ROM request or help learning to make a ROM - HTC Rezound

I am looking for or wishing to learn how to make a ROM that is almost completely debloated, removed much of Sense (but I wanna keep the lockscreen as I use the four functions that can be there), themed in a red that matches the Beats logo on the back of the phone and/or the soft keys, tweaks would be amazing (quick settings in the sense of removing/re-ordering, WiFi on/off instead of taking you to WiFi settings, custom carrier & lockscreen captions, clock alignment are the big ones), and a custom kernel that allows it to move quickly yet sip battery as much as possible.
Basically, I guess I am looking for something similar to what Scott's ROMs used to be, but at the same time I wanna incorporate more ICS into it.
If anyone is able to build something like this relatively easily I would love it!! If you wanna try to teach me this stuff let me know. I have always wanted to but haven't been able to find the time to research all the details.

Well I'd say as long as you have some experience with code, you could look at source for some roms and start tweaking things and basically find out how things work. If not, then maybe try just flashing mods onto a deodexed stock rom

Is there any web sites or anything where one can learn basic android development? Just stuff like theming and other small scale things. I would enjoy learning more later on, when I get an experimental phone.

im great with graphical work and know quite a bit of coding. I've been debating on building my own rom for the rezound and trying to be as stable as possible but i myself dont know where to even start. Been doing small tweaks here and there on a few roms and so far ive managed to put together by scraps a black and red theme and ui but can be time consuming...would love to work on a team and push out something with jellybean

We NEED More THEMES!!! :: Pa'lease ::

I've been helping buddies get rooted on their phones and one thing they always want is a custom theme... because of this I research and find good (professional) ones for them, and there are MANY to choose from.
I don't expect people to start fresh, but can some of these be ported?
Bring the Vibrant some Sexy-Time.
Black Froyo is amazing... wish there were more options
(especially ones that played well with Nero too)
Back in the game and I've really just started using widgets to customize if you dont mind losing some battery life launcher pro plus is awesome for this

I agree but beggers can't be choosy. I would love to learn how to theme however I never find the time to learn with so many things going on in my life. I read somewhere that junkdruggler will help you theme if you ask. Hopefully next Monday pr Tuesday I can start to play with new themes and morphs.

I know good and well where my skill set lies, and it's not with themes. I can beg all I want to, just hope it benefits ALL of us.
Just a heads up, a basic theme for the Vibrant will involve roughly 750 image edits in order to make it consistent enough to feel right. That isn't even getting into app specific edits to fit the system theme.
You think it's possible if we all share these files in PSD and edit them from there? The only thing I know how to do is edit pictures on Photoshop which I usually do. I haven't even tried edit .9.pngs but i'm willing to do it if it's not that time consuming either.
That would be pretty awesome if we had a shared dropbox folder or something.... shoot, I'll try and learn!

New ROM, ideas?

So I'm beginning the process of developing a ROM, and I decided to ask my fellow MyTouch 4G and Android fans what they would like TN see in a custom ROM that they have yet to see!
Can't wait to hear your ideas!

This might be a stretch from anything a dev will want to go after because of the amount of work involved in it but I've made a few psp themes that functioned like a X-Box 360 before and the look is clean and usable but I'm not sure how much work anyone is willing to put in to make it come alive for these devices.
Menus would be standard obviously but main page functionality would work like an X-Box 360, There are so many different background options and styles you can use with that format.
It's a lot of work, most Roms made are exact build structures of an official release so making this would be completely from scratch.
It's not an easy idea but it would be nice to see something other than I-Phone, Sense and AOSP.

It's raining roms....

OMG!!!!! The past couple of days it's raining roms on xda. That's a nice thing (I suppose) so maybe they can move the forum from low activity devices back to front page???
I can't think of the traffic here when official CM comes outs!!!!! Will be having many moded versions of that
Maybe I am wrong but all these ROMs are only eye candy, nothing spectacular.
I agree, mostly(/all) are just themed stocks or CMs with the usual scripts and some apps added...
None off them has something really unique. The last good thing imho was the pdroid-patched thing, the next "big" thing i guess will be the official CM7. And maybe after this the unofficial CM9, if it gets usuable (as it isn't right now i guess).
any idea when the official cm7 will be out?
jajaja
its really true, many ROMs this days
so many to choose...
lol there is a samsung phone on

and only has 15 roms
and 14 threads in themes and apps

I just want MIUI to be ported, and then I won't be needing any other rom.
Best "custom" ROM is stock with things I manually added after installing it. Its stock XXKPP, b84 fixed, turbo boost, lagfree, ext4, SetCPU 122-883MHz, Roboto font, removed a lot of stupid apps(TB), frozen market updater, Adw launcher with ICS dock, wallpaper and icons and that's it. All done by me step by step and working flawlessly.
Well, the only developer that works constantly on scripts for SGA is slaid480..Check does not work full time on scripts for ace..I am talking about rom scripts here, not roms or kernels...Do we have a choice? The answer is NO.You guys should be thankful to the handful of devs that we have got..Thanks to slaid480.We have all those awesome scripts..And tell me,you guys say roms are not good enough, that all of them are the same..Can you give me a few suggestions??We don't have ICS,Official CM9 or MIUI..The only thing we have,Froyo and GB..Its easy for you guys to think from a viewer's point of view...But hunk from a developer's point of view and you will get it..We are struggling to get some working good roms here and here some guys are, telling that all the roms are ****..
There's no chance we are going back to main forum or something..Just take a look at the forums of the defy and sga sections..you guts will be thunderstruck,i tell you. They have a huge number of developers, they get very good things, which gives them choice.and thats something we don't have, unless some awesome dev chooses to switch to sga..No offense to anyone.I am just telling the fact,we need to be satisfied with what we have got,not tell that whatever we have got is ****...

Well spoken Prawesome!
Not all but most Roms coming up are more or less "just " a compilation of stuff the Devs give to the Community. The Devs gave us what we have, started with base and ended with the fine tuning .. We should, and in my case, I will not forget about this fact.
I am happy about every Rom that pops up and thankful to whoever made it but it's clear : nothing would work without the Dev who made it.
True true, without them, my phone would only be another midrange phone

Recognized Developer wants your input for a rom.

Hey all. Developer of several roms and tools here. Planning on working on the amaze 4g. So I've come asking your opinions.
What do you want in a rom?
What are the biggest issues you have with your current setup?
What are the features you'd like to see in a kernel?
What are the current issues you have with your kernel?
Please note I do not currently own an amaze. My girlfriend does, but I can not always test on her device. This will have to be a community effort for testing.

First off, hell yes and thanks for coming over.
We have multiple Sense 3.0, one 3.5, and an ICS WIP...
I would love to try MIUI or AOSP. Even a solid 3.5 would be nice.
Long battery life and snappy UI always preferred.
Thanks again!

****...what don't we want in a ROM?
Is there any way you can help with some of the WIP Ports found on this section. I would like to test those out.
We have way too many Sense 3.0 ROMs. Don't get me wrong, they're all pretty good, but like the members who have already posted before me, AOSP is what this phone really needs right now.
In a ROM, the first thing I look for is performance. Since I always run third party launchers such as GO Launcher Ex and ADW Launcher Ex over HTC Sense, the ROM needs to be able to be smooth while on those launchers (some ROMs lag like hell on these launchers when wallpaper scrolling is turned on). The second thing I look for in a ROM is the miscellaneous stuff such as theme, icons, Beats, DSP manager, etc. Battery life is pretty important too.
The biggest problem in my current set up is the lack of fluidity. Yes, the phone is fast, but with the Sense ROM framework, I feel that the Amaze's speed can never be as fast as if it were on an AOSP ROM. I also found that the video playback on YouTube often lags, which is really a pain in the ass.
Currently, we only have one kernel other than stock, which is Faux's kernel. It works for some ROMs and doesn't for others, so I usually just stick with stock. I do miss the under/overclocking and undervolting though.
I'm not sure how many people share my opinions regarding this subject, but I hope I've been some help. Anyways, glad you're planning to develop for the Amaze!
Hell yeah, bring the Amaze Dev Forum back to life <(-_-)> !!
What do you want in a rom? AOSP ROM
What are the biggest issues you have with your current setup? Battery Life/LCD Bleed/Sense ROM's
What are the features you'd like to see in a kernel? OC/UV - Govenor Options
What are the current issues you have with your kernel? - Above
AOSP for sure.

Great to have another developer welcome! and thanks in advance.
here are some of my suggestions as I have tested more than a few of the limited amount of roms available for the amaze.
1. I think the most important things that we want to get out of a rom and kernel here is, first a good, sorry a great battery life and possible more free ram (beastmod does a great job of this). I have tried a lot of roms but battery is an issue with all of them and the difference is marginal.
2. We have lots of roms that incorperate sense UI's, and sensless UI's I would like to see a rom that incorporates another UI.
3. All the roms I've tested seem to have the basic enhanced notification quicksettings and advanced power menu. I would like to see a tweaking tool or tweaking in the settings for being able to tweak a lot of things...such as turning on HW accelleration. Lockscreen settings, (icon grid tweak, ie put change the number of icons both in drawer and in the main home screens, I know there are third party launcher, but it would be great if this was built into the rom), just lots of tweaking, look at adwlauncher ex and go launcher ex and maybe there are some good ideas there. just as much tweaking and advanced tweaking as possible , both hardware and software related.
4. A different and more customizable and tweakable dialer, something like we see in CM 7.
5. I can't think of anything else right now!!! I'll post more if i can think of any
One thing I'd like to see is the features find in aokp and from romanbb. I think he works mostly on the SGS2, but those tweaks (mainly notification bar with time, quick settings, colors, etc.) would be awesome.

1st of welcome to the community, and try to get people's opinions.
as you can see me and a lot of guys would like to see MIUI and AOSP rom witch are different from sense
somebody here is working on a cm7 rom and for a aosp rom i prefer cm7 because its tmobile theme chooser app, and with cm7 you can run miui.
it would be nice to port others roms like a good sense 3.5,3.6 or sense 4
many of us are waiting on ICS, but i can wait longer with that.
oh and man had you seen all the tweaks from the sensation?
like the blueray cam feature or the bravia feature?
plus other tweaks from settings like coredroid?
Plus one to all the things!

i'd like to see MIUI, MIUIv4, CM9, AOSP 2.3.7...
they are just a few that would be pretty cool to see.
you could also try a weird os like LeWa <-- based off cm7
Increased battery life is my main fault with this phone.
Somehow increase signal strength, I know, wishful thinking.
That's about it!
I'm trying to get my feet wet with developing but am having a hard time getting anything working in CM7, I think I almost have the camera working, along with either Bluetooth or WiFi.
But what I would love is an aosp kernal!!!
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
AOSP. Could care less about another ROM built off of sense.
i'll say, do what you are best at.. that's it.
it doesn't matter if it is aosp, miui.. anything will do
BUT if it is android 4.0.3 IT'S BETTER !!

Rambling about a cool rom idea...nothing important tho!

A Universal Rom idea...
With every Launcher (done through aroma) (touchwiz, sense, miui, cm10, aosp, liquid, (custom for rom...Launcher)) (with explicit details on what wont work for each launcher)
A large list of pre-installed themes (not just standard)
Multiple Lockscreen selections inside Aroma
large list of browsers apps for selection (file and internet) (what can i say, people have their preferences)
large list of music enhancing applications for selection (such as acid tech and walkman player, beats, awesome beats, beats pro, dsp manager, volume +)
Complete list of kernels for device on rom
large list of system fonts
Pacman config options (AOKP, CM10, PA) (possibly with selection of baked rom control instead of regular AOKP)
Pre-installed T-mobile theme manager (sorts themes on market and makes them more easily readable for download, alows different sorting options)
Adblock for android
Inverted or regular gapp selection
Option to replace system applications with ones that exist on market (for example, talkatone includes free minutes, free texting, no ads, and you keep
your number) (Messaging 7 is an example of my preferred messaging application i use from the market)
Optional keyboard selection, from a large list (branches down from swype or no swype to other options, inside aroma)
Any additional mods for the phone included inside aroma (with descriptions)
Bloat removal included inside aroma
Gesture Control (if possible)
Boot animation config inside of aroma, with screenshots of each on OP
Possible Development Collaboration to include mods from specific roms to help in development of this one. (Which i would personally include the viper
battery control (never had better battery life) (some tweaks from SuperJelly, bareback) (I would also include the viper rom configuration options, if sense
was selected, after ported to jelly bean)
Oh and rom installer and zip file deletion script after it installs to remove that large ass download from your phone or tablet.
Multiple GPS navigation application options.
Idk maybe its just me, but if i could have one rom with a million different aroma options, id have 1 rom, i could re-do over and over, satisfying my rom addiction for months. I thought it sounded like a cool idea, dont know if its all completely possible but i hate finding an issue with a rom and having to download another 300mb+ file to find another problem with a rom. Its almost the same issue i have with media, and competition, except its a free thing.
To be honest. I wouldnt mind paying for a rom that had every feature every rom offered compiled into one very large aroma installer. 5-10-20 bucks and i have an ultra phone, and would never have to download another rom...Perm satisfying my rom addiction by creating an UltraROM, possibly using svn to not have to download updates. Or a pre-configured OTA, However in that option, and i was paying for it, you better have a good server lol, cause id rather download from dev host at 4-5MB/s than download from a **** server direct link that lets me dl at 100KB/s
Any thoughts?
Most of it is do able with my skill set just have to learn the installer aroma. But it why that is alot of work my private cm7 on my old g2x had alot of stuff just no options. It was alot of work and asop or cm10 needs to fix lte before i touch them to try but im going to learn aroma soon anyway. So ill think about it seems interesting.

A thread for this. ? :banghead: why not choose the ROM that most meets these requests, and add the rest yourself?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Ah haha hahaha
Is something wrong with the idea of a paid ROM that includes all the features present in other roms? Yes this is a thread, because as far as i know it hasnt been done. There isnt even a free rom that includes all the good features from every rom.
There are multiple roms with different features that you find appealing, which makes you want to switch between them all of the time, and actually causes the want to switch between said roms frequently. The desire for a perfect rom exists, however a perfect rom doesnt exist, so you go back and foruth between them all the time. Always wanting a new rom, always wanting a different one, always wanting to see that new feature. Which is the same way phones come out in stores. A new feature comes out, you want a new phone, even though just moments ago you loved your old one.
So its odd that roms would be developed in the same fashion wouldnt you agree? That there is always a new rom to make you want to switch, even though flashing presents the risk of damaging your device, and you loved the rom you were just on a moment ago, but it is missing that feature. A singular rom wouldnt have this issue, and if lots of options were presented in aroma, people would never get bored with it. If made through SVN people wouldnt get tired of downloading new additions to a large rom.
So if the rom was developed by multiple developers, Then the credits would be for every dev, not just one. Destroying the idea of singling a single rom out while others exist, because all devs would be working on it. Depending on the amount being spent, the devs could actually no longer need donations after a little while, as they would be making a sufficiant amount off of the rom itself, if it were paid, and if it werent, so many people would be using the rom that the idea that no donations would go through would be rediculous, they would be getting paid based off of the feelings of the consumer, which, if the rom were made this way, would be alot. As alot of people would want to use the rom.
Paid for rom? you serious?!?! that's just plain wrong...and impossible to get a rom that works with every single device out there
OH WOW!! So if I understand you correctly, you want every app, mod, font, kernel, theme and feature of all the ROMs in one nice package? Then you want it to be a universal type of ROM?
What are we talking about.....5-6 gigs here??
THEN you have the nerve to think people are going to jump at this project just because you throw a few dollars down?? I'm sorry but saying you would pay for a ROM is just nuts! Not sure where you think you are BUT this isn't the place to try to BUY a ROM! I can't speak for every developer on here BUT the ones I associate with, I can sure as hell speak for and I can tell you that money isn't our motivation!
Keep your 5 dollars or 20 dollars and head over to the development section and pick out a ROM like everyone else. If that doesn't do it for you, then roll them sleeves up and make one yourself!
there's this thing called a kitchen... thing is our devices couldn't hold such a large file to do that. and having it universal is near impossible. and lol at the flash some money.
lol
Fake outrage!!!
Seems like it could just be a options chooser zip instead of a full rom.

WOW, just WOW with this thread...
If you cannot find a ROM to suit you "needs" on this forum, then re-lock your phone and run stock....or build your own ROM. What you're asking for is never going to happen and undermines the entire point of what XDA is and stands for.
SMH....
With all the features you want.. the Rom zip file would be ridiculously large

So im gonna say a few things and put them simply, as you guys seem to think this is a complete life ending discussion, if i put more than a few lines of text into a post.
If i want sense. i want a sense rom thats gonna be awesome. Not a billion of them with small differences in each one and new names.
If i want CM10. i want a CM10 rom thats gonna be awesome. Not a billion of them with small differences in each one and new names.
If i want AOKP. i want a AOKP rom thats gonna be awesome. Not a billion of them with small differences in each one and new names.
If i want PA. i want a PA rom thats gonna be awesome. Not a billion of them with small differences in each one, and new names.
If i want the 3 above to be in one rom, i want ONE rom thats gonna be awesome. Not a billion of them with small differences in each one. And new names.
If i want MIUI. I want a MIUI rom thats gonna be awesome. Not a billion of them with small differences in each one and new names.
So for the nth time. Why do we have so many roms that are the same? this is open source people collaborate a little lol stop adding a small little game changer into a new rom every 5 seconds and just add it in to one that exists.
I mean, like mazda just said, you dont do it for money or donations. I immagine you do it for credit then or there just wouldnt be so many roms out there that are exactly alike. lol
btw, if this was a hate thread, there would have been more...well...hate. Unless your saying theres alot of random hate from people who stumbled apon this thread and decided it was against their religion not to reply with hate lol.
and then if you are, thats very normal for this device. Seems the only people who buy an evo have anger issues they need to work out.
