the battery stats and nothing changed
Im sure you have also clear cache, wipe, reflash the ROM? Its highly unlikely that all of your chargers are malfunctioning, If the phone is still within the warranty period, it may be time for you to visit Samsung Service Centre (SSC)...but unroot first!
same issue here

no i didn't tried to reflash the ROM cause it was working great with this ROM before, I contacted samsung and they will repare it but i need to find the bill first. Is it really necessary to unroot the phone? Installing a stock ROM is good or is there something else to do to unroot it?

unrooting is in reference to returing to stock ROM. SSC will invalid warranties to rooted phones.
i just reflash the ROM and the phone is still very slow to charge.
I will send back to samsung i think.
i just installed the Omage ROM V38 and i still have the problem, you can look at this graph :
Take battery out for 10 minutes. Plug back in and see. If not possibly battery port issue, my wife's had to be sent back for it.

So different USB cables didn't helped? That usually does the trick. Other than that try kernel such as yank kernel which allows fast charging option.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First flash STOCK ROM and see what's gonna happen.
If the problem still persists, send your phone for service.
Make sure there are no signs of custom ROMs and Kernels.
Solution is the CABLE
Here is a confirmation of the solution from Turkey: It IS the CABLE...
Check the cable end that goes into the S3, if you see 5 places but with only 4 wires, it charges VERY slowly... However, I used a $5 charger which had 5 wires in the end that goes into galaxy S3 and voila!

Can anyone confirm this?
My stock Samsung cable has those 4 connections instead of, what looks like the 5 that can fit in. And it charges so slowly!
9/10 its the cable. I don't know bout what is said above. Mine charged fast then suddenly started charging slowly. It was to do with the kernels usb charger stability detection.
Changed cable and all good

So if I install stock Android, will that change the kernal and therefore fix the issue?
I don't see why I should have to pay and wait for a new cable, even if it's only a few quid and a few days :/

All Samsung kernels have the detection. Whether changing the kernel or cable fixes it or not is not knowable.
all you can do is try. can you not borrow a cable to test it? Surely you know someone with a cable?
yes, mine s3 to does charge slow i have the Purelook HD rom please help, take my phone on charger from 4& next morning about 50- 60 & only charged!!
I have a similar issue here, although my problem only started with latest arhd 25.0 Rom, never had this with previous roms of arhd....some times the charge is very fast , then next time it will charge to 19% then stop, then next time it's fast then will be very slow... very intermittent, I have changed chargers. Still same results, going to try wipe the battery stats to see if that helps.

Hey last week my galaxy s3 started having charging problems. At first what was happening was the charger would start charging it but then disconnect a few minutes after. If I left it on over night it would only charge about 30% and if I had sound on i could hear the phone connecting and disconencting the charger constantly.
I was on holidays at the time and had been down the beach with it so at the time I figured maybe a bit of sand got in the USB port, so when I got home I sprayed the port with compressed air and it fixed it for 1 charge, maybe 2. Now it is even worse.
Yesterday i was plugging it in and it would say it was charging but it would never charge, even after a reboot the battery would not how any more % then it previously had. Today I have plugged it in and now it was 'USB connector disconnected' (I guess it's hitting the OTG pin?), and now it doesn't charge at all or connect to the PC.
I have gone through numerous threads and tried a bunch of stuff nothing has worked, tried with multiple chargers, both Samsung originals and old Nokias and HTC's, all do the same.
I am running the poland version of 4.1.2 and have been for about a month, my phone is not rooted I just flashed it over the top of the stock ROM. So my question is this: the samsung service plaza is pretty close to my work so I was thinking about taking it down at lunch time, since I have flashed to the polish ROM is it likely that they will refuse to fix this under warranty?
Any help would be great, cheers guys.
So I've figured out I can connect the usb to the computer and if I push up on the end of the cable connected to the phone it will stay connected to the pc.
This gives me a chance to revert back to a stock Australian ROM, but it's pretty flimsy and I'm afraid of bricking it if it drops out mid flash.
So if anyone knows if flashing a phone to a stock foreign ROM (without rooting) voids warranty or not it will probably help me make my decision.
Cheers

Had similar iasues.. i flashed stockrom from sammobile using mobile odin. If you cam connect it to the pc use odin, if not and its rooted already use mobile odin.. download/copy rom to extsdcard.
best way is to root using pc odin as it will take only a few minutes, then flash official firmware using mobile odin
Phone will only charge when rebooted and it shows the [Safestrap: Disabled] screen and only when I select the Recovery option.
It vibrates and shows a battery empty and no charging signal off and on until it dies....
This all just happened last Monday while driving. It's the same with whether connected to the computer or wall or whatever. Essentially I have to power off the device to charge it, and the charge doesn't last a day.
Phone is rooted. VRUFNC5
Any thoughts? I'm very limited in knowledge, probably shouldn't have tried root but successfully did anyway...

It could be a problem with your charging port which is very not good. I doubt it is a software issue, though I suppose I could be wrong.

Stock rooted. I've actually got a square trade replacement coming today (this is a claim phone and i've only had it 40 days).
It will charge, but only in the configuration mentioned above. It will not charge when running at all. I think the battery will tell right away if it's not working correctly in the new phone so maybe that will clear it up. I'll advise once I get the new one up and running.
